We all love the Dunya and are chasing after it. But how has Allah and His Messenger described the Dunya to us? What is the reality of this worldly life that we are all so attached to?

It brings me great joy to be here among you today
in this conference in which I hope everyone has been vetted
from what they have been learning.
And the topic that we have before us right now is a topic that actually should have been
discussed in the very beginning, in the very, very beginning of this conference, and that is the reality of the dunya.
And so we have learned things
about the borough's us about the grave about
Jenna, and the hellfire.
But before all of that,
before all of that
we have to talk about the reality of the dunya
because it is through the dunya that we make it that we make it to the ashram
and I'm going to start with
a story from the
life of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam
that basically describes to us the reality of an HIA to dunya
and so, ns seven Malik Ravi Allahu and
he narrates he says the whole to Allah Nabi sallallahu alayhi wa sallam
well, who Allah sorry Rima Romulan visionary.
He was added to them in Adam

And I said, Malik rhodiola. And
he says that
I came to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam while he was on a seat with a bed
that had

He had a pillow under his head made of skin that was stuffed with fiber.
There was a cloth between his skin and the seat

further Allah Allah He aroma
so that
he says that Mr. Ravi Allahu and now enters
and he starts to weep. He starts to cry.
And then he said for Karla Luna bu sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.

The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam asks her Omar
Omar what is it that makes you cry?
So Omar Abdullah who and he says, Mr. Will la he mad at the kiya rasulillah

For whom ah yeah eternity he may or eaten up mina dounia
will enter Yasuda la bill McKenney Levy,
Mr. Ravi Allahu and he responds, all messenger of Allah, I am only weeping and crying, because I know that you are more noble.
You have a higher status. Then
the emperor of Persia kisara.
And the emperor of Rome, Caesar.
They both live in what they live of the luxuries of the dounia
while you own messenger of Allah,
I see how you're living.
And coming now to the point of mentioning this. The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam he said
I'm a total
amateur by Omar al takuna lahoma dunya
When an after
the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam asked to remove
the Omer.
Aren't you satisfied that they have the dunya
and the luxuries of the dunya and everything in it,
but for us, will be the hero.
And so Mr. Avila, and he said,
Yes, or messenger of Allah.
And so my dear brothers and sisters,
we all love the journey.
And the luxuries of the dunya, who doesn't like it? Who is not attached to it?
We desire its riches.
We desire its glory, its glamour,
and what satisfies our desires of the dunya.
But yet,
the reality of the dunya
is something different.
The reality of the dunya is something different and that's why
throughout the Qur'an
and throughout the life of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, we find this theme
of Allah and His Messenger, warning us to not indulge in the junior and describing us describing to us the reality of what the dunya is.
And so let us look at a few descriptions
of the reality of the dunya as a loss of Hannah, who Allah has outlined it for us in the Quran, and from a few of the statements of the Prophet sallallahu It was
the first characteristic that we find
in the Quran in more than one place. A loss of Hannah Hua tada describes a dunia as what
as mere play and amusement entertainment
and amusement, nothing more. And so Allah subhanho wa Taala says one there, one, heavy Hill higher to dunya Illa
Illa, Allah, Allah,
Allah Allah, Allah Allah.
Allah subhanahu wa tada says, that this worldly life this dunya is nothing more than play and amusement, entertainment and amusement. But the real life is a life of
this is one description. The second description is that the dunya has been made attractive
and it has been made beautiful to us.
The reality of the dunya is different, but it has been made attractive to us. It's been made beautiful in our eyes. And so Allah subhanahu wa tada says, Z naseeha Boucher Mina Nisa, he will benina will come
with the heavy water while halal musawah Mati well, and Jaime was
here it was a parent who which Allah describes certain things in the dunya.
And tells us that these things have been made attractive to most men, to most people. And so Allah says, beautified for people, is the love the attachment, for what, for what they desire, their Shahada of what
of women have heaped up sums of gold, and silver, of fine branded horses, of fertile land. All of these things are here in this dunya and they have been made attractive in our eyes. And then what is the lesson here and who would dare to say and then Allah says, that he come up with commit to
that is the enjoyment of the worldly life. And then a lot concludes, will Allahu ainda, who, personally
but the best return is with Allah meaning that with Allah is what is far better. And that's why in the eye right after that Allah asks, cool
Shall I not inform you of what is far better than that? of the dunya and then Allah explains, for those who fear Allah there is this and this and this engine.
The third characteristic that we find of the dunya in the Quran is
that it is something deceptive
It is deceptive in nature.
And so lots of China who says we're Melaka to dunya.

that the life of this world is nothing but deceiving enjoyment.
It's not enjoyment, but it is a deceiving kind of enjoyment.
And so we find this in the marketing industry, where we have billions of billions of dollars spent
on ads that are made attractive to us, that make certain products attractive to us.
They are deceptive in nature,
to deceive us to do what
to make us to buy that product.
And this is the reality of the dunya as Allah mentions here.
Also among the characteristics of the dunya is that it is temporary. In short, it is what it is temporary, and short. And so Allah subhanho wa Taala mentioned in sort of two tober.
And sort of to tell what was revealed
concerning the munafo coup,
and it was revealed
when the command came to fight in the Battle of two book.
And so Allah subhanho wa Taala addressing the believers,
who some of them
were not willing to go out and fight in jihad.
Rather, they were attached to what they're doing. Yeah.
So a lot of dresses them yeah, are you Latina? Imani mela comida para la,
la la,
la la. Oh, you believe what is the matter with you? That when it is said to you
to march 4, in the path of Allah in jihad, that you remain attached to the ground.
And then Allah describes the dunya.
Allah subhana wa tada describes it by seeing an OB to build hierarchy. Dunya minister will ask the question to them.
Are you satisfied with the worldly life
over the athlete? So now Mattel hayati? dounia, Phil irati, illa khaleel.
Are you attached to this worldly life
over the assets, even though this worldly life in comparison to the asset is nothing but small? Nothing but small.
Look at how throughout the Quran, Allah subhanho wa Taala talks about
about the people on the Day of Judgment.
And how some of them they will say
when they're asked how long did you spend in the dunya? What will they say?
They will say Yeoman.
It was only a day or a part of a day.
They will remember their time in this dunya
and they will remember it as being something very, very short. And so this is one of the descriptions of the dunya that Allah mentions in the Quran, and also the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam mentioned in Eben Masaru Dora the Allahu anhu says that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, he slept on a straw man.
And he got up with marks that were left on his body.
So even Mr. Rude Ravi Allahu Han, he said Yasuda wa
would you like that we make for you a soft bed.
A nice, comfortable, warm, soft bed. So what did the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam say? He said Ma Li
ma NFA dunya illa kuraki be curcumin is still vola Shujaat in some raw hatanaka
the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said
what do I have to do with the dunya?
What do I have to do with the dunya?
And then he explained the nature of the dunya. He said that the dunya
or he said I compared to the dunya is like one who travels he rides on his horse.
And then he comes across a tree
and he ties his camera or his horse and he sits down to rest. He takes a nap and then
and then he gets up
and he leaves out please.
This short time of just reading
thing under that shame
is this dunya for us?
It is short. It is temporary. And you find this throughout the Quran and the Sunnah. Finally, the fifth description of the dunya that we have is that it is worthless.
It is insignificant and worthless and you have many Hadeeth in this regard. One of these hobbies the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam was once passing through the market,
and his companions were on both of these sites. So they came across a dead skinny goat,
a skinny, small goat that was dead.
And so, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam went to it and grabbed its ear and said, Who of you would like this for one day?
Who wants to buy this small, skinny, dead goat for one year?
So the companions they replied, We don't want it even for nothing.
Even if you were to give it to us for free, we wouldn't take it.
And so the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said,
he said,
One law he Let's do
one more Allah him and
he said, that the dunya is more worthless in the sight of Allah Subhana who would rather than this dead, skinny goat is in your eyes.
And so, the dunya is something worthless
is not worth
chasing after, like the majority of people are doing.
And so these are only a few descriptions
of the juniata Alas, apparently who without has mentioned in various places in the Quran, and the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam mentioned now what I want to turn our attention to.
or
certain parables in the Quran
certain
that Allah subhanho wa Taala has given to us in the Quran.
And the I'm sad or the parables of the Quran are something that
you know, many have neglected and it's something that we should actually sit and read it's tough scene and ponder over these parables that Allah gives us in the Quran.
Because parables are meant
to basically make clear something in our mind is
as clear as the sun.
And so when you give a parable, you're giving the parable in order to clarify something that may seem confusing.
And so in the Quran, Allah gives us many, many parables. There are approximately 45 to 50 different parables in the Quran. And you notice that all of these parables focus on major things. They focus on things related to Toshi shit,
man versus Khufu.
And also, Allah has given us parables concerning the reality of the dunya. And that's what I want to focus on. Now. There are three parables that Allah has mentioned in the Quran,
concerning the reality of the life of the dunya.
The first is mentioned in Surah Yunus
and the second is mentioned
in pseudo caf
and the third is mentioned where who knows
your three parables mentioned in the Quran concerning the reality of the life of the dream.
One is mentioned in Surah Yunus. The other is mentioned in sudo. conf. And the third is mentioned in which surah
Who knows?
Yes, Surah
Surah Al.
And so let us look at each of these parables
because Allah subhanahu wa tada is addressing us. And he's addressing us by giving us this parable to make us to open up our eyes in reality and realize that this is a reality of the dunya that we are so obsessed with. Allah subhanho wa Taala says in the first parable is Surah Yunus

to Allah Subhana, which Allah gives us the parable
of the world.
Allah says,
the parable of an HIA to
have the worldly life
is nothing but like rain,
which we send down from the sky.
And then this rain,
it mixes with the planets of the earth, the plants of the earth absorb this rain,
those from which we drink and those from which livestock they eat the plants until
when the earth has taken on its adornment
has become lush and green and beautiful.
And its people
meaning the people, they have these gardens, and these farms,
they think now
that they have power, you have control over their crops. At that time, comes the command of a loss, apparently who would data by night or by date, and then
we make it clean.
We make it like it never existed. We destroy it.
And so here, Allah subhanho wa Taala describes to us, they don't
notice the ayah before this in sort of Kunis
a loss of Hannah who without uh, talks about
the moose raccoon,
and how when they go out to sea,
they
turn to Allah alone, asking a lot for help, because now they're afraid that they're going to drown. And so they forget about their idols that they used to worship. And they turn to Allah alone,
calling out to offer help.
Because in essence, in essence,
every single human being recognizes the existence of a lot, and also allows right to be worshipped alone.
And that is the fifth row that is within each and every single human being.
But that fifth row becomes clouded.
And so people
they deny a was existence or they commit ship. But when they're in danger, who do they turn to? They turn to Allah. Allah subhanahu wa tada then tells us, Bella and Joe hamidah homea, who are way behind and then when Allah saves them, the answers they do and he sees them, then
they go back to land, committing injustice, meaning they go back to their ship and worshipping their idols. And then what does Allah say? Yeah, you hiddenness in both of you, kumana and Fujiko, all mankind, your transgression, this injustice
is only coming to haunt you. It is
not in your best interest.
And then what does the law say about the dunya meta?
It's only a few days. It's only
a temporary enjoyment. Don't miss elaina Moto G Okun.
Then you will return to us in the euro and we will tell you what used to do. Then after that, after this verse, Allah gives us this parable of the duty
and so here in this parable, Allah subhanahu wa tada describes the dounia the reality of the dounia to Earth
that is lush and green. And so just like rain is sent down from the sky.
To a place that didn't have any plants, the desert
or fertile ground that was not green, it was brown and then also
Over time with the rain, it becomes green. It grows roses and flowers and plants. And it becomes beautiful.
After that,
after that what happens? Allah subhanho wa Taala sent his command
and destroys it was some kind of without it destroys it. And so here ally is telling us that the dunya is no different. The dunya is no different. We are deceived by its glitter, and its glamour. And its beauty, thinking that this is the ultimate enjoyment. As they say, you have one life to live, so live it. And so here it was with Hannah, who is basically waking us up to reality, waking us up to reality, and telling us that this worldly life,
it's temporary.
And it's only a few days. And it will soon very quickly come to an end, suddenly, at a time when we're least expecting it
at a time when we never expected
that we would die. And so who can guarantee
that he will live until the age of 60 or 70 or 80. No one can guarantee himself.
And so what we learn from this parable that Allah has given us here is that the nature of the dunya is something that disappears very, very quickly.
That's the nature of it, and its pleasures are temporary. And so, this should serve as a reminder for any sane person
not to become attached to it. Also what we learn is that the dunya is something that either we will leave it or or it will leave us
either we will be made to leave it or it will leave us and so either can happen at any any time. There are some people who have everything of the dunya. They're millionaires, and yet, we have seen millionaire millionaires who have gone bankrupt
or the dunya will leave you
or you will have to be you will be made to leave the dunya and either of these two can come at any time.
Also, what we learn from this parable is
that one should prepare for his asset off from today. And not leave it for a time. And for a day. That may never come.
As we said, death can come at any time. And that's why in the very next verse, Allah subhanahu wa tada What does he tell us? What La Jolla do Illa daddy salami. Well, yeah de Manya sha Allah soroptimists Hakim Allah subhanho wa Taala invites you
to what Daraa Salaam
the place of safety of peace
and that is in the Acura because this dunya is filled with worry and with grief
and with sadness and there are ups and downs but Allah is calling us to what
you know that is Salaam. We will illustrate optimistically we move on after that to the next paragraph. And this isn't your true calf.

for those of us who are say spiritual, every fighting we're familiar with this verse.
But how many of us have pondered over this parable that Allah has given to us?
here Allah subhanahu wa tada says, and present to them the parable of the life of the dunya
It is like rain which we send down from the sky. Similar to the previous parable and the vegetation in the earth. It mingles it mixes with this rain.
And then after that, what happens?
It becomes dry, it becomes dry remnants that becomes scattered by the wings. And a lot is capable and all powerful over everything.
And so here in this parable, Allah compares the length of the dunya to the Earth's vegetation, becoming green and lush and then suddenly disappearing and becoming dried up.
And so similar to the previous parable, just like when rain is set down from the sky, causing it,
to make the seeds in the ground to come out and causing a very beautiful scenery of green, lush garden
of flowers and roses, and plants and vegetables and fruits.
And it produces all of this, it remains attractive for a period of time,
for only a period of time, not forever. And this is something that we see, year in year out, the spring comes and the plants come up.
And we see beauty in the summertime. But then what happens in the fall, in the autumn, the leaves start to come down before that they start to change color until they become until they become brown. And until they become as Allah says here, dry remnants, that becomes scattered on the ground, becoming blown about by the wind. And so here a lot is telling us that likewise is the dunya.
Likewise, this dunya, which we have become deceived by its glitter, and it's great, it's glamour, thinking that this is the ultimate enjoyment. Today, we are young, we are strong, we are full of youth, today we have energy, we have beauty, we have a lot of money in our hands, but in a few years, only a matter of a few years, we're gonna grow, we
were gonna grow old,
we're no longer gonna have that same beauty, we're gonna grow gray hair,
we're gonna get wrinkles on our faces. That money, it won't be with us any longer. And it's only a matter of time.
And so, a lots of Hannah who without it tells us that in the end, the end comes, the end comes when Allah subhana wa tada takes away our souls. And then we become what
we become bones scattered, where beneath the ground, just like these planets were above the ground, full of life, they ended up becoming remnants, brown leaves scattered on the ground. And so once again, we have many lessons that we can learn from this parable. Among these lessons is once again, the nature of the dunya, that it disappears quickly. It disappears very, very quickly. And that its pleasures are only temporary.
Its pleasures are temporary,
whatever we want to enjoy of the dunya.
For those of us who are enjoying it, you know better than me that that pleasure that you saw, it only lasted for a few moments.
And then that's it.
It was it was over.
It was over. And that's how the dunya is. And so, this this should serve as a reminder for any sane individual to not become deceived by the dunya because what is one of the characteristics of the dunya that we mentioned earlier is that it is deceptive. It lammeter
it is a deceptive kind of enjoyment.
Also, what we learned from this parable is that we should prepare for the accurate from today.
Because death can come at any time. And so you should not delay for a day that may never come. There are people who delay who say that. I'm not ready yet.
I'm not ready to adhere to the deen.
I want to enjoy my life as it is. And then when I become old,
I'll have all the free time to devote myself to Allah Subhana who had at that time I can repent to Allah subhanahu wa Tada. But what guarantee do you have that you'll live until that day? And so don't be like one of two people.
Don't be like one of two people. One, a man who never entered the masjid
in his entire life, except on the day of his janazah
he was forced to enter it
And don't be all sisters. Like that woman who never covered herself, except on the day of her janazah when she was wrapped up in those shrouds, not to be seen by anyone.
And so this should serve as a reminder
that death can come at any time. For those of us who are enjoying our lives, enjoying that temporary dunya remember that at any moment, Allah subhanho wa Taala can send the Angel of Death to take away our soldiers. Finally, notice here
a loss of Hannah who attalla ends the verse by saying, what kind of law who and I couldn't show you
and what is all powerful over everything?
This indicates that just as a was a parent who was added is fully power to create from nothing. Allah created us from what from nothing.
The moose raccoon, they used to debate in the time of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, what would they debate? They used to debate with him concerning the resurrection.
The How can we be brought back to life after we become dust and booms in the ground. And so Allah subhanho wa Taala is indicating here, when he says what kind of love and actually show you
and Allah is all powerful over everything. Allah is reminding us that just as he's able, fully powerful to create us in the first place from nothing, he's even more powerful to bring us back to light. In fact, that is easier. And for Allah subhanho wa Taala nothing is difficult. We move on after that to the final and the last parable concerning the lease of the dunya

Allah subhanho wa Taala gives us yet another parable of the reality of the life of the dunya.
here Allah subhanho wa Taala says,
No,
it's a command from Allah.
Oh people realize know
that the life of the dunya
is but play and amusement. As we mentioned earlier, one of the characteristics of the dunya is that it is nothing but entertainment and amusement.
And then Allah says was he in a twin waterfowl home Dana comb, and it is also adornment, beauty
and it is also boosting with one another.
And it is also what to cast on film while he was alive. It is also competing with one another rivalry in increase of wealth and children.
And then what is the loss of parents who are trying to tell us a law gives us the parable.
This is an hire to dunya what is its example? A law says Can I tell you hate
it is like
a rain
or rain that Allah sends down from the sky.
Our job as a co founder and the co founder.
They basically are pleased and amazed by
this rain that Allah sends from the sky or rather the plantation when they see the plantation that results from the rain. They're amazed by it.
So Maya Haeju Fatah, Hamas forgot then what happens then it dries up
and you see it turning yellow.
And then Allah subhanho wa Taala says to me, a coupon
Then in the end, it becomes scattered debris.
It becomes scattered debris just like we mentioned in the previous parable. And then Allah concludes the verse by saying,
by once again reminding us the reality of the dunya. Allah subhanahu wa tada says,
Well fill out irati I'd have been shredded, or mouthfeel to mean a law What is
there in the era, there are only two things, either punishment
and extreme punishment, severe punishment, or forgiveness from Allah and His pleasure. Well, manhyia to dounia illa Mattel as we mentioned earlier, that the dunya is nothing but deceptive enjoyment. It is not real enjoyment, but rather a deceptive kind of enjoyment. And so here Allah subhana wa tada compares the life of the dunya, once again, to the Earth's vegetation, and the rain coming down on and then it becoming dry, scattered debris. And so just like rain, when it is sent down from the sky,
it causes the earth to come out, lush and green and full of life. And the farmers especially, they're admired by, you know what, they have a vegetation,
they enjoy that vegetation, and that lushness for a period of time. But it only remains attractive, temporary, and then it eventually turns yellow, then it turns brown, and then it becomes scattered on the ground. And so Allah is telling us likewise is the dunya, likewise, is the dunya, which we are deceived by its its glitter. And its beauty, thinking that is the ultimate enjoyment, forgetting
that the reality is that it is temporary in nature.
And so that's why I was starts the verse
by mentioning certain things in the dunya that we are enjoying so much. And then Allah gives us this parable. And then Allah ends by reminding us of where we are headed to. And that is, that is the IRA.
And so these are three parables that Allah subhanho wa Taala mentions in the Quran, we notice that all three are similar to one another.
And that is because
and this is a beautiful aspect of the Quran. There are lots of Hannah who would address the people who the Quran was revealed to
in something that they are familiar with.
And these verses they were all revealed where
were they revealed in NACA, or they revealed in Medina?
Where were they revealed these three parables?
And these three students, where were they revealed?
He revealed in Medina
because the OnStar were known for what?
For being people's agriculture.
And so Allah sent them parables, to something that they are familiar with. And you notice all three parables
are similar to one another. It's all lots of kind of who attalla gives us these parables to something that even we today 1400 years later, or are familiar with. And we can relate to very, very easily by what we see around us of green lush gardens that are full of light for a period of time and beautiful, but then what happens to them in the end.
And so I want to conclude here,
I want to conclude by mentioning something very, very important here at the very end that we spoke about the reality of a hiatal hernia the life of this world.
But what's so bad about the dounia? I'm sure a lot of people are asking, What is so bad about the dunya? Why care I enjoy myself? or Why did Allah Subhana Allah to Allah in all of these is and the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam in these various Hadith? Why did they warn us so much? From the dunya?
Is it really so bad?
And so to answer that question, we say
that the reason why it is so dangerous
is because it distracts us from
the very purpose of why Allah created us.
And so Allah Subhana which Allah created us,
a wisdom for a purpose, and that purpose was for his worship. Well now hello to Jean Noel into Illa. Yeah Buddha I have not treating mankind nor the gym except for my worship.
Allah subhanho wa Taala created us, to serve Him, to worship Him. Everything that Allah has given to us, our brains, our eyes, our ears, all the various blessings that Allah has given to us, the least that we can do is to say things and this is the meaning of worship. The meaning the very core of a better is that we are thanking Allah subhanho wa Taala for everything that he has given to us. This is why Allah subhanahu wa taala has created us
but the dunya
it wants us to become distracted from this purpose. And that's why the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam described
the dunya
and everything in the dunya as being what middle rune woman rune mafia,
that the dunya its entirety is cursed, and everything in it is cursed. But then he made an exception,
he said, except the remembrance of Allah subhanho wa Taala and that which pleases Allah, and those who teach the scholars and the seekers of knowledge, this is the only exception. Besides this, everything in the dunya is cursed and that's why whatever we have of the dunya we have to ask Allah subhanahu wa tada What? That what pleases Baraka in it? Why? Because it's curse. unless Allah puts Baraka in it. It's cursed as a prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam mentioned and so why is it curse? Because it distracts us from the very reason why Allah subhanahu wa tada created us. And that's why Allah subhana wa tada also mentioned

am Allah, that, basically this dunya the wealth, and the children are nothing but adornment of the worldly life.
