And so there are several ways and steps
that we can take to strengthen our iman
in our hearts. 1st and foremost, we need
to get to know Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
We need to educate ourselves about who Allah
is through His names and His attributes.
For the more you get to know Allah
sub anhu wa ta'ala,
the more you will venerate Him in your
heart, and the more you will love Him,
and the more you will fear Him. Number
2, the remembrance of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
at all times. Ask yourself, where are you
with respect to the dhikr of Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala With both your heart and your
tongue. And so the one who has iman
living in his heart, he is the one
who remembers Allah. But the one who doesn't
remember Allah, it means that his iman in
his heart is dead. Number 3, listening to
and reciting the Quran with contemplation,
with understanding. Number 4, remind yourself of the
akhirah. Remind yourself of the temporary nature of
this dunya, and do that by visiting the
graveyard to remind yourself
that today it is them, and tomorrow it's
gonna be me. This is the only reason
why the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam is saying
that we should visit the graveyards because it'll
increase you in iman. It'll remind you of
the temporary nature of this dunya.
It'll wake you up out of your heedlessness
that you're currently living in, and remind you
that this is your end, and that it
is coming very soon. Number 5, being
in an iman,
lifting environment.
Being in the gatherings of knowledge and dhikr
and good company.
Again ask yourself, when was the last time
you took time out of your busy schedule
to attend a circle of knowledge, to attend
an Islamic lecture, a class. All of these
are means that would increase us in our
iman. Number 6,
increasing ourselves in the doing of good deed.
And so as we learnt, iman is something
that increases and decreases. How does it increase?
It increases
by good deeds. The more you obey Allah,
the more act of obedience and act of
worship that you're doing, the more your iman
is increasing. And finally, among the steps that
we can take to strengthening
iman in our heart is by staying away
from sin, by staying away from evil deed.
And so if iman increases by doing good
deeds, then it decreases
by committing sin, and so we should not
look at our sin, our sins, as being
light, as being insignificant.
We need to treat our sins as a
huge burden
that is bringing us down, and so there
are some of us who do all kinds
of good deeds, but then we wonder why
is my iman not going up? The reason
is this, it is your sins that are
holding you back. It's like someone who has
a tank of water, and he's filling this
tank, but there are holes in it, and
he's wondering why is it not filling. Or
your car, you fill it. You fill it
with gas. You want to get somewhere to
your destination, but you find that it's
tank, and so we need to make sure
that these sins that we look at as
being light and insignificant,
these are the number one cause for why
our iman remains low.
