and to have. And so this is something that I want to touch upon today because it is something especially for the younger members of our congregation, but even for many of us that we find is so common and prevalent people using social media, but the way that we use it, sometimes we don't instill the same values and ethics and morals and the same character that we as Muslims should have to this medium of communication. Allah subhanho wa Taala in the Quran, and the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam in the sun. They gave us general principles, and from amongst the most general principles, and I will mention to you briefly today, five principles with regards to social media
and the way that we should act when it comes to typing and writing. We don't understand or appreciate that he may harm someone that we may be spreading a lie or a false rumor. The fourth principle that we need to understand with regards to this is that social media is what it says on the tin. Social media is a way of communication. It is not a place of seeking Islamic knowledge. It is not a place of fatwa, there's not a place of Islamic debate, because one of the problems that we have now, and this is also one of the wider issues that we as an oma are facing is
that people are using the internet to tell people and to show them through Facebook posts that just have a few words. They consider it to be a means of seeking Islamic knowledge. Facebook and Twitter have their place. They're good for reminders, the good for inspirational quotes, they have their place for the odd question and the odd issue that the Muslims are facing. But you don't become a student of knowledge or a scholar in this religion by studying Facebook and Twitter, by following certain individuals, even if they are scholars and chefs. It has its place and it has its role. But we must understand that to think that Facebook is a place where we can go and stop debating the
minutiae of Islam. person may sin, and they may sin in the privacy of their own home, or in their own room at home, and no one else knows. But then they will mention openly and they will boast about their sins with their friends on Facebook and Twitter and these other outlets. They will take photos and they will post them on Instagram. And this is extremely dangerous. It is bad enough that we sin in the first place but the way that a person sins between themselves and Allah is that then they show remorse and they repent to Allah azza wa jal hoping that Allah subhana wa Taala will conceal the evil deeds, he will not expose them, but to expose it yourself. It is more of an aggression in the sight of Allah

how to interact with everything that we faced within our lives. It is upon us to take those principles and apply them to the situations that we face as Allah subhana wa Tada.
