00:01:00 --> 00:01:27
			today's lectures in titled in his footsteps, meaning the footsteps of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi
wa sallam, and it's centered around the theme of the Sunnah. And what I've done is I've divided this
lecture into two main broad categories. The first will deal with the legality of the Sunnah and the
status in Islam. And then the second portion is regarding those who reject the validity of the
Sunnah. And they reject the Sunnah either because

00:01:28 --> 00:01:38
			due to some misconceptions, or because they consider that the sooner is not actually a legally valid
binding proof. But before we go into that lecture, what I wanted to do

00:01:39 --> 00:02:19
			is mentioned to you a number of incidents and stories regarding how the sell off of this oma, the
companions rhodiola were on him and the scholars who followed in their footsteps, the amount of
passion and enthusiasm they will dedicate to the sooner and how they would value the sooner and what
kind of sacrifices they would do in order to achieve the sooner and to preserve the sooner because
most of us when it comes to the Quran, and this is obviously taken from the statement of the Prophet
sallallahu alayhi wasallam that you will not be misguided so long as you remain firm on to two
things, the Book of Allah and my Sunnah. So normally, when it comes to most Muslims, when it comes

00:02:19 --> 00:02:53
			to the Quran, you will find that they even if they maybe don't give it its due, right, maybe they
don't read it all the time. Maybe they don't understand the Quran. Maybe they don't even implement
it. But they know deep down that they need to do more, they need to dedicate more towards the Quran.
This is something which every Muslim will have in his heart or her heart, regardless of the actions.
But that same amount of value, that same amount of dedication is not found for the sooner. So most
people with regards to the sooner they don't read the books of sooner, they don't understand the
sooner they don't study, the sooner they don't implement the sooner but at the same time, they don't

00:02:53 --> 00:03:14
			even have that urge within their hearts to even go towards the sooner and to actually dedicate some
time towards it. And this is why it's very important to know how the scholars of Islam the
Companions for the Allah and home, how they would dedicate so much time towards the Sunnah, and I
have a number of incidents for you. The first is the famous companion above.

00:03:18 --> 00:03:59
			You know that he met the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam in the year of fiber and fiber is
roughly around the seventh year of the hedgerow. So he only remained in the company of the Prophet
sallallahu alayhi wasallam for approximately three years. But even though that's the case, he is the
single companion who has the most Hadith narrated from the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam he
has over 5000 and this is the exact same excuse or the exact same reasoning that the old entrusts us
to reject the Sunnah. They say that you have companions like Abu Bakr and Omar, who were muslims for
over 20 years and they only generated 100 or so to 300 Hadith. Whereas then you have Abu hurayrah,

00:04:00 --> 00:04:38
			who was a Muslim phony three years he only accompany the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam for
three years, and he has over 5000 ahaadeeth. So there is this discrepancy there that they think is a
discrepancy. So based upon this, they deduced that Abu hurayrah is actually a figment of our
imagination is not actually someone real, but some that the Muslims concocted in order to ascribe
the sayings of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam via a chain. So when the Muslims couldn't find
anyone else, they would say Abu hurayrah said that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said, and
this is one of the reasonings that they give. So the reason why I chose one of the stories being a

00:04:38 --> 00:04:44
			verbal hurayrah is to also because we're going to deal with this later to also deal with this
misconception

00:04:45 --> 00:04:59
			about Marina rhodiola when he met the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam in the seventh year, and
he dedicated his whole life towards the Sunnah of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, and
narrating a hadith from him to the extent that he would go day

00:05:00 --> 00:05:40
			Upon days without any food or any water, severe hunger and thirst, why? Because he wouldn't work. He
wouldn't seek a job. He wouldn't seek an income he would dedicate himself to studying knowledge and
accompanying the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam. It is even said to the extent that sometimes he
would fall down, and it would seem that he had an epileptic fit. It would seem like he was he was
having epilepsy, he would just go into convulsions, he would have Fitz foam would come out of his
mouth, not because he was possessed by the gym that some people at that time will think he was
possessed. But it was because he had severe hunger and thirst, his body just couldn't take it. There

00:05:40 --> 00:06:17
			is an incident that Abu huraira rhodiola one, and this was the way that he was, he was his whole
life was just like this, dedicated to studying knowledge, presenting the Hadith of the Prophet
salallahu alayhi wa sallam. One day he came to the masjid. And he was severely hungry. He was
really, really hungry. So he thought to himself that after the prayer, I will go to the Prophet
sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, and speak to him and walk back to him towards his house, and perhaps he
will invite me in and give me some food. So after the prayer, he went and he met the Prophet
sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, and he went back towards his house, he met him he spoke to him. And

00:06:17 --> 00:06:55
			then when the Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam got to his house, he excused himself and he entered
into his house alone. So Abu hurayrah did not know what to do. So he went back to the masjid. He
went back to the masjid and he found Abu Bakar so he thought, Okay, let me try this with Abu Bakar.
So he accompanied Abu Bakar all the way to his house, and the houses weren't too far from the masjid
during that time. He accompanies him back to his house, and again, he's speaking to him hoping that
he will invite him in. Abubakar goes to his house and he excuses himself and he goes along sobu
Herrera again returns to the musty looking for someone else. Who does he find? I'm gonna ignore

00:06:55 --> 00:07:34
			Barbara deola when he goes tournament, even on a hotdog, and he does the same thing starts talking
to him hoping that will invite me into his house panel to look at this like dedicated This is how
severe his hunger is. So he is going with the Ramadan DOM and they go back to the house and they're
talking and what happens Omar excuses himself and he goes in alone. So ahora has to go back to the
masjid without any food. The next prayer comes, and this time again, he wants to do the same thing.
He wants to see the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam accompany him. Hopefully, he will take him
back home. When the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam after the prayer sees Abu hurayrah he

00:07:34 --> 00:08:16
			notices that his color has changed. His body is so weak, he's barely walking. He can barely lift
himself. So bow to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam says to Abu hurayrah come in with me to
my house. So Abu huraira goes in and he enters the house of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam,
and the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam asks Are I shall rhodiola wa, Arusha Do we have anything
to give our guest? Our Isha says yes, we have some milk. That's all we have. spaniel, even the
prophets on alajuela even salam, All he has is milk. So he came, he gets the milk, and he gives it
to Abu hurayrah. And he says, oh, Abu hurayrah go to the mosque, and give it to the people of the

00:08:16 --> 00:08:55
			sofa. The people of the so for people who lived within the mosque of the Prophet salallahu alayhi
wasallam they were the homeless companions. They were so poor, that they had no shelter, no food, no
drink, subwoofer arrows like on his last legs. But the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam gave him
this container of milk prices, don't drink it, go to the mosque, and give it to the poor first. So
Abu huraira rhodiola one in order to respect the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, he accompanies
the Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam all the way back to the mosque. And he goes around and
there's like 2030 people in the sofa. He goes around all of them, and he gives them the milk and he

00:08:55 --> 00:09:23
			can feel the container is getting lighter and lighter and lighter. And then finally after he
finishes giving the medal to all of them, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam says to him drink,
or Buddha or drink Subbu Herrera begins to drink and he thinks there's nothing left so he drinks a
little bit, and he wants to save some to give to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam so he brings
a little bit and he stops. So the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam says to him drink more, so he
drinks a bit more.

00:09:24 --> 00:09:59
			And then again he stops. So then the prophets of Salaam says to him drink more, and then he drinks
and he drinks until he becomes so full and he says, to the prophet SAW Selim O Messenger of Allah, I
can't drink anymore. But this was the level of dedication that those companions brought the Allah on
one hand. There was another companion during that time, jabbing even Abdullah for the Allah and also
one of the companions who was known for writing the Hadith of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa
sallam, Jabir ibn Abdullah the Allahu, and after the death of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa
sallam. He was going through some of the

00:10:00 --> 00:10:42
			Hadeeth that he had memorized. One of those a hadith was where the Prophet salallahu alayhi wa
sallam spoke about yarmulke Yama and that on the Day of Judgment, people will come and they will be
naked. They will be bare footed, they will be uncircumcised. And that Allah subhanho wa Taala will
speak to them on that day, and those who are near to Allah, and those who are far from Allah will
hear him in exactly the same way there will be no difference. So those who are far away will hear
Allah just as those who are close by when Germany, Abdullah was revising this Hadith, he had doubts
that he had memorized it perfect. He had perfected its memorization. he doubted that you knew it

00:10:42 --> 00:11:00
			properly. And he couldn't think of any other companion who had was there and memorize this Hadith,
except for one of the library when he saw the Allah one. Now during that time, Abdullah Ebony on ice
is living in Egypt. Jabir bin Abdullah is living in Medina.

00:11:02 --> 00:11:43
			So Jabir ibn Abdullah, according to some narrations right there, and then he decides that he's going
to travel all the way to Egypt, just to meet his companion to make sure that his memorization of
this hadith is correct. Now, the only way he can get there is to sell everything that he has, is a
poor companion. So he has to sell everything that he owns, in order to get a horse or camel or some
kind of riding animal. So he can go all the way to Egypt, and from Medina to Egypt, even on
horseback will probably take you a month is not a short ride. So he sells everything that he has
everything that he owns, and he's going what to do to just get one hardy from Egypt. So he goes all

00:11:43 --> 00:12:22
			the way to Egypt. After selling everything, he buys his animal. He goes all the way to Egypt. And
then he knocks on the house of Abdullayev and he says rhodiola and he knocks on his door, and he
finds that Abdullayev Nunez comes out and is surprised to see a companion having traveled all the
way from Medina just to meet him. So I'm delighted me when he says to him your job and what has
brought you to me. So jabil says I heard this hadith from the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam,
but I doubted my memory. So can you please confirm it, subdue libeling when he narrates the Hadith,
and it's exactly the same Hadees that Jabir ibn Abdullah also memorized. So then jabil says to him,

00:12:22 --> 00:13:00
			jacala faith, thank you very much. And he turns around, and he's leaving. Satellite Nunez calls him
and he says, Where are you going? He says, I'm going home. I'm going back to Medina. Satellite noon,
he says to him, why are you going you've just arrived at least sit down, have something to eat. Stay
with me, and then you can go. So Jabra says no, I only traveled from Medina to Egypt just to listen
to this hadith. And now that I've heard this Hadith, there is no reason for me to stay. So he goes
back onto his camera, and he travels all the way to Medina, simply for one Hadith of the Prophet
sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. And this is something which we also find, not just from the lives of

00:13:00 --> 00:13:38
			the Companions for the Allah who I know, but from the lives of the scholars who came after them as
well. When we look at the likes of Imam Ahmed Rahim Allah, an Imam, Shafi and emammal, Bihari all of
these illustrious scholars of Islam, they had the same dedication to the Sunnah of the Prophet
sallallahu What are they He will send them. It is reported that he mammas Shafi Rahim Allah Allah
was once in his Masjid, and a woman came to him and she said to him, Oh, Mr. Musharraf earring, I
want you to give me a single verse from the Quran. That tells us that we must obey the Sunnah of the
Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.

00:13:39 --> 00:14:19
			So Imam Shafi is this illustrious column and he obviously has memorized the Quran he knows the
Quran, he knows the Sunnah. He says to the woman go back and give me three days. Allow me to
research this for three days and then come back to me. So Imam Shafi tells the woman to go back she
goes back for three days he locks himself away, and he goes over the Quran innocent three times. He
keeps going over it and over it and over it. Now if I was to ask the same question to you, give me a
verse. Maybe many of us here could just pick something out of the air. But the Imam Shafi Rahim
Allah wanted to show the importance of the Sunnah. And he didn't just want to give her an answer

00:14:19 --> 00:14:51
			from the top of his head. He wanted to research it to show the value of the Sunnah of the Prophet
salallahu alayhi wa sallam. So then she comes back after three days. And he says to her, there are
many verses from the Quran. The most powerful one that I have seen is a statement of Allah. Yeah,
you have levina Manuel de la hora de arrazola. What a minimum income are you who believe by Allah
and obey the messenger and those who are in charge of your affairs. And then the woman goes back
three days he spent fighters, like was a mammoth rahima Allah Allah it was reported

00:14:52 --> 00:14:59
			that remember, Rahim Allah wanted to go to Yemen. He wanted to go to Yemen to study some Hadith from
one of the scholars of Yemen.

00:15:00 --> 00:15:38
			And then he decided along with one of his companions to go and travel to Yemen, but they thought
that on the way they would stop off in Makkah and they would perform hajj, Hajj time was coming. So
they thought they would go to Morocco first from Iraq, go to Mecca, perform hajj, and then continue
after Hajj to Yemen. So they go to lunch, and they're performing hajj. And they noticed that the
scanner that they wanted to meet in Yemen is actually they're performing hajj as one is in Makkah.
So the companion of your Mohammed says to Mr. Mohammed, instead of going all the way to Yemen, why
don't we just like save ourselves that extra trip? We're already halfway there. We don't need to go

00:15:38 --> 00:16:15
			all the way. Why don't we just ask him what we want you to ask him seek some honey from him. And
then we can just go back to the rock we save ourselves that extra journey. In my life mother Rahim
Allah said to his companion, if you want to do that you may do so go and ask him what you wish to
ask him. As for me, I will wait for him to go back to Yemen himself, wait for the chef to go back to
Yemen. Then I will travel to Yemen. And I will go there and study there with him. Because when he
came for lunch, he didn't come prepared to relay the Hadith of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi
wasallam This wasn't his goal. He wasn't prepared for this. He came for Hajj, and he doesn't have

00:16:15 --> 00:16:54
			his books. He's not prepared. He doesn't have his resources. And I'm not going to just take the
Hadith of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam like this, so he told him to wait and they waited
and then they went to Yemen after hunch. Likewise emammal Bihari Rahim Allah and we know that
Emmanuel Buhari has the most extensive collection of Hadith file Buhari. He has like what 9000 plus
Hadith in Sahih al Bukhari mmm Buhari mentions at the beginning of his saying in his introduction,
that before he narrated any Hadith within this book, he performed to rockhard service the hora he
played two rockers and he made to her to Allah, that allow him that allows the region should allow

00:16:54 --> 00:17:36
			him to enter only authentic hadith within this book. So if there's mine 1000 plus Hadith, and you
pay two rockers for each Hadith has like over 18,000 rockers just for one single book, Mr. Bahari is
praying 18,000 Records Subhanallah imagine 18,000 brokers so that he would only have authentic a
Hardee's within this book, and there are many, many other stories that I can narrate to you. But the
whole purpose of the sexual wasn't just to go into the stories of the scholars and how they preserve
the sooner the point being that they sacrificed so much when it came to learning and studying the
Sunnah of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam and it's unfortunate that most of us, the vast

00:17:36 --> 00:18:12
			majority of us, we don't have that same dedication to the Sunnah of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi
wasallam most of us won't even know what sadhana means. If someone was to ask you define something
for me what is the Sunnah? Most of us probably want to know we probably point to a book of Medina
and say that's, that's the Sunnah. Most of us wouldn't know how to define the Sunnah, let alone
having studied the sooner or studied parts of the Sunnah. And one of the things that I wanted to
focus on inshallah, in the in the second part of this lecture, is there are groups out there and
people out there who say that you don't even need the sun now that the sun has no validity, it has

00:18:12 --> 00:18:52
			no importance. And for us as Muslims, we need to know how to respond to that as well. So we need to
know Firstly, the importance of the Sunnah its legal status in Islam, and then we also need to know
how to respond to those people to answer those allegations that say that there is no need for the
Sunnah. So the first thing that I want to do is define the sooner for you. The Sunnah in the Arabic
language linguistically, it means a path or a way. And this is mentioned over and over in the in the
Hadith of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam where he uses the term Sumner in the linguistic
sense and one of those a hadith the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam was addressing the

00:18:52 --> 00:19:33
			companions and us as well. And he said that you will follow them that Tiburon, no sooner Montana
problem, you will follow the ways and the paths of those who came before you, meaning the people of
the Scriptures, the Jews and the Christians, you will follow them hand span by hand span, foot span
by foot span. So the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam mentioned the word Suna in this hadith in
the linguistic sense that you will follow the practices and the ways of those people who came before
you. Likewise Allah subhanho wa Taala in the Quran he also mentioned this in a linguistic sense when
he says Sonata Allah He filled levina Holloman cobble, this is the established practice the way of

00:19:33 --> 00:19:45
			Allah azza wa jal when it came to those who came before you, those who passed away before us to
previous nations, when we look at it islamically in the Islamic sense, what does the Sunnah mean?

00:19:46 --> 00:19:59
			Now the Sunnah has a number of definitions, depending on how you're studying it, depending on which
science and which field you're studying it from. So for example, when you study it from a Hadeeth
perspective, the sooner

00:20:00 --> 00:20:40
			Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam includes five things. It includes the sayings, the actions, the
approvals of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, his physical description, and his character.
These five things the same as the actions, approvals, physical description and character of the
Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. All of this is the Sunnah. So when you pick up saya, Bihari or
Sahih, Muslim or any book of Hadith, everything within the book of Hadith, will fall under one of
these five categories. And again, obviously, this is a different lecture in and of itself, how to
study Hadith from the Sunnah from a Hadeeth perspective. Another way you can define the sooner is

00:20:40 --> 00:20:48
			from the fear key or legal point of view, or Islamic jurisprudence, how you can define sooner from
this point of view.

00:20:49 --> 00:21:31
			The Sunnah, in terms of faith is very simple. It's anything which is not obligatory, but if you
perform it, you are still rewarded. However, if you leave it, you will not be punished for it. So
it's something which isn't obligatory. However, if you perform it, you will be rewarded for it. So
for example, a simple example of this would be the two records that you would pray before for sure,
this is a sauna. So if you were to prefer to perform these two records, it is a strongly, highly
recommended sooner, and you will be rewarded for this. However, if you were to leave it, then you
will not be punished. And this is the definition of the summoner. In fact, what we're talking about

00:21:31 --> 00:22:11
			here in this series of lectures, we're not talking about the Sunnah, from the Hadith point of view.
nor are we talking about the Sunnah, from the point of view. We're talking about Sunnah from the
Athena point of view. So this is why when you have like, we have these four lecture titles, we have
towhid, and sharp and soon and better. And in this context, it's an RP, the point of view. And so
now in this regard, a means everything that a Muslim should believe everything that the Prophet
sallallahu alayhi wasallam mentioned that a Muslim should believe. And this is why you find for
example, that Mr. Muhammad Rahim Allah, Allah, he has a famous book on our appeal. And he called it

00:22:11 --> 00:22:36
			a solo Sunnah, the principles of the Sunnah. And what he meant by Sunni in this regard is the belief
system of a Muslim everything that he should believe. And in this sense, it is the opposite to beta.
So beta is anything which is innovated anything which the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam didn't
bring. And the sooner is the opposite anything which the prophets are seldom established in terms of
our belief, and this is what we're referring to in this lecture today.

00:22:38 --> 00:22:43
			One of the other things that we need to do is know the status of the Sunnah. What is the status of
the summoner in Islam,

00:22:44 --> 00:23:23
			you will find that there are a number of opinions over this. However, the majority of scholars and
the strongest of opinions is that the Sunnah is equal it is equivalent in weight to the Quran. So no
doubt the Quran is more blessing. So you recite the Quran for blessing, you can swear by the words
of Allah subhanho wa Taala the Quran is a more blessed book you are rewarded just for simply
reciting it. However, in terms of its legal weight, in terms of how you follow it, in terms of
taking verdicts from it, in terms of applying it to your life, the Quran and the Sunnah, are
equivalent in white. And there are many reasons for this and many proofs for this. And when you know

00:23:23 --> 00:23:55
			the proofs for the legal status of the sooner it will be very easy for you to overcome and answer
anyone who comes to you and says that the sooner is not legally binding upon him, you don't need to
follow the sooner the Quran is sufficient, as long as you stick to what's in the Quran. And this is
something which you hear all the time now, people will come and they will say, you know, you don't
need to do this because it's not mentioned in the Quran when the Quran doesn't say that you have to
pay like this where in the Quran is to say that you have to act like this or you have to dress like
this. And so they will say, if it's not in the Quran, you don't need to do it. And what they're

00:23:55 --> 00:24:36
			saying or implying is that you don't need to look at the Sunnah of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi
wasallam so it is important to know the legal status of the Sunnah. And that which Allah azza wa jal
has mentioned as being proved for the legality of the Sunnah. from them is that Allah subhanho wa
Taala. If you were to look and study in the Quran, one of the things that we will notice is that
Allah subhanho wa Taala mentions that the prophets are infallible, that the prophets are infallible.
For example, He says about our Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam in Surah, two najem wama Yom
Kippur, Anil Hawa in Hawaii, knew how he doesn't speak from his own desires. He only realized that

00:24:36 --> 00:24:59
			which is revelation, which has been sent down to him. So throughout the command, Allah subhanho wa
Taala mentions that the prophets are infallible. The prophets don't make mistakes they don't commit
major sins and anything which they say anything which they relay is taken from Allah subhanho wa
Taala. So Allah azza wa jal is indirectly saying to us, that everything which the Prophet sallallahu
alayhi

00:25:00 --> 00:25:40
			selam brings to you everything which he commands you to do everything which he prohibits you from.
It is from Allah subhanho wa Taala is equivalent to the Quran. So if the prophet SAW Selim doesn't
speak from his desires, it doesn't just relate to the Quran, it will relate to everything which he
mentioned. Another proof for this is if you look at the actual reason why Allah subhanho wa Taala
sent the prophet in the first place. One of the major reasons for sending the prophets is so that he
they could provide for us a practical example of how to apply this religion. So as Allah subhanho wa
Taala mentions in the Quran, when the disbelievers came to the prophet or Solomon they said Why

00:25:40 --> 00:26:19
			doesn't allow us and and angels upon us? Why is it that we just have to follow the prophet or why
why is it that a man is a prophet? Why do you know large the angel send down the angels? So the
prophet SAW Allah azza wa jal responded in the Quran and he said, Hello, can I feel all the Mullah
eager to you? I'm sure not my inane, then azana Allah him in a sama, Imola Corolla. If the people on
earth were angels, then the prophets that was sent to them would also be angels. But because the
people on the earth are human, it only makes sense that the profits that are sent to them are also
human. Why? Because otherwise, you will have people who will inevitably say that these messengers

00:26:19 --> 00:26:58
			are angels, they're not like us, so we don't have to follow them. They don't understand us, they
will special, they're better, they're more powerful, they have different qualities. And so they
would take this way to escape from the obligations of Islam. So from the wisdom of Allah is that he
sent down messengers were human, and so part of that is that they can be a practical example for us.
And they can't be a practical example for us. If we then don't follow them and take them as role
models. And this is why last panel with the Allah mentions, Lacan, Candela comfy rasulillah, he was
spot on, Hassan, you have in the Messenger of Allah, a great companion or a great role model for

00:26:58 --> 00:27:06
			you. So the whole point is to go and take the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam as a role model
and to emulate him.

00:27:07 --> 00:27:47
			Another thing which you will see that also proves the legality of the Sunnah is when we look at the
lives of the companions of the Allah and when we will find that they would think that following the
Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam was an obligation upon some. So the companions would always obey
the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, no matter what. And they would always say submit in our
banner, we hear and we obey. And this was if you like their motto, this was the way the companions
were the Allahumma so when the companions when the Allahu anhu would consider it a duty to obey the
Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, you can only obey the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, once

00:27:47 --> 00:27:50
			you go back to his Sunnah and you study his Sunnah.

00:27:51 --> 00:28:32
			Another legal proof that you can also have is that Allah azza wa jal over and over again in the
Quran, he mentions and orders us to follow the Prophet sallallahu Allah He was telling them over and
over again in the Quran, like diversity Imam Shafi mentioned to that woman and there are many other
verses bollati la hora Sol say obey Allah and His Messenger, and there are so many more. The most
explicit of these perhaps is the verse of the Quran where Allah azza wa jal says, follow up because
we know nahata Yaki macafee Masha Jeremy known from Malaya jiofi, unfussy him how long Jemima pata
Will you sell limitus Lima by Allah Allah azza wa jal swears by himself, that the people will not

00:28:32 --> 00:28:57
			believe until they take the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam as a judge in all of their affairs.
And they have no ill feelings in their hearts towards his judgment, and they submit completely to
his judgment. And the only way that you can submit to His judgment, the only way that you can
appoint him as a judge after his life is by going back to his sooner and going back to the Hadith of
the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.

00:28:58 --> 00:29:38
			Likewise, we also see that the Quran, Allah azza wa jal mentions to us that the Prophet sallallahu
alayhi wa sallam explained the Quran to us, once in a can vikhroli to be unilin nassima mozila illa
him, we will reveal to you the reminder the Quran, so that we may clarify its meanings for the
people. So the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam one of his primary roles was to explain the Quran
was to give it meaning was to practically show how it is to be implemented. And this is why even
from a common sense point of view, it only makes sense that you follow the Sunnah of the Prophet
sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. Otherwise how would you know how to pray? nowhere in the Quran does it

00:29:38 --> 00:29:59
			tell you exactly how to pray from beginning to end? nowhere in the Quran does it tell you how to
exactly get nowhere in the Quran does it tell you how to exactly perform hajj and umrah and so many
other things are not mentioned within the Quran in vivid detail. There are only ordered the
obligation is given there. The commandments are given, but the detail is found within the Sunnah of
the prophet

00:30:00 --> 00:30:19
			Allah when Allah He will sell them. And so it is imperative even from a logical, common sense point
of view. You need to go back to this in order to follow the Sunnah of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi
wa sallam, because that's the only way that you can explain the Quran and it's the only way that you
can achieve salvation from Allah subhanho wa Taala

00:30:20 --> 00:30:59
			and there are many other proofs as well and I don't want to go into too many but there are like
numerous proofs. And obviously another one of them is h Ma. The consensus of the whole oma the whole
oma has agreed that the the Sunnah of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam needs to be followed.
So this is something which obviously, is very important. One of the things that we see is that the
Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam encouraged the preservation of his Sunnah. So the Prophet
sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, during his time, would encourage his companions to memorize his verses
to memorize his words, and to relate them. So we've all heard of the famous Hadith of the Prophet

00:30:59 --> 00:31:37
			sallallahu, Alayhi, wa sallam, ballyhoo and he will convey for me even if there is a single verse.
So the prophet SAW Sanam was always encouraging his companions to memorize a hadith and to relate
them to others. From one of these examples, one of these examples that you can give is that there
was a group who came from Yemen, on the day of the conquest of Mecca, and they came to Yemen and
they heard a part of the hook, but they missed a part of the sermon, and they heard a part of the
sermon that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam gave on that day. So afterwards, they came to the
Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, and they said, O Messenger of Allah, we missed part of your

00:31:37 --> 00:32:14
			sermon, and we heard part of it. So we want you to write it down for us to record it and preserve
it, so that we can take it back with us to Yemen. So the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said to
them, go to my companions, and say to them, that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam has ordered
you to write down my sermon, to write down my sermon and to give it to us. So this was something
which the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam encouraged, encouraged people to memorize the Sunnah
to relate verbally, and at the same time to also memorize the sooner to write it down to record it,
and to pass it on to further generations.

00:32:15 --> 00:32:55
			And this is why you find that within the first 100 years, one of the things that happened in Islam
in the first 100 years, is that the scholars began to gather all of the works of the scholars, all
of the Hadith of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, and combine them together and record them.
And even though the first major works of Hadith are like 150 to 200 years afterwards, EMA, Malik and
others, but even within that first century, people already were beginning to write. So you have the
famous student of Abu huraira rhodiola one Hammadi Binney Manabe, who is who's actually compiling
all of the Hadith that he hears from Abu huraira or the Allah one, or you have others. For example,

00:32:55 --> 00:33:16
			during the time of Amara Rahim, Allah tala, roughly in the year 99. History, he orders a madman so
free to compile all of the ahaadeeth that he can gather of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam
and to gather them together and to compile them in one place, so that he could use them and he could
send them to the other governors and to the other scholars throughout the Muslim Empire.

00:33:18 --> 00:33:20
			One of the other things that we find when we study the sauna

00:33:21 --> 00:33:26
			and this is a point which unfortunately is becoming very, very common

00:33:27 --> 00:34:04
			is there are groups out there who reject the validity of the sauna. So you will find people who are
either orientalist, so even groups who claim to be Muslims, known as the poor only you and the
people who only follow the Quran, who will say that you don't need to go back to the Sunnah, and
they say the sooner was not preserved. The sooner was not preserved after the death of the Prophet
sallallahu alayhi wasallam and the first recording of the Sunnah is like 150 years afterwards,
during the time of Imam Malik, therefore, the Sundar has no validity. It has no legal status. And
you will find these people they will bring proofs from the Quran and they will be improved from the

00:34:04 --> 00:34:41
			Sunnah and they will mention this so as to confuse people. So what I want to do is go over some of
these proofs because they will use verses of the Quran and the will to stay meanings and they will
use them to say that you don't need to know the Sunnah. So if you're not aware of these verses, if
you haven't studied these verses, if you don't know the correct context of these verses, then you
may very well thing that they have a point or at the very least you won't be able to respond and
answer the allegations. One of the verses that they use to support their opinion or their position
is from Surah. Al anon verse 38. That Allah subhanho wa Taala says ma for rapa, nerfing Kitab

00:34:41 --> 00:34:59
			himanshi we have not emitted anything from the Quran. We have not left anything out from the Quran.
And this is famous story. This is like a side point. This is famous story regarding this verse, that
there was a scholar, a Muslim scholar and a Christian scholar and they went to a restaurant to eat

00:35:01 --> 00:35:24
			And they were having a debate at this restaurant. And the questions caller was saying to the Muslim
scholar it says in your book ma for open fl kitabi ministry, nothing has been left out or omitted
from the Quran. You claim that everything that you can everything possible is found within the Quran
and the questions caller was saying logically It doesn't make sense how can you have everything
within the Quran?

00:35:25 --> 00:35:29
			So the Muslim scholar said Okay, give me an example what country find in the Quran.

00:35:30 --> 00:36:04
			So the Christian scholar said to him, or just from the top of his head, he said, for example, what
we're eating now, when the Quran doesn't say, what the recipe is for this meal, how you cook this
meal, how to prepare this meal, when the or if nothing is emitted from the Quran. Give me the verse
of the Quran that tells you how we cook this like biryani, whatever it was that they were having. So
the Muslim scholar, as we're having a look at how like if a person has a connection with the Quran,
he has a connection with the sooner than Allah as the wizard will always assist him and he will
never be defeated. But if he's if he doesn't have that connection with the Quran and Sunnah most of

00:36:04 --> 00:36:17
			us what would we have done at this stage? You can't say anything about this verse. Because the verse
is clear, nothing is omitted from the book. And at the same time, you don't know how to answer and
you don't know how to respond. So the scholar said,

00:36:18 --> 00:36:55
			he said, called the chef. So he called the chef. And he said to the chef, how did you prepare this
meal? What are the ingredients? How did you prepare it? So the chef went on for like five minutes
and he told him how everything was done. And then he left and the Muslims kind of said, there you
go, you have your answer. So the Christian scholar said, No, I asked you to do it from the Quran. I
could have called the chef over. I asked you to do it from the Quran. So he replied, our Quran says
to us, first Allahu Allah decree in quantum law tala mode, ask the people of knowledge, if you have
no knowledge, if you don't know. And in this field, he is the person of knowledge. He's the scholar,

00:36:55 --> 00:37:31
			and this is what I will call on orders to do. Anyway, the side point being from that, that they will
use this verse for the very same reason and these are Muslims or people who claim to be Muslims,
they will use the same verse against the Muslims saying that the Sunnah has no validity. Allah azza
wa jal says everything's within the Quran. You don't need to follow the Sunnah. The answer to this
is that the context of this verse has been misconstrued by these people. If you were to look at this
context of this first surah, Al anon verse 38. Allah azza wa jal is speaking about the universe. And
he's speaking he says, I'm I'm in debate in Florida.

00:37:33 --> 00:37:34
			At Ruby Jana havilah.

00:37:35 --> 00:38:16
			There is not a single animal upon the earth, nor is there a single bird flying in the sky, except
that Allah azza wa jal has bought nation similar to them. In the past, there are many species many
creatures that are similar to them, ma for Ratan are filled Kitab himanshi nothing has been omitted
from the book. And if you want to go back to the works of FCM Allah azza wa jal is speaking about
the universe and its creation. And the books that he is referring to here is the low fodmap food,
the preserved tablet that Allah azza wa jal has with himself and not the Quran. So for example, if
you go to the serum Portobello Bhargavi, the scholars that have seen has say that this book is not

00:38:16 --> 00:38:55
			mentioning is not referring to the Quran, it was referring to the preserve tablet, and we know the
famous Hadith of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam that 50,000 years before the creation of
mankind, Allah azza wa jal created the pen and he said to the pen, right? So the pen asked Allah and
what should I write? So Allah azza wa jal replied right white everything that will take place until
your movie Yama. So everything that took place, everything that happens is preserved within this low
for my fault, this preserved tablet with which is with Allah subhanho wa Taala. And this is what is
being referred to within this first. So when they mentioned this verse, They using it to refer to

00:38:55 --> 00:39:01
			the Quran, whereas in reality, it doesn't even refer to the Quran and if you look at the context of
the verse, you will find this.

00:39:02 --> 00:39:39
			Another thing which they mentioned, is they mentioned another verse of the Quran in surah two, verse
number 89. What Allah azza wa jal says, one is Allah Allah can kita but the beyond only coalition
and we have revealed to you the book as a clarification for everything we have revealed to you the
book as a clarification for everything. So they will say that the Quran is a clarification for
everything Everything was in is within the Quran. Allah azza wa jal is saying the Quran is a
clarification for everything, therefore you don't need the sooner. Allah azza wa jal himself is
saying you don't need the Sunnah he's saying that the Quran is the clarification for everything.

00:39:40 --> 00:39:59
			However, the answer to this is that the mistake that these people have fallen into is the same
mistake that the Jews and Christians also fall into, in the sense that we are taking one verse of
the Quran and ignoring all of the other 1000s of verses which are contained within the Quran, and
the single strongest refutation that you can give the single strongest

00:40:00 --> 00:40:34
			proof that you can give against this is that within the Quran Allah azza wa jal orders us to follow
the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. So when Allah azza wa jal says within the Quran, there is a
clarification for everything. Part of that clarification is that Allah azzawajal orders us to go
back to the prophets of Salaam to follow Him and to obey Him. And that means that we go back to his
son. So their own, the own versus that they bring in every verse that they will bring will be
similar to this it will be similar but the Quran and Allah clarifies everything how everything is
contained within the Quran. And the way you can use these verses against them because there are

00:40:34 --> 00:40:44
			proofs against them is that you can mention how the Quran is actually approved against them because
it orders us to go back to the Sunnah of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.

00:40:45 --> 00:41:12
			They also mentioned a number of Hadith. So they will bring a number of a hadith some of them are
weak and some of them are authentic, and they will use them again they will misconstrued the
meanings and they will use them to show or to prove in their in their view that the sooner has no
legal status in Islam. from them, is the Hadith of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam found in
Sahih al Bukhari, on the authority of herbal sorry than hodari or the Allahu anhu

00:41:13 --> 00:41:46
			were the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam ordered his companions to not write. He said to his
companions do not write from me and anyone who has written anything other than the Quran, then let
him erase it, let him get rid of it. And this isn't Sahil. Bihari is obviously an authentic hadith,
this hadith in Sahih al Bukhari in which the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam is ordering his
companions not tried anything other than the Quran. The scholars of Islam have mentioned that there
are a number of interpretations for this.

00:41:47 --> 00:42:23
			The first one is that this hadith was abrogated. This Hadith was at the beginning of Islam, and the
reason why the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said this was he didn't want people to confuse
the Koran with his statements. And because the people who knew in Islam, the Eman was too weak. He
didn't want them to confuse the two together. So he wanted to keep the Quran separate. And he wanted
to keep the Sooners separate so he ordered them to not write from the Sunnah, but this was later
abrogated. For example, the highlighter I mentioned when the people from Yemen came, and the
prophets of Salaam order that they write for them. So this was abrogated later on in Islam. Another

00:42:23 --> 00:42:57
			explanation for this Hadeeth is that this hadith was specifically for a small group of people. And
that small group of people were the scribes of the Quran, the people whose duty it was to write the
Quran down. So the prophets of Solomon revelation would come to him, he would recite it to a select
few companions, and those companions would write it down on leather on tree bark, and moreover, they
will write this down to preserve the Quran. So the prophets of Salaam would say to them only right
and down, don't write the Sunnah to those select people so that the two will not be confused.
Another explanation for this

00:42:58 --> 00:43:33
			is that this is something which is a general thing. There is generally a prohibition at that time
obviously we're talking about it was a general prohibition for the new Muslims that entered into
Islam, or for those people who didn't have much knowledge of Islam to write down from the Sunnah of
the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam ordered them not right, so that they're not confused between
the Quran and the Sunnah, and there is no confusion between the two. However, the Prophet sallallahu
alayhi wa sallam allowed people to write from the Sunnah, and there are many, many instances of
this. The most famous of them is Abdullah in the family been on earth for the long run. He was one

00:43:33 --> 00:44:13
			of the companions who also narrated many a hadith from the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, Abu
hurayrah, the Allahu anhu would say, no one has narrated more Hadith than me, except for Abdullah,
and I'm not even an ask, because he used to write and I never used to write, I used to memorize, but
he used to write, I'm delighted now I'm going to build a house. He used to write and everything he
heard from the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam. And then one day someone came to him and he said,
Oh, Abdullah, why do you write down everything the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam says, he's
only human. And so sometimes he is very happy, and sometimes he is very angry. So when he is in

00:44:13 --> 00:44:51
			extreme happiness, or extreme sadness, or extreme anger, he may say something which he did not mean.
He may say something, which was incorrect. He may say something which he didn't want to be taken as
part of Asana, so don't write everything down. So I'm delighted that Upon hearing this, he became
confused and he didn't know what to do. So he stopped writing. And he went to the Prophet sallallahu
alayhi wa sallam, and he mentioned this to him, that this is what that man said. So what do you say?
So the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said to him, by the one who has sent me with the truth,
write down everything that you hear, because anything which comes out from my lips will only be the

00:44:51 --> 00:44:59
			truth. So the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said to him, write down everything you hear,
because I only speak the truth. So

00:45:00 --> 00:45:05
			Again, this hadith is very limited in its context, another Hadith that they use and we shall
conclude with this

00:45:06 --> 00:45:10
			does a hadith that they use a week so they will use a hadith

00:45:11 --> 00:45:49
			by Abu rosae dibny therby to others, where the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam is reported to
have said, that do not write down and you're hiding from me. And another narrations, whoever has
written down anything, let him gather it and burn it. And they have many other narrations, but all
of these are weak ahaadeeth all of these are weak narrations. The only authentic narration they have
is the hadith of Imam Al Bukhari that I mentioned to you on the 33 rhodiola one. So this is like a
brief summary if you like of the Sunnah of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam his legal status
in Islam, those people who reject it and how to respond to the allegations. In conclusion, it is

00:45:49 --> 00:46:28
			very important for each and every single person to study the Sunnah. You will find many people they
will be busy with with studying other things and I remember once we I was listening to a q&a session
with Chef bimbos Rahim Allahu taala. And he was asked this question that people normally focus on
different sciences. So some people when they're studying Islam they focus on some people will study
and they will focus on the Arabic language. And some people will study and they will focus on the
Quran, and some people will study and they will focus on Hadith. So what do we do? So he replied,
that you should always focus on the Quran and the Sunnah first and foremost, because anything that

00:46:28 --> 00:47:04
			you study, whether it is fake, whether it's Arabic language, whatever it is, everything will go back
to the Quran and the Sunnah, and this is the beauty of our religion, everything goes back to these
two sources, the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. So he
said, you always find you always start off with this. So we need to go back to the Sunnah, and we
need to begin to study with it. Now some practical tips on this where I would recommend for each and
every single person if you haven't already done so, the most easiest way to start off practically
learning the Sunnah of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam studying it. And beginning to start

00:47:04 --> 00:47:40
			with this is you go back to the small compilations of Hadeeth. And probably the most famous and the
best one of these compilations is the 40 Hadees. I remember knowing a lot but no nowhere. And I
think everyone said everyone's probably got this book in their house. But many of us even though we
will probably read these ahaadeeth we don't really understand them. And from these, what you had is
just from these 40 Hadith, you can gain so much and you can learn so much about the Sunnah of the
Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, because imama now when we when he gathered these 40 Hadith, he
gathered 42 Hadith which he considered to hold the whole foundations of the religion, the

00:47:40 --> 00:48:18
			foundations of the religion, whether it comes to matters of worship, matters of transactions,
dealings, law, any, any type of field of Islam, everything, all of the foundations, he gathered them
together, in 42, very short, very beautiful Hadith. And he gathered them together. And he himself
said at the beginning, his introduction, that these are the foundations of the sun. These are the
foundations of the religion of Islam. And that's why you ever heard it in there that the scholars
have said, is equivalent to a third of the religion, or half of the religion, or more or less, every
single action will go back to this hadith. So this is an excellent starting point. And there are so

00:48:18 --> 00:48:53
			many different books that you can get explanations, either audio and CD books that you can get that
will explain these 40 Hadith to you. And even a few years ago in my first series of lectures in this
machine, I did an explanation of these 40 Hadith as well. So my advice to each and every single
person would be to go back and start off with this is very small, it wouldn't even take him wait for
more than a few weeks to finish. But it would be an excellent starting point for you to begin with
your connection to the Sunnah of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, and from there you can
belong, how they will lower animals on a lower center and Amina Mohammed early he will certainly
