Kamil Ahmad – Prophetic Parables #28 – The Heart’s Instability
AI: Summary ©
The heart is the command center of the body and constantly changes and fluctuates, making it difficult for humans to predict its stability. Other tests and Improvements can be made by the heart, including the use of different types of exercise and words. The heart is also easily influenced by evil thoughts and desires, and is easily affected by trials and tests. The speaker emphasizes the importance of staying true to oneself and not letting things happen to one's own happiness, as well as protecting oneself and avoiding miscalculance.

We continue in our series on the prophetic parables
covering the various parables mentioned by our beloved prophet muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.
And so tonight we have two more parables. These two parables that we have
tonight are from sunan ibn magic.
And so the first of these two parables.
The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam gives us an example of the heart.
And so this hadith narrated by Abu Musab Zhi Li, Ravi Allahu anhu.
Kala Kala Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam
method will call the method to Russia
to kalibo her area will be flat in
the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said
that the example of the heart
is that of a feather that is blown about by the winds in an open desert.
And so firstly, this haddie
has been greeted by many of the scholars of Hadith as being authentic,
including a Shia Hillel, Bernie
Rahim Allah Allahu taala.
Secondly,
what this Hadeeth talks about is
the most important part of us, and that is our heart.
And so our heart is the most important part of our body both physically and spiritually.
And so in the Hadith
narrated by Bukhari and Muslim, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said,
in a futile gesture, the Buddha,
that there is
a piece of flesh in the body and Oregon,
either swallow, swallow halogens or do cola. If it was upright, then the rest of the body will be upright. What if I said that first Adele just had to cola and if it is corrupt, then the entire body would be corrupt, Allah healed corrupt, indeed it is the heart.
And so the heart is
basically our command center.
Whatever we do, whatever actions we take, whatever we may say,
is based on the command that comes from our heart.
And so as Abraham describes the heart, he says, it is like the Army General.
And the body organs are like the soldiers.
They only listen and obey what He commands them with.
And he uses them as he wishes, and they are under his control.
And so what the prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam tried to explain through this hadith
is basically the profound nature of this heart.
When
it is exposed to
different kinds of fit in
different kinds of trials and tests in this life.
Whether it be trials with respect to what Allah has commanded and forbidden,
or whether it be trials with regards to what Allah has decreed.
And so Allah has commanded us with certain things, he has forbidden us from certain things.
For many of us, it's difficult and that is a test. It's a fitness
For us, will we obey?
Or will we disobey.
Also with respect to what Allah has decreed
a lot decrees many different kinds of calamities for us many unfortunate events in our life, how will we cope with them.
And so when the heart is, you know, presented with these tests in life,
the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam,
he explained in this Hadith, how
the heart is always changing, and how it is never stable.
And so, this is why the heart in the Arabic language is called alcohol.
And so, it comes from the word To conclude,
which basically means, to twist and turn to turn over.
When you say,
you know, you flipped over the page, or you turned over the page, say doclet bit of software or to a lab to a software, I turned over the page.
And so,
that is the meaning of the heart. And that is its nature.
Its nature is that it is never
stable, it is never steady always in one state. It is always fluctuating. It is always turning. It's never on one state always.
And this is not only with respect to, you know, our Deen
but also with respect to
you know, our daily lives.
And so there are times when we are happy. There are times when we are sad.
And that is because the heart never remains in one state all the time.
It's all here the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam in this hadith he compares the heart and its unstable nature.
To the feather,
a feather that is blown quickly.
By the winds because of its lightweight,
even the slightest breeze will come and blow
this feather. And notice here, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam use the plural. He said earlier,
the winds, he didn't say that the wind, the singular, he did not say that a wind comes and blows it.
But rather he said the winds because
you only have things tossing and turning
by several different winds that come from different directions. If the wind just came from one direction, it would blow that thing away in that one direction.
But he
mentioned how the feather is turned several times it keeps on turning.
So listen, because of the winds that come
several winds from different directions. And he mentioned here in the open desert.
He didn't just say anywhere, he said, a feather that is blown by the winds in an open space in an open area
in a desert,
as opposed to
a city where there are structures and buildings that come in the way of those of those wings.
And so, this is how our hearts are. We are constantly having our hearts exposed to various kinds of fitting
trials and tests in this dunya.
And we previously covered a hadith in the same series of the prophetic parables
where the Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam compared the hearts
when exposed to fit and
he mentioned how they end up in two categories, two groups.
One kind of heart that rejects
the fitting
and does not entertain them does not allow itself to be tried and tempted by those tests. Instead, the heart submits to Allah subhanho wa Taala. And so this heart
becomes white, glowing
with the light of
the other group, the other heart, it becomes dark
as it be as it gets exposed to fit him. And he entertains those various trials and tests, allowing itself to be tempted and absorbing all of those fit and not submitting to Allah subhanho wa Taala.
And so as a result of
exposure to these fittin in these trials and these temptations, and these calamities
as a result of the heart being exposed to them, and also as a result of the nature, the nature of the heart to be easily and quickly influenced and affected by those Phaeton.
As a prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam described it, like the feather, that is easily blown by the winds,
our hearts are constantly turning,
not remaining stable and consistent
upon one state, and so in this dunya
in this dunya, we have different factors
that cause us to have this change of heart.
We have our evil inclining nests,
we have our whims
and our desires.
And then we have an external factor and that is shaped on
coming and tempting us and whispering to us.
And so all these actor, all of these factors, when they come together,
when they come together like this against the servant and his heart,
it becomes difficult and it becomes difficult to,
to conduct.
And so the only way to keep our heart stable
and steadfast
upon the truth.
And upon doing righteousness and staying away from evil is by constantly battling and striving against these three things.
The evil inclining knifes
the whims, the Hauer
and the desires and shape on
and that is a very test that Allah subhana wa tada has placed us in this dunya to go through
to see who will strive and who will not strive to see who will work hard and who will surrender and just give in.
And so Allah subhanahu, WA tada has given us, weapons that we can use to, to, to combat these three things.
And he has taught us how to strive and to struggle, and, you know, to to fight this battle.
You know, he hasn't just left us without giving us the tools and the weapons to fight this battle.
And so whoever uses them, then he'll be successful. But whoever does not, instead, he gives him his hands to the enemy, surrendering, saying, come and take me, then he should not blame anyone but himself when he sees the evil outcome of that in the in the accurate all obviously in this dunya before that, as well.
And so among the lessons that we learned from this Heidi,
and this beautiful parable that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam gave us concerning the heart.
First of all,
the nature of the heart is that it is easily influenced by Phaeton.
It is easily influenced by
like the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam gave us in this example,
how a slight wind or how the winds, they easily cause this feather to twist and turn.
And it's like other scholars compare it the heart to a white garment
that is easily affected by even the slightest of stain.
You'll notice it whereas a dark garment
You know, you won't notice it. Even if there were many stains
or like a clean mirror
that is easily affected by even the slightest marks
that end up on that mirror.
And so the nature of our heart is that it is easily influenced and affected by the fitting that we are exposed to, as long as, as long as the heart
as long as it doesn't have a defense,
as long as it doesn't have a defense, to defend itself,
against being affected so easily by these factors. That's why people are different in terms of how they are affected by the various trials and tests in this life, not everyone is the same.
Some people are not affected as quickly. But the majority of people are affected so quickly. And that's why for the majority of the people, they have this kind of heart that is always changing
constantly.
And so,
as the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said in another Hadith, there will come a time, when there will be so many fitten. So many trials, so many tests,
that a person will wake up in the morning, as a believer, and by nighttime, he'll be a caffeine.
And he'll go to sleep at night, as a believer, by the morning, he is a Catholic,
to show how,
how severe these tests and trials will become towards the end of time. And there is no doubt that the time and age in which we're living in today is if it is not that time that the Prophet also spoke about, then it is very close, we are very close to that time.
And that is if we are not already in that time.
And so, today, you see how easily people are affected by fitting around them,
whether it be fit and related to shoe bohat doubts concerning one's Dean, or whether it be fit and related to shower,
lustful desires.
And so, both of these two kinds of fit and
you see how, you know, people are so easily affected by them. The second point that we learned from this hadith
and this is something very, very important. And that is that none of us should think that we are safe from going astray.
So the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, he dismissed this thought
of some people how
they think that they will remain upon the straight path leading to gender.
And nothing will come in their way.
And it's impossible for them to deviate.
Whether it be whether it be, you know, a person being practicing and then no longer practicing, or whether it be a person being upon the net and then becoming the person or Buddha, or whether it be a person being a Muslim,
and then becoming a carrier. None of us can guarantee ourselves that we remain upon that straight path, even even with respect to a man and gopher.
And so the evidence were that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam he said
that
one of you will perform the actions of the people of gender
until there is only an arm span between him and gender.
And then the color of Allah comes in.
And he ends up doing the actions of the people of the Hellfire, and he ends up
he ends up in hellfire.
And then he sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said, and one of you would perform the actions of the people of the Hellfire until he is only an arm span between the Hellfire until the color of Allah comes to pass. And he ends up doing the actions of the people agenda, thereby entering.
And
one of the wives of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam on selama radi Allahu Allah. She mentions
when she was asked what is the date that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam used to say the most
in your house
so she said to do harder he used to say the most was yeah well Caliban Kuru, sub bit Colby hygienic
once that once again that word called lib include
mocha lib
and crude This is referring to Allah.
O Allah, The Turner of the hearts, the one who turns the hearts The one who controls the hearts
causing a person to be guided and causing another person to go astray.
Alternate of the hearts
keep my heart firm upon your deen
keep my heart firm upon your deen and in another Hadith. In another narration of the same Hadith
the Ask the companions asked the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam why he used to say this to her so much. And so he sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said, because there is no heart
that is between two of the fingers of a man of Allah.
Except that Allah subhanahu wa taala if he wills, He guides it, and if he wills, He allows it to go straight.
And so what does it show us? If this is the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam making such a dua so much, then how about the rest of us?
And so it shows us that the only way to have a steadfast heart, the only way to make sure that your heart remains firm
and will not deviate. No matter what the circumstances is.
By Allah subhanho wa Taala keeping it for him for you.
We should never rely on our own selves never.
And that's why the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam taught us to do it say in the morning and in the evening.
Yeah, hi Yah, can you move your medical history of leisure, Nicola, while at the killing Ilana see Perfect.
Perfect for me, all of my affairs are a lot. And do not leave me to myself, even for the blink of an eye.
Oh Allah Don't leave me to myself, even for a blink of an eye.
Meaning that we cannot survive in this dunya
thinking that we could do all on our own.
Whoever thinks that he admires himself and thinks too much of himself and he is a person who is proud.
But rather, we should humble ourselves and realize that nothing is in our hands.
Everything is in the hands of a loss of Hannah who were to either, including our guidance.
And also among the lessons that we learned from this hadith is that all hearts are exposed to fit in.
But the difference is in how we deal with those fitter.
And so one group will resist
and put on a fight and strive hard until they attain the promise of Allah when Allah said, When lady Naja had rufina then the unknown Subaru Lana, what in Allah, Allah have mercy me, those who strive hard upon for our sake, for the sake of Allah, they strive hard upon the path of Allah, then we will guide them to the wings, meaning Allah will guide will open up the ways for them, the ways of guidance,
the ways of good, everything will be good for them in this life and in the next as long as they strive hard.
But that is only the first group as for the second group,
and they are those who cave in.
They are those who don't put up a fight against their enough's against their whims and their desires and against a bar.
Instead, they surrender.
And so Allah subhanho wa Taala says regarding them, for them as a as a law Hulu
when they deviated
when they deviated a lot, attributed the deviation the misguidance to themselves. When they deviated then a lot caused their hearts to deviate.
Meaning they chose the path of deviation of misguidance
and so Allah subhana wa tada flipped their hearts from a man to Kovac
from sunup to beta,
from righteousness, and a life of being a practicing Muslim to a life of abandoning adherence to Islam.
And so the first group,
the group that strives hard, they end up with a man, like
a solid tree.
That no matter how fierce The storm is outside, this tree will not shake, it will not bend.
On the other hand, the second group that surrenders and doesn't put on a fight,
they end up within a man like a feather, that even the slightest breeze that comes you don't have to have a storm. But even the slightest breeze that comes, it's gonna shake it,
it's gonna cause it to turn over as a prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam mentioned
in this hadith.
And finally, among the lessons that we learned from this hadith
is
that we should not expose ourselves
unnecessarily
to fit them,
whether they be the fitting of shoe bohat doubts, or whether they be the fitting, of Shahada,
our lusts and our desires.
It's one thing that those fit and come to you.
And so
you have to put up your guard.
And you have to protect yourself.
And so with regards to shewhart, you hear certain things you never want to hear those things about Islam. But they came to you
doubting molars existence, for example, doubting Islam as being the truth.
And so, your guard to that is your email, you didn't go to it, but it came to you.
Likewise, with respect to shallot,
you go outside, and you know, there are
women dressed inappropriately,
you're not going to them, but you are being exposed to them. And so your guard is your email. And so you're going to lower your gaze.
But now it's a different story.
Where you go out of your way, and expose yourself to those fittings.
So you go and take, for example, a university course on Islam, where their whole purpose is to throw darts at you.
You're unnecessarily exposing yourself to those fitten
or with their sector, shallot, you go to those places where there are * women
and so on and so forth. You are exposing yourself.
Even aka him, he says concerning the first the fitting of shoe hat. He says that his share. So the shares of IBM was even tanea
even though he says that shareholder Islam, may Allah be pleased with him said to me, so even taymiyah said to Abraham,
Abraham, he says, he said to me, when I started to ask him one question after another, he said to me, do not allow your heart to become like a sponge. That is soaking up any doubt and objection that may come to your mind, but rather make it like a solid glass through whose surface that doubts they pass, but they'd want to settle in there, they don't get become absorbed and sit there.
Thus, you end up seeing them.
These doubts with clearness and you're able to fend them off with
the solidness of the glass
as opposed to the softness of the sponge.
And then he said otherwise, if you allow your heart to soak up every doubt that passes it,
it will become a home for adults.
It will become a home for adults. We're adults are going to now live in your heart.
And then a bloke came he says
I do not think that I have ever benefited from any piece of advice on how to deal with doubts as much as I benefited from
This
so we ask Allah subhanahu wa tada to give us these kinds of hearts that are solid with amen
