mean? Well solid Well, salam, Allah says I will leave it in the Vienna Muhammadan ala alihi wa sahbihi abetik wa salam. O praise the due to Allah, Lord of the Worlds, and peace and blessings be constantly showered upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad, the master of the first and the last, his family, his companions and all those who call to his way, and establish his sunnah to the Day of Judgment, as to what follows a salam Wa alaykum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh
Alhamdulillah, we are continuing with our new Muslim corner. And despite the fact that we are close to Ramadan, we wanted to keep the momentum going, especially for those who have recently embraced Islam, those who are reviving their faith, and also those who may be interested to know
what the Islamic concepts are. And in this case, specifically about fasting, and the month of Ramadan.
This is a special time.
And we are looking at this
issue from the eyes and from the point of view of those who are recently entering into Islam. There are complications within any aspect of of a religion that is spread to different parts of the world.
There's over 2 billion Muslims and so many ethnicities, so naturally, you have different opinions. But the base of Islam is the same. And that's really the focus that we are looking at. So that with a strong foundation, we can then began to understand some of the beautiful complexities within the Muslim world. Now fasting itself, many people fast. And recently, the intermittent fasting has become very popular amongst a lot of people, where they dedicate certain hours of the day to eating and then otherwise they don't eat.
They may drink so they may drink water. And you know, there's certain rules to intimate, it's an intermittent fasting. But the Islamic fast, and what is important, especially in the month of Ramadan, because the pillar of Islam.
Remember the five pillars of Islam, and from amongst them was Soma, Ramadan, the fasting in Ramadan. So it's not just fasting itself, because many people fast, but this is in the month of Ramadan.
And so this is something which is unique. And it is unique for those who have that spiritual understanding that this is a special time.
And so for amongst the many blessings of Ramadan and as we go through the month, we will be looking at different aspects of the fast and activities during the month and blessings. Prophet Muhammad peace and blessings be upon him said
when the first night of Ramadan arrives,
the doors of heaven are open wide, and the doors of * are shut
and the devils meaning the evil jinn are placed in chains, and angelic announcer proclaims also a virtuous come forward, also of corruption, restrain yourself.
And so, this is a special time.
And you can say to a certain extent, the spiritual heir is clear.
And so this is something which is unique to the mountain. There's not everybody has the sensitivity of the belief to understand this, because it is our understanding that Jannah that paradise, which is another dimension, other than the universe that we're living in, that paradise is already created.
And that Jahannam meaning the Hellfire is already created. And we are going through phases within the life of this world. And eventually, in a spiritual sense the souls will enter either into Jannah paradise or Jahannam hellfire. So but in this month
the doors of paradise are open
and the doors of hellfire are closed
and the evil Jinn
people use the word devil.
And earlier in our discussion, we understood that not only did Allah azza wa jal create human beings from clay, but he also created angels, Mala Erica from light. And so they are beings, but they don't have the same physical makeup. As human beings, the essence or the basis of their physical makeup is light.
And Allah also created the jinn from smokeless fire.
So their physical makeup comes out of fire itself. And in the same way that we are made up of the earth, and somebody might say, Well, I'm not a piece of clay, I'm not dust. But when you get weak, and you go to the doctor, he'll tell you, you need iron, you need calcium, you will need phosphorus you will need different elements that are in the earth.
Okay, so what that does, it's reviving your earthly side, which is your body.
So it's not it doesn't look the same as clay. But it's another form
that we have taken. And the same way that the jinn, they're not like a flame like that. But the elements within fire itself is what what is was used by the Creator, to make the physical bodies of the jinn.
Ramadan comes the jinn are in chains, the evil ones,
they are locked up. And so the whispering that you normally hear and we are taught that every person has a cut in everybody has a agenda that will come around some sort of whispering evil promptings that come to the human being. And this is what every human being has. And they asked the Prophet peace be upon him, what about you?
Because he's a human being too. And the Prophet SAW Selim said, I also have a Corinne.
But my Corinne is a Muslim.
So that's different, you say? He's got one.
Our current is definitely not.
But he has one but his accepted Islam.
The point is, that in the month of Ramadan, they're locked down.
So whatever you hear inside of your head, whatever negative promptings or feelings that you have within yourself, that's you talking.
And you cannot blame it on any external force.
Okay, so, Ginni, is the SEC, the singular, the gin. And when you say the shaytaan, or the devil Shayateen is used
to mean the devil's it can be the devil's of the jinn.
It can be the devil's of animals.
And some of the animals in terms of how the devil comes out with an animal so evil, a dog, a black dog with a white spot, right here.
Good, that's a description of a possible place where a jinn could enter also the scorpions
and snakes
if the snake enters your house, if the snake is outside of your house,
then there's nothing wrong with that.
But if the snake enters your house, then the jinn could be inside that vessel. Also lizards
and there was a certain lizard
that lived in Medina, that was identified as one that where the jinn could come if it's in your house. There was a and it made a noise because I lived in Medina and so we had the same lizards are still there.
Okay, and this one goes.
Like that. I don't know if anybody in the in the Caribbean has ever heard something like this, but that noise, that's the was of noise.
Okay. So, but the evil jinn, the devils are the jinn are locked up not the Devils of animals.
Also Shayateen is put on human beings.
And, but this does not apply to Ramadan. So the devil is amongst human beings. And we can see some devils in this world, right? Look at what's happening. Look at Phyllis
to him and let us see some devils, what has happened to these people, I don't know.
But they could be classified the ones who are committing these murders and, you know, atrocities there could be classified as shayateen. And it's so they would say in English and Arabic, the devil is of human beings,
the Devils of the jinn
put in chains,
okay, and so that means the spiritual air
is clear.
And an angel den says those who want to do good Now is your time.
And those who are don't want to do evil who are involved in evil, God, stop, because it's Ramadan.
So Ramadan has a special type of atmosphere
that no other time of the year has. And that is a blessing. And that's why people look forward to Ramadan.
Because in that time,
spiritually, the air is clear. It's like fresh water as opposed to drinking polluted water.
It spiritually fresh, so easy to make connections with Allah subhanaw taala easy to deal with yourself.
Right. And most people find this out and this is a difference between somebody who fasts, a non Muslim for instance, there are many good people amongst the non Muslims who say I want to fast with you.
I want to I want to experience it. And so they will fast, they'll get up in the morning and whatever and they'll fast the day.
But I've experienced this I've heard people say that when they were a non Muslim, and they fasted
and when they were Muslim, and they fasted wasn't the same.
It's like, you can describe a mango
beautiful descriptions, but when you taste that's something totally different. So the taste of Ramadan
and this experience is something which is special. I want to open the floor for any questions. Again, this is a workshop if anybody has any questions concerning anything so far, and floor is open. Yeah.
That was for bad things.
black dots on your heart
to Me
Do they have any relation? No. Though when the duck spot is what it's what it's described. This is just something spiritually that happens to the individual but it's not knowing that they don't have a relationship although sometimes as a result of what they whispered it caused the person to do something and then that created the spot standard but but there's no real relationship between the two. Okay, so the question
just don't whisper to you what are your making up your fast another day outside of Ramadan?
Okay, if the person makes up their fast outside of Ramadan because you know as we had learned earlier the Quran you know, says that you know, Allah said quotevalet camassia so fasting has been prescribed upon us so it is obligatory act so if you if a conscious Muslim was mature and sane and not sick and not traveling in the month of Ramadan does not fast
they're committing a sin.
Okay, that is a sin that goes on the scale of bad deeds are the Day of Judgment
Okay, so
if the person for valid reasons couldn't fast and they make it up then they take care of that sin
of missing the fast that's taken away
but it's not Ramadan.
So the west the whispering is going to be there.
Okay, it's still a fast but it's not summer Ramadan special when Ramadan comes in.
And people have different experiences
and some strange things I mean, I strange thing happened to me when I was living in Medina
the beginning of the month, because it says when the first night of Ramadan hits, so the beginning of the month is determined by the Hillel. So this is the first sliver of light
that comes
in the sky.
And so when that lunar month begins, Ramadan begins.
And there is some discussion about that for new Muslims, people reviving, don't worry about the arguments and discussions, you know, concerning the month of Ramadan. Right. But basically,
when it comes in
it changes.
Now
some people, the Prophet peace be upon them did say, look for the moon
began your fast with the moon
and ended with the signing of that hill all right. But if it is cloudy,
if it's cloudy,
then you don't have to fast because you didn't see it if it's cloudy, right, but he said you'd need to search for it.
Okay, so traditionally,
it was, you know, searched for
to confirm that the month is coming.
Okay, now,
as time went by, and people were able to develop scientific data science of astronomy,
okay, so we were able to tell
different movements, you know, of the sun and the moon. For instance, when you when you pray, you pray at a certain time at noon, and then you are just after noon, and then you pray the midday. And this used to be measured by the length of, you know, a stick, that they could measure it by the shadow.
Now we measure it through calculations.
And we're able to get a prayer chart with calculations.
Okay, so and I don't want to go get too complex with this, because it can get confusing.
So we do we don't measure the shade. We look at our prayer table.
Okay, and that that is a reality. But at the same time, the Prophet did say, fast according to a citing
used word citing, you see. And so this is where some people say, Okay, I still want to be sure with the citing.
So
the middle position
is that if the calculation say it's impossible to cite it,
it's impossible to cite it, you know, then we know it cannot be cited
at that time. And the calculations may say it's possible to cite it. So you can use it to rule out the time, but you still need to cite. So that's the position of a lot of Islamic scholars in terms of starting the month. Other people say, Well, if the overwhelming possibility of citing the moon is in, and we see it clearly with the to the calculations, then we will go with this. Because overwhelmingly it's in
and generally speaking, the calculations do not really contradict the sightings. On some occasions, there are some contradictions, but generally speaking, they don't really, you know, contradict and so more and more communities and scholars are going with
the calculations.
Although still, people want to confirm by the citing.
Okay, and if there are any questions, you know, later on, we can, you know, we can go back to that, but I don't want to take up the whole period. You know, based on this for those of you who may have heard some of these arguments, the point is
when the first night comes in,
why do you think the prophets are seldom said Ramadan? The first night? Why do you think he said that?
Does anybody know?
He didn't say when the first day come in.
That is because there was darkness before light.
So our day begins at night.
So Mugu epsilon
after sunsets. That is the next day.
And this is interesting, because when I first went to Medina,
a really good friend of mine.
He said to me, I'll meet you, at the Prophet's mosque on Thursday night.
Okay, but he said Friday night, I'll meet you on Friday night. So I said, Okay. And I have a mind from the West, right. So Friday night.
I went on Friday night,
like tonight, this is Friday night.
And then the next
I saw my friend and he was really sad. And I said, like, what happened? He said, I was waiting for you for two hours.
Because Friday night for him was Thursday night. You understand? Because Friday starts in the evening, you get this in Arabic, they say, later to Juma. The night of Juma is what we call Thursday night. But for me, I have my mind here in the West. It's Friday night.
This is Friday night.
You see, then I realized, Oh, no. And that's important for you to know, as you go through the month, because as we go along, you will see that there are special events that take place in the month, based upon which day it is.
And so you have to be sure about the day by realizing that that evening is when that day began.
So if it said, for instance, the 21st night is a special time.
Right? Don't wait till the 21st day and let it go to the night. You see, because that's the 22nd.
Okay, as we go along this, this will come clear. And
so the spiritual air is clear. And this is one of the first great blessings in the month of Ramadan.
Another motivating factor for those who are believers. So if you're fasting out of belief, that is different than somebody who's fasting, just to get the experience, because somebody might say, Well, I tried intermittent fasting, I tried fasting with dates alone, I fasted you only have so many types of fats. So you say I want to try the Islamic fast. So they will go through the whole fast, but they will not have the same mindset, your mind, and your spirit has great power over your body.
And the motivation and your mind will have a great influence. And the Prophet SAW Selim said, if somebody observes fasting, while maintaining its limits, and shunning foul speech, and in decencies, his fast will blot out his sins.
That means that if it's done properly,
and the whole month Ramadan and accepted, then your previous sins are forgiven.
That's a big thing.
And later on, we'll find out that these sins do not include the major major sense, but the basic sense will be clear. So this is motivation. So persons fasting now you realize that when you do this, there is a great reward. And we as human beings, we need we rewards because that's life. So this is a motivation, motivating factor for us. And, and something special about the month of Ramadan, that you're not going to get in other times of the year. Okay.
Any questions on the rewards? And you know, we'll see. And, you know, as we go along, you'll see so many rewards online question. There are some questions or comments on pins and needles. So, okay, this one is not real quick. These descriptions of gyms and angels are comparable to Christian doctrines. What is emphasized in church teachings is that was used to be right.
The only differences as it seems like they
are very much in common. Yes. So So what the question is that in Christianity and other religions, people in the book, they also have discussions about angels and about demons, you know, devils, you know, as well.
So, is it the same or is it different? The difference is, the angels are a separate creation from the jinn. They're not the same creation. And the difference with the Christian Christian perspective is because IBLEES Satan, the major evil devil, who refused to bow down to Adam, the chief of the jinn. According to the Christian, he's an angel.
They say he's a fallen angel.
So he's an angel that turned bad.
That's not our belief, because we believe angels cannot turn bad. He is jindee and the jinn have taken choose between right and wrong.
So you have some Jinn that are actually good.
They're not evil,
and they live in a parallel world.
Not like our world.
Okay, but
you know shaytaan? Well, he has a biller. He
is He made his choice. And it is reported that before the creation of Adam, that IBLEES was so pious that there was no place on Earth, where his head had not touched in frustration to Allah.
He was so pious that he was put into the company of the angels.
So, when Adam was created,
Allah said bow down to Adam to the angels, and they all bow down, but at least he didn't bow.
Okay, now the Christian thing is, he was an angel, but he went bad.
No, he's jindee. But he was really good Ginny at the time.
And he refused to bow down.
Because he had a choice. And so he was cast out.
And you'll find that the Jewish belief and the Islamic belief, very similar, if you go into Jewish theology,
it even the words because Hebrew and Arabic are Semitic languages. So you will see a lot of similarities. Because it comes from the same source. The only differences we believe that the Quran is the final book, which has not been tampered with. Whereas the other books have been changed. They've been things have been deleted, things have been added. In the case of the Christian book, the injeel. The Gospel, it was lost.
Totally lost.
Okay, but the beliefs that's why we call Christians and Jews people have the book
because they have something of the book with them.
All right.
Any other questions online? Yeah. Okay. Yeah, go ahead.
What will happen to
so of course, the Iblees, you know, he made his choice and he is going to be punished. And in terms of the other, you know, gender himself,
they will have a reward, you know, with our law, not the same as people. But the good will have a reward will Allah
but it's not the same as people that have question about previous slide. So that the one where if fasting is done, right, like all your students would be forgiven? That's right, is it the same effect as if you go to hatch?
Some something similar, because if you do the Hajj properly, the pilgrimage, then you come back, like a newborn baby, all the sins are forgiven, but the Hajj is actually even more
because we'll find out later on.
That the sins there's another Hadith that says, it wipes out all the sins except the Kabbalah the major sense.
So if a person committed murder, fasting in Ramadan is not going to wipe out the murder.
But all the other things, the indecency, the swearing, the lying, and the other things which are not considered to be the major since they will be right.
So our fasting day,
as we said, just looking at it,
you wake up in the morning, and give yourself 45 minutes, sometimes an hour based upon how how much you'd like to prepare your meal before, sorry, before dawn, when Pfizer comes in,
okay, so Pfizer is coming in, for instance, at I don't have the times right here, but if it comes in, for instance, at 530, you know, whatever, maybe you can look so we get more specific, you know, then get up at 430.
Like, give yourself time
based upon how much preparation you would like you know, to make.
Okay, and then it's better to stop even 10 minutes before it comes. But you can go right up to the time of dawn. Monday six at 618.
Right? So 618 So therefore,
approximately, you know, then, you know, 518 everybody will have a chat, and you can follow them. Okay, so that meal
is your morning breakfast. That is your soul, we call it and the prophets of salaam said to Sahara for interfacility Baraka, he said, Take That morning meal, because there are great blessings in the meal. So take it, even if it's something small, and it's recommended to be something wholesome like
For instance, you have oatmeal and you know, whatever things that you do something solid, you know some people like me your brothers especially like your scrambled eggs. You want an egg or something like that fine. Chia seeds.
What was that? Chia seeds?
Right, the oatmeal is better than less have something that will stay with you, right.
And I would avoid
foods that too spicy.
Although people like their pepper,
but if you eat the spicy, really salty food, then later in the day, it's going to be with you
see, and if it's too salty, you're going to be thirsty too.
So, so think about that, you know, when you're preparing your, your morning meal,
okay. And then you go into your day, now during the day.
It's complete abstention from not just food and drink, but any obscene
indecent act
complete.
And it's not just physical even watching it.
So it's complete. You stay away from it. Also, you try to master the praiseworthy virtues. Right? patience, kindness, serenity, being calm, right? Calm.
And the Prophet peace be upon him said if somebody comes and starts arguing with you,
and they start arguing, then don't argue back with that person. Then you should say in the saw him, tell him I'm fasting.
And do not involve yourself in the argument.
But definitely, you know, from our experience, you will find that people after Assa in the late afternoon,
people tend to be very irritable, especially males, brothers themselves males, they're hungry, right?
And so, people get irritable after awesome.
And they make you say something and they argue with you. Don't continue the argument. Right? Just say I'm faster
and faster avoid even though it's a juicy argument. And you know, you have the answer to knock them out.
Right? Don't knock them out. Don't do it. Right, because you're supposed to be calm.
Right? So Ramadan is going to calm you down. You should also avoid all forms of evil deeds, like backbiting,
making fun of people like mocking, lying, slander,
right yelling
all of these things, screaming unless, of course, it's necessary to screaming someone's, you know, to try to help them from falling off a bridge.
You know, but keep it low, your voice shouting all of these things, right negative words, any actions that are opposite to Islamic concepts. We abstain from these things. That's the fast right. So really, you'll see that the biggest part of the fast is not the food and the drink.
Because you might have been doing that already and you're intermittent fasting.
But the big one is yourself
to not fall into evil actions during that time
to try to change your character.
So that's the whole day. Now you can see the benefits. Because if a person does that for 29 or 30 days, they should be a different person at the end of the month. They shouldn't be the same person.
Right? So it's actually helping you question backbiting and slandering with wooden break the fast are notified when the person's backbiting they get on the phone you say okay, this person I don't like him I don't like her you're talking against them. It doesn't break your fast but you'll lose the spiritual benefits.
So you're losing spiritual benefits which is which is important to us in the month of Ramadan.
So the fast continues and then until sunsets and we should try to break the fast immediately.
So that means that even if you're driving on the highway and 401 is really getting bad now. And you know if you know that you're going to be stuck on the 401
then carry with you some water and dates. Like carry it with you so that when
The time comes in to break your fast, even though you might not be in a position to pray at that point, you can break the fast.
So try to break it immediately. Don't let it go. And it's not some special thing that you're doing here because you, you go longer know, the Sunnah is breaking right away.
And this is important, as you'll see, because it gives you a rhythm.
And once that rhythm you get into the rhythm, it makes it easier for you to continue to the whole month. Right and makes it easier to do other things other than faster.
You got to break the first week will be a little difficult, you know, to get into the rhythm. But once you're into that rhythm, then you'll see here you can really now open up to other activities.
Because your bodies, your body gets the signal.
Right, because your mind has got great control over the body.
And now and we're motivated to do this.
And then in the evening,
we
then continue on. And we had learned that there is the prayer of Tada we
which is the evening prayers in the month of Ramadan.
And after Isha, which is the night prayer,
so that is Tada, we, you can do it in the mosque with a group or you can do it at home.
If for some reason the person couldn't make it or didn't make it, it's okay. Because it's only extra press. It's not obligatory. And we discussed this last week.
And you can make eight units eight rockets.
Right or you can make 20.
Both of them sunder the prophetic way,
you have the choice of you know of either of the two, and you'll find that masjids generally will do eight or they'll do 20
Our master is one of the unique mustards and you have a dedicated group that does eight. And then you have a group that stays for the 20.
And people tolerate each other.
And other mustards they get a little nervous if you're not doing it their way.
Okay, but here, you have a choice. Okay, question here in the last night.
So even if you do 20, they'll come back in the morning. Is there any differentiation between that and this given? Yeah, so So what it is, is that
you can continue on with a pm as well.
The real difference is, there is a prayer call Witr Prayer. And that is the odd number that the process allows us to do. You know, at the end, three extra units or one Maliki school. It's one it's an odd.
And if you're going to do more prayers later in the evening, especially in the end of the month, don't do the winter prayer.
Because that should be the final prayer of the night. So then the person would do with the Jamaat and then they could do later because the number doing eight or 20 is only
just a guide.
But it's not a big it's not like the whole prayer for and you decide, well, I think I'll do five. No, you have to do four.
Right. So this is the this is different. What is
the um, you know, we haven't got another one we're going to go into, but that's late night Tahajjud prayer, and the last third of the night, especially you will find in the last 10 days. And as the month goes on, we're going to have more classes, we will go into it in more details, but the last third of the month, that is really the time where there's such great spiritual blessings that people will come back again and the last third of the night and they will pray at that time as well.
Okay, now, just just to continue on for this month is considered to be shadow Quran. This is the month of the Quran. This is the month when the Quran was revealed. It was originally revealed in the 27th night of Ramadan.
Okay, and so, what the Prophet SAW Selim, you know, did and this is the authentic hadith, and it said during the month of Ramadan, the prophet acted more generously than any other month. And he was more generous when Angel Jibreel visited him every night. The angel that Gibreel used to visit him and teach him the Quran.
When Gibreel visited him, the Prophet was more bountiful in giving them the winds that move freely. So he would really give and be kind and, but this is do so so the angels come into the profit during this month
and even reviewing at the end of his life, the whole Quran.
So therefore, we should try in the best way that we can, there's no fixed amount,
but try to study the Quran.
And if you can't, if you don't understand Arabic, you can get a good translation.
And you can go through sections of it.
You know, we have a lot of facilities that are online and you can get, you know, good translation. So try put emphasis many of the big scholars in Islamic history, they dropped all different subjects, some are good and Hadith, the prophet sayings, some are good and FIP, that's Islamic law, they dropped all those classes, and they focus on the Quran itself.
And it's not just reading it, you can practice take some of your time, try to learn to read it in Arabic.
Okay, also read your, you know, this tafsir if you can get explanations of it, that explain like even kalithea is is one where his his explanation is translated to English. So you might be able to get a translation, you can get certain things online, now there's a lot online to get explanations of the Quran itself. So this is this is one of the focal points of the month.
Right, which which makes it special.
If you can, if you are revived Muslim, you know, and you want to get into a good discipline, one good thing to do is
the Quran is divided this 30 sections of it. So if you can read a juice, which is like a section, every day, at least
by write one job or one section of it, or you can do more in the mass like this one, they'll do one and a quarter like they'll do a little bit more.
But on our own, if you can read through at least the section, it's a really good
goal to set for the month. If you could even read through the English translation of the whole Quran in this month, that will be an amazing achievement. That will be really good.
But whatever you can do, as long as you do it with sincerity, that's the key.
So there's no quantity. But it's really based on sincerity. Because some people read it, you know really fast and they go through and everything like that. There's no sincerity.
They're just like parrots
making sounds
right? We don't want that. If you just read something slow, and understand it. That's how the companions were, they would read a small section
and then pause and understand it.
Not go Go, go, go go.
They would they would. That's the key thing. It's quality and not quantity.
Also in this month,
and these are some extra things that that you could do is Amara, you remember the fifth pillar of Islam which we'll come to later on in the year when it comes and that is the pilgrimage to Mecca. You try to do that once in a lifetime. There is the greater pilgrimage that happens in the 12th month of the lunar calendar to hit
but there is lesser pilgrimage called Amara.
So in other words, you visit Mecca, and there's certain actions you do. You do toe off, you know go around the Kaaba, you know seven times you there's certain things you do you know in the thing you pray to Ricketts you know there, you know drink from zamzam. We run in between software and Moto, the mountains. So there's certain acts that you do. It's called ombre. Okay, that's what that means. The Prophet SAW Salem once asked a lady one of the sisters of the answer. The answer was the people of Medina. They were the ones who took care of the immigrants when they came from Mecca to call the answer. So he asked the Sister,
why didn't you make Hajj with us?
Now look at this, look at the relationship between the prophet and women, right. Some people act like you're not even women are invisible, right?
He had enough sense of this sister. He knew she didn't come to Hutch.
It's not his wife, right? But he had sense of the people in his Jamaat, even the female members of his German
And then he asked her, you know, why didn't you make Hajj and she told him, she could not make it because she couldn't find the right the means of going to Mecca. And then the prophets of salaam said in that case, you should perform and Amara in Ramadan
for an ombre performed in Ramadan is like Hajj with me.
So if you could do that,
which if somebody's arrived revived Muslim you already and the new Muslims, that's going to be maybe out of your range.
But if you're reviving your faith, and you can, unfortunately, we have a lot of groups that actually
tour groups that will take you there and bring you bring you back
in Ramadan, if you could do it in Ramadan, and come back is great blessings. Now the question may come and I'll answer it before it comes.
This does not take the place of Hutch.
In other words, making pilgrimage is a duty to us
that during the month of the hedger because there's a lot of things in this. So this is you get the blessings, of making Hajj with the Prophet. But it does not fulfill your Hutch.
You have to still go to pilgrimage, if you're able to once in a lifetime.
Okay.
Floors open for questions.
Couple online, okay. Yeah.
For new Muslims that do work that is physically taxing the construction and labor work
and attempt to fast but find that is difficult. Should they wait until or break their fast. Okay, so the question is, if a person is doing intense labor, and they have difficulty
in you know, should they break their fast or not? Did he say what happened? What happens to him to something happened? He just said it's strenuous work. Okay.
Ramadan is not supposed to stop you from doing your work,
you should still do the work. Obviously, it's better to inform, you know, your your boss, that you're fasting, if you have that kind of relationship. I know, in one case, I remember brother came to me that he was on an assembly line, you know, the assembly lines, right.
And it's everything's moving through, you can't say the bus while I'm fasting. And I can't do this, no matter the whole vehicle might fall apart. Because you didn't put the wheel in.
So you have to do it. But you need to regulate yourself. If it reaches the point where his is physically and dangerous is going to pass out, then that person may be classified as sick member if you're sick.
Right, then you can make up make up the day.
But Ramadan is not supposed to. It's not a vacation from school and from work.
We're supposed to continue along. In the work that we do. However, if you have strenuous work, you obviously tried to cut it down.
And if you if you have a relationship with your with, you know with with your employer, you let them know, you're fasting, maybe you can do something on the assembly line that's a little bit lighter
than the other people.
But we should still fast. We're not running from society. We're not monks hiding in monasteries. No, we're part of this society. And that is that is the unique part of the Islamic fest, that we're actually going amongst people.
We're in society. But we're fasting.
And this is going to give you you're going to see later on in our discussions is going to give you a type of insight on everything that's around you. Because the rest of the people are they spent half the day looking for food. Are they trying to get a coffee? They're trying to get this to try to get that you're not looking for food, right?
That side of us turned off.
So the other side, it's like widening your eyes.
Your senses are different, right? Because the animal sense, which is hunger, *
turned off.
So you're like, in a sense, like an angel.
You're like an angel. So nice description, right? You're an angel.
So you can't act like a devil right? You can't be fasting and listening to some you know music and they're swearing.
Okay, can't do that. Get has to be a complete fest.
Okay,
any questions on this one? This is Omar and Ramadan.
So this is the month of patience.
Yeah, question.
Are you fasting?
No, you don't, you don't have to.
Now, some people when you reach the place when you're on the road, especially, but when you reach the place, you could still break your fast to come back. However, you can fast once you've gotten to the place, and you got to be there for a week or two weeks or whatever. You could take some of the days and fast, but it's actually not, not necessary. But the owner itself is going to be strenuous, especially with the Muslim world as it is right now. Making goomba and Mecca is like,
there's almost there's almost a million people there. It's unbelievable. So you will be tested,
strenuously to be in Mecca at that time. Great experience, if you can possibly do it. So this is the month of patience. Saba is the word and Saba.
Perseverance. Right? It's a very important quality. It's one of the great qualities of a believer. It's perseverance. Okay. And
Ramadan will help to strengthen, you know, your willpower, determination.
Right, these are important qualities. You This is one of the greatest
qualities of the Palestinian people.
Because the see what they're going through, and they still believe in Allah. Right. They're still, you know, fighting back.
Other people, some people are accepting Islam just watching them.
Or they say like, what motivates these people, right. Part of what motivates them is that they are fasting people.
They have a tradition of sober
of patients. And once you develop that tradition of patients, you see it in Afghanistan, the Afghan people when they were under attack, under sanctions in the cold and they still they maintain themself.
Other people will go crazy.
But they have a tradition of patients
is very important. Now patients can be divided into three parts. This is one of the scaly looks at there is a Saba Allah's Ma Ma. And that means you have to have patience, on those things that Allah commanded you to due.
To obey Allah. In other words, you have to have patience, persevere, to make five press.
You have to have patience, to live in Islamic life, especially here now in this world.
So you got to have perseverance and patience to do this. That's one form of patience. And another one is in patience and staying away from forbidden things.
Okay, that's a lot of patients.
Okay, and finally, there is patients are sobre el marcador. And that is to have patience on in facing the trials and tests of life. Those things that have been prescribed the will of Allah, because it's things somebody dies, you get sick,
things are gone, you have to have supper,
you have to have somebody you have to hold.
Right and Ramadan strengthens this. It will strengthen our resolve.
We don't have a problem.
We continue and that is a great quality.
In
I like this picture. You see those see the plant, they're coming out of the cement. That's a lot of patients that our plan has right.
It wanted to come up
and it just continued found its way and then the sun and the rain.
That takes a lot of patients.
So these are some of the qualities in the month of Ramadan.
Some of the blessings that we're looking
okay floors open for any general questions anybody has concerning these points or any other aspects of Ramadan so far
that we've covered.
floor is open.
So at this point in time,
based upon
what the calculations are saying and people who cite the moon, you know, believe
Sunday night would be
He,
the first night of Ramadan.
And then so so so that night, some prayers will start at the different brushes but that morning, that's when you gotta fast, right? So Sunday night, prepare yourself. Don't look at the chart and say Sunday. So you're going to wait till Sunday afternoon?
No,
that's it's Monday.
Okay, so Monday morning,
the fasting will officially begin.
But it comes in at that time. Now, you'll always have some slight differences. You might hear that somebody in, you know, New Zealand or in Pakistan or somewhere another day. There's some differences of opinion. But I mean, the world is such that if on one side, you're doing one thing, another side, do another thing like brother Farhad you might have he came here to win a class when he's in Malaysia right now, right?
So when you're in Malaysia, I've been there many times, this is like 12 hours difference, right?
So like, they're going to be doing something totally different to us.
They might be breaking the fast and we might be starting our fest, like this 12 hours difference. So there's always going to be some slight differences, that's okay.
It's nothing to get nervous about.
Right, or to look down on somebody be angry. If there's some differences, you know, in time and whatever, that's fine.
Okay, but but this is how, you know, basically, it's gonna be starting and the following week,
or that following Friday, next Friday, there's no class at this time, however, on Sunday,
Sunday night, we will have our new Muslim corner. And this is going to be one hour before sunset.
Or before before we break the fast, right? So on that day, we said it's, you know, we could say it's going to be around
six 615.
Because it'll be around
seven 720. So we'll say 615. Inshallah, and even those online, if you want to come on line 615, we'll have a class, and then we'll break out fast and then in sha Allah, there will be a meal. So we will also have an Iftar meal, you know, here, so you can, you don't have to, you don't have to cook that night. Right, you can have, there'll be a meal here provided, and then we'll stay here and discuss and whatever, and we will freshen up. And then when Isha comes, that's when your night prayers come. So you can experience the night prayers here. Or if you don't feel well, or whatever subject you can go home.
The point is, is that we want to continue the lessons because questions are going to arise. This there's got to be an there's more issues and Ramadan that you need to know about as they come.
Because we need to know how many people are coming. We can't just have everybody show up. Okay, so please make sure that you respond.
Okay, so everybody here is going to come for next Sunday.
Is there anybody who won't be able to come? It's all right, right. It's not a duty.
Don't worry.
Okay, well ask you in the poll, you know, whatever. Okay, so.
Okay, so as long as everybody's included in that.
And it's no problem. If there's extra people, you know, there's always, you know, extra food we share. However, we're not making a public announcement, because you might,
because we might turn around and have you know, 50 people waiting outside the door in the line.
Right.
Question? Any any other final questions online? Anybody has.
So this will continue inshallah for the three Sundays. The fourth, the last Sunday of the month, is a special time that you'll learn it's the last 10 days. And there's so many things happening that we're not going to have it. You know, that last one, and then it'd be the end of the month that we can shave. I think you're doing the lecture on the Saturday night. No, it switched for me to do the first one.
Yeah, no, it switched generally, I do the first one generally. So you're also welcome to come on this Saturday coming because we have a group if
so, there's a lecture that will start one hour before same time around 515 or so. And it goes right up until
the break and then then you you break fast with everybody in our community, which is a very nice thing to do.
Especially for you know, young people, new Muslims, you know, whatever kind
gives you that group feeling. Islam is a jamaa. We are a group.
And that's very important. Quality to break fast with other people. You have identify when other people, right.
So that's next set. That's Saturday coming. Okay, not tomorrow, but
next week
any other general questions?
Okay, so floor is open for any general questions anybody might have.
Yeah. When you mentioned the snakes or other animals and getting her house, she could do other. Yeah, so that is a good question about the bot the evil Jen. So, you know, you know, if any of these animals enter your house,
then you should you actually tell it, the Sunnah says that you say to it leave.
Right because of the agenda, they get taken here, you. So you say leave. And if it doesn't leave,
you know, then you you have to, you know, we don't want to kill, but you just get it out.
And I was living in Medina, and we had scorpions, and we had snakes
that would come in the house. I live with Bedouins.
And so sometimes they will get inside the house. I went to a city called socoto. This is northern Nigeria.
Desert. And I stayed in the guesthouse. And they have this lizard. It's like yellow and black.
And so I looked into this lizard, he does things on my wall, right. So I'm thinking sunnah,
you know, so I said, Leave fresh and didn't want to leave, right? So I looked and it was a stick or something. So I chased the thing. And I chased it and ran outside. And I chased it and then
some people saw me, you know, and then the next day, you know, my host, he said, Brother, Abdullah, the people are they're upset with you.
Because they have a relationship with the lizards. It's something from their customs. Like
maybe they have their religion before Islam or something. I don't know. But they have a relationship with these lizards like and you're not supposed to.
You know, manhandled elicits.
It told them what to teach them the sooner I didn't kill it, but not in my house outside fine. But not inside my house.
Okay, so fortunately, in Canada, we don't have those things running around in our houses.
Okay, but if it ever does happen if you travel
then
it's only in your house right? It's not outside.
So we're not chasing lizards and snakes and things but if it gets inside your house
and it can if you're living in that type of society, I was in Medina, you know, my family was there and you know, my wife,
Sister Karima. You know we finally were really poor. So we were finally poor students. So we were able to get a washing machine.
So we had because normally you have to wash with your hand we lived simple life. So the washing machine is going around and one time so then I turned and look and so this thing came up the washing machine like it was a snake
and it came out of the washing machine
you know like that, you know, so we had to like get it out
you know, but these things can happen
Hey, let me tell you let me tell you
Yeah, question so is it grounded upon to have reptiles as pets?
Yeah, generally Muslims will not have reptiles you know as their pets I've never heard of any Muslims.
There's nothing you know Muslims have.
The other thing about the dogs right? Because the dog the black dog with the white spot. Muslims tend to be really paranoid and afraid of dogs. But we're not afraid of dogs. We actually have dogs, but our dogs hunting dogs.
And if you have animals sheep, he does dogs take care of your sheep.
But the dog stays in the dog house.
doesn't sleep in your bed. Like what has happened in Western societies?
Because what's the problem with the dog is the tongue.
The tongue is carrying impurities because the Jassa so the dog licks you
it according to the Hadith The Prophet said if he licks in your bowl, clean it out seven times. With water the last time put some dirt in the water and clean it
What Why do you think he said put dirt in the water and clean it? Anybody can guess. It's like a detergent. You know, detergent breaks up
sticky things, right?
So the little stones, it sort of breaks up.
You know, whatever is sticky in that,
you know, cuz they didn't have you know, tied. They didn't have, you know, so you break it up, you know with that is the tongue. So just don't let the dog lick you.
If the dog bumps you
or something, that's okay.
But the dog the problem with the dogs with people's dogs the jump on you, they, you know, the people they treated like like their children.
So we do we do have pets. But the dogs stay in the dog, the cat
is an animal that we let come into our houses.
Because cats different than the dog cats got spiritual sense.
So cats,
you know, okay, I'm allergic to cats, so I can't have cats. But if you're not allergic and the cat did move around, it's not like a dog.
In Istanbul, the Turkish people
they love their cats. And they take care of the cats. And the Ottomans used to build, you know, you have the stones,
cobblestone. So they would have every tent, tent cobblestone has a little edge in it. And when it rains, the water comes in there. So the animals can drink.
And they have bird cages in their parks, and places for the animals to drink. Basically the cats
so there's nothing wrong with the cat.
Question, the dog saliva?
Is that common across all metopes? Or Paul dogs? Common across what?
Yes, that, that, that that's common.
Now, that's everybody.
Some are a little more strict. But the thing is, is that, you know, in the time of the Prophet peace be upon him, the dogs are in the Hadith, because they said that when you're hunting,
you know, and your dog, you know, gets the bird, then you should still sacrifice. So it's in the Hadith that the dog got the bird.
So everybody knows that.
As a matter of fact, we have some of the best dogs in the world, right?
You know, the Greyhound dogs that they run in the racetracks.
They come from Arabia.
We have beautiful dogs, you know, the Afghan dog, the tall one with the long blonde here, some Afghanistan.
So we have dogs.
Right, but we don't they're not part of our social life.
They're doing different things, you know, taking care of God in your house at night. You know, the animals or you know, whatever like that.
The way that we take the way that we believe that genes are associated with the animals that come into your house, right, right. The ones that live in the wild
jeans are associated with them as well. It is possible especially the specific one the dog with a black dog with a white spot
that that is possible.
You told us a story a while back both us brothers went to a masjid in the States. And there was a lot of signs that it was a weird question. And you said there was a dog that came up to you was that? Yeah, it had a white spot.
Came what I said to the brothers, that's the first sign.
The other side was when we came in, because they were the so called Sophie's group. They had these Hindu idol things all along inside.
And then the third sign was when the time for prayer came. One of them came joined us and he didn't know how to make salad. He followed us. Okay, that's the third sign. These people are not practicing Islam. So we nicely excused ourselves and we left.
They call themselves Sufis. But it was almost like yoga and there's some Sufis are not even Muslims. They just do thicker like yoga, like Harry Krishna, Rama, Rama
this society there's even societies in the GTA like that.
Yeah. Okay, so we'll break for Salah and inshallah we'll see you again next week. Next Saturday. If you come it's a big day. Place will be crowded, nice vibes. It's really worthwhile coming. Otherwise on Sunday inshallah. We'll see you then around around on
What do we say 615 615 inshallah
okay I don't 109 I've been added me the salam aleikum wa rahmatullah
