The transcript describes a cluster of surahs in the Qal effort, which is a recitation of Surah Al-Kahf and a message about building civilizations and civilizations. The cluster is a part of life where routine and familiarity is common, and the surah is a reminder of our relationship with Allah subhanahu wa waarala. The importance of the relationship between the speaker and Him subhanahu wa waasala is discussed, as well as the struggles people face in finding the right person to assuring them of their faith. The transcript also touches on the meaning behind "has" in the Bible and how it relates to actions of worship, as well as the difficulties of life and misfortfortfortana.

Today I'll talk about Surah Al-Sajdah, which
is the last surah in the fifth clusters
of surahs in the Qur'an, spanning from
Al-Qasas to Al-Sajdah.
This cluster is special to me, it talks
about relationships.
I think relationships are probably the most important
things in the world.
I don't think that as human beings anything
is of any value without relationships, and that
the most valuable thing that we actually possess
in life are the relationships that we have.
They define us in so many different ways,
and so each surah of this cluster talked
about our relationship with different things, and at
the end, inshallah, I'll kind of remind you
of all that.
Surah Al-Sajdah is extremely, I actually did
a full tafsir of it, I want to
say last year, but it could be the
year before, during Ramadan in the weekend mornings
after fajr.
We went through Surah Al-Sajdah, I'm not
sure which year it was though.
And Surah Al-Sajdah talks about the relationship
we have with Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala,
which is a very convenient relationship to talk
about at the end of this cluster, I
guess.
And Surah Al-Sajdah is a surah that
we recite every fajr on the day of,
on Friday, on Jumu'ah, and I find
that interesting because Jumu'ah is such an
important day for us as Muslims.
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala asks us to
put in the extra effort to remind ourselves
of our deen, remind ourselves of our congregation,
remind ourselves of what we're here to do.
So he has us read Surah Al-Kahf
in the middle of the day that talks
about, as you remember, as you recall from
the previous cluster of carrying the message, it
talks about carrying the message through building our
societies and building our civilizations and the components
that you need in order to do that.
And there's Khutbah Al-Jumu'ah in the
middle of the day that serves as a
reminder and an aspect of leadership for us.
And in the morning after fajr, he asks
us to read Surah Al-Sajdah that reminds
us at the beginning of the day of
our relationship that we have with him.
You see, all relationships can become boring, so
to say.
It's a part of life where there's a
certain amount of familiarity or routine that enters
a relationship that kind of makes it less
exciting.
And you probably know what I'm talking about.
If you're married, this happens to married people
all the time, after a year or two,
you have to put in effort to keep
the spark alive.
I'm pretty sure you can imagine or you
can think of a shaykh or a da
'ia or a speaker that you once, you
know, were always moved by what they said.
And today, you know, if you come by
something they're talking about, you may as well
just move on.
You're not as moved as much.
A qar of the Qur'an that you
used to really enjoy listening to, and today
it's kind of, you know, it's not the
same.
This happens to us and our relationships become,
you know, routine-based and familiar and just
frankly boring.
And what Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala does
in Surat al-Sajdah is that He sparks
that relationship yet again between us and Him
subhanahu wa ta'ala, which is why I
think it's such a beautiful surah to actually
talk about.
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
says
in Surat al-Sajdah, What
is the nature of the relationship that we
have with Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala?
It is khudu'a.
It is submission.
It is sadallul.
It is a level of humility that is
different than you would have with people.
It's where we fully understand who He is
to us subhanahu wa ta'ala, who we
are to Him jalla jalaluhu.
And the surah begins by talking about two
aspects.
It talks about the Book and it talks
about Yawm al-Qiyamah.
The beginning of the first page of the
surah is just talking issues of theology.
And it focuses on two aspects of that
theology.
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
indeed has descended the Book.
There's no doubt in that Book from Him,
the Lord of the Universe.
Are they saying that this has been made
up?
Indeed it is the truth
from your Lord to warn people who have
never been warned before.
May they find guidance.
And then the other part of the argument
in that page talks about
And they say, you're telling us
that once we die and we dissolve into
the earth and nothing is left of our
bodies that we're going to be resurrected and
created yet again?
The problem with them is that they don't
believe that they will meet Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala Tell them, the angel of death
will take your souls when the time comes
and you'll be returned to your Lord again
Why is it that Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala talks about the book and resurrection?
I want you to listen, it's important because
it's a beautiful, beautiful aspect of why He's
talking about our relationship with Him subhanahu wa
ta'ala What do we need to have
a relationship?
You need to have communication and you need
to have a meeting And what is His
book subhanahu wa ta'ala besides Him communicating
to us?
And what is resurrection besides the day that
we will finally meet Him subhanahu wa ta
'ala?
So when He's talking about our relationship with
Him not only is He focusing on the
two aspects of Iman that are the most
difficult for people to believe in Meaning the
kuffar of Quraysh, they believed in Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala They just didn't believe in
those two aspects They just didn't believe in
the Qur'an and they didn't believe they
were going to be resurrected But they believed
in God Many verses in the Qur'an
echo that Quraysh, they all descended from Ismail
a.s. ibn Ibrahim They believed in God
They just didn't believe that they were going
to be resurrected and they didn't believe that
the Qur'an that the Prophet a.s.
brought was actually Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala's
word So yes, the two aspects that people
struggle with the most in terms of their
faith But really what these two things are
are Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and His
effort or His actions in initiating His relationship
with us Here I'm communicating with you and
here is the day that we will finally
meet And that's how you have a relationship
You need to communicate and you need to
meet the person And in our case, meet
the one and only Jalla Jalaluhu So that's
the first part of the surah The first
part of the surah talks about religious issues
In the first page Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala discusses a group of religious issues And
Jalla Jalaluhu focuses in the beginning of the
surah on two issues of different faiths He
focuses on the subject of the book and
the subject of resurrection He says in the
first part of the surah Arabic

When you continue in the surah you find
him saying subhanahu wa ta'ala وَلَوْ تَرَى
And if
you can only see on the Day of
Judgment, the word مجرمون means criminals, but Islamically
what it means are those who broke the
laws of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and
were not interested in following any of His
laws, which means basically they had no relationship
with Him.
Their heads are held low in
shame and humility and embarrassment as they stand
in front of their Lord saying, Our Lord,
now we've seen, now we've heard.
Send us back and we will act much
better and we will show certainty.
And Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says, If
I wanted, I would have forced everyone to
be guided.
He would have forced everyone to be guided,
but where is this test in that?
Where is the trial in that?
Where is your effort in initiating your relationship
with Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala?
He initiated His relationship with you.
He sent you communication through the book and
He told you you're going to meet Him.
So the relationship from His side has been
initiated.
But if you're forced to initiate it, it's
not really in a relationship when you're forced,
is it?
If you wanted, He
would have forced everyone to be guided.
But that's really not a relationship when you're
forced to communicate and you're forced to listen
and you're forced to meet.
It has to be something that you want
as well.
And that's why the ayat kind of bring
that up that this has to be your
choice.
You have to choose this.
Now, if you don't choose it, you're going
to run into trouble.
But if you do, there's a lot of
khair waiting for you.
The following ayat say,
The criminal, in the legal sense,
has a certain meaning.
But in the religious sense, it refers to
those who do not follow the command of
Allah and do not follow the path of
Allah.
This is the criminal.
Now we have
certainty.
and then the beautiful parts of the surah
the surah the sajda obviously the prostration that's
what it's called it has within it a
sajda tilawa there's a verse when you read
you have to make sujood or you should
make sujood for the most part for different
madhab it's sunnah some madhab carry it at
a higher level but for the majority it's
sunnah if you don't do it it's not
a problem so it's encouraged that you make
sujood in the midst of this ayah and
when he says subhanahu wa ta'ala إِنَّمَا
the people who actually believe in our signs
are the ones who once they are reminded
of our signs they fall in prostration whether
they do it physically or they do it
morally inside their hearts see sujood means physically
it's prostration but what it means morally is
for us to be in full humility and
in full submission to Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala وَسَبَّحُوا بِحَمْدِ رَبِّهِمْ and they praise Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala continuing to exalt Him
وَهُمْ لَا يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ and there is no arrogance
in their hearts full humility as I said
and then he says
the word تَتَجَافَ doesn't exist in the Quran
anywhere else besides right here in sujood as
-sajdah and what it means is that this
is a figure of speech
الْمَضَاجِعَ جُنُوبُهُمْ is their sides المضاجع are their
beds تَتَجَافَ جُنُوبُهُمْ it's like their sides just
can't seem to sit still in the bed
they can't seem to sit still why?
because they can't wait to get up and
go and make wudu and pray and spend
time with their lord
you can almost see them they're lying there
but they're so excited they don't want to
lie they don't want to sleep they can't
wait until it's night so they can get
up and they can stand and they can
pray and they can draw themselves closer to
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
وَطَمَعًا and they supplicate their lord with a
heart filled with optimism and a heart filled
with reverence وَمِمَّا رَزَقْنَاهُمْ يُنفِقُونَ on the same
note they're also following Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala's commands by giving zakah you see giving
zakah is an example in the Quran أَقِمُ
الصَّلَاةِ وَآتِي الزَّكَاةِ these are not the only
two things we're supposed to do even though
the Quran is filled with them they are
the symbols of the two types of acts
of worship we do salah symbolizes the acts
of worship that are personal between us and
Him subhanahu wa ta'ala between us and
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala there's no one
else who's involved meaning dhikr and tasbih and
qiraat Quran and prayers and qiyam al-layl
and these things and ita is a symbol
for the acts of worship that benefit other
people that are out there
الضعيف وبر الوالدين وصلة الرحم all the actions
where you're worshipping Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
and serving Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala but
you're doing it through helping people or doing
something for people that's why
symbolizes that they're actually fulfilling the rest of
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala's commands
course the surah is called Al-Sajdah and
Al-Sajdah is a symbol of humility and
submission to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and
submission to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala so
Al-Sajdah is present in these verses when
Allah says إِنَّمَا يُؤْمِنُ بِآيَاتِنَا those who truly
believe in our verses
بِهَا خَرُّوا سُجَّدًا whether it was whether the
fall was a prostration to the state of
prostration is a practical matter or it's something
that happens in the heart to prostrate to
the heart to be humble and submissive to
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala both meanings are
الْكِبْرِ there is no arrogance how can a
person be arrogant when he is humble and
submissive to Allah and then he is arrogant
about the creation of Allah both meanings do
not coincide in the heart of one person
either he is arrogant and the meanings of
prostration and submission and submission to Allah or
his heart is full of submission and humbleness
to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala so he
is humble with people then he says تَتَجَافَ
جُنُوبُهُمْ عَنِ الْمَضَاجِعِ and this is a unique
Quranic composition and we don't find it other
than Surah Al-Sajdah so it is a
unique composition of this surah
الْمَضَاجِعِ as if your two sides don't want
to stay in the bed like a child
who can't sit in his chair excited about
fun or play so these two sides don't
want to stay in the bed why?
so it is arrogance whenever you try to
fix this side he wants to stand why?
they pray to their Lord with fear and
longing to stand up to Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala in the middle of the night
to pray with fear and longing for what
he has and from what we have provided
we spend and they are people who apply
Allah's law outside the prayer mat outside the
mihrab they apply Allah's law and give zakah
and this is the origin of the relationship
with Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and this
is the beauty of the relationship look at
the longing the relationship is not orderly and
boring تَتَجَافَ الجُنُوبُ you see the word تَتَجَافَ
what it is saying is that you are
so excited you want to go to Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala and that's the type
of the relationship he is looking for subhanahu
wa ta'ala with us a relationship where
we look forward to spending time with him
we look forward to standing in prayer and
supplicating him and invocating him not a relationship
that is boring where we just want to
finish and move on no, a relationship that
is filled with excitement and closeness it's like
your body can't even wait it wants to
go and do qiyam al-layt to be
closer to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and
that's the nature of our relationship with him
where we want to spend time we want
to submit we want to prostrate, we want
to be close to him subhanahu wa ta
'ala as we move forward the verses say
and Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala said you
think that yawm al-qiyamah, those who believed
and had that relationship with me are going
to be treated similar to those who didn't
those who went astray and there was nothing
left to be treated it's not going to
be the same yawm al-qiyamah, they will
not be treated the same obviously, those who
know Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala knows them well and
they spend time speaking to Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala explaining what their plans to him
subhanahu wa ta'ala in prostration to him
jalla jalaluhu with a strong relationship are not
going to be treated the same way it's
similar to you going to meet someone of
a high ranking but you know the person
and you're going with someone who does not
know them obviously, your chances of getting what
you want of being met earlier and walking
away with what you're hoping for is much
higher than someone who doesn't know who they're
going to meet and they'll maybe even try
to see if you'll give them a hand
or put in a good word أَفَمَنْ كَانَ
he says subhanahu wa ta'ala in a
verse that's extremely important I think we're supposed
to be used to the sajda every week
at fajr, on Friday because of this ayah
لَعَلَّهُمْ يَرْجِعُونَ and indeed, we are going to
put them through العذاب الأدنى العذاب الأدنى means
the inferior difficulty he's talking subhanahu wa ta
'ala about the difficulties of life he's talking
about the calamities of life the misfortunes, the
tests, the trials that Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala will continue to put you through these
trials, and put you through these calamities, trying
to get you instead of waiting letting you
do what you want, and then punishing you
العذاب الأكبر before you actually have to go
and get punished وَالْعِيدُ بِاللَّهِ يَوْمُ الْقِيَامَةِ لَعَلَّهُمْ
يَرْجِعُونَ so that maybe you wake up and
you come back to him subhanahu wa ta
'ala يَرْجِعُونَ the concept is beautiful so maybe
you'll return you'll find your way back to
him jalla jalaluhu because you should have never
gone anywhere else to begin with where are
you going أَيْنَ تَذْهَبُونَ where can you go
from Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala but you
are, you're walking far away from Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala you don't remember him, you
don't speak to him, there's no relationship so
he throws obstacles in your way maybe you'll
fall down a few times get into a
couple of difficulties just maybe that you'll pause
for a moment and remember and come back
to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala that's why
we're given these difficulties so that we can
remember Allah jalla jalaluhu and we can repair
this relationship that isn't working that we have
left and that we have neglected for so
long he initiated it and he's waiting for
you to do the same subhanahu wa ta

So they ask out of mocking, you
know, they're mocking the Muslims.
So when is this great day of yours
that you speak of?
قُلْ Say, يَوْمَ الْفَتْحِ On that day, لَا
The
people who didn't believe will not benefit from
believing that day.
So leave them
and wait for that day to come, just
like Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is waiting
for that day to come.
Focus on your relationship with Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala.
Let those who don't want it, not want
it.
Why?
Because it's their problem.
They don't have to be forced into this.
Whose loss do you think it is?
When one of us says, I don't want
to have a relationship with Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala, I don't want to pray, I
don't want to be close to Him.
Do you think that's Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala's loss?
Do you think that somehow I have to
force this person to have a relationship with
Him?
It's their loss.
They've been offered the best thing they could
ever be offered in this world.
And they're saying no to it.
It's their problem.
Leave them, give them the da
'wah.
If they don't want it, that's fine.
They're the ones who are going to be
empty on, they're the ones who are missing
out on being close to Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala.
If you look in Surah Al-Ishaj, you'll
find the concept of certainty all through it.
There is no
doubt in it.
Indeed, we are
certain.
We gave Musa the books.
So do not have any doubt in the
fact that you will meet Musa as well
one day.
This concept of yaqeen is important.
Building the certainty will allow us to have
a healthy relationship with Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala.
And building certainty happens by reading the parts
of Surah Al-Ishaj that talk about His
creation.
Because that's where you're going to get your
certainty from looking at what Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala created.
hope that was beneficial again I'd like to
