In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most
Merciful.
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most
Merciful.
All praise is due to Allah, Lord of
all the worlds.
And peace and blessings be upon our Master,
our Prophet, and our Master Muhammad, and upon
his family and companions.
O Allah, we ask You for Your love,
and the love of those who love You,
and the love of deeds that bring us
closer to Your love, O Most Merciful.
We ask Allah for His love.
We ask Him for the love of those
actions that will gain His love.
And we ask Him for the love of
those people that He loves.
Ameen.
We ask Allah ﷻ to give us the
correct intention for tonight's halaqah.
There's a hadith where the Prophet ﷺ, he
lays out what the intention is.
The Prophet ﷺ, he says that no group
of people gather in the house of Allah.
No group of people gather in the house
of Allah.
Studying the Qur'an.
Mentioning the Qur'an.
Reflecting on the Qur'an.
Accept that.
That tranquility descends on that
gathering.
Tranquility comes down.
And that's the intention.
The intention is to be in a gathering
of tranquility.
A gathering of angels.
A gathering of mala'ika.
A gathering in which our iman is increased.
And there's no better gathering than the gathering
in which we are reflecting on the words
of Allah ﷻ.
But specifically, we're looking at a very, very
powerful surah.
And I mentioned in the previous sessions that
this surah was revealed at a time in
Medina.
Where the people's himmah, their drive for the
deen has started to come down.
Because things started to get easier.
Things started to get easier and when things
got easier, people started to let up.
They didn't sacrifice as more.
They weren't struggling as more.
They were saying, you know what?
The new guys that just came in, they
could put more work in.
We can start to chill.
And this surah was revealed in order to
revive the community and say, No, you gotta
keep grinding.
You gotta keep striving.
And the surah is beautiful.
Because Allah ﷻ, there's many places in this
surah where there's this beautiful picture of the
akhira.
And this is what we're talking about tonight.
Now again, I want us to understand the
importance of studying these verses.
Allah ﷻ gives us a glimpse into the
hereafter.
Into the day of judgment.
So that we could reflect on that.
What is my state gonna be, Mikael?
What is Mikael's state gonna be on that
day when I'm standing before Allah ﷻ?
It's not about the person next to you.
It's not about anyone in your family.
It's about reflecting on you.
What will your position be?
As we recite these verses, take yourself to
the day of judgment.
Take yourself to that moment.
Allow the words of Allah to take you
to that moment and live in that moment.
Allah ﷻ, He says, and we started with
this verse last week.
Allah ﷻ says, on
that day, you will see the believing men
and the believing women.
Allah ﷻ, the Prophet
tells us that on the day of judgment,
there's different stages of the day of judgment.
There's different positions, there's different checkpoints, there's different
moments of the day of judgment.
And at this particular moment, Allah ﷻ tells
us that there will be complete darkness.
Unlike any darkness we could ever imagine.
And the believers will be told to move
forward to Jannah.
Crossing over this bridge that is above the
hellfire.
Imagine this moment, extreme darkness.
But as soon as that darkness comes, the
believing men and women will be given their
light.
Their light.
Notice how we use the word, their light.
Like Mahmoud, you'll be given your light.
Ayman, you'll be given your light.
Mikael, you'll be given your light.
Not anyone else's light, you'll be given your
light.
Now, what does that mean?
The Qur'an says, نُورُهُمْ Their light.
In front of them, their
light will light up the path in front.
Rasulullah ﷺ, he said, some people's light will
be so bright, that it will enlighten from
Medina to Yemen.
He's giving an example of how bright their
light is.
And then Rasulullah ﷺ, he said, but some
people will have light that will just stop
at their feet.
Meaning that's the light that they brought from
the dunya.
See, this is the way I look at
it.
This dunya is filled with darkness.
But you can choose to take the light
of the Prophet and live through that light.
You can take that light from his way,
Muhammad ﷺ.
Take that light and live in this dark
dunya.
This dunya with all types of sins, this
dunya with all types of deceptions, this dunya
with all that it has, this darkness.
But when you come to the masajid, when
Ramadan comes, when you fast, when you recite
the Qur'an, you're grabbing some of that
light to lighten up this dark dunya that
we live in.
And that's the beautiful thing about accepting
See, the deep thing is you realize how
dark the dunya is, but it's not morbid
because then you realize the light that I
have.
So Allah says, I want you to picture
it.
It becomes extremely dark.
You're standing there.
Mikael is standing there in that moment.
And it's extreme darkness.
And then the angels start to pass out
everyone their nur.
Here's your nur.
Here's your nur.
Here's your light.
Here's your light.
The Qur'an then says, There'll be lights
coming from their hearts.
That was the nur of their faith.
That was the nur, the light of their
iman.
How much they believed in Allah.
Forget the actions right now.
Just how much your heart truly believed in
Deep.
And then there'll be light from the
right side.
That's their actions.
Because the angel writing the good deeds is
on the right side.
The book is given in the right side.
That's their actions.
Now these people have their light.
So they can see where they're going.
And they're moving forward fast towards Jannah.
If you saw Jannah in front, what you
waiting on?
Are you waiting for somebody?
Nah bro, I'll catch you over there.
I'll meet you on that other side.
So the moment the believers get their light,
they start going forward.
And as they're going into Jannah, as they're
going into paradise, picture it, see it, put
yourself there.
That's what the Qur'an wants you to
do.
It wants you to block out the dunya,
and for a moment, take yourself to the
akhirah.
Just be there for this moment.
We'll be back in the dunya in like
30 minutes, y'all.
30 minutes we'll be back.
But right now, we're on يوم القيامة.
So what happens next?
They're going into Jannah.
This is the Qur'an.
بُشْرَاكُمُ الْيَوْمُ The angels are saying, تِبَتُمْ سَلَامٌ
Yo, y'all did good there.
We heard about y'all.
Yo, Mahmoud, I heard about you.
Yo, Haitham, I heard about you.
Yo, I heard about you.
I heard what you were doing in the
dunya.
Glad tidings.
You were struggling with the deen, right?
But you pushed through.
So the angels are like, Man, I'm glad
to know you.
Nice to meet you.
You did a lot.
You couldn't work.
The angels are saying to the
believers as they're walking in with this light.
Glad tidings to you.
Glad tidings to you.
For you will have a jannah, a garden,
under which rivers flow.
You dwell there forever.
And then Allah SWT reminds us, He says,
Allah backs off and
He says, You see this picture that you're
picturing in your brain right now?
This moment of walking in with your light.
That's the
true success.
Meaning, today some of us had failures.
If I ask everyone to raise your hand,
who had a failure this week?
Some level.
Everyone will be like, Oh yeah, I messed
up.
But when you put it in perspective, Allah
SWT is saying, The true success and the
true failure isn't that small failure you had
this week or that small success you had
this week.
But rather the true,
The true success.
The true success is this picture we just
pictured in our head.
Am I one of those people?
But it's not done yet.
We're still there.
Allah SWT says.
Now before I get into this, A good
doctor doesn't just tell you what you want
to hear.
You go to the doctor, get your blood
work.
They're like, Nah, you're good.
You're good.
You go to somebody else, they're like, Bruh,
that A1, what's it called?
The blood sugar?
Y'all young, y'all don't even know
about that.
A1c, there we go.
Somebody knows.
A good doctor tells you not what you
want to hear, what you need to hear.
They call Rasulullah طَبِيبُ الْخُلُوبُ He was the
doctor of hearts.
Rasulullah SAW didn't just tell us what we
want to hear.
Jannah, I'm walking into Jannah.
Angels like, Yo, Ayman, you did amazing bruh.
No, the Prophet SAW came with a message
that gave us reality because not everybody is
going to be at that right spot.
And so now the Quran goes to the
other side.
And yes, it's scary, but it's supposed to
be scary because this is what saves you
when that fitna is right in front of
you, when that trial is right in front
of you, when that haram is right in
front of you and you're like, Yo, Shaykh,
how do I fear Allah more?
I'm like, Yo, you know that verse we
did?
You know that verse we studied when you
checked out because it was too scary?
That's the verse right now you got to
tap into.
What does Allah say?
All the
believers are together.
But amongst the believers, there's a group of
people called the munafiqeen.
And the munafiqeen, in English, it translates as
hypocrites.
It translates as hypocrites.
But I want you to understand from Arabic
perspective for a minute what this word means.
The word nafaq means a tunnel.
And it's like a tunnel has two exit
points and two entry points.
And animals build the tunnel just in case
danger comes from one way, I could dip
out the other.
This was what the munafiqeen did at the
time of the Prophet.
They didn't truly believe, they believed, but they
left the back door open.
Just in case Islam fails, I could dip
out the other way.
The munafiq, they have two lifestyles.
When they were with the believers, they would
sit to the khutbah, they would listen closely
to the khutbah.
In the moment they left the lecture, they
would look at each other, they'd be like,
What was he even talking about, bro?
They had two selves.
Allah talks about them,
They weren't
on that side, like they weren't with Abu
Jahl, like, yo Abu Jahl, you my man.
And they weren't with Abu Bakr, like Abu
Bakr, you my man.
They wanted to stay in the middle.
Why?
Because they couldn't truly make the commitment.
They had commitment issues.
Just got personal.
Just got personal for the brother.
Why does sisters laugh, the brothers ain't laugh?
Brothers ain't even laugh, bro.
It's alright, we all got them, man.
No, they couldn't commit.
They couldn't commit that, they couldn't choose, I'm
going to be with the believers.
And that's why, listen to this though, listen
to this.
There was a man by the name of
Hanzala.
He's walking, you heard this hadith before, but
this is the context.
He's walking around Medina.
He's walking around the city.
And he's muttering something to himself.
And he's speaking under his breath.
And Abu Bakr walks up to him, he's
like, what are you saying?
And he hears him, he's saying, Nafiqa Hanzala.
He's saying his own name, third person, he's
saying, Nafiqa Hanzala.
Hanzala is a munafiq.
But he's speaking third person about himself.
Abu Bakr is like, bro, you can't say
that.
Because Nafiqa, to be a hypocrite means you
don't believe.
The external shows one thing and the internal
is another thing.
That's what nifaq is.
And guess what's the crazy part?
The Prophet, peace be upon him, in a
hadith he said, that the majority of the
munafiqeen of my ummah will be the scholars
of the deen.
In a specific narration, he said, qurra.
The qurra, you know, like you perfect va,
va.
What a va, right?
Like, you focus on it, right?
Like, you hitting it.
But you know what's crazy?
You focus so much on the external, you
forget the reality of it.
You focus so much on that bi being
right, that ba being right, that you forget
is your heart right.
You forget that.
And that's why the Prophet, peace be upon
him, he said, the majority of the munafiq,
the hypocrites of my ummah will be sitting
up here, yo.
Not over there, here.
I texted this verse to a teacher of
mine.
Just to get his reflection on it.
I texted the verse to him.
I said, Sheikh, I'm talking about this verse.
Please give me some insight.
This was like two hours ago.
He messaged me back.
You know what he said?
I'm waiting for jims.
Like, yo, this verse, this.
He goes, yo, I'm shaking.
I hope I'm not one of those people.
I'm like, yo, I need the jims, bro.
He's just like, no, I'm shaking.
I hope I'm not one of those people.
Umar ibn al-Khattab.
Do we know who Umar was, y'all?
Umar radiyallahu anhu.
There was a man by the name of
Hudaifah.
Hudaifah was the secret keeper of the Prophet,
peace be upon him.
And he knew all of the munafiqeen by
name.
The Prophet had taught him.
This person is a munafiq.
This, this, this.
He had the name.
Umar came to him one day.
This is after the Prophet passed away.
He said, I know you won't tell me
who's on the list.
But just let me know, am I on
the list?
Am I on the list?
Am I on the list?
Bukhari has a narration.
Ibn Abi Mulaika.
He's a tabi, meaning he saw the companions.
He said, I met 30 companions, sahaba.
Every one of them feared that they were
a munafiq.
Because munafiq is about the external not matching
the internal.
So Hanzala is walking around and he's like,
I'm a munafiq, I'm a munafiq.
Abu Bakr's like, bro, what are you saying?
He goes, when I'm with the Prophet, salallahu
alayhi wasalam, when I'm in the gathering, I
can see Jannah.
You know how I was just saying like
we're on the Day of Judgment?
He's like, I can see Jannah.
I can see the people of Jannah running,
meeting each other, dapping each other up.
Y'all come to my spot.
I can see it.
And I can hear the screams of hellfire.
When I'm with the Prophet, I can hear
hellfire, man.
Yo, side note, I wanna share something with
y'all.
I went for Umrah like last week.
No, that was like three weeks ago.
Feels like it was last week, bro.
Three weeks ago, alhamdulillah, I went for Umrah,
right?
Well, there's a group that went with us
called Muhsin.
Now, Muhsin is a group that only works
with special needs people.
Special needs.
They take people for Umrah with special needs
but they're family.
And there's some people in this room that
actually volunteer to go.
I ain't gonna call them out.
There was a sister, convert.
She's blind.
And she was born blind.
And they were taking her for tawaf.
And when she was doing tawaf, she said
to the person guiding her, she said, Wallahi,
I can see the Ka'bah.
She said, Wallahi, I can see it.
And then, you know how when you're doing
tawaf you can hear the people?
She says, I can hear the people.
She says, I swear this is what the
people of Jannah sound like in my dreams.
I've dreamed of Jannah and this is the
sound.
This is what it sounds like to me.
Hanzala was like, when I'm with the Prophet,
Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam, I see Jannah.
But then when I go home, I'm playing
with my children.
I'm with my wifey.
We're just kicking, kicking it, having a good
time.
Naseena kathira.
I forget everything.
I'm at home joking.
Just 20 minutes ago, I was in tears
in the Prophet's gathering.
I was walking through the streets of Jannah
in the gathering.
I go home, I'm just in ghafra.
Like, what investment we bought them in.
Abu Bakr heard this and he goes, yo,
that's me too.
Meaning, I'm like this.
Remember, I told you, munatik is two-faced.
He's like, when I'm with the Prophet, I'm
like this.
But when I go home, I'm like this.
I must be a munatik.
Abu Bakr goes, me too.
Me too.
He goes, all right, let's both go to
the Prophet's side.
Now that's how you know before we go
forward, Abu Bakr's real.
Because in that moment, he didn't go, oh,
I'm like that too.
That means you must be good, yo.
He goes, nah, I'm like that too.
That means we both messed up.
That means there's a problem with both of
us.
Let's go to the Prophet.
They told the Prophet, alayhi salatu wasalam.
The Prophet looked at Hanzala.
He said, sa'aten, sa'aten.
And then he said, he said, moment for
moment.
Meaning, nothing in life will be perpetual.
Nothing in life will be perpetual.
That's why we say discipline over motivation all
day.
Because nothing in life, you're never going to
feel the tahajjud feel.
You fast one week, you feel amazing.
You're always fasting.
Next week you fast, you don't feel that
feel.
First week of Ramadan, amazing.
Middle 10, oh man, last 10.
Sa'aten, sa'aten.
Then the Prophet said something deep, salallahu alayhi
wasalam.
He said, ya Hanzala, if you were to
stay on that level, the angels would, he
said, shake your hand, but they would dap
you up in the street.
The angels would shake your hand if you
stayed on that level all day.
But the point is that I want to
make is that they feared for themselves nifaq.
And nifaq or hypocrisy is that double-sided.
That I'm in this group, I'm here on
this side, I'm that side.
No, no, I'm a believer.
I'm going down with the ship.
I'm going down with the ship, yo.
That's how Abu Bakr was.
Somebody gave an example, Tariq bin Ziyad.
He's the one that conquered.
I'm going to get to the verse, but
I need you to understand this concept and
what it means to just give everything to
the cause.
Tariq bin Ziyad was the one that conquered
what country?
Andalus, Spain.
When they got on the side of Andalus,
he burned the ships.
He burned the ships.
They're like, yo, what are you doing?
He said, there's only one way now.
I heard a scholar say that's the opposite
of nifaq.
There's no going, we're going forward, that's it.
That's all that's left.
So the Prophet ﷺ, this verse is speaking
about, and the reason I wanted to say
this is because when we read this verse,
a lot of us, whenever it says like
munafiqeen, we're like, oh yeah, those people are
really bad.
No, this verse, the sahaba thought it was
talking about them, yo.
They thought it was them.
They thought it was them.
The light was given.
Everyone amongst the believers was given light.
And now they have their light.
They're moving with their light because I got
to get to Jannah.
The munafiqeen have a light because they had
لا إله إلا الله on their tongue.
They have a light.
But the moment they start to move, the
light goes out.
They have no light.
No more to walk.
See, that's the thing.
You didn't walk by it in this life,
how are you going to have it in
the akhirah?
You had to have it in the dunya
to have it there.
That's the key.
The day that the
hypocrite men and women, the ones whose external
didn't match the internal, they will say, لِلَّذِينَ
They'll see the believers with that light.
They see the believers with that light.
So they look at them and they say,
لِلَّذِينَ آمَنُوا أُنظُرُونَ They say to them, أُنظُرُونَ
Yo, wait for us.
Wait for us.
Yo, hold up.
I need light to walk with.
Hold up, wait for me.
Some scholars say أُنظُرُونَ means look at us.
Because if you just turn towards me, I
get light in front of me.
Just look at me.
Just look at me, I'll have light.
It's crazy because they want the believers to
be with them in the dunya, but they
didn't want to be with the believers in
the akhirah, but they didn't want to be
with the believers in the dunya.
So now they're saying to the believers, Yo,
just look at us.
Okay, hold on, let me break this down.
There were some leading hypocrites of Medina that
were like, We want to chill and we
want to come to the gathering, but there's
too many like Bilal, Suhaib, these low class
Muslims.
We can't be around them.
We need a special gathering.
But now on the Day of Judgment, they're
asking those believers, Yo, can you just look
at me please?
I need to walk in your light.
I need light to walk by.
They'll say to
the believers who have light, انظرونا Yo, wait
for us.
Wait for us.
نقتبس من نوركم Let us, you know, نقتبس
Yo, come forward just a little bit.
There's brothers standing.
There's mad room up here, y'all.
So just slide up, slide up.
Please.
So the brother's standing.
There's room, mashallah.
There's tons of room, mashallah.
is when you take your candle and you
put it next to somebody else's candle and
you take light from it.
So what are they saying?
Yo, wait for us.
Let us get some of your light.
An angel's gonna
say in that moment, as we try, as
some of us try to get light from
the believers, and we say, yo, wait for
us.
Let us get some of your light.
An angel will say at that moment, no,
no, no.
You gotta go back and get light.
Go back behind you.
Go back over there.
You know where the light was given out?
Y'all gotta go back there and get
light.
You know what scholars say?
The scholars are saying, the angels are saying,
you want light?
You gotta go back to the dunya.
But it's too late.
You know what's crazy, y'all?
Why is Allah telling us about this moment
that will happen for sure?
This is a moment that will happen in
the akhirah.
Why is Allah telling us today, in this
moment, we're living right now.
Why is Allah telling us about this moment
that's going to happen?
Hindsight is 20-20 vision.
Allah is looking back.
He's telling us so that we are on
the right side of this equation on the
Day of Judgment.
It will be
said in that moment.
No, no, no.
Y'all, your lights went out.
Oh.
You gotta go back.
Go back over there where the light was
distributed.
Y'all gotta go get more light over
there.
And go get light from over
there.
So they'll separate.
Oh, we got light over there for us?
So all those whose lights went out, may
Allah protect us, all those whose lights went
out, they're gonna step off to the side
because the angels just said go over there
and get nur.
And notice the word in Arabic
is التمس و التمس التمس means search for
it, look for it.
Go over there and look for light.
Because in this dunya, living by light ain't
hard.
You gotta struggle.
We gotta struggle.
Yo, yo, man.
You go visit a Muslim country.
I ain't saying we all need to do
hijrah.
I got a whole opinion on that.
But you just got the Adhan bouncing off
the walls everywhere.
You ride down the street, مسلة You at
the airport, مسلة You know what I mean?
You at the gas station, it's like مسلة.
You know what I mean?
Over here, it's just like, yo.
Let me bust out my prayer rug real
quick, yo.
Boom.
Over here, you gotta يلتمسوا نورا In the
dunya, you have to يلتمس You gotta look
for light.
Some of y'all drove like 30 minutes,
25 minutes.
We're looking for light.
So on the Day of Judgment, when the
منافقين don't have light, the angels say go
back over there يلتمسوا Because the believers who
have it on the Day of Judgment, they
looked for it, bro.
Are you looking for light?
Are you expecting light to just drop in
your lap?
You gotta search for light, man.
You gotta search for light.
And you know why you gotta search?
Because when you search and you get it,
you value it.
You value it.
So if Allah makes you go through a
dark period, but you come out on the
other side valuing light, so be it.
You value light now.
You value light.
Alhamdulillah.
But at least we won't be on the
Day of Judgment the ones being told, no,
no, no.
When it's too late to look
for light.
فَالْتَمِسُوا نُورًا Oh, no, no.
Go over there.
Y'all gotta look for light over there.
And the moment they separate.
See, the thing is, right now we're all
together.
Right now all of us are together.
The mukhlis and the ones showing off are
all together here.
All of us.
On the Day of Judgment it's called Yawm
al-Fasl.
The day of separation.
Where everyone's level gets seen clear.
So Allah separates on that day.
And the moment they separate Allah says,
Allah says the moment
the munafiqeen, the hypocrites separate going to look
for light, a wall comes down in between
them.
See it.
Picture it.
Which side am I on, yo?
Umar thought he would be on the other
side.
He was scared.
Which side am I on?
And when you're scared, you'll wake up for
fajr tomorrow.
When you're scared, you'll lower your gaze.
When you're scared, you'll be on top of
your gaze.
So a wall will come down.
A door will come down.
But it will have a door
on the wall.
I read, مُفَسِّرِين, they said, you know why
there's a door there?
So the people, the munafiqeen can look through
and see the pleasure and delight of the
people on the other side.
Like Allah's like, no, you need to see
what they're going through over there.
Because the day of judgment is called the
day of regret, remorse.
So it's not just like I'm on the
other side.
I see what's popping over there.
I see what they're enjoying as they walk
into Jannah.
On one side is mercy.
What is mercy?
On one side is Jannah.
On one side is Jannah, the sounds of
Jannah, the beauty of Jannah, the colors of
Jannah.
That which no eye
has heard.
No ear has, I'm sorry y'all.
That which no, thank you.
No, Jannah is another level.
I had a friend, we were studying, we
would talk about Jannah.
Because when you're young, you gotta talk about
Jannah a lot.
You know what I mean?
It gets you through the hard days.
I had a friend, he used to be
like, bro, Jannah starts where your imagination stops,
bro.
Because whatever you can think about is from
this dunya.
And Allah says, you'll have something from the
dunya, but you'll be like, this ain't it.
This reminds me of that, but this ain't
it.
It's the matrix, you know what I mean?
Allahu Akbar.
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala, He says,
A wall comes down.
A wall comes down separating, just between them.
And there's a door on the wall though.
On the inside of the door.
On the inside of the
wall.
It's just mercy of God.
The mercy of Allah.
And on the other
side of the wall is nothing but, don't
let that go over your head.
Picture that, be there.
We always want those verses that will scare
us.
This is it.
But guess what, it's not
over.
Allah says, stay here for a moment.
The people on the side of the
punishment will call over the wall.
They'll call over.
Yo, weren't we with y'all?
It's crazy.
You know the Mufassir there say, we
prayed with you.
I heard a Sheikh say, Abdullah bin Ubay
bin Sulul and Umar and Abu Bakr would
have been praying in the first Saf together.
Okay, let me break that down.
Abdullah bin Ubay bin Sulul was the leader
of the Munafiqeen.
He did everything in his power to circumvent
everything the Prophet was doing.
He said with his tongue he believed, but
he didn't believe.
He was in the first Saf and Abu
Bakr was right next to him.
They were in the first
Saf together.
So the Munafiqeen, they're yelling to the other
side, أَلَمْنَكُمْ مَعَكُمْ Weren't we with you?
The scholars say, we prayed with you.
We did Umrah with you.
We fasted with you.
We broke fast together.
Our families married each other.
One of the scholars, he says,
yeah, they were with us, but they weren't
with us.
He says, they were with us in body,
but not in intention.
Hold up.
They were with us in body, but their
hearts weren't with the deen.
May Allah put our hearts with the deen.
May Allah put our hearts with the Prophet
ﷺ.
May Allah put our hearts with the people
of Palestine and Gaza, Sudan.
Put our hearts with them.
See, what this verse tells me, it doesn't
matter where your physical proximity is, it matters
where your heart is.
So some of y'all sitting in this
room right now, your heart hasn't left Gaza.
I'm looking at them.
Some of us, right now, our heart hasn't
left Syria.
Your heart is there even though you're in
the middle of Dallas, Texas.
They say, yo, we were
with you.
Whenever I do Umrah, and we have a
group, I tell them, I say, y'all,
we just did Umrah together.
I don't know if I'm ever gonna see
you in this dunya again.
People come, we do Umrah together, whatever.
Like on the Day of Judgment, you don't
see me, come get me.
We were together.
We did Umrah together.
We prayed together.
So they will say to the believers,
Imagine the dialogue over the wall.
Weren't we with you?
The believers on the side of mercy will
reply.
They'll reply.
They'll say, yeah, yeah, you were
with us.
But you put your five
things they mentioned that they did.
Five things that they mentioned that they did.
Number one, فَتَنْتُمْ أَنفُسَكُمْ You put yourself in
fitna.
You kept taking yourself to the places where
you know there's fitna.
Hold up.
Allah says that this dunya is a place
of fitna.
We have made this dunya beautiful to
test you.
This dunya is fitna.
Fitna.
Allah says your wealth and your children are
fitna.
They are fitna because you start to love
them so much.
You start to love them so much.
No, no, no.
You don't understand.
You remember last week when Abu Dahda, the
Prophet said who's going to give us sadaqa?
Abu Dahda, he goes, who's going to give
charity?
Who's going to give a loan to God?
He says a loan?
God needs a loan from me?
I give you my garden.
How many date palms did he have?
Top quiz.
600 date palm trees in the garden.
He goes home and yells from the door,
Grab the kids, grab our stuff.
I gave the garden and sadaqa for the
sake of Allah.
The point I'm trying to make is the
beauty of the dunya by nature makes you
not want to give from it.
And so Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala, the
believers say to the munafiqeen, فَتَنْتُمْ أَنفُسَكُمْ You
put yourself into fitna.
Here's my question.
Why do you keep putting yourself in the
places where you know you're going to slip
up?
You keep, yo, yo.
I was thinking about this verse all week.
And it had me double stepping like crazy.
Because you know there's fitna here, but we
start walking in the direction of it like
no, I ain't going to get in the
fitna.
Boom, right there.
And while you were walking low key, you
knew in your head where the fitna, where
it led to.
And if you just, and this verse had
me stopping in my tracks.
Because فَتَنْتُمْ أَنفُسَكُمْ We keep putting ourselves in
those compromising places where we know, oh man,
that was a tough situation.
Man, subhanAllah, my iman got tested.
Why you keep going there?
Of course there's things where it's ضرورة, necessary.
I gotta take that class.
I gotta work at this job.
Cool.
I'm talking about where we have the volition
and you just keep putting yourself into those
positions.
So the first thing that says,
You put yourself in fitna.
Yes, the dunya is fitna automatically, but you
made it extra hard for yourself, habibi.
Number one.
And the moment you
got caught up in fitna, it made you
wait, it made you hesitate.
See Abu Dahda, when the Prophet asked for
a loan, he gave it right away.
But once you start putting yourself in fitna
more often, you start hesitating for the good.
You start تَرَبَّصْتُمْ Now there's two meanings of
One, one, is you kept hesitating, you
kept waiting.
You kept waiting.
There was opportunity to do good, you didn't
hop on it right away.
You kept waiting.
How long you gonna wait for?
You gotta jump on good opportunities right away.
You kept waiting.
They say that the most people will be
in the hellfire because of sawfa.
You know what sawfa in Arabic means?
I'll do it tomorrow.
I'll do it tomorrow.
Majority of people in hellfire because of the
word sawfa.
Until they end up in the hellfire.
وَتَرَبَّصْتُمْ The other meaning of تَرَبَّصْتُمْ You know
what the other meaning is?
You were waiting for the Muslims to lose.
Why didn't
he truly believe?
Because in the back of his mind, he
was like, yo, this is gonna die out.
I'm gonna believe with the believers, but this
is gonna die out soon.
You were waiting to see the downfall of
other believers.
Number two.
Number three.
And you let doubts fester in your
heart.
وَارْتَبَتُمْ is from the word رَيْب which means
doubts.
And here it's important.
The Sahaba, they one time said, they said,
ya Rasulullah, sometimes we get these thoughts that
we'd rather die than speak what we think.
The Prophet was like, oh, you get those
thoughts?
They were like, yeah.
He was like, الحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ ذَلِكَ سَرِيحُ الْإِمَانِ
The Prophet said, الحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ that's faith.
You get those thoughts and then you hate
them.
That's your iman.
Shaytan, of course, is always gonna put thoughts.
But these people here, they stayed in doubt.
Is there Allah?
Is the deen true?
Is the Prophet true?
They lived in doubt.
But the doubt was connected to putting themselves
in fitna.
You gotta understand the connection to the actions.
Putting themselves in fitna is what led to
them holding back from doing good.
And holding back from doing good, hold up,
let me back up.
You remember last week I said, you wanna
build your iman?
You wanna really believe in akhira?
Hold up, you ready?
Send something to akhira.
If you want stronger iman in akhira, you
gotta send something there.
Now you could either send it on your
own or Allah will put it forward for
you.
You know Ammu Khalid, rahimahu Allah.
Ammu Khalid, yarhamu.
He was speaking to a Ghazdan girl who
lost her leg.
Baby, tifad.
And he said, don't cry.
Your leg just went ahead of you.
Your leg just went ahead of you.
She lost her leg in Ghazdan.
She's 6 years old, 7 years old.
He said, don't cry.
Your leg just went ahead.
It's just ahead of you.
You're gonna catch up to it.
And he got there first.
He already caught up to his granddaughter.
See, when you want to believe in akhira,
you gotta send something there.
Now you can either send it on your
own or Allah will send it for you.
You could take your money, your time, your
wealth and give it for the sake of
Allah.
Now I'm waiting for akhira.
I gotta get to akhira.
Why?
Because I already put 20 grand over there.
You know what I'm saying?
Like, why are you so...
Because I got a lot of money over
there, bro.
No, for real.
That's how you build your faith in akhira.
You send something over there.
That's how you do it.
And if you don't, then Allah will build
your iman by sending someone.
Because we all lose people.
May Allah preserve all of our loved ones.
But that's the nature of life.
The nature of life is you're gonna send
somebody ahead and you're gonna be like, you
know what?
I gotta get to Jannah.
Because I miss grandma.
I miss my dad.
I truly miss my dad.
I miss my bro.
I miss this guy.
Stay in Jannah, man.
I gotta get there.
So the doubt was connected to the hesitation.
And the hesitation was connected to the fact
that they kept putting themselves in fitna.
That's where the doubts came.
So if you wanna build iman, you gotta
invest in the akhira.
And you know, when you're
off the deen, there's this nafsul lawwama.
There's this hurt.
It doesn't feel good.
It doesn't feel good to not be in
line with Allah.
Y'all know what I mean.
We've all felt it.
Where it's like, man, I'm not on my
deen.
And it doesn't feel good.
So there's this kind of cognitive thing that
we do to make ourselves feel better.
And that's what the verse says,
You let your wishful thinking deceive you.
What does that mean?
Allah ghafoorur raheem.
Allah ghafoorur raheem.
I don't salli, Allah ghafoorur raheem.
I don't do what I need to do,
Allah ghafoorur raheem.
Yes, He is ghafoorur raheem.
But that's not all He is.
And He's made things in a way that
they have a cause and effect.
They have a cause and effect.
Ibn Qayyim al-Jawzi, he said, The one
who doesn't connect to Allah and keeps saying
Allah is ghafoorur raheem is like the one
waiting for crops from seeds they never planted.
From seeds they never planted.
You could say ghafoorur raheem when you planted
a seed, then I hope that it will
grow.
I have hope that it will grow because
the land is fertile because I planted the
seed.
But if I never planted the seed, what
does it mean to have hope in something
growing from that?
That's called false hopes.
But the false hopes come because of all
of the four things right before that.
But you let your false hopes
deceive you regarding Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
These
five things kept going.
Put yourself in fitna.
Always hesitating to do good.
Staying in doubt.
Deceiving yourself regarding Allah.
Four things.
This kept happening.
This cycle that we live in.
This cycle.
Until the command of
Allah came.
You know what that is, right?
Your time to leave.
You kept living in this cycle.
And number five.
And indeed, Shaytan deceived you
about who Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى is.
He deceived you.
And He is شَكُورَ The littlest good you
do, Allah appreciates it.
Under your breath right now.
Under your breath right now.
It took half a second.
You said it.
You were like, يا الله I feel close
to you in this moment.
Allah appreciates the smallest
good.
He lifts up the smallest good.
But do the good.
Do the good, then hope.
Shaytan is going to tell you, yo, that
good you just did was little, bro.
You know how much bad you've been doing?
But you know what you tell him?
You know what you tell him?
There is no such thing as small good
with God.
And there's no such thing as big wrong
with Allah either.
The biggest sin can be forgiven, and the
smallest thing.
Hold up.
Time out.
Hadith all of us know, yo.
A woman who was living a life of
sin, sin.
You know, big sin.
One day she saw a dog that was
thirsty.
You know the hadith.
She went down into a well, brought out
water, gave the dog water.
God jannah for that one action.
Just do the good.
Just do the good.
Allah Subh'anaHu Wa Ta-A'la says,
We're on the next verse.
Allah says, On this day, no ransom will
be taken for you.
You know, you're headed in this direction.
These people are headed in this direction, and
they're thinking, I wish I could give everything
of this world to be on the other
side of that wall.
Allah says, I'm sorry, but today there's no
ransom for you.
You were supposed to give that up in
the dunya.
You could have gave all your possessions in
the dunya.
You could have gave all your time in
the dunya.
But today,
And no ransom will be
taken on behalf of the disbelievers.
Hold up.
Ready?
Your home.
Your home.
Your place of return shall be fire.
It will be entrusted.
You will be entrusted to it.
You know what always scared me,
y'all?
Many of us look at hellfire like a
place, right?
Like a jail, a place you go to.
You look at the Quran and Sunnah, *
is a lie, y'all.
* is a lie.
The Quran says, people will be filled into
it.
And * will say, are there any more
to come?
* speaking.
* will say to the Kafir, I am
God's punishment upon you.
You know why that hits me different?
Because if Allah was punishing me, then I
know He's Ghafoor Rahim.
But when I'm handed over to somebody else,
when I'm handed over to somebody else who
don't know what I, me and him.
No, for real.
That's what hits me different.
You will be entrusted to this
hellfire.
He's in charge of you now.
Who, the one that just said, are there
any more?
And then Allah says, وَبِئْسَ الْمَصِيرِ That's the
worst place to go back to.
Brothers and sisters, these verses are heavy.
But they're heavy for a reason.
I know they're heavy, but they're heavy for
a reason.
Are you ready for the next verse?
Are we ready for the next verse?
Listen to what Allah ﷻ says next.
Allah asks you a question.
Remember what I said last week.
When God asks you a question, answer it.
Don't just listen, answer God.
He's asking you.
These words are addressed to me, Mikael.
Allah is asking me a question, I'm gonna
respond.
Has not
the time come for those who believe?
Put your name in there.
Mikael, I'm gonna say Mikael.
Hasn't the time come for you, Mikael,
to fear God?
Hold up.
What are you waiting for?
Has not the time
come?
Do you know how many people became awliya
when they heard this verse?
There's a story of one of the awliya
of Allah.
This man was living a life.
Out there.
All of it.
Alcohol, women, everything.
He's on the top of his roof.
You know those style roofs where you're on
the top but you're outside still?
You know what I'm talking about?
So he's on the top of the roof.
Barely sober.
In a Muslim country.
And he hears someone praying tahajjud.
Reciting this verse.
Hasn't the time come for those who
believe to fear God?
And the person praying tahajjud just was repeating
it.
Repeating it.
He heard the verse and he said, Yes,
time is it.
I'm done.
I'm done.
My life changes from this moment.
He answered the call of Allah.
So after that deep conversation about hellfire that
left us feeling like, Yo, this halakha is
too heavy.
I ain't coming back to Qalam.
You know what I mean?
You know, right when it was getting heavy,
Allah says, Hold up.
Hold up.
Isn't the time?
Isn't it time?
So here's another way of asking the same
question.
What are you waiting for?
How long do you have to be?
How old do you have to be?
How old do you have?
What more do you need to see?
People are going ahead to akhira, y'all.
Abu Khalid was just smiling at all of
us and now he's smiling down at us.
People are going forward, y'all.
Life is like this.
So Allah says at the end of that
very, very serious conversation, He just asked, أَلَمْ
Is it not time?
Is it time?
Let's read the verse.
Has not the time come for those
who believe أَن تَخْشَأَ قُلُوبَهُمْ that their hearts
fear?
That verse we just read was scary.
Allah's like, bro, it's time for some fear
in your life of Allah.
We fear not getting a job.
We fear not getting married.
We fear not being successful.
We fear not getting our parents' pleasure.
We fear a lot of stuff.
Allah says, isn't it time that we just
fear Allah?
How long are you going to live life
fearing everything?
Isn't it time?
And all you gotta do is when you
hear it, say yes, that's it.
That's all you have to do.
Allah will do the rest, y'all.
See, shaitan makes you think too much.
If I say yes, that means tomorrow.
Nah.
Nah.
Just say yes.
Just say to Allah, yes.
Just say yes.
And let Allah do the rest.
That's it.
Has not the time come Yes,
y'all, Allah, it's come.
It's come.
Has not the time come for those
who believe that their hearts fear due to
the remembrance of Allah and that tells you
ذكر الله is what will give you fear
of God.
You need more dhikr in your life.
أَكْبَرُ Dhikr will bring خَشْيَة خَشْيَة or fear.
Hold up though.
What do we mean by fear?
You know what fear is?
Say, see, سُبْحَانَ اللَّهُ It's not the fear.
See, fear of God is different.
Fear of Allah is the fear of upsetting
the one that loves you the most.
Upsetting the one that has the most expectations
or knowing you can accomplish so much.
I heard one person say, but it's like
your mother, man.
We fear moms, right?
When you're a certain age, you ain't scared
because she's going to like hit you.
But back in the day, you hide the
report card because, you know what I mean?
You know what I mean?
But when you reach a certain age, you're
like, yo, mom, I can like, you ain't
going to hurt me.
You know what I mean?
But then the fear shifts.
It's a fear that I let moms down.
She see me doing something I'm not supposed
to do.
She see me doing something I'm not supposed
to do.
That's the fear.
Some say that's the fear of Allah.
Like how can Allah see you in a
place you're not supposed to be?
No, no, yeah, yeah.
You at a spot you ain't supposed to
be, Allah sees you there.
Or you're engaged in an action you're not
supposed to, Allah sees you in that action.
Fear of Allah is not, it's based out
of love.
It's based out of love, y'all.
That's the foundation of fear of Allah.
It's based out of love.
And Allah has given me so much.
Allah has given us so much that I'm
scared to displease Him.
To upset Him with all His blessings still
on me.
That's what we mean, fear of Allah.
He didn't have to give you what you
have.
But He did.
Their hearts should have this fear of God.
And you know what the other fear is
for me?
He could change your state in
a second.
The dua He used to make the most,
You
old turner of hearts, keep my heart firm
on this deen.
Keep my heart firm on لا إله إلا
الله.
You don't know what you're gonna wake up
tomorrow as, y'all.
And that's what I fear.
You don't know what you'll wake up tomorrow
as.
Fear Allah.
Fear based out of love.
Isn't it time for
them to fear Allah due to the remembrance
of God and due to what has been
revealed?
Like you just heard these beautiful verses that
were depicting the Day of Judgment.
Allah's saying, is that not enough?
What more do I need to reveal for
your heart to wake up?
Y'all, you don't
know how much this speaks to the scholars
of the deen.
The speakers, the scholars, the qurra.
These verses are heavy.
Allah says, and do not be like those
who were given the book.
They were given the book.
They were given the book before.
But you know what happened?
They had it too long.
They got used to it.
Let me give an example.
The Prophet ﷺ, he said, what's the worst
job?
It's halal, but it's the worst job.
Who knows?
Y'all gonna say some weird stuff, let
me just tell you.
Uh, uh, uh, gravedigger.
Gravedigger.
You know why?
You get used to death.
Death is supposed to wake you up.
But you just dug five graves today, you're
just like, yo, who's next?
So what happens?
The Prophet is teaching, Allah is teaching us,
don't be like those who were given the
book, and they had it so long they
got used to it.
That's why Sahaba used to say,
Yo, come here, let's revive our faith,
yo.
سَعَالْ Come on, نُؤْمِنْ سَعَالْ Let's come down,
sit down with me, let's rekindle our faith.
In one hadith, the Prophet said, جَدِّدُوا اِمَانَكُمْ
Renew your faith, yo.
The Sahaba were like, how do we do
that?
The Prophet said, Renew it.
So do not be like those who were
given the book before, but they had it
so long they got used to it.
That's why people keep converting to Islam, they're
like, yo, those are the only people really
on the deen.
Like they believe in what they believe in.
They stand by what they believe in.
A long
time passed.
They had it too long.
And guess what happened?
May Allah protect us from this next word.
Ask Allah, beg Allah.
A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and
he said, ya Rasulullah, I have a hard
heart.
What do I do?
What do I do?
The Prophet ﷺ said, اِمْسَحْ رَأْسَ الْيَتِيمِ Go
touch the head of an orphan.
He said, Amo Khalid.
Go touch the head.
Be around an orphan.
Be around people on the other side of
society.
Our hearts are hard because we're always on
this side of the society.
Do you get what I'm saying?
The Prophet ﷺ said, you want a soft
heart?
Be on this side of the socio-economic
ladder.
Spend more time there.
Heart will soften.
And so many
of those who were given the book.
Five minutes.
And so many of them who were given
a book are open transgressors.
They had the book, but they live lives
of sin.
One last verse and we'll stop, okay?
And it ends with so much hope.
Alright,
listen.
We're gonna stop here, I promise you.
But please stick with me for this verse.
Allah says, اِعْلَمُوا, no.
Understand.
Know this fact I'm about to say.
اِعْلَمُوا, know this.
Allah brings
the earth back to life after it's dead.
Wait, hold on.
We were just talking about hearts.
We were just talking about the Day of
Judgment.
Why did Allah just switch it up and
talk about the springtime?
Because the same way that land and trees
die but they come back alive, hearts die.
Hearts die.
But guess what?
When the
rain comes down, you see the leaves come
back.
When revelation comes down and you're sitting and
you're listening to Quran and all of a
sudden you're like, Oh, I'm back, ya Allah.
Know that
Allah brings back a dead earth after it
was, brings it back to life after it
was dead.
The scholars say, this is your heart he's
speaking about.
Don't sit in this gathering and say, my
heart is dead, I'm done, bro.
That was a great talk, but I'm done.
No, you're not.
This is for you.
This is literally about you.
Allah says, I will bring your heart back.
Just ask me to, I'll bring it back.
And keep asking me, don't ask and then,
it's been a month, ask again.
Just keep asking Allah.
We're done.
Know
that indeed Allah brings back to life the
earth after it was dead.
He's telling you that to reflect on your
heart.
Then Allah says, I
made it clear to you.
Tonight was so clear.
The day of judgment, I felt like I
was there.
The conversation, I felt like I was there.
It was so clear.
I made
all my signs so clear to you.
Why was this whole message here?
Just for you to think.
Where's your life going?
So you can understand.
Why are we in this dunya?
What are we here for?
What will Qiyamah be like so that you
can understand?
Allah says, I sent all of these signs
just to give you a deeper understanding of
what you're here in this dunya for.
Brothers and sisters, we just spent an hour
just reflecting on the beauty of the Qur
'an.
And now we gotta go back to the
dunya.
But we go back stronger.
We go back clearer.
We go back with a more focused purpose.
May Allah connect our hearts to the Qur
'an.
May Allah ﷻ give stability and khair to
the people of Syria.
May Allah ﷻ give goodness and khair to
the people of Gaza and Sudan.
May Allah ﷻ put our hearts with their
hearts.
May Allah join our hearts with the hearts
of the people of goodness.
May Allah revive our hearts that are hard
and make them soft with His remembrance.
Just housekeeping, so everyone knows.
I know the masjid's being rebuilt.
So the sisters' prayer area is that room
in the back over there for now temporarily.
And when the sisters move, brothers, we'll just
move over into this area for Salatul Isha.
