Adnan Rajeh – Surat Al-Ahqaaf Summary
AI: Summary ©
The transcript describes the importance of shaping behavior and belief to avoid confusion and chaos. The surah emphasizes the need for parents to pursue their instructions and not disclosing results. The message of Islam is not ours and the Qover is not our hands. The rain is a sign of punishment and the Prophet is the one who invited the jinn to Islam. The Prophet is the one who did not believe in the Prophet and the ones who did not believe in the Prophet.
AI: Summary ©
Today inshallah we will talk about the last
surah, it's in the 8th cluster of the
surahs of the Quran, al-Hawadid.
Today we will talk about surah al-Haqqa.
And this cluster of surahs gives pieces of
advice and warnings regarding our journey in serving
Allah.
The first three surahs were pieces of advice
and the second three were warnings.
And this last surah is an extremely important
rule or law that everyone who walks down
this path should continuously stay aware of and
observe at all times.
It's very important.
And the concept of the surah talks about,
the theme it has, is that we're supposed
to do our jobs regardless whether we see
the results or not.
Results are not in our hands, we cannot
produce them.
Sometimes things will work out and sometimes things
won't.
And there's really no way for us to
know 100% whether things are going to
work out for the better or work out
for the worse, whether our effort is going
to receive fruition or not.
There's no way.
It's impossible for us to actually figure out
whether people are going to respond to our
Dawah and to the good that we do
or not respond.
Whether the hard work that we put in
is going to actually present itself in a
proper way or in a way that satisfies
us.
There's no way.
That's why the beginning of the surah starts
where Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala tells the
Prophet ﷺ in a number of verses how
to have the proper arguments with his believers.
How to do the job properly.
To continue to talk about every single point
that they bring up and to use the
proper logic in arguing and debating these points.
And at the end they still don't believe.
And at the end they use a completely
irrational argument.
So the surah begins.
Say this, Ya Muhammad.
Tell them about the idols that they worship
beside Allah.
What have they created?
What do they own in this universe?
Give me a book from creation to nations
or any faith or way of life that
states that anything on this earth created anything
on this earth.
Give me any piece of knowledge.
This is what the ayah is saying.
Give me any piece of knowledge that can
support that.
The ayah continues to tell the Prophet ﷺ
how to argue the points properly.
Say this.
All these, say, say, say, say, the Prophet
ﷺ is being told.
If they tell you you read up the
Quran, they'll answer this way.
If you want to remind them, remind them
by saying that it's from Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala.
You refuse it.
You refuse to even look at it or
listen to it or consider it.
and how are you going to justify yourself,
your mechanic?
It doesn't have to be you.
Do the job correctly.
Exhaust all your energy and put in your
100 defenses for whatever it is that you
do.
Do it to the best of your ability.
That is the first part of the law.
That is the first part of the scientific
law, the law that results are not in
our hands.
That law should not and cannot be used
as an excuse not to do our job,
not to try our best, not to learn
that a lot of us aren't going to
talk and then use it to the best
of our ability.
This is not what this law says.
As it begins by telling you about how
to do something.
And then there's a bubble of disbelievers.
What part of it, I can't tell you,
but they were kind of playing around, messing
up all day.
Their point was the following.
You see, if what you had was the
best, you put what was truthful and what
was the correct thing, then you wouldn't have
to do it because we are just generally
better than you.
And that was the end of it.
There was no question of it.
Some people just won't listen to her.
How well would we have done all of
this?
And the ayah that you see, noobim fathim
li idab al-musa imanu wa ahla wa
ayada idab al-mufaddiku al-lisaan al-arabiyya
li nunhiru al-nadheena zalamu that this book
is not alone.
It's in terms of the concept of books
being sent by Allah subh'ana wa ta
'ala.
Before it was just a book of Musa
and those books had the same basic ideas.
That's why they ended that first part of
the surah.
It goes, inna al-nadheena al-hadu wa
abdu'l-allahu kumma al-saqaamu wa fala
'ahumu al-nabiyyin wa laa wa al-ta
'azani It means that the ones who say
Allah subh'ana wa ta'ala is our
Lord, that they want the straight path, there
is no fear for them.
No mercy for them.
Why?
You do your job.
And then that's it.
You do the best you can, then you
continue to watch the book.
You don't have to worry about the results
if you do your best because you can
never really control them.
Those are the ahzab in the surah al
-akhirah in the gu'a surah al-halameen
This is the last group of surahs in
the Qur'an.
And this group of surahs gives advice and
lessons in the way of serving Allah.
So surah al-thirat al-ula gave advice
and lessons and the next surah gave lessons.
And this last surah al-nihwar is a
surah that has an important law for everyone
to understand this law and to follow it.
We don't control the results.
The results are not in my hands.
They are in Allah's hands.
And we can't say why some people don't
respond and some people don't respond.
We can't know exactly what is good and
what is bad.
This is our duty.
And our duty is to do what Allah
has commanded us to do to the best
of our ability to the best of our
ability.
We don't do our best in serving Allah.
Then we leave it to Allah.
And for that, we start the surah and
Allah commands the Prophet ﷺ in his discussion
in their dialogue Say, have you seen those
who follow the Messenger of Allah?
Show me what you have created from the
earth or what you have ascribed to the
heavens.
Bring me a book from the earth or
a book of knowledge.
Or they say, I have invented it.
Say, if you have invented it, do not
destroy it.
Say, I was not a creation of angels
and I do not know what they do
to me or to you.
Say, have you seen those who follow the
Messenger of Allah?
Show me what you have created from the
earth and what you have ascribed to the
heavens.
The Prophet ﷺ was reading so that he
could understand what was being discussed.
And then they do not destroy it.
They do not destroy it.
And when they were questioned about the creation
of the earth, Those who disbelieve, those who
believe, if it were good, they would not
have preceded us to it.
We do not disobey you.
We do not disobey you.
If it were good, we would have preceded
you to it.
And so the matter ended.
And you, O Prophet, you, O Prophet, you
are responsible for the matter that is in
the remembrance of the Prophet ﷺ.
So those who say, Our Lord is the
Protector, who has established the way of the
Prophets, are those who are in the right
path.
Your mission is to seek them, to do
what is important for you, to seek them
with a great face and then to call
them to the right path.
You will not be told about the results
of a matter that cannot be asked about,
about the results of a matter that cannot
be asked about.
The results, O Prophet, that can be asked
about, the results, O Prophet, that can be
asked about, the results, O Prophet, if you
are served as an excuse from the people.
If a person doesn't do his job, and
doesn't do what is right for him, and
doesn't try his best, and doesn't follow Allah's
orders, and doesn't try all the ways to
apply Sharia, and to invite him to the
best of the ways, then he says what
is right for him, then Allah will make
it right for him.
This is a curse, a curse, and it
exists, and many people don't hear it.
But this surah is very important.
The surah starts with how the Prophet ﷺ
was told to stand up straight, then he
didn't succeed.
The part of the surah after that, it
talks about one of the most, or not
one of the most, the most common part
of life, which is having children, and building
a family.
It talks about how Allah ﷻ commanded people
to be, to honor their parents, and treat
them as the best we make possible.
It reminds the person why they need to
do that.
It reminds us why we need to honor
our parents because of the effort that our
mothers and our fathers put into us.
And then it gives two examples.
One child,
Once the child grows up and becomes
an adult.
The first example is someone
who
The
person said, O Allah, grant me the ability
to show You gratitude and thanks for all
of the blessings that You bestowed upon me
and upon my parents, and allow me to
perform the best deeds, and make sure that
my children do the same.
I have indeed repented to You, and I
am a Muslim.
Allah says, those are the ones who accept
all their deeds.
And then after it, another example.
Same scenario.
Parents who put in their effort to take
care of their kids and teach their kids
and love their kids.
And then this person goes up, وَلَّذِي قَالَ
And
then this person goes up,
How
do we know, you don't.
You know that question that you're thinking about
if you're over 40 or 35, and you're
wondering how do I do it?
There's no way to do it, you just
do the job.
Because that's the only way you can get
off the hook of your program.
You do your job, but you can't control
the results.
They may turn out to be the first,
you ask Allah.
But there will be a second example.
It doesn't necessarily mean it was your fault.
If you did your job, you can't control
the results.
Sometimes that's how it can happen.
There's no way to know.
You just have to do Allah's call.
And then ask Allah to cut that out
for you.
The ayah after it is such an important
ayah.
It comes twice in the Qur'an.
There are two in the Qur'an.
And it's very, very powerful and very important.
Look what the surah says about that.
I came to this ayah, the surah here,
because it's important.
Both parties,
the believing child and the disbelieving child, both
of them, they are given يوم القيامة a
certain degree of reward based on what they
did.
They will get something back from what they
did.
Everyone will.
This ayah is repeated twice in the Qur
'an.
It's important.
Not only do we not control the results,
not only do we not understand exactly how
things work or why some people believe and
some people don't, some people correspond and some
people don't, we don't even know those who
don't believe what's going to happen to them.
We don't even know if Allah ﷻ will
give them a reward or not because وَلِكُلِّنْ
Everyone is going to be
awarded to a certain degree based on what
they did.
That's what the Qur'an is saying.
It's not what I'm saying.
What he's trying to say somehow is that
it's way more complicated.
It's too complicated for you to understand.
Don't waste your time trying to understand.
Don't waste it.
Just do your role.
Just do your part.
Just do your job.
Spend as much time as you need.
Shower your children with as much love and
care and educate them and spend time with
them so that you've done your part.
You can't understand if, excuse me, how it
all works out.
It's too much.
It's beyond us.
To be a good son.
Al-Miffal al-Ghafir Al-Mif'al al
-Ghafir As it is said, rest your head,
and let the Prophet work upon you, and
let the child know nothing about Allah, and
all degrees are important to him.
An important verse.
He will not be able to be a
non-believer if the verse of Jesus is
not enough for him.
The Qur'an contradicts it.
The Qur'an says other than that.
How many of them?
I do not know.
Perhaps they are from the companions of the
following verse.
The example I after, the two examples that
we have after.
So the first example was parents and their
children, this way or that way.
The example after, there are two groups.
The first group is what the surah is
named after, Al-Ahqaf, the people of Al
-Ahqaf.
Hud Alayhi Salaam, his people
were called the Aad, and they lived in
a place called Al-Ahqaf that exists in
the Arabic peninsula.
And it's called Al-Ahqaf because it's large
groups of sand, quicksand, that look like a
crescent.
And it's called Al-Ahqaf because it's like
a crescent.
And these are huge, kilometers upon kilometers of
quicksand that surrounded Aad.
And Aad looked at the quicksand as a
way for them to protect themselves.
They were surrounded by sand that it was
hard for other nations to charge them because
they would sink into it.
And look how Allah Subh'anaHu Wa Ta
-A'la is pointing out all the advantages
that Aad had.
Not only Al-Ahqaf, they were protected.
But Akha Aad, meaning the brother of Aad,
meaning Hud who was speaking to them was
their family.
It wasn't some foreigner trying to tell them
what to do.
Meaning they had been given multiple warnings and
they had seen multiple signs from Allah Subh
'anaHu Wa Ta-A'la but they just
refused, they didn't want, they didn't like any
of it.
And he told them stop talking gibberish.
If your lord can punish us, let him
punish us.
And then he would say, the knowledge of
this is with Allah.
I'm just doing my job, I'm trying to
explain to you.
But it seems like you don't want to
listen.
And then they saw, one day they saw
clouds, dark clouds coming from afar.
They saw clouds and they thought to
themselves, amazing, rain, this will, you know, irrigate
our land and the sand beside it.
It's good, it's khayr.
Little did they know that it wasn't khayr.
And the reason that this verse is in
Surah Al-Ahqaf, is because they didn't know
either.
You don't know what the results are gonna
look like.
People don't even know if what's coming is
khayr or shabd, they don't even know.
Wind came and brought this storm,
and the water hit the quicksand, it sunk
everybody and everyone died in Ad.
Except Hud and the few people who were
commanded by Allah SWT to leave the town.
They didn't know, they thought something good was
coming there, it wasn't good.
Because there's no way for us to know,
too many variables in the universe.
We can't be certain of anything to come.
All we can be certain of is our
efforts, is what we're doing.
Do we have the right intention?
Are we following the right path?
Are we doing the right thing?
That's all we can know.
Everything else is, unfortunately, we can maybe estimate
a few things if we have good...
If we spend enough time studying phenomena, then
we may be able to get it, but
it's impossible to know for sure what's going
to happen next.
And that's the example of how they didn't
believe.
And then the ayat would comment on that.
And the ayat turned to
Qawai said, We made them just like you,
just as strong as you are, even stronger.
And we gave them ears and eyes and
consciousnesses.
And they were able to understand and perceive,
but it didn't help them because they didn't
listen.
They had every advantage to believe, but they
didn't.
This is a'ad.
Now the example right after that, وَإِذْ صَرَفْنَا
The other
example is the Prophet ﷺ with the jinn.
We know nothing about jinn, really don't.
They exist in some other realm, we can't
access it.
It's not something that science can ever pick
up.
Science can never pick up jinn.
Just know that, and you know, never.
There's no scientific way to ever see, hear,
or measure jinn in any form.
They exist in a different realm altogether.
The Prophet ﷺ didn't even know he was
performing da'wah to them.
He was just reading the Qur'an.
The jinn heard it.
It was clear to them that this is
the right thing.
It's exactly what Musa ﷺ had.
And they went back and they performed da
'wah to their own.
And they accepted Islam.
Jinn had no advantages to believe.
We didn't even know they were listening.
Because we don't control the results.
A'ad had every advantage.
They had prophets go to them, and nothing.
It didn't work out.
And then jinn, we didn't even know you
were there.
And they accept Islam.
And a whole nation of jinn accept Islam
with them.
This is Allah ﷻ.
The deal is not ours.
It's not for us to say who will,
who won't.
It's not.
You just do your thing.
The Prophet ﷺ just did what he needed
to do.
ﷺ The
example that follows the example of prophethood and
generalization.
The example of A'ad and the jinn.
So that the meaning is established.
That the results are not in our hands.
But in our hands is the work.
The effort.
The sacrifice.
And the rest is with Allah ﷻ.
We don't even know them.
A'ad, look.
Hud came to them.
And he is their brother.
And he is mentioned as A'ad's brother.
And there was a warning in front of
him and behind him.
There was a warning before him and after
him.
And it was possible for them on earth.
And who speaks to them from them.
And not from outside them.
And the verses came to them.
But they refused to believe.
And they said, did you come to deceive
us about our gods?
So bring us what you promise us.
So Allah ﷻ sent a cloud and a
wind.
And when they saw him coming, they said,
this is coming to rain on us.
Alhamdulillah.
The rain and the good came to us.
They do not know that the punishment will
come to them.
We do not know.
What will come to us is good or
bad.
No one knows.
We can only try what we have.
By Allah, this is a strange matter.
No one can know.
A'ad thought this would bring them good.
But a storm came.
From the abundance of the wind that was
in it.
And from the intensity of the rain that
fell.
These sands were moving under them.
It swallowed them.
And they all died.
And they were like a miracle of a
fallen palm tree.
As Allah ﷻ says.
They all died.
They thought it was good, but they found
something else.
No one knows.
And Allah ﷻ reminds the Quraish, We have
enabled you in that which We have enabled
you in.
And We made for them hearing and sight
and hearts.
So their hearing, sight and hearts were of
no use to them.
While the jinn, the Prophet ﷺ invited them
to Islam.
And he did not know that he was
inviting them.
We have sent to you a group of
jinn.
They are listening to the Qur'an.
And when they attended it, they said, I
agree.
And when it was finished, they turned to
their people, warning them.
They said, O our people, we have heard
a book sent down after Moses, confirming what
is in my hands.
O our people, respond to Allah's invitation.
The jinn believed.
And the Prophet ﷺ did not mean to
invite them at that moment.
While again their brother came to them, Hud.
And he invited them, and the warnings, and
the verses, and they did not believe.
What made these people not believe this?
We do not know.
But the matter is not in our hands.
And it is in our hands to do
what is right for us.
And to spread what is in our reach.
It is a matter of utmost importance.
Again, they believe for every reason.
But they did not believe.
The end of the surah, the last part
of it.
And I'll just jump to the end of
it, because we have a lot of time.
So what are we supposed to do?
The last ayah kind of summarizes it, so
you know exactly what you're supposed to do.
He says, subhanAllah,
He says, subhanAllah,
Show perseverance.
تَصْبِرْ doesn't mean sit down and be patient.
It means keep on doing your job, work
as hard as you can and show perseverance
as you do it.
The mighty
prophets did.
Just like they continue to work every
day of their life.
They never stop for a moment.
They never gave up.
They always put in their 100% at
all times.
Just like they did.
Don't be in a hurry
for people to accept what you're saying or
not accept.
Don't be in a hurry.
You may do da'wah for years and
the person you're speaking to doesn't listen to
you.
And then one day they do.
And they exceed you.
And they actually make it more farther than
you did.
I'm pretty sure the sahaba in the fourth
year never thought Umar ibn al-Khattab was
going to rule the world one day in
the name of Muhammad ﷺ.
I'm pretty sure they didn't think that.
But it happened.
Because those who don't listen, when they see
Yawm al-Qiyamah, they'll feel like their whole
life was an hour during the day.
They'll regret everything they did.
So don't waste your time trying to force
people to listen to you.
Just do your thing.
Just do as hard.
Just persevere and continue to do your job.
And the ayah says, بَلَغْ This is an
announcement.
This is a law.
Is that clear to you?
The surah is saying, Is that clear?
Just do that.
That's what you do.
Leave everything out.
The group that
will be punished by Allah.
The ones who didn't walk His way.
That's how it is.
This is our mission.
Be patient.
Do what you have to do.
Don't be lazy.
Don't give up.
Don't give up.
Don't put effort in the cause of Allah.
Be patient.
Don't
rush people.
They believe in you.
They don't believe in you.
They don't listen to you.
I've been talking to my son for years.
I've been talking to so and so for
years.
