Mustafa Khattab – Judge Your Self
AI: Summary ©
The speaker advises the audience to reflect on their past year and determine if they are doing well or not. They also discuss the rights of Islam, including the belief that everything is in control and everything is revealed in the next life. The speaker gives two things to motivate the individual to judge themselves: putting in their mind that everything they do is part of their system and setting a scale for judgment. Prayer and fasting are important for achieving good deeds.

I bear witness that there is none worthy
of our worship except Allah
the creator and the sustainer of the universe.
And I bear witness that Muhammad sallallahu alaihi
wa sallam is the seal of the prophets
and the final messenger
to all
humanity.
So a few days ago,
we paid farewell
to the last
hijriid year,
and a new year was born. A few
days ago, the month of Al hija is
gone, and the whole year,
14
32 is gone, and a new year is
has begun.
Some people feel happy when a new year
is born,
and they look forward to what they plan
to do in the next year, and they're
excited. They are happy.
But
the the fact is
you have to be careful about
the fact that a new or a year
is gone from your life.
And the more you live,
the years that you pass by, they bring
you closer to the end. And this is
what they say in Arabic, the more you
live, the closer you get to
the grave. This is the sunnah of life.
So you shouldn't be that excited. You should
sit back and reflect
on what you did in the past
year.
So about a year ago, when I first
came in here,
some people, some brothers and sisters, they were
among us.
And when I give the food, I see
them.
But now, after 1 year, we don't see
them anymore.
And maybe,
after 1 year from today,
some of us who are here today, the
brothers and sisters, they will not be with
us anymore.
So you have to be careful about your
life,
and you shouldn't be excited that a year
has gone.
You have to be careful, and you have
to sit back and reflect
on your life. And the past year, what
did you do in the past year?
So you have to sit back and reflect
on the past year.
And your life in general,
whether you have done well in this past
year
or those past years in your life, or
you didn't do enough to take you to
Jannah,
paradise.
And you have to reflect on your riots
to Allah like salah, zakah, and all these
acts of worship, and your riots to the
people. Your manners, your applause toward the people.
So we are told in the Quran
that you have to reflect on your past
life,
and you have to reflect on your deeds
and your behavior and your conduct
in this time, and to see if you
are doing good enough or you're not doing
good enough. So Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says
in the Quran, all you who believe,
look to what you have put forward to
yourselves in the next life, the day when
you stand before Allah for judgment,
and
know for sure that Allah knows everything
that you do. And this is the tafsir
and the kathir, or the aya, he said,
you have to judge yourself in this life
before you are judged in the next life.
And you have to reflect on the things
that you have put forward
that will benefit you in the next life
and will take you to Jannah,
and know for sure that Allah knows everything.
Nothing is hidden from Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
Narrated by each Shaddad al An'us, the companion
of the prophet that
in Sahif al Midi, the prophet says that
the intelligent person
is the one who judges himself or herself,
and they do the things that will benefit
them in the next life.
But the foolish person, the opposite, the foolish
person
is the one who follows his desires, his
lower self,
and doesn't put forward anything that would benefit
them in the next life. They don't pray,
they don't fast, they give charity. All they
have is high expectations
and hopes that Allah will give them
paradise without doing anything in this life.
Majali.
They follow their lower self, their desires.
You have to look at the rights of
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. The prayers, the fasting,
the pilgrimage, the Hajj, and so on and
so forth, because there are 4 different groups
when it comes to the rights of Allah
Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. Number 1,
those who waste their low lives,
and the past year included,
in
gathering money from the right and from the
left, from the halal and from the khan.
And they don't pray. You never see them
in the masjid anymore.
They don't
fast Ramadan. They don't care. And they don't
do the Hajj.
The only thing they care about is the
money, the doubt. So they forget about the
rights of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala completely.
This reminds me pretty much
of a character
in
Ice Age, the movie. Those of you who
have seen this movie, Ice Age 1, 2,
and 3, the scrap and the end cord,
the character in that movie.
The only thing it did throughout the movie
is run after the acorn, the food, and
the money throughout the film. It didn't care
in the 3 parts of the movie about
other characters,
about the rights of this, or the rights
of this, the only thing he cared about
is the money or the food.
It climbed mountains.
It swam in
oceans,
and it ran on the land only to
get the food or the money. Anything else,
other characters, it didn't really matter for them.
The second time of people, they do
acts of worship, but it doesn't come from
their heart.
And it doesn't impact or influence the way
they behave toward other people. They pray, but
they lie.
They give charity, but they cheat.
And so on and so forth. This is
a mechanical worship that is not coming from
the heart, and it doesn't affect the personality
of the person.
And in this way,
salah for them, the prayers becomes more like
a yoga. Just movements that you do.
The sadaqah or zakah for them is nothing
more than a tax that they pay.
The fasting is nothing more than being on
diet. You don't eat just to lose weight.
Fasting has no more meaning for them.
The Hajj and the circling of the Kaaba
or the Tawah for them is like walking
in the park or jogging in the park.
It is not coming from the heart. It's
just movements that you do by your body,
but it is not coming from your heart.
It is not affecting your personality.
The third type of people are those who
pray and fast and they do the different
acts of worship,
but they are nasty to other people. They
give charity, but they lie. They fast, but
they steal.
Okay?
These are the the people who are meant
by the Hadith of the prophet, the Saif
Muslim, narrated by Abu Bureywa, the
Some people will come on the day of
judgement
with prayers
and charity and fasting and,
but they will not get the reward. Why?
Because they lied to this.
They are unjust to this. They cheat on
this. They abuse this. So they lose their
rewards, as the prophet says. Nothing will be
left for them.
The 4th group,
as far as the rights of Allah are
concerned, those who pray and fast and they
do the pilgrimage in the right way. And
in the meantime, these acts of worship are
reflected in their behavior, so they are good
and honest and sincere and generous to people.
And this takes us
to talk about the 2nd type or the
2nd rights, which is the rights of the
people.
So we have to look about the rights
of the peace. If you are a husband,
do you give your wife your wife her
rights?
Do you sit and talk to her? Do
you respect her? Do you provide for her
the right way?
Or you waste your time working 3 2
or 3 jobs and she is locked up
in the house and she's talking to the
chairs in the wall.
And this is haram.
Or are you a wife and you're not
giving the rights of your husband to him?
You raise your voice to him. You are
not obeying him. Or you always push him
and buy him to buy you new stuff
all the way to him getting stealing or
taking bribes and doing haram to fulfill your
desires.
So
have you given the rights of your children
to them,
giving teaching them and teaching them manners
and the Islamic etiquette and principles,
or you wasted your life collecting money from
the right and the left, and you haven't
taught them anything?
And as we said, when you teach them
manners when they are young, it becomes part
of their system, it becomes part of their
psyche, but if you leave them like this,
to walk around like zombies,
and now they are 17 or 18, you
ask them to pray,
They tell you, I I I not feel
like praying today.
If you push them a little bit, they
will call 911. They will take you to
prison.
They know this, and it happened several times
before.
Have you forced your daughter to marry someone
she doesn't she doesn't like?
Have you given your brothers and sisters your
share of inheritance,
or you took it for yourself
and you became a just to them.
Are you being honest and sincere and nice
to the people or not? This is what
matters. And this is why we have to
sit back for 5 minutes and reflect on,
the rights of Allah, the rights of the
people.
I conclude with this.
In conclusion, I'm giving 2 things that will
help
motivate you to judge yourself in this life
before it is too late and you are
judged in the next life. The first thing,
you have to put in your mind that
Allah
sees every single thing that you do, whether
you do it in public or in in
secrecy.
Allah
says in the Quran, indeed, Allah knows everything
you do.
You have to keep in your mind, and
this is number 2, that the day will
come and you will stand before Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala for judgment. And he will ask
you, why did he do this, man? Why
didn't he do this?
And Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says in the
Quran that the day will come when we
will set the scales for judgment,
and everything will be brought forth to Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala, whether it's small or big.
Even if it's as small as a mustard
seed, Allah
will bring it forth and sufficient is Allah
as a judge as Allah
says. That's Allah
and
