Ibrahim Nuhu – Hadith 796 Riyad Us Saliheen
AI: Summary ©
The importance of following the Prophet's principles and conditions for one's health and safety is emphasized. The speaker describes a woman who talks about her love for her mother and her father's actions, as well as her pride and strength. The speaker also discusses the importance of committing to settling and being a woman to imitate a girl, as it is seen as a means of obtaining rewards and opportunities. The Prophet sallali wasallam should not stay away from it, as it was a woman.

In the name of Allah, the most gracious,
the most merciful.
May the peace and blessings of Allah be
upon the Prophet and his family and companions.
Today is the 27th of October, 1446.
The date is October 1st, 2024.
We continue our lesson in this blessed book,
Riyadh al-Saliheen.
I ask Allah to bless us with what
we have learned, and to forgive us our
sins, and to forgive the author, and to
raise his rank among the lowly.
So, by the will of Allah, today we
continue from where we stopped in the last
lesson.
And I guess today we will be dealing
with a new hadith, which is the hadith
of Abu Huraira.
Abu Huraira said, A man came to the
Prophet ﷺ.
I'm sorry, he says, I remember a time
when a man was praying.
He was praying while his garment is below
the ankle.
The Prophet ﷺ told him, go and make
wudu again.
So Rasulullah ﷺ commanded him to repeat the
prayer and also the wudu as well.
The man went and he made wudu, and
he came back and he prayed.
Go and make wudu, and then pray again.
So Rasulullah ﷺ did not tell him, why
is he commanding him to do that?
So somebody who was observing what was happening
between the Prophet ﷺ and the man, He
said, Ya Rasulullah, you commanded him to go
and repeat his wudu, and re-pray again,
why was that?
He said, and you kept quiet, you did
not tell him anything, about the reason why
you have been advising him or commanding him
to go and repeat the wudu.
The Prophet ﷺ told him, I was doing
that because he was praying while doing the
Isbaal.
His lower garment goes below the ankle, so
the Prophet ﷺ told him to go and
pray again and make wudu.
Maybe we use this one.
So the Prophet ﷺ, he said, the reason
why I commanded him to go and re
-pray again, because he was doing that while
he was in a state of Isbaal.
وَإِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يَقْبَلُ صَلَاةَ رُجُلٍ مُسْبِلٍ And
Allah does not accept the prayer of a
person who does it while doing the Isbaal.
His pants or the lower garment are below
the ankles.
This hadith is collected by Abu Dawud.
And Abu Dawud kept quiet, and those who
study the book of Abu Dawud or study
hadith, you know that Abu Dawud has a
letter that he wrote to the people of
Mecca.
In that letter, in that small book, he
explained to the people that he was intending
about the nature of his book and the
principles and the conditions that he is following
when he was compiling the book.
He said, وَمَا سَكَتْتُ عَنْهُ فَهُوَ صَالِحٌ Whenever
I keep quiet, I narrate a hadith and
I keep quiet, I don't make any comment.
To me, that hadith is okay.
So when he narrated this hadith, he kept
quiet.
He did not say anything that's meant to
him.
The hadith is okay, it's sound.
Although the other scholars of hadith were looking
at it, they found the hadith to be
a weak narration.
But whatever the case might be, there are
some scholars who accept this hadith.
That's why to be on the safe side.
To be on the safe side is always
better for a person to follow that which
will not get him into trouble.
You can see what the Prophet ﷺ said
to the person to go and repeat the
prayer.
Although the hadith is weak, being on the
safe side is always good.
Qais bin Bashir at Taghlibi, he said, My
father told me, and my dad, one of
those who usually sit with the companion of
the Prophet ﷺ, very famous companion.
He said, And he says, in Damascus, there
was a man from amongst the companions of
the Prophet ﷺ, named Sahl ibn al-Hanzaliya.
He says, this person is a person who
loves to stay alone, without mixing with people.
He lived with the Prophet ﷺ.
But even at that time, the scholar said,
he is one of the people who loves
to adopt that kind of ascetic life.
Being alone, worshipping Allah ﷻ, not harming anyone,
not exposing himself to the harm from others.
He used to be like that.
So he maintained this attitude and behavior even
after the Prophet ﷺ.
But at the same time, doing his job.
That's why he is in Sham.
Because Sham is the place of Jihad.
They left Madinah, a lot of companions of
the Prophet ﷺ to go to Sham.
To contribute, to spread and offer the religion
of Allah ﷻ.
He is not a person that is just
at home, just busy with their ibadah, without
spreading their knowledge.
No, he does his job.
But whenever there is no need for him
to mix with people, he likes to be
alone.
You don't usually see him sitting with anyone.
That's why they said, You rarely find him
sitting with somebody.
He says, he prays all the time.
If he finishes the prayer, he will engage
in tasbih.
Until the time he meets his family.
So pray to Allah ﷻ after the prayer.
Tasbih a lot.
Until he gets back to his family.
So he said, this man passed us.
He said, I remember the time when he
was passing.
And we were with Abu Darda.
So Abu Darda, when he met him.
Because he knows that this is one of
the companions of the Prophet ﷺ.
He told him, please, before you go, share
with us.
Subhanallah, this is the jil of sahaba.
It's all about how to get benefit from
those people who have that which benefit others.
So when he sees the man, he knows
that leaving this man to go without benefiting
from him is a loss.
So he told him, he said, please.
Please share with us a word that will
benefit us and it will not harm you.
Please, anything that you can share with us
before you move.
Which will benefit us and it will not
harm you at the same time.
He says, when he told him this, then
the man said, Okay, I will share with
you one moment that I remember with the
Prophet ﷺ.
He said, I remember there was a time
when the Prophet ﷺ sent an army to
go and fight.
A small group of army to go and
fight.
So when they came back, they were with
the Prophet ﷺ.
There was a man among them, he was
sitting next to his friend.
And then he told the friend, he says,
He said, I wish you see us.
So these are two brothers, one of them
is talking to his friend next to him.
He said, He
says, I wish you were there to see
when we meet the enemy, when we met
the enemy of Allah ﷻ.
And so and so person was really brave.
And he was fighting the enemies.
He hit, he killed, he does this and
that.
And then when he met one of the
enemies, before he hit him with the sword,
he says, Take it.
I am the Shab from the tribe of
Ghafar.
I mean he is praising himself.
He said, take it.
I am so and so person.
So it's like, if you see it, it's
like he wants people to show his position.
And also he is doing that to let
the people around him to know that he
is really brave and strong.
He says, So these are two friends are
talking about what happens.
So this one told him, he said, so
and so person said this word.
What do you think about this statement?
Somebody who is in the middle of Jihad,
and then he hits the enemy of Allah
ﷻ and say, Take it.
I am the Shab from this tribe.
And take it from me.
So he said, what do you think about
this kind of statement to be said at
this moment?
He says, when he asked his friend, what
do you think about this statement?
The friend said, no, this man lost his
reward.
All of his efforts was useless.
He came here for the sake of Allah.
Why is he mentioning this statement at this
moment?
Another person was listening.
Next to them, he said, no, for me,
this is okay.
And the battlefield, they should be really proud
and say anything that will make the enemies
of Allah ﷻ angry.
And they will be afraid of you also.
Can say any word, as long as it
is not haram in Islam, which can put
your fear in the heart of the enemy.
What's wrong with that?
Allah ﷻ says, One of the things that
is loved by the Sharia for those people
who are in that place, to do anything
that will put the fear of the believers
who are at that place, in the heart
of the enemies of Allah ﷻ.
So he said, I don't think this is
wrong.
He says, they started arguing.
This one said this, this one said that.
The Prophet ﷺ heard about the argument.
So he says, subhanallah.
He said, what's wrong with that?
Why can't he get reward and be praised
at the same time?
That's why many scholars said, even to walk
arrogantly is wrong, except if you are at
the battlefield.
Because you need to show the enemies anything
that will make them scared of you.
You get the idea?
So if this person is saying this, what's
wrong with that?
So the Prophet ﷺ said, there is nothing
wrong with this.
Why can't he be rewarded by Allah ﷻ
and also get the praise in this dunya
at the same time?
He says, when he said that, Abu al
-Darda looked at him.
He says, He said, did you hear this
from the Prophet ﷺ?
He said, yes.
Abu al-Darda kept on repeating, did you
hear this from Rasul ﷺ?
And he was so happy.
The Rawi said, I can see from the
face of Abu al-Darda, he was so
happy.
Because these type of things happens from the
army.
If it is not going to be praised,
then many of them will get into trouble.
Many of them will get into trouble.
And it is part of the nature of
the people in those days also.
That's why if you follow the Ghazwah of
the Prophet ﷺ, you hear a lot of
statements like this.
Ali ibn Abi Talib was still praising himself
when he was meeting those criminals in the
Battle of Khaybar.
And he got them down.
The man was praising himself and Ali ibn
Abi Talib came and also mentioned something which
is much greater than what he is saying.
Because they need this.
He is proud of his strength and his
power.
He also says something that will scare him.
Because the purpose is to call him down.
And to make sure that he is defeated
so that his evil does not reach the
Muslims.
So that's number one.
He says, we left him.
Another day, the man passed again.
Alhamdulillah.
Abu Darda met him.
He said, I was there also with Abu
Darda.
So Abu Darda told him, please share with
us one word that will benefit us and
you will not get harmed by saying it.
He says, the one who spends on khayl,
khayl are the horses.
The one who is spending on them is
just like a person who stretches his hand
and opens it with a huge amount of
money and lets people come and pick it
up in charity.
And he never closes it.
It's like you are in a state of
charity all the time.
Subhanallah, this type of animal, the Prophet said,
He says, Allah wants to put barakah in
the forehead of the horses until the day
of judgment.
Read what the Prophet said about taking care
of them and get a lot of benefit.
That's what one of the Lahu that the
Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam enjoys.
And he says, Islam recognized in Lahu playing
games.
One of them is horse riding.
He said, There are no games that Islam
recognized except three.
Number one, the horse riding.
Number two, the archery.
Number three, a person going back to play
with his wife.
What is your comment?
So no horse riding, no archery, no wife.
May Allah guide them.
So the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam said, These
are the three things that Allah sallallahu alaihi
wasallam recognized.
Meaning if you do any one of them,
you will be rewarded by Allah sallallahu alaihi
wasallam.
That's why I wasn't joking when I always
emphasize on this matter.
One of the most noblest act of worship,
If somebody take it properly and observe the
Sunnah of the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam, It's
marriage.
Stay with the family, you get reward.
Play with them, you get reward.
Teach them, you get reward.
Subhanallah, almost every part of it is rewardable.
He said, Even in that water that you
cast in the womb of your wife, Allah
will write a charity for you.
That one doesn't go to the brain of
the companions of the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam.
They said, Ya Rasulullah, you mean one of
us will attain his desire, enjoy himself and
Allah is going to write reward for him?
He said, Yes.
What do you think if he is to
commit zina and do that in the haram
way?
Don't you think he will get sin?
He said, Yes, Ya Rasulullah.
He said, Wallahi, noorub.
That is more merciful than Allah sallallahu alaihi
wasallam.
This is absolute mercy from Allah sallallahu alaihi
wasallam.
Even in the dunya matters, if you do
it correctly, in the way shariah prescribes for
you, you will be rewarded by Allah sallallahu
alaihi wasallam.
That's why the scholar said, If you see
somebody dying and getting into trouble with Allah
sallallahu alaihi wasallam, definitely this guy is a
loser.
With all of this intensive amount of mercy,
how is it possible for you to go
back to Allah sallallahu alaihi wasallam and get
lost?
Ibrahim a.s, when he was talking to
his father, He said, He said,
The scholar said, Why didn't he say, Which
one is scarier?
He did not say, He said, This
is an indication to the father that with
all of this intensive amount of mercy from
Allah sallallahu alaihi wasallam, How did you push
so much in the way you end up
going to *?
What is this?
And this is a message to us also.
This religion of ours is full of chances
and opportunities for people to pass the test
in this dunya and go back to Allah
sallallahu alaihi wasallam peacefully.
So I guess my words inshallah get into
your ears, right?
It is a big loss for you to
remain in the way you are if you
are not married yet.
So inshallah by next week, the nature of
the class should change inshallah.
So he says, He
said, And then he says, There was another
day also the man passed us.
So Abu Dabda told him the same thing.
He said, Please one word which will benefit
us and you will not get harmed by
saying it.
He says, The Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam said,
What an excellent man is Khuraym Al-Asadi.
If not because of his hair that is
so long and also his hand that goes
below the ankle, he could have been one
of the best people, one of the most
excellent people.
He said, So somebody
informed him that the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam
said this.
So immediately he took a knife and cut
his hair and make it shorter.
Because keeping long hair is okay if a
person will take care of it.
He do it sometimes, not all the time
Rasulallah sallallahu alaihi wasallam does it.
So we have two conditions here.
Number one is if the community you are
living in tolerate it and see it as
something okay.
Yeah, if people see you as a woman,
then it's haram for you to do it
because you are imitating a girl.
And most likely that's the reason why the
Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam blamed him for doing
that in this hadith.
And if also it becomes the adornment of
the bad people in the community, then you
shouldn't, you should stay away from it because
Rasulallah sallallahu alaihi wasallam did not command us
to do it.
This is a Sunan of the Prophet sallallahu
alaihi wasallam.
And also at the same time when a
person kept it, he shouldn't keep it in
the way it will make him like a
woman.
If he looks like a woman then that's
keeping the long hair will be wrong.
So I guess the mu'adhin is telling
us our time is up.
So inshallah next week I will come to
this part and elaborate more on it until
the end of the hadith.
There is a question about competition, right?
What is the question about?
I can't remember a hadith that is authentically
attributed to the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam concerning
that matter.
But whatever a person is doing of exercise
to maintain his health, if he has good
intention in it, he will also be rewarded.
You want to be healthy so that you
can practice your ibadah properly.
And you don't exaggerate and waste more than
what you need.
That's a good, a believer shouldn't stay weak.
The companions of the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam,
they're always active.
They actually do.
I remember the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam, I
found them holding the branches of the tree
and doing the pull-ups.
So he told them, what are you doing?
They said, we are gaining muscles.
So the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam, because you
need your side, they always use sword.
So the hand has to be strong enough
to be able to hold.
I remember in one of the battles, one
of the companions met one of those enemies.
He was mudajjaj, a silah.
He covered himself with a metal.
There is no space in his body that
he can hit.
So that companion went with his sword and
hit him on his head and his neck.
Subhanallah, he managed to break the metal and
also it affected the neck of that person.
The neck was broken.
That man died.
So somebody, after the battle, the companions came
and they asked him, can we see the
sword?
So they were watching the sword.
They were saying, what kind of sword is
this?
So he got mad at them.
He said, what do you mean?
The sword was the one who went and...
You should say, what kind of hand is
this?
So whatever you are doing, exercise with good
intention to maintain your health.
A person, if he has good intention, inshallah,
he will be rewarded.
That's why the scholar said, a Muslim can
convert and turn his dunya activities into an
act of worship, if he wishes.
It's all about having good intention.
Making sure that you do the right thing.
What Allah SWT wants you to observe it
and enjoying your life.
But at the same time, also you have
a purpose.
Why do you do this?
And this should be the life of a
believer.
So I guess that is also another question
concerning running, being one of those recognized things,
right?
The hadith that comes from the Prophet SAW,
it's not about running itself.
But Prophet SAW talk about as-sabaq.
He said, la sabaqa illa fi khuffin, or
haafinin, or naslin.
He said, there is no as-sabaq.
As-sabaq is the reward.
You put, you know, competitors, you agree.
If one of us win, he should take
this.
So I give some contribution.
Hamad, Fazal, Adam and all of us contributed.
But the agreement is that whoever wins will
take the whole thing.
What do you call this?
Gambling.
So the Prophet SAW said, the only time
when these type of things are permitted in
Islam is when you do it in one
of the three things.
Either horse riding, or camel riding, or archery.
This is the only time when Islam tolerates
this.
And the scholars said, the reason why Islam
tolerates this is because they are all used
for the defense.
So if you make analogy that military competitions
they are doing, you get it?
As long as they have good intention and
they do it for the purpose of defending
the religion of Allah SWT and also the
country and the Muslims, They will be rewarded,
inshallah.
You get it?
So that's how the hadith put it.
Horse riding, archery, and also camel riding.
Other than that, if a person is to
have this type of competition whereby there is
a winner, there is a loser, this is
gambling in Islam.
Allah SWT made it prohibited in all of
its forms.
Allah grant us good, does it?
Subhanakallah wa bihamdika shara la ilaha illa anta
astaghfirullah wa atubu ilayh.
Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.
