My brothers and my sisters,
welcome InshaAllah Ta'ala to another
small text where we try to get an
understanding in the deen of Allah
What I have chosen to go through
in these sittings
is
a piece of text
that has been put together by Ibn Qayyim
This
text
was originally taken from
his Kitab Zadul Mi'ad,
which is translated to be the provisions
to the hereafter,
where he speaks about the Prophet sallallahu
alaihi wasallam and the different things that he
used to carry out.
And that which concerns us in this sitting
here
here is how the Messenger
performed the wudu.
Sifatu wudu in Nabi
My brothers and my sisters,
in order for us to become
like the Prophet
we have to try and imitate
to the best of our ability
that which the Prophet
used to do
and the different acts that he used to
carry out.
If we want to claim that we love
the Messenger Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam,
then it only makes sense
that with every step that we take and
every move that we make,
that this is now in line with what
the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam came with. This
is true love.
This is true love, my beloved brothers and
sisters.
There is a verse in the Quran which
Al Imam Ahmad
called the verse of
examination,
Ayatul Mihanna.
What is this verse my brothers and my
sisters?
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala, he says in Surat
Alai Imran,
Say
to
Surat Al il Imran, Say to Surat Al
il Imran, If you truly love
Allah then follow
me and Allah
will love you.
Al Imam Hassan al Basri
the great Tabi'i,
he commented on this verse and he said,
Some people claimed that they love Allah Subhanahu
Wa Ta'ala and his Messenger,
So he tested them with this verse.
I can
sit here all day long holding a banner
claiming that I love the Prophet sallallahu alaihi
wa sallam.
But my brothers and my sisters,
will this really mean anything if I'm not
doing that which the prophet sallallahu alaihi wa
sallam loved for me to do?
So inshallah
my brothers and my sisters, I'm going to
mention
4 points in this introduction
before
I
move into the text of this book.
The first point that I would like to
mention is
how the companions, they used to rush
in implementing the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam's
sunnah.
They were the ones who loved the Messenger
sallallahu alaihi wa sallam
most. Their love cannot be compared
to the love that we have
to Prophet
Abu Bakr
as narrated by Imam Abu Dawood
says something very, very profound.
He said,
There isn't anything that the Messenger Sallallahu Alaihi
Wasallam used to do
except
that I'm going to carry this
out. Indeed I fear that if I was
to leave off
any of the commandments of the Prophet Sallallahu
Alaihi Wasallam
that it will cause me to become deviated,
it will cause me to become misguided.
SubhanAllah.
This is Abu Bakr This
is the way of the companions
When we hear the word Salif, right? Which
is something that many people claim
to be upon the way of the Salif
and Salif are those who have preceded us
from the 3 golden generations, those who the
Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam praised in the Hadith.
Thum Malladeena Yaluna Home Thum Malladeena Yaluna Home.
The best
of them are those of my generation,
then those who came after them and then
those who came after them. So you have
the companions, the Tabi'in, the Tabi'in, the Tabi'in,
in order for us to be
those who are true
in following the way of the salif,
then we have to be like those companions.
And likewise the Tabi'in and the Tabi'a Tabi'in.
Those
who breathe the sunnah of the Messenger sallallahu
alaihi wasallam
and not just merely claim it And then
after claiming,
to be upon the way of the salaf,
we think that we have this green ticket
to get into Aljannah.
This, my brothers and my sisters, is the
wrong way
of going about following the deen of Allah
Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.
So I would like to mention a couple
of examples
with how
the companions, they were very quick
in implementing
the Sunnah of the Messenger Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam
when it really mattered.
The beautiful example of Umar ibn Khattab radiAllahu
ta'ala Anhu.
One time Umar ibn Khattab radiAllahu ta'ala Anhu
was sitting with his companions.
A man, he knocked
and he sought permission to enter upon Umar
ibn Khattab radiAllahu ta'ala Anhu. And he was
given permission to enter.
And upon entering my brothers and my sisters,
he said something
that really really fired up Omar Khattab. He
said, Yabna Al Khattab,
Ma turarteenal
jezlair
Aqaal kathir wamaatahkumu
bayinanabil Adl.
He said to him the following,
O Umar ibn Khattab, O the son of
Al Khattab,
indeed
you're not generous enough. You don't give us
enough.
Okay? And then he said to him,
And also you do not
judge
accordingly
with, you know, the problems that we bring
to you. You're not a fair judge when
it comes to the issues that we have.
SubhanAllah, he's saying this to Umar bin Khattab
radiAllahu ta'ala Anhu.
After
saying to him,
Omar Ibn Khattab became
absolutely
furious,
So much so that he wanted to strike
him.
He wanted to strike him, my brothers and
my sisters.
Said to him, he was
Those who used to attend the private gatherings
of
He said to him, You Umaru,
In
Allah He said to his Prophet,
pardon
and also command with goodness
and also turn away from the ignorant.
This is what Allah
commanded his Prophet. And now, al Hurriq Nuqayes,
who is not more superior than Umar ibn
Khattab, he is now reminding him with that
which Allah
commanded his Prophet.
Then Alhur ibn Qays, he said to Umar
bin Khattab, This
individual
who spoke to you the way he did
by claiming that you do not give them
enough and also you don't judge in a
fair way when dealing with their issues.
Indeed, he is from those who are ignorant.
Then look what he said, And this, my
brothers and my sisters, is something
that really should touch our hearts.
He said,
And upon hearing this, my brothers and my
sisters, Al Khurib Nqaysi said, Umar ibn Al
Khattab
did not step over it at all. He
said, Farrwallahi
maa jawazah, he said, By Allah, he did
not step over this. He did not step
over the ayah when it was mentioned to
him, but rather
he implemented it straight away. Even though here
you can see my brothers and my sisters,
his integrity is being questioned. His integrity is
being questioned.
He's being accused of that which Umar ibn
Khattab radiAllahu ta'ala Anhu is completely free from.
And then look what he said,
He was from
and the limits that Allah
has
prescribed upon us, but rather he was somebody
who was
quick, who was excessive
when it came to what Allah
commanded
by implementing it very, very quickly.
And also, my brothers and my sisters, this
narration that was narrated by Ilman Buhar It
shows the Tawadur,
the humility of Umar ibn Khattab
Even though he was the Amir ul mumineen,
he was the leader of the believers, he
didn't turn around to Al Khurib Nukays and
say,
who are you to tell me what to
do and what not to do?' I am
more knowledgeable with regards to the statements of
Allah Subhana Wa Ta'la. You just sit there
and listen to what I'm going to say
and watch carefully on what I'm going to
do. Did he turn around and say that
my brothers and my sisters?
He did not say that, but rather he
was humble when the verses of Allah Subhana
Wa Ta'la was recited upon him
and he took heed
straight away.
Another example, my beloved brothers and sisters,
is something that happened to Abu Dharr
This is now example number 2.
Abu Dharr, Radhi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu was one
time infuriated
by an individual who broke
his
fountain.
And SubhanAllah,
Falama kana Abu Dharr
Qa'imun,
after Abu Dharr radiAllahu ta'ala Anhu was standing,
and this individual came and he infuriated him
by doing whatever he did,
fajalasa thummathaja.
He sat down
and not only did he just sit down,
after sitting down he went and lied down
as well.
And then he was asked,
Why did you see it and then after
that you lied down? He said, I heard
the Messenger Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam say,
If any of you become angry, then let
him sit.
If his anger does not disappear, then let
him go and sit down. SubhanAllah.
He was infuriated.
He allowed somebody
to use that which belonged to him, and
after being
kind to this individual,
what did he end up doing? He ended
up breaking it. SubhanAllah.
And look how my brothers and my sisters,
they lived the teachings
of the Messenger Sallallahu
Alaihi Wasallam.
He becomes angry and he goes and sits
down. And then,
his anger still never disappeared, but then what
did he do? He ended up rushing to
lying down because this was the prophetic teaching
of the Prophet Sallallahu
Alaihi Wasallam. So that's example number 2.
Example number 3, my brothers and my sisters
that shows Surah Atul Istijabati
Ashabin Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam
al Hadiyah
is
a Hadith of
Abu Saeed al Khudi radiAllahu ta'ala Anhu.
He said,
One time the Messenger Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam
he led the prayer. And then when he
was halfway through his prayer,
Abu Saidan Khudr radiAllahu ta'ala Anhu states that
the Messenger Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam
took his sandals off.
Falima ra'ashabun
Nabi sallallahu alaihi wa sallam madalik
khalaruniyaalahum.
When the companions, they saw this, they also
removed their
salallahu alaihi wa sallam finished with his salah,
he turned around to them and he asked,
Why did you guys take off your sandals?
They responded back and they said,
Ra'aina Al Uaytan Al Aka Fala'aina
Ni'aalana.
We saw that you took off your sandals,
so we took off our sandals as well.
SubhanAllah.
And the Messenger Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam only took
care of because there was some impurities on
his sandals.
And Jibril, alaihi salatu wasallam
had told him this while he was praying.
And based on that, he took it off.
But the companions didn't know that. The mere
fact that they saw the Messenger sallallahu alaihi
wa sallam doing something,
they rushed to doing it as well. Another
example, my beloved brothers and sisters, this is
now example number 4.
One time Anas ibn Malik radiAllahu ta'ala Anhu
he said, ra'i tubi Adi Rasulullah
Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam
a Hatamanmin
Wariqin
One time I saw the Messenger SallAllahu Alaihi
Wasallam
with a silver ring.
When the companions
of the Messenger SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam saw the
Messenger SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam Wasallam wearing the silver
ring,
they went and got themselves silver rings as
well.
And then later on, my brothers and my
sisters,
And one time he ended up getting rid
of his ring. So the
companions, they got rid of their rings as
well. Example number 5, my beloved brothers and
sisters, Alibnabi Talib radiAllahu ta'ala Anhu
He said that the Messenger Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam
once taught him,
He said that the Messenger SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam
taught him, if 2 people, they try to
seek Your judgement,
do not rush to taking any of their
sides.
If you learn to do this,
then you will learn how to judge accordingly.
So look what Ali ibn Mutalli
mentioned.
He said,
I remained
judging
in this way that the Messenger Sallallahu Alaihi
Wasallam told me.
It brought life to their lives,
whatever the Messenger Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam taught them.
It wasn't just theory, my brothers and my
sisters,
but rather it was
implementation
in its quickest form.
And this is how we need to be
my brothers and my sisters.
We love the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam, right?
We love his companions
and let us try and imitate the companions
and how they responded to the commandments of
the messenger sallallahu alaihi wa sallam and to
also his teachings.
To Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala and also to
the Messenger Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam, if you are
called to that which is going to bring
you life. As for the fitna that we
are currently dealing with, of people trying to
use their intellect,
their logic with regards to the statements of
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala's Messenger
Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam.
Whenever an evidence is brought to them, the
first thing they start asking themselves, does this
really make sense?
Should I really be doing this because my
intellect
doesn't seem to,
feel comfortable with implementing this? My brothers and
my sisters,
This is bidayatuhazendaqah.
This is the beginning of 1 apostating from
the deen of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala and
this is exactly how it starts.
One thing leads to another. The same way
a spark of fire, my brothers and my
sisters, leads to buildings
being burnt down. This is exactly how an
individual is going to be tampering with his
religion. But rather, there is times when we
have been told of the reasoning. We are
being told of the wisdom behind a particular
act, and there's times that our intellects just
really cannot,
encompass that wish we are being told. And
then,
subhanAllah, only later on after seeking more knowledge
we begin to realize or
when a news article comes on BBC
claiming to us, oh, this act
is something that, you know, brings a lot
of good to your health as this has
been the case many, many times.
SubhanAllah. There was even an article stating that
drinking while standing up is actually harmful
to a person's body.
Isn't this something that the Messenger Sallallahu Alaihi
Wasallam told us not to do? And so
many other examples that can be mentioned.
And my brothers and my sisters, do we
really need a disbeliever to come to tell
us
what is good for us and what is
not good for us when the Messenger sallallahu
alaihi wa sallam actually told us 1400 years
ago? Are we going to wait for them
to come and tell us what is right
and what is wrong and what is good
and what is not good?
But rather believe in the Messenger Sallallahu Alaihi
Wasallam.
Something very profound that I'm going to conclude
this point with, it It just shows us
my brothers and my sisters
that
it's not always
about just using your logic.
Something that Alim Nabi Talib
mentioned.
He said about deen was just using your
logic
or just being opinionated,
bringing forth your opinion, whatever it might be.
Lakhan asked for Al Khufi Ola bin Mashemina
Allah. He said it only would make sense
that a person wipes
under his leather socks.
Because think about it my brothers and my
sisters,
which part actually gets dirty when you're wearing
your leather socks?
Is it a top part or is it
a bottom part?
It's actually the bottom part, right? But the
Messenger Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam, what did he do?
He ended up wiping the top part.
So Ali ibn Abi Talib said, I saw
the messenger sallallahu alaihi wasallam wipe the top
part of his leather socks, when it actually
just makes sense for you to wipe the
bottom because that's the part that gets dirty.
But my brothers and my sisters,
The sound,
intellect, it doesn't go against
the textual evidence from the kitab and the
sunnah, from the Quran and the sunnah.
But the moment our intellects start clashing with
the Quran and the Sunnah, there isn't an
issue with the Kitab and the Sunnah, but
the reality is that there's an issue with
our intellects.
Even Sheikh Al Samtaim has
volumes called
Where he speaks about
how
people claim that, you know, the Quran, it
goes against the intellect when in reality it
rather, the sound intellect, it always goes in
accordance to the Kitab
and the Sunnah
of the
