My
dear brothers and sisters,
in today's Friday, we want to talk about the concept of izzah,
glory, dignity, honor as it is derived and only can be derived
from Allah Aziz, the one who possesses the true might, the true
glory and the true honor. There's a Hadith of the Prophet sallallahu
sallam, a very famous Hadith in Tirmidhi. And he narrates this to
us Ibn Abbas, the nephew, in which he says, one time I was with the
Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. And he tells me, yeah,
Ali, muka, kalimat, I'm going to teach you some words that were
going to benefit you. If Allah preserve Allah, Subhanahu wa, he
will preserve you. And then he says that to keep in mind, either
if you ask everyone for something that will benefit you for anything
that will benefit you, first Allah. Then make sure you ask
Allah, Subhanahu wa and know that the whole Ummah, if they were
together to benefit you with anything, they could not benefit
you except with that which Allah already has written for you. And
if they were to harm you with anything, they would never be able
to harm you except that which Allah has already ordained for
you. Why is this hadith the start of our khutbah today? Because it
not only teaches Ibn Abbas, the young boy, that the true power is
with Allah subhanahu wa is with Allah subhana wa taala, but it
teaches everyone else as well, the grown ups who are going to teach
it to their children. Because what we have today is a
misplacement of Isa. People try to attain dishonor, this dignity from
other than Allah, Subhanahu wa you see, for example, in the search
and pursuit of happiness, seeking through money, through power,
through position, people try to get this honor. In the case of
sulkaf, when you see the two men who are arguing amongst each other
or debating with one another one, he says to him, and Alan, I'm more
than you in wealth, and I have more people, more children than
you, meaning I possess that which will give me honor, or so he
thinks, but the true honor, Allah, subhanaw taala says, lillah, the
two Allah belong the true and absolute might, the dignity that
we seek from other things like money and position and power that
could only come from Allah subhanahu. Wa, it may come
temporarily in other forms. You may get it for a little while. You
may get that elevation. You may get that honor in a little while.
But the temporary, it's only temporary. The permanent is with
Allah subhanahu wa taala. And we see that Allah subhanaw taala,
even in the case of a man who is said to him fear Allah, it tak
Allah ALA, what happens to him when it is telling him to remind
him of, be aware of ALLAH SubhanA wa taala. What happens to this
man? Akhada is a tobilith. He is overtaken by his sin. He feels
rattled because of what he's doing, of misconduct. Maybe you're
advising him about some fraud he's doing because he's in a position
of power, and because he feels that power is what gives him the
honor he can't take it when you say to him, takila, fear Allah. Be
conscious of Allah with what you're doing. And so this becomes
the misplacement of the disbelievers and the munafiqun
themselves. The hypocrites are known for this. In the case where
one of the ghazawa, they were coming back, and what happened was
they were waiting in line for water. There had been severe
thirst among the companions, the muhajirun, the Ansar, and those
who were with them. And so as they're waiting on this line to
get some water, one of the muhajirun, he was a servant of the
muhajirun, so he was of the lower class. He got into an argument
with one of the Ashraf of Medina, of the Ansar, one of the noble men
of Medina. And so they got into a scuffle, and they called each
other names, and they called each other's camps to come and defend
them. So one of them would say, yeah, muhajirun, and the other one
would say, Yeah, Ansar. And so when the Prophet sallam, he heard
this, he says, this is a filthy way that you are labeling
yourselves in in and of itself, to be a muhajir is an honorable
thing, and to be an Ansar is an honorable thing, but when you use
it to fight one another, when you use it against one another to
justify that you are more honorable than the other, then
that becomes debased in the eyes of Allah. And that is why the
Prophet sallam, he said, This is filthy what you're doing. And who
took advantage of this? Abdullah ibn Abi salud, the leader of the
hypocrites, when he heard that one of his old men, because he used to
be the one that was going to be the leader of Medina. Had it not
been for the Prophet sallallahu sallam, he would have been the
king they were going, they were going to crown him to be the king
of Medina. And so when he heard this, he wanted to instigate this.
He says, How can a servant of the muhajirun these immigrants who
came to our land?
Is, how could they dare speak to one of our Ashraf this way? You
know, he didn't think of it. Because before Islam, there was no
sense of everyone is equal in the eyes of Allah. There was no sense
of that. The best of you are the ones who have the most Taqwa.
There was no sense of that. It was tribalism, it was class system,
and many societies have that today. But then Alhamdulillah, for
Islam that regulated and put us all in in our place. And Allah,
Subhanahu wa says in the aqam akum and Allah that the best of you in
the eyes of Allah are those who had the most Taqwa of Allah, those
who have the most consciousness of Allah. So what did he say? Ibn
Abdullah? He called the Secret camp, and he called the men of
Medina who were already heeded about the situation. And he says
to them, il Medina, if we were to go back to Medina azumin, we will
surely take out all US that are honorable and noble. We will
debase those that are of the peasants, so to speak, those of
lower class. We will make sure they kick them out and know that
they and he will put them in their place. And so this secret meeting
was used to instigate the matter and feel because every chance he
could divide between the brothers, he would do that. And so we must
be also aware of those kind of rumors that happen between
brothers when they are pulled to the side. You know, the Egyptian
camp, the Palestinian camp, the Sudanese camp, Pakistani camp,
these sorts of things are looked at as filthy in the eyes of Allah
subhanahu wa when they're used to divide because at the end of the
day in IQ that the true believers are really brothers, and there's a
bond there that cannot be broken. So Abdullah ibn Abi salud, he
spread this sort of instigation. A little boy heard him told his
uncle, who then told the prophet muhammad sallallahu, alayhi wa
sallam. So the Prophet sallallahu called Abdullah bin abhi salud and
he says,
Did you say that? Did you try to divide us using these sorts of
rhetorics? And then Abdullah bin abhisalahu, of course, denied it.
He says, I did not say it. But Allah subhana wa Taala above the
seven heavens sent down in sutra munafiqun the verses that quoted
him verbatim. And he says exactly what I just mentioned. When we
return to Medina, we will surely have our noblemen expel those who
are abased from it. And then Allah subhanahu wa emphasized. He says,
dillah he to Allah belong to is that Walid Rasul, meaning, and to
the messengers and to the believers. It is Allah who
allocates that honor. It is Allah subhanahu Taala that gives it and
takes it away, as we know, Surat Al Imran, Allah subhanahu says,
Allahu Malik al Mulk say, the King of kings. He says, You give the
kingdom to whom you want, wat Kabi, menta Shah, and you take the
kingdom from whoever you want, to zoom in to what to did. Lumentia,
you honor whom you want, you dignify whom you want, and you
humiliate whom you want. Biedik, it is in Allah's hands, subhanah
wa taala, in his hands is all forms of good. In nahual He is
Able to do all things, my dear brothers and sisters, we must be
aware that the munafiqun, they only see the external factors, and
we must be aware not to chase those external factors in order to
gain that honor. Sometimes we do it through money. We see, if we
compete in money, then that will give us that honor that we seek,
which will then result in that false happiness that we perceive,
and so we will chase money in order to be of a certain class.
And if that's the case, then know that you are in a losing battle
because one of the companions of Rasulullah saslam. His name is
hakib ibn hisam, he learned a very important lesson. What he learned
from Rasulullah saslam One time, he purchased a beautiful garment
that was previously owned by the king of Yemen, and he gifted it to
Rasulullah sallallahu sallam. Now, just to put in context, who Hakim
Ibn hazam is. Hakim Ibn hazam is a relative of Khadija Raj, and he
had not been Muslim at the beginning. He is the one who
bought Zayd, the son of Muhammad Salla sallam, and he gifted him to
Khadija, who then gifted him to Muhammad. Saw so he bought Zayd
the slave at the time, and then the Prophet saw them, adopted him
as a son. And so what happened was, when he bought this cloak to
the prophet, the prophet gifted it to Zaid son, Usama, and he let
Usama wear it. And so he could not as he's not a Muslim. Now he does
not understand. He says, I bought this cloak for one of the noble
men of Quraysh Rasulullah, right? He's a messenger, and could be
king if he wanted to. And so I'm giving it to him because I know
his value. So how could they, the son of the slave that I purchased,
wear the same cloak? He could not perceive it. And so when Osama saw
the comments of Hakim, when he said this, and he referred to this
and better than him, not because of arrogance, not because of any
kind of pride, unjustly, it is because I am a believer. He would
not had been Muslim at the time. And he says, I am better than him
because.
I am Muslim, and the Prophet always emphasized that the
believer is expensive and valuable. In the eyes of Allah
subhanahu wa is expensive and valuable even if he had nothing in
this world except his Iman that is enough for him to feel superior,
to feel like he has something to give to those who who don't have
it, even if they be in a position of high status, even if they be of
a different socioeconomic status. And this was what Hakim then, when
he became Muslim at the end, toward the end of Rasulullah
sallam's life, when the Prophet was giving the bounties of some of
the war booties. And in the campaign, he came to Hakim, and
Hakim, he gave him 100 camels. And he says, Didi Ya Rasulullah, give
me more. I want more. And he gave him more. He gave him more. And he
says, he kept saying, Sidney o rasulallah, then the Prophet
Sallam gave him the beautiful advice. And says, Yeah, Hakim. Oh.
Hakim, pause for a minute, you know? And this is the translation.
He says in the dunya khadun Hulu, that the dunya may seem beautiful
and luscious in green, he says, But whoever takes it with
generosity of soul, burika, Lahu, mafi, that if you take it not for
it to be a source of izzah for you, if you take it with
generosity of soul, then Allah will put Baraka in it. And if you
take it to be a source of izzah for you, so that you can show off,
so that you can put your foot down in the society as one who has
money, and so you look down upon people with it, lemu, bariclaufi,
that it will not have barakah in it, and he will be caledi, yakul
Wala ishba, like the one who eats and he's not full. And then he
says, and he
says that the giving hand is better than the receiving hand. So
always know that whatever is that you may want to have, seek it from
Al Aziz. Seek it from the one who possesses Isla in the proper way,
not in the way that will gain you arrogance and pride and and as a
result lead to your destruction. But take it with the sense of
wanting to give more. You know you're a person of power. Know
that Allah subhanahu wa has entrusted you with something
great. One of the stories in sutal Kaf is zulkar name. Why is he such
a great man? Because he was given power by Allah, but he didn't use
that power to abuse it. All of us in our position of power, whether
we like it or not, some of us are in our own families, the leader of
our families. Some of us have companies, some of us have
messages, some of us have countries. Whatever the capacity
in which you are given leadership in there is a great incentive for
you to be just with what you have. And in fact, the prophets Allah
Salim told us that one of the people who will receive shade on
the day where there's no shade except Allah shade, the seven
categories of people that will receive that shade. One of them is
a Imam on Adil, a right, righteous, just a leader, a leader
who doesn't abuse his power. Because this is a fitna towards
the end of times, and we go to talk about that. Inshallah,
binilla, after the short break, akuli, kalihada, West of Phila,
Ali wala ko FAU, Our
Alhamdulillah, Alhamdulillah and hadan, Allah, Alhamdulillah.
Kihiri, be
to Allah, who has guided
us to this way of life. And had it not been for Allah's guidance, we
would not have been guided. And praise be to Allah subhanahu wa
has not taken in his kingdom a partner or a son. And praise be to
Allah subhanahu wa sent upon His Messenger, his slave, Muhammad,
sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, the book in which there is no
crookedness. In it may the peace and Salutations be upon the
Prophet Muhammad, his family and his companions altogether, my dear
brothers and sisters, the reality is towards the end of time in
which we are living. Now. You know, these are the last days. As
the Prophet sallam said to us at his time, that the day of judgment
was close. We see the divide in society. We see how everything is
broken up. And we see, even from the time of Quraysh, how they took
idols for a reason to mind doing illahi, Adi, haleakum Isa Allah,
what does he say? He says they've taken these idols, put them in
their places, put themselves in charge, so that they can receive
their izzah. They can be honored. They can have that dignity.
So they create these systems in place for us to follow as puppets,
right, putting people in certain positions, whether it be because
of degrees or money or what have you. You know, these are man
created infrastructures so that they can put down the person, the
average person. And Allah warns us of this. And he says that those
who take Latina awliya, I mean doulminin, those who take the
disbelievers as guardians, as loyal allies
against the believers, meaning that you have your believing blur
there, but you're willing to sacrifice anything that is
beneficial for him or for the Ummah, for your own advancement in
life, for your own personal achievement. He says, is this the
case? Then No, Allah. Then emphasize Allah, izzah to Jami
Hala to Allah truly belongs. There is a that you will never be able
to get that izzah. You will never be able to get that full permanent
izzah. You will one day be humiliated if you seek this path
of always sacrificing your brother, sacrificing the Ummah for
your own advancement. And this is what we must be aware of as as
Allah subhana, Allah has warned us, Al hakumut, takalu makaur, you
compete over amassing wealth in order to advance yourselves in the
in this man made society, right? And then what happens? You'll
never be satisfied. You'll never end until you visit the graves,
until you yourselves are buried under and one day, a man may go to
the ATM, take money out, and he may die right before he spends
that money. And that money will automatically be inheritance. So
everything that he works for, everything that he chased for, if
it's not for Allah subhanahu wa, will be a source of regret and not
a source of benefit. And the only things that will remain al baqiya
Tu Ali had those deeds that you did for Allah subhanahu, Allah,
the ones you sent forth you, you took it from one account and put
it in the other account, the account of the that is what's
going to be waiting for us at the end of the day. And in order for
us to do that, we must seek Allah subhanahu wa in everything that we
do, even when we advance ourselves. I'm not saying don't
advance ourselves. We need to as Ummah, whether it be in the in the
Scholastic field or the economic field, we need to advance as much
as possible. However, let it be for the generosity of the soul
that the Prophet was talking about. Let it be so that we can
give back, so that we can benefit ourselves, our families, our
communities. Let it be attached to Allah subhanahu wa and karama. And
this is another point that I want to close with. Sometimes you may
feel inferior because you don't have those things that people are
are having or or that are chasing. And you may be in a position that
you are you know, not a person of authority, not a person of money,
not but know that Allah Subhanallah has honored you. Allah
Subhanallah has already honored you. He says he's already placed
on you value, and that even if the whole nation was to say to you and
to threaten you with with fear and poverty and death, as they did
with the Companions when they gathered in one of their campaign
they said that in the that the people have gathered to eliminate
you. So fear them. What did Allah? What did they respond with? And
this is only can come from when a person has attached his honor, his
value, his self worth, to Allah. They says has been Allah key. This
is a magic statement we should all know has been Allah. Allah is
sufficient for me, and he's the best of Trustees for what happened
to them. Kala, abubi, namati, min Allah. They turned from a position
of inferiority to a position of NAMA. They felt themselves
blessed. They felt grateful. They said, No, this is what Allah,
Subhanahu and His Messenger have warned us with. This is nothing
new, and this is the kind of attitude that not only the young
people should have, but the old people should have. As as Muslims,
we have something to offer, and people need to listen to us,
because what we have is something that will guide them from the
misery and the, you know, the tightness of this dunya into its
expanse. We have what it takes for people to be happy. We need to
know that, and we need to share that inshaAllah, that could, that
could only come from a mindset attached to Allah subhanahu wa We
ask Allah Subhanallah to give us the proper izzah and to bless us
in this world and the hereafter and to protect us and our families
from the fire. We ask Allah subhana to have healing on our
sick and to have mercy on those who have passed a
