Assalamualaikum, I am an architect from Bangladesh.
It is stated that when you offer the
tahajjud prayer, Allah grants whatever you ask for.
The prayer, that is the dua, is like
an arrow that doesn't miss its mark.
Then why is it when I ask Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala for something numerous times
in my tahajjud prayer, I am not granted
for what I have asked?
Why was the thing which I wanted taken
away from me instead?
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says in the
glorious Quran in Surah Al-Baqarah, chapter number
two, verse number 186.
وَإِذَا سَأَلَكَ عِبَادِي عَنِّي فَإِنِّي قَرِيبُ And when
my servant calls upon me, I respond to
the call of the caller.
And when my servant calls upon me, I
am close to him.
I respond to the call of the caller.
We should call upon Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala.
We should do dua to Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala.
If we sincerely do dua to Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala, Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala,
he will respond to our dua, he will
respond to our supplication.
So we should be sincere as far as
our dua is concerned.
Now many a times when we call upon
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala, we feel that
our dua, our supplications are not answered by
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
We feel that our supplications are not being
accepted.
When we ask Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
for something, many a times we feel that
it is not answered.
A believer, when he asks Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala for something and he receives what
he has asked for, he should be happy.
And a believer is generally happy when he
receives what he has asked for from Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala.
But when a believer asks Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala for something and he does not
receive it, so he should be multiple times
more happy.
Why?
Because the first was his choice.
When he asks Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
for something and he was granted it, it
was his choice.
And the second is Allah's choice.
So a believer, when his dua is not
answered or when he asks for something and
he is not given this particular thing, he
should be multiple times more happy.
Because it is the choice of Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala.
Now what are the reasons why a person's
dua and supplication is not answered by Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala?
There are certain reasons why a person's dua
and supplication is not answered by Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala.
In sha Allah, I will mention eight reasons
why a person's dua is not answered by
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
The first is when we ask Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala for something, this thing may
not be good for us.
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says in the
glorious Quran in Surah Al-Baqarah, chapter number
2, verse number 216.
That fighting has been prescribed for you and
you dislike it.
And perhaps you dislike a thing but it
is good for you.
And perhaps you like a thing but it
is not good for you.
Allah knows and you do not know.
So many a times we ask Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala for something but it is
not good for us.
I would like to give you an example.
A person asks Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
for a motorcycle and he constantly does dua
to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala, asking Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala eagerly to grant him
a motorcycle.
But Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala does not
accept his dua.
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala does not grant
him a motorcycle.
Why?
Because Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala knows that
if this person is given a motorcycle, he
will meet with an accident and he will
die.
So many a times you may ask for
something but it is not good for us.
I would like to give another example of
a person wherein he was supposed to board
a flight.
He was supposed to go to a country
wherein he was going to click a deal
of a million dollars.
This person, he constantly does dua to Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala that this trip be
successful and he is hoping that he is
able to board the flight and he constantly
does dua to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
and he plans his day in such a
way so that he will not miss the
flight.
Now, while he is going to the airport,
there is excessive traffic and he is constantly
doing dua to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
that he should not miss his flight while
he is on the way to the airport.
He reaches the airport and he misses his
flight.
He is so irritated and sad that he
says that this is the worst day of
my life.
I was supposed to go to this place
and make a million dollars but because I
missed my flight, this is the worst thing
that has happened to me.
A few hours later, he reads the newspaper
and he happens to watch one of the
news channels and the flight which he was
about to board, it crashes and all the
passengers in that flight, they pass away.
This person immediately says that this is the
best thing that has happened to me in
my life.
A few hours before, when he was about
to board the flight, before boarding the flight,
he is cursing this day and he is
complaining and saying that this is the worst
thing that has happened to me.
A few hours later, he says that this
is the best thing that has happened to
him.
So, many a times we may ask Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala for something but we
do not realize that this thing is not
good for us.
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is all knowledgeable.
He knows what is good for us human
beings.
He knows what is bad for us human
beings.
The second reason why our dua is not
accepted by Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala, why
our supplications are not accepted by Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala is because the dua in
itself is weak.
We are asking Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
for something that is inappropriate.
For example, a person asks Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala to grant him life forever in
the life of this world.
He is asking Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
to give him life forever in this world.
We know that the life of this world,
it is a test and each and every
human being, he will live in this world
for a particular time period.
No human being can live forever in the
life of this world, the home of the
year after it is everlasting and it is
eternal, but the life of this world, it
is temporary.
So, this person, he is asking Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala to grant him life forever
in the life of this world.
The dua itself, it is inappropriate.
The third reason why our dua and our
supplications are not answered by Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala is because we ask Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala in an inappropriate manner.
Many a times, many of the Muslims, when
they call upon Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala,
they cry in front of Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala in a negative way, complaining, lamenting,
being ungrateful to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
When we call upon Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala, we should not complain to Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala.
We should not be ungrateful, but rather we
should be grateful to Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala.
The difference between a true believer and a
person who complains and who is ungrateful is
like that of a person who cries.
The believer, he cries in front of Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala, but these tears are
out of fear of Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala, whereas the person who is complaining, he
is also crying, but he is crying in
a negative way.
He is complaining to Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala.
He is lamenting in front of Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala.
He is ungrateful for the blessings that Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala has given him.
So, when we ask Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala, we should ask in an appropriate manner.
We should not complain to Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala.
The fourth reason why our dua and supplications
are not answered by Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala is because we are involved in something
that is haram.
Many a times we do things that are
haram and we do not realize it.
We should see to that we abstain from
all sins, especially the major sins.
A person, for example, he is involved in
something that is haram.
He is drinking alcohol.
He is a person who lies.
He is a person who cheats.
He is a person who backbites.
Why will Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala answer
his dua?
This is one of the reasons why a
person's dua is not accepted.
Because he is involved in things that are
haram.
We should stay away from all the sins,
especially the major sins.
The fifth reason why our dua, our supplications
are not answered by Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala is because we do not do the
things that are fardh, that are compulsory in
Islam.
Certain things are fardh.
Certain things are compulsory in Islam.
But we neglect the faraidh.
For example, a person, he does not offer
his obligatory salah, his obligatory prayer.
He is neglectful as far as the five
daily prayers are concerned.
This person, he does not give zakah.
He does not fast in the month of
Ramadan.
Why will Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala respond
to his dua, to his supplications?
So we should see to that we do
all the things that are fardh.
Whether it be offering salah five times a
day, whether it be giving zakah, whether it
be fasting in the month of Ramadan.
The more religious and righteous we are, the
higher chances that our dua, our supplications will
be accepted by Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
The sixth reason why our dua, our supplications
are not accepted by Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala is because we are hasteful.
Many a times when we call upon Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala, we are hasteful and
we are not patient.
We need to patiently wait for a response
from Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
Whenever we ask Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
for anything in this world, we should not
be hasteful.
But we should patiently wait for Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala to accept our dua, to
accept our supplications.
And this is a test from Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala.
He is testing us believers that are we
really from among his patient servants?
Are we from among those people who patiently
wait so that our dua be accepted by
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala?
And the true believers, they are the ones
who are patient and they are the ones
who are grateful for the ni'mah, for the
blessings that Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala has
bestowed upon them.
The seventh reason why our dua and supplications
are not accepted by Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala is because we consume things that are
haram.
Our income, it is haram.
So for example, a person, he works in
a conventional bank, a bank that deals in
riba.
His income, it is haram.
This could be one of the reasons why
his dua is not accepted by Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala.
Certain people, they may cheat in their business.
Certain people, they may lie to others.
Certain people, they may involve in bribe.
A person may be serving alcohol in a
restaurant and we very well know that serving
alcohol, it is prohibited.
So when a person's income is haram, why
will Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala respond to
his dua?
When a person's income is haram, this is
a reason why his dua and supplications are
not accepted by Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
A person may be involved in gambling.
He earns all his money through gambling.
So all of these things are haram.
Many of us, we are aware that these
things are haram, but yet we indulge in
it.
So we should see to that our source
of income, it is completely halal.
And this reminds me of an incident.
Which was narrated by beloved Prophet Muhammad peace
be upon him.
When in a person, he was traveling in
the desert and he was tired because of
the journey and his clothes are dirty and
he raises his hand and he calls upon
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
But his income, it is haram.
What he eats, it is haram.
He is involved in things that are haram.
Why will Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala respond
to his dua?
Why will Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala respond
to supplications?
And the eighth reason why our dua and
supplications are not accepted by Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala is because our dua, it is
conditional.
For example, a person, he calls upon Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala and he says, O
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala, forgive me if
you will.
O Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala, have mercy
on me if you will.
Our beloved Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him
said that whenever we call upon Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala our dua, it should not
be conditional.
We should directly ask Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala for whatever we require.
These are eight reasons why our dua, our
supplications are not accepted by Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala.
Now inshallah, I will discuss eight tips that
will lead to our dua, our supplications being
accepted by Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
The first is sincerity.
Our dua, it should be sincere.
Whenever we call upon Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala we should call upon Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala with sincerity.
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says in the
Glorious Qur'an Surah Al-Ghafir chapter number
40, verse number 14 So you call upon
and invoke upon your Lord with sincerity.
Worshipping Him alone and performing righteous deeds with
sincerity without showing off.
So there should be sincerity in our dua
and our supplications.
The second tip that will lead to our
dua being accepted by Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala is that we should constantly ask for
repentance from Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
The more istighfar we do the more our
dua will be accepted by Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala.
The more istighfar we do the more we
will realize the amount of sins that we
have committed.
Our beloved Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him
he used to turn to Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala and ask forgiveness from Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala no less than 100 times
a day.
How many times do we ask for repentance
from Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala?
How many times do we ask for forgiveness
from Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala?
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says in the
Glorious Qur'an in Surah Al-Nuh chapter
number 71 verse number 10 to 12 and
Nuh alayhi salam he tells his people فَقُلْتُ
اسْتَغْفِرُوا رَبَّكُمْ إِنَّهُ كَانَ غَفَّارًۭا فَقُلْتُ اسْتَغْفِرُوا
رَبَّكُمْ إِنَّهُ كَانَ غَفَّارًۭا and he said to
them فَقُلْتُ اسْتَغْفِرُوا رَبَّكُمْ إِنَّهُ كَانَ غَفَّارًۭا that
ask forgiveness from your Lord إِنَّهُ كَانَ غَفَّارًۭا
for he is all forgiving يُرْسِل السَّمَاءَ عَلَيْكُمْ
مِّدْرَارًۭا he will send down rain from the
skies وَيُمْدِدْكُمْ بِأَمْوَالِ وَبَنِينَ وَيُمْدِدْكُمْ بِأَمْوَالِ وَبَنِينَ
and he will bestow you with wealth and
children وَيَجْعَلْ لَكُمْ جَنَّاتٍ وَيَجْعَلْ لَكُمْ
أَنْهَارًۭا
that they should ask forgiveness from Allah سُبْحَانَهُ
وَتَعَالَى the third tip that will lead to
our Dua our supplications being accepted by Allah
سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى is that we should besiege and
call upon Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى with humility the
more humble we are in our Dua the
more our Dua will be accepted by Allah
سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى so we should call upon Allah
سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى with humility and it is mentioned
in the Glorious Quran Surah Al-A'raf
Chapter 7 wherein Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى says and
invoke upon your Lord with humility and in
secret so whenever we call upon Allah سُبْحَانَهُ
وَتَعَالَى we should call upon Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى
with humility do Dua to Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى
with humility the fourth reason the fourth tip
that will lead to our Dua our supplications
being accepted by Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى is the
fifth that we should call upon Allah سُبْحَانَهُ
وَتَعَالَى repeatedly whenever we ask Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى
for something we should not lose hope and
we should constantly ask Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى for
this particular thing this is very important constantly
asking Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى constantly doing Dua to
Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى the more we call upon
Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى the more Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى
loves it the fifth tip that will lead
to a Dua a supplication being accepted by
Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى is that we should call
Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى during times of ease many
of us in fact most of us we
remember Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى during times of difficulties
how many of us remember Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى
during times of ease, during good times if
we remember Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى during good and
happy times a Dua it will be accepted
by Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى and there is a
famous couplet of Saint Kabir wherein he rightly
says that that people remember God during
hardships and difficulties who remembers God during good
times and happy times the person who remembers
God during good and happy times why should
trouble touch him so we should remember Allah
سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى in all situations whether we are
in good times whether we are in hardship
whether we are in a difficulty we should
remember Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى in all situations the
sixth tip that will lead to our Dua
our supplications being answered by Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى
is that we should call upon Allah سُبْحَانَهُ
وَتَعَالَى with his beautiful names and attributes Allah
سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى says in the glorious Quran Surah
Al-A'raf chapter number 7 verse number
118 وَلِلَّهِ الْأَسْمَاءُ الْحُسْنَةَ فَدْعُوهُ بِهَا and to
Allah belongs the beautiful names the most beautiful
names so call upon Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى with
his beautiful names whenever we call upon Allah
سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى we should call upon Allah سُبْحَانَهُ
وَتَعَالَى with his beautiful names the seventh tip
that will lead to our Dua our supplications
being answered by Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى is that
whenever we do any Dua we should always
praise Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى before we call upon
him and we should send salutations to our
beloved Prophet Muhammad may peace and blessings be
upon him so we should praise Allah سُبْحَانَهُ
وَتَعَالَى send salutations upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad
and then we should ask Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى
for whatever we require the eighth tip that
will lead to our Dua and supplications being
answered by Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى is that we
should ask Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى at during important
times during specific times that are prescribed by
our beloved Prophet Muhammad that are mentioned in
the Hadith of our beloved Prophet Muhammad may
peace and blessings be upon him the best
time there are certain Hadith of our beloved
Prophet Muhammad which mention certain times wherein we
can call Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى for example calling
upon Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى during the last nights
of Ramadan this is a crucial time where
we can make Dua to Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى
InShaAllah Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى will respond to our
supplications besides this we can also call upon
Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى on the day of Arafah
this is an important day for us to
do Dua to Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى to call
upon Allah سُبْحَانَهُ wa ta'ala besides and
throughout the day on the day of Arafah
throughout the day we can call upon Allah
subhana wa ta'ala until Maghrib time besides
this we can also call upon Allah subhana
wa ta'ala during our tahajjud prayer in
the last one third of the night this
is a crucial time wherein Allah subhana wa
ta'ala He will respond to our dua,
He will respond to our supplications besides this
we can also call upon Allah subhana wa
ta'ala on Friday after the Asr Salah
one hour before the Maghrib Salah this is
a crucial time to do dua to Allah
subhana wa ta'ala so these are few
times wherein we can call upon Allah subhana
wa ta'ala these are important times which
we should not miss and we should see
to that we call upon Allah subhana wa
ta'ala always especially during these times that
I have mentioned so these are eight tips
that will lead to our dua being answered
by Allah subhana wa ta'ala we should
call upon Allah subhana wa ta'ala with
sincerity and we should be grateful for the
ni'mah that Allah subhana wa ta'ala has
bestowed upon us and many a times when
we ask Allah subhana wa ta'ala for
something we see that that thing is taken
away from us we may have something and
we ask Allah subhana wa ta'ala to
grant us more of something but we realize
that this thing is taken away from us
for example there is a poor person he
is a religious and righteous person and he
asks Allah subhana wa ta'ala to give
him wealth Allah subhana wa ta'ala gives
him wealth and then later on he asks
Allah subhana wa ta'ala for more of
wealth but Allah subhana wa ta'ala does
not give him wealth but rather Allah subhana
wa ta'ala takes away a part of
his wealth why because after this person was
granted wealth he went away from the Sirat
al-Mustaqeem he went away from the straight
path the moment he had wealth he started
getting extravagant he started showing off and he
was proud of his wealth the moment he
started getting wealth he did not give Zakah
previously he was a poor person Zakah was
not compulsory upon him but the moment he
started getting wealth he became boastful and he
became stingy and he did not want to
give his wealth so Allah subhana wa ta
'ala takes away a part of his wealth
so that he remains on the straight path
he remains on the Sirat al-Mustaqeem so
many a times Allah subhana wa ta'ala
may take away something from us but it
is for our benefit we may have wealth
and Allah subhana wa ta'ala may take
away a part of our wealth because Allah
subhana wa ta'ala knows that this person
if he has wealth it will lead him
towards the wrong track he will commit sins
he will be boastful he will not give
Zakah so his abode it will be hellfire
but if Allah subhana wa ta'ala takes
away a part of his wealth he will
be a righteous human being he will be
a good human being and his abode it
will be paradise so many a times we
do not know many things but Allah subhana
wa ta'ala he has knowledge of the
unseen and he has knowledge of all things
whenever we call upon Allah subhana wa ta
'ala whenever we do dua to Allah subhana
wa ta'ala either one of four things
happens the first is that what we ask
for it is given to us otherwise accepted
the second is that we are not given
what we have asked for but Allah subhana
wa ta'ala gives us something that is
better the third is that we ask Allah
subhana wa ta'ala for something we do
not get what we have asked for but
a calamity that was going to befall us
Allah subhana wa ta'ala prevents this calamity
from befalling us and the fourth is that
we do not receive what we have asked
for in this world but we have a
greater share in the afterlife so that's the
reason I would urge all the brothers and
sisters and all the viewers that to constantly
call upon Allah subhana wa ta'ala do
dua to Allah subhana wa ta'ala and
never lose hope in the mercy of Allah
subhana wa ta'ala the dua it is
the weapon of a believer I hope that
answers your question
