Adnan Rajeh – Surat Al-Haaqqa Summary
AI: Summary ©
The importance of achieving moral and ethical values in order to be successful as Muslims is emphasized in a series of monographies and lectures. The need for understanding and practicing the words "rocky," "has been," and "has a heart" is emphasized, along with the importance of finding happiness in life and finding one's true values. The need for belief and behavior to avoid fear of Allah Almighty and the need for understanding the Prophet's teachings and remorse is emphasized. The importance of learning about one's deeds and the Prophet's teachings is also emphasized.

Surah Al-Haqqah In the name of Allah,
Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise is due to Allah, Lord of
the worlds.
Allahumma salli wa sallim wa barak ala nabiyyina
wa habibina muhammadin wa ala alihi wa sahbihi
ajma'in wa ba'd.
Today, insha'Allah, we will talk about Surah
Al-Haqqah.
We'll focus on.
And the first four surahs, we'll talk about
what you need to have in order for
you to be able to perform proper da
'wah.
There are four elements that you need to
carry with you.
The first one is knowledge.
You have to know a certain amount of
things.
And that information has to be readily available
to you.
And you have to have certain level of
certainty within it.
That's what Surah Al-Mulk talked about.
Surah Al-Qalam talked about values.
What we need in terms of values, what
we need in terms of ethics and morals.
We have to have a certain ethical code
in order for us to function as Muslims
properly.
And if we're going to perform da'wah,
we have to have the right ethics or
values or else no one's going to be
listening.
Surah Al-Haqqah looks at what we need
in terms of remembrance.
Our spiritual or emotional connection with Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala, with the deen.
And what I mean by that is, sometimes
you'll find people who have a lot of
information.
And they're ethically quite stable.
There are people who have a good set
of morals and values.
And even when it comes to their behaviors,
they behave well, but there's no spirit.
There's no ruh.
There's no heart in it.
There's no emotion.
There's no feelings.
And there's just this stagness.
There's just the lack of true feeling towards
what it is that they are talking about.
And they're just very cold towards it.
And that can cause problems with the whole
picture in the long run.
I mean, you can only stick to something
that you have no emotional attachment to for
so long before you get tired of it
and before you just feel like you want
to do something different.
And it can cause a true drought in
the spirit.
So Surah Al-Haqqa talks about that aspect
of it.
That spiritual emotional attachment, the remembrance, the tadhkirah.
The word is gonna come in the surah
a number of times.
To remind yourself, and for that reminder to
serve as a motivation, and to reconnect you
back.
And that's why Surah Al-Haqqa is a
very powerful surah.
It tells the story of the history and
the day of judgment in a very powerful
way.
It's difficult to read the surah and not
be moved by it.
And even the way it ends is extremely
emotionally charging.
And that's the purpose of it.
So we'll start at the beginning of it.
The surah itself, it begins with its name,
Al-Haqqa.
Now it comes from the root of Al
-Haqq, which is truth or righteousness.
Al-Haqqa means the ultimate truth.
It's an exaggeration of the two or three
letter root.
Haqqa, that is very simple.
Just the concept of truth or righteousness.
Al-Haqqa, the ultimate truth that is going
to occur.
What is
it and do you know anything about it?
This is a Quranic method to kind of
engage you into listening, into wondering, into asking
the question of what is it that this
is.
And again, the point here is to stimulate
emotion, is to stimulate remembrance, to stimulate some
attachment to what's being said.
Because if you don't have that, then there's
something missing in the way that you deal
with Islam and with what you're being taught.
I mean, you can know that there's a
You can live, you have the values that
result from knowing that there's يوم القيامة.
And you can practice the rituals and the
actions that indicate that you understand there's يوم
But then there's that spiritual attachment, that feeling,
that emotional charge that comes from knowing that.
For it to sink in and be a
part of your spirit.
That is a level that is definitely needed
in any relationship really.
I mean, in a marriage, without love, it
doesn't last that long.
It will end.
I mean, even if you know that this
is a good person, you treat them well,
you both have good set of values, but
if it is stagnant, if it lacks emotion,
if it lacks true affection, something that exists
in the heart, then it'll die off.
And eventually, it won't exist anymore.
It'll just fade away.
And people will end it.
Not because of anything wrong with the other
person or any huge problem, just a lack
of true and actual attachment.
So Surah Al-Haqqa in that sense tells
us a story.
It starts right after Allah سبحانه وتعالى encourages
us to think about Al-Haqqa, the real
truth or the ultimate truth.
وَتَعِيَهَا أُذُنُوا وَعِيَةً So he says, سبحانه وتعالى,
he tells us the story of Thamud and
the story of Aad and how they were
both punished.
Thamud was punished with a swift, aggressive blow.
And Aad were punished with seven nights and
seven days of wind.
One was really swift and quick and one
took time.
And when you look at them, all you
would see are bodies.
And graphic description in the Quran of just
bodies lying there like the end part of
a palm tree when the heads are off.
And then the Quran asks, do you see
anyone left of them?
Is there anything left of them?
And Fir'aun before them came.
And the Mu'tafiqat, the people of Thamud, they
refused to listen to their Prophet.
And Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala also punished
them with swift punishment.
And before that, when the water rose, speaking
about the time of Nuh
We carried you in that ship
and we saved you.
So that you may remember.
So this may serve as a remembrance, something
to remind or a reminder.
And for an ear that
is conscious, that is intelligent, that understands and
can learn this and actually connect to it.
You need someone who has
a high level of consciousness to hear all
this and for it to interact with his
spirit and with his soul and feel it
in order to actually live by it and
for it to make a difference in behavior.
And that's like the first part of the
surah.
It tells a story of how historically people
who have refused to listen and refused to
change their ways were punished and the punishments
were difficult.
Surah Al-Haqqah begins with surah Al-Mursalat
which is the third surah in this part.
Surah Al-Mursalat begins with surah Al-Mulk
and ends with surah Al-Mursalat.
It is the last part of the Qur
'an.
It talks about the issues of da'wah
to Allah.
It talks about the Muslim's share of all
the four main things in Islam so that
he can call upon Allah with his actions.
Then it talks about the examples of da
'wah, the needs of da'wah, and then
about the methods of da'wah.
This part of the surah talks about the
fundamental issue of religion which is to call
upon Allah.
Not only through speech.
Speech is the least and most basic method
of da'wah.
Da'wah is through actions, life, morals, and
actions.
This is what attracts people and strengthens them.
Surah Al-Mulk talks about the Muslim's share
of knowledge.
What a Muslim should know in order to
call upon Allah.
Surah Al-Qalam talks about values and morals,
the moral compass for a Muslim to stick
to.
Then Surah Al-Haqqa talks about his share
of communication and remembrance, of preaching, the spiritual
value, the value of feelings and sensations, the
spiritual connection to these words.
It is easy for a person to understand
the words of a person, then a group
of morals and values are formed in him,
and perhaps he practices these morals and values
through worship, poetry, and good deeds.
But if there is a deficiency in the
connection of the soul, feelings, and heart to
these meanings, then with time, boredom occurs, and
the distance between a person and this approach
occurs, due to the lack of connection between
his heart and his soul.
This happens in all relationships, even in a
marital relationship.
If a person does not have a heart
full of love for the other person, then
with time the relationship goes away and they
separate.
They separate, even though they are both good
people, all of them know the other person
well, but if there is a lack of
love and spiritual connection, then a separation occurs.
This is what Surah Al-Haqqa reminds us
of.
It is a story with a strong dialect,
full of action, full of warning and glad
tidings that move the heart and emotions.
Surah Al-Haqqa begins with the word Al
-Haqqa, which means to glorify Al-Haqq, which
is something that will happen without a doubt.
What is Al-Haqqa?
And what do you know about Al-Haqqa?
This is the Qur'anic style of asking
for human forgiveness, where a person is drawn
to these words.
Then Surah Al-Haqqa begins with the story
of the previous nations.
Thamud and Aad.
Thamud who were destroyed by the tyrant, i
.e. by one severe blow.
As for Aad, they were destroyed by the
wind, which made them suffer for seven nights
and eight days.
The matter was settled, but it took time.
There are nations who were destroyed immediately, and
there are nations who were destroyed...
The matter took time, regardless of how the
two nations were destroyed.
Even when you see the people, it is
as if they are a pair of hollow
palm trees, as if they are palm trees
without a head.
This is how they are found on earth.
Do you see anything left of them?
No.
Then Pharaoh came, and those before him, and
the hypocrites.
They disobeyed the Messenger of their Lord, so
He took them.
Indeed, when the water overflowed, We carried you
into the river, that We might make it
a reminder for you.
And all the nations before them, Pharaoh, and
those before him, Pharaoh, Lot, Moses, and the
people of Noah, all of them were those
who were destroyed, and the believers were saved,
so that it might be a reminder for
us, so that Allah might remind us of
this.
And the ears of those who are awake
will hear it.
And those who are able to hear it
will hear it.
Those who are able to understand it will
understand it.
And those who are able to remember it
will remember it.
And this will be a barrier for them
from the unlawful, and a motivation for them
to be lawful and obedient.
A person needs these motives.
These motives do not come only from knowledge,
and only from morals.
They come from remembrance.
Fear, fear, and desire are part of these
motives.
These are important motives.
The Qur'an confirms this in this story.
Just as you have the motivation for knowledge,
and the motivation for understanding, and the motivation
for morals, you have to have the motivation
for hope, hope, and fear.
So the surah continues, and the surah is
offering us this motive, this motive of hopefulness
of Allah's mercy, and fear of His punishment.
You need those.
It's not just enough to understand clearly, and
to have a clear set of values.
You need that motive of love, and desire,
and fear.
These are strong motives that basically define the
human experience.
And Surah Al-Haqqa is trying to play
on those motives, getting us to love, to
want, to desire, to fear, and to revere.
And once you have those emotions, it's easier
to follow the word of Allah.
So the surah continues, And
on that day, and the day will come
where the الواقع, the occurrence, will occur.
It's similar to Surah Al-Waq
'a, when we talked about the same wording.
That occurrence will occur.
And the
cosmos will start being destroyed, and ripped to
pieces, and it becomes very weak.
The structure that was once magnificent and huge,
becomes very weak because it's being destroyed.
And
the angels are at the edges of the
universe, all of them.
And eight of them carry the throne of
your Lord.
On that day, you're exposed.
Nothing is hidden.
Nothing is concealed any longer.
You're fully exposed.
Everything about you, everything that you did publicly,
and everything that occurred secretly, and on a
personal level, will be exposed on that day
to Allah ﷻ.
And then the surah goes into the two
directions that a person can go on Yawm
al-Qiyamah.
And the person
who is going to be given their book
in the right hand.
The person who has their book
in the right hand, he'll say, هاءم, come
see, come take a look, come read my
book.
He wants to share this ultimate success with
everybody.
See this emotional response.
They're so happy, they want to share it
with everyone.
هاءم, come read, see my book.
Look at all the sins that are forgiven,
pardoned, and look at all the good deeds
that were accepted.
Indeed, I knew that I was going to
meet this day.
I prepared for this day.
So this person is going to be in
a happy life.
A calm and satisfying life.
عِيشَةٍ is life.
They're going to live a life that is
satisfying, that is calm, where there's happiness.
In a high paradise, where everything that you
want is near, and you'll be told, eat
and drink and enjoy, for you have spent
a lot of effort and time in the
previous days in dunya.
The person who's given the book
in the left hand, will say, I wish
I was never given a book, I wish
I was never accountable, I wish I was
never a human being, I wish I never
lived a life, I wish I was like
any other mammal running around, with no responsibility,
with no consciousness, so I would never be
held accountable for anything.
Because I didn't take time to understand and
know that I was going to be held
accountable.
I wish the time I died was the
end of it.
What has my wealth
and status benefited me today?
Everything that I owned, all the connections, all
the power that I had in dunya is
completely gone.
The ayat continue and they
describe what this person hears.
And
He said, you indeed, the reason you're here
is that you did not believe in Allah
the Magnificent.
And you did not encourage feeding the needy.
This is what's in the Surah.
This is what Allah سبحانه وتعالى talks about
the two reasons that this person is going
to be punished.
They did not believe in Allah
العظيم and they refused to encourage feeding the
needy.
Those who are poor and had nothing.
And you would think that the first part
is enough.
He didn't believe so he's gonna be punished.
But Allah سبحانه وتعالى talks about the second
part.
It's not that he didn't feed the needy.
Maybe he did that but he didn't encourage
it.
I mean this wasn't the lifestyle.
It's a very scary ayah because I wonder
how many of us actually even think about
this.
Nowhere in the Qur'an by the way
does Allah سبحانه وتعالى talk about the punishment
of those who are going to be punished.
And only talk about a problem of their
belief system.
It doesn't exist in the Qur'an.
You can look for it.
Allah سبحانه وتعالى is always going to talk
about something about their behavior.
Something that they did regarding the benefits and
the lives of other people around them.
This is all through the Mus'haf.
And Surah Al-Haq is one of the
earliest surahs as well.
And you find this just like yesterday in
Allah
سبحانه وتعالى tries to explain to us that
being Muslim is not just a set of
beliefs, a creed, it also is a set
of actions, it's a set of values, it's
a way of living regarding your fellow human
being, and the earth and everything living on
it.
And if that's not clear, then really Islam
becomes almost harmful to those who follow it.
Because it can lead to a high level
of certainty and arrogance and reward even though
you're not doing what you need to do.
If you take it out of the equation,
then it's a problem.
But the Qur'an doesn't do that.
And that's why it's important for us to
read the book of Allah سبحانه وتعالى.
And learn what it's trying to teach us.
It's a horrible
and scary sight.
It moves a person.
This emotion, this feeling, which pushes him to
remember Allah, and gives him the motivation to
love, to hope, to hope, and the fear
that without it, the humility dies, the hearts
die, and they become like stones, and the
remembrance becomes, and the whole religion becomes a
mechanical thing.
And this doesn't last, by Allah.
Religion needs a soul, it needs emotions, it
needs hearts, so that a person can benefit
from it.
Then the surah tells us about the two
groups, the one who is given his book
in his right hand, and he says, Here
is my book, come and read it.
He wants all the people, he wants all
the people to read what is in his
book, and he says, I thought I was
going to meet my reckoning.
So this person is in a good life,
a beautiful life, look at the life, he
lives a good life, and he is happy
with his life, he is in paradise, he
gets what he wants, he eats, he drinks,
and he is called upon.
It's a beautiful thing, a person hopes for
it, he loves it.
You see your book in your right hand,
and you see in it, goodness that you
love, and you share it with people, and
you live in a good life, and which
goodness is greater than that?
Then the one who is given his book
in his left hand, he says, I wish
I hadn't been given my book.
I didn't know what my reckoning was, I
didn't care about the matter, I didn't want
it.
I wish I had been the judge, I
wish I had died, I would have ended
the matter.
I wish I hadn't lived, I wouldn't have
been the son of Adam, I would have
been like the animals, and when I die,
the matter is over.
He didn't take my money from me, he
destroyed my authority, the money didn't benefit me,
and the authority that I had is gold.
Then he is called upon to take it,
so they took it, then they prayed it
in the *, then in a chain, the
weight of it is 70 pounds, so take
it, I swear, it's a horrible and scary
picture, of a person who is taken, and
taken, and thrown into *, and he is
in a chain of 70 pounds, he is
taken into *, and he is returned to
Allah.
Then he is told the reason, he didn't
believe in Allah the Great, and he didn't
love the food of the poor.
As for the belief in Allah the Great,
we know it.
As for the love of the food of
the poor, who would think that this would
cause a person to enter *?
Our Lord, Glory be to Him, what is
in the Quran, the individual of disbelief, the
believer, is punished, except that there is conduct
with him.
Thus, entering paradise does not come only by
faith, but it comes by doing good deeds
with him, and this comparison is essential in
the Quran.
And the separation between these two things is
not from the words of Allah, Glory be
to Him, but it is from the creation
of humans.
Humans like to separate, it is easier, the
believer enters, and the disbeliever does not enter.
As for their deeds, and their righteousness, and
their concern for the poor, this is a
matter that has no effect.
This is from the creation of humans, because
this lightens a person's responsibilities, and gives him
a feeling, even if it is a lie,
of confidence that he is from the people
of paradise, although his morals do not allow
this.
Glory be to Allah.
But the Quran rejects such words.
He did not believe, nor did he believe.
It is not a matter that he did
not believe, although he believed, but he did
not believe in the food of the poor.
This is the Quran.
The Quran is full of these verses.
You will not find, you will not find,
except that Allah Almighty will judge between disbelief
and polytheism, and between evil deeds, such as
hostility, and injustice, and aggression, and tyranny, and
the harm of the poor, and the harm
of the orphan.
This is it.
But if we separate, then we do not
know what will happen to them.
Likewise, if we separate between faith and righteous
deeds, we do not know what will be
done.
This is a matter, it is assumed, that
something will be destroyed in us, out of
fear of Allah Almighty.
This is it.
Allah
Subh'anaHu Wa Ta-A'la talks about
the person who refused to believe, and refused
to encourage feeding the needy.
And I can't emphasize enough the importance of
the Quran, looking at these two things, whether
it's going to Jannah, you have to have
both belief and behavior that allows it.
Just like if you're going to be punished,
you have to have both.
When you start disconnecting these two things, no
one knows what's going to happen.
And Islam doesn't work when you disconnect them.
That's the act of...
The human beings like to disconnect these two
things, because it's easier that way.
If you just believe you go to Jannah,
it's easy.
Just have a set of beliefs regardless of
whether you actually practice it, whether you actually
care for the world around you or not.
But the Quran doesn't support that narrative.
The Quran does not support that narrative.
And it's important that we read the book
of Allah in that sense and understand it
that way.
That person
will find no friends يوم القيامة.
Or food that is satisfying.
But from the
hellfire.
Only the mistake, only
those who made the clear mistakes are going
to be in this situation.
Then Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala takes an oath by everything we
see and we don't see.
By everything.
That what you're reading is the word of
a unique and noble prophet.
I mean, this is the wording of the
Prophet ﷺ.
This is what Jibreel, Allah's Messenger taught the
Prophet ﷺ saying that this is all coming
from God.
This is not made
up by some poets but you don't want
to believe.
And it's not made up by some sorcerer
but you just don't want to be reminded.
Again, the concept of remembrance
comes again in this surah.
However, what this is,
is descended from the Lord of everything.
These verses here are very very
heavy.
Listen to what they're saying.
They're saying, had he, the Prophet ﷺ made
up anything from his head, said anything about
the Qur'an or added something to the
Qur'an or changed something in the Qur
'an based on his own intuition or his
own thoughts, we would have punished him.
Meaning with our power, with our ability.
We would have taken his life immediately and
cut his jugular, الوَتِينَ I mean, صلى الله
This is the status of the Prophet ﷺ
is known and understood in the Qur'an.
But Allah ﷻ is saying, if he were
to make up one word, if he were
to say something that Allah ﷻ did not
specifically ask him to say, then this punishment
that would have come to him would have
been very swift and his life would have
ended immediately.
No one
could stop Allah ﷻ from taking him if
he had done that.
He never did obviously, never did.
But this is what the Qur'an is
saying.
This serves as motivation of fear, of reverence,
of respect.
That is important, that comes along with understanding
and it comes hand in hand with comprehension
and cognition.
But having that feeling that this is serious,
this is real.
That's why when the surah goes on, it
This indeed will serve
as a reminder for those who have some
piety.
Just know that
some of you will refuse all this.
And they will regret
this on the Day of Resurrection.
And indeed, this is the...
الحق, حق اليقين is one of the highest
levels of certainty.
حق is truth.
اليقين is certainty.
There's regular يقين, there's عين اليقين, there's علم
اليقين, there's حق اليقين, which is the highest
level of certainty.
Meaning the certainty becomes the only truth that
you're aware of.
Meaning you will fully experience this and know
it's the only truth that exists once you
see it and you're a part of it
on the Day of Resurrection.
Once you experience it spiritually and physically.
So exalt your Lord,
the Great.
Exalt your Lord, the Magnificent.
You see, that's the idea of this surah.
It builds this emotion to tell you at
It motivates
you for that to come from your heart.
And that's the idea of surah Al-Haqq
and I hope it was beneficial.
