Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu.
Inshallah momentarily we will continue with our lecture
on the lesson from the seerah of the
Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam.
Today we will be speaking about one of
the great companions.
Of course we have been speaking about the
martyrs of Uhud.
Tonight inshallah we will be speaking about a
companion by the name of Sa'd ibn Rabi
'ah from the Ansar.
There are a couple of stories that are
amazing about this great companion of the Prophet
salallahu alayhi wa sallam.
So inshallah if you are able to stay
please do so.
I think I have it streamed.
It is being streamed also on our YouTube
page.
So you can follow on that also.
And inshallah again we will continue right now
momentarily.
If you can just stay please do so.
I bear witness that there is no god
but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad
is His servant and Messenger.
O you who have believed, fear Allah as
He should be feared, and do not die
except as Muslims.
O you who have believed, fear your Lord
who created you from one soul, and created
from her her husband, and gave birth to
many men and women.
And fear Allah with whom you ask for
mercy.
Inna Allaha
kana alaykum And
not only that, it destroys your wealth.
And you might still not be enough because
you are spending it in that which is
not beneficial.
Because it never benefits you.
Except for that which you take in, that
is from halal.
And so we learn also hard work.
We continue with the story.
Alfa bayna wa bayna Sa'd ibn Rabi'ah
Ibn Rahman ibn Awf was paired with Sa'd
ibn Rabi'ah.
And how did they pair somebody?
When you compare the time of the Prophet
ﷺ with each other, they were paired to
help each other spiritually.
To help each other in every aspect of
their lives.
Because you have people who are Muslim.
And so anytime you have a new Muslim,
for example, he's not comfortable with the status
of.
In the same way when somebody goes to
a new country, even though he's Muslim, that
he doesn't know the area.
He doesn't know how to get there.
They were of similar status.
So they felt comfortable with each other.
Or they had something that was in common.
So that they would feel comfortable with each
other.
Or it was to help each other.
Meaning it was something that wasn't just.
They weren't the same type of people.
But they were to complement each other.
So if somebody was of this status, or
somebody who was good at this, or somebody
who didn't, somebody who didn't feel good, then
all of a sudden they would work together
very well together.
That would be something that was complementary.
And so it was to establish a new
society.
And of course there wasn't no welfare system
or anything like that.
Or they get taken care of by the
government.
It is your brothers and sisters in the
city, in the town, that would take care
of them.
And so they were very, very generous.
And Sa'ad ibn Rabee'ah, he was
one of the most generous states.
He said, Anas ibn Malik Rabee'ah mentioned
him about the story of Ruhman ibn A
'ud and Sa'ad ibn Rabee'ah.
So when the Prophet ﷺ compared Sa'ad
ibn Rabee'ah, he brought the Ruhman ibn
A'ud to them.
He called for some food and they both
ate.
And so immediately Sa'ad ibn Rabee'ah,
he says to him, Let me
take the
one that you like.
You thought it was unheard of, right?
So he has two wives.
He said, okay, sometimes you might say, some
people might say, okay, I have two wives.
This is an opportunity.
Let me give them this one.
Give them the other one.
I don't like this one.
I would rather eat that one, right?
Now he says, choose the one that you
want.
The one that you like, that you prefer.
He said, good.
I would divorce her.
And so this is called the equality.
This is what the companions of the Prophet
ﷺ had.
You know, they preferred others even though it
didn't help.
And of course, you're not allowed to marry
anyone without their approval, of course.
Like if a woman does not want to
marry you, then it's not something that's permissible
to force someone to marry without their approval
if they don't want to.
Whether the person is young or old, you
can't force someone to get married if they
don't want to, of course.
Of course, it's after that.
All of this is based on the approval,
of course, also.
But the companions of the Prophet ﷺ, they
had this peace off.
They had it with
themselves even if they were in dire straits.
And so it's not just as the message
of Allah ﷺ.
Because he
loves for his brother, but he loves for
himself, right?
That's mandatory.
We have to do that.
We have to love for our brother who
we want for ourselves.
Every Muslim should be like that.
But that which is praiseworthy, the level that's
praiseworthy, the level that's mandatory, is the first,
is loving others like you love for yourself.
Loving for others like whatever you love for
yourself.
But the level of preference, the level of
ethos, that's the praiseworthy level.
And so, when he says this, Abd al
-Hamad ibn al-A'ud, some people might
say, okay, yeah, I'll take that.
But he says, he said, no by Allah,
he said, no by Allah, I don't want
to take it.
And he said, but he says, that he
called him, I don't believe in Hadith.
Gates, everybody eats gates, you know.
First degree refrigeration or anything like that.
And gates are one of the most efficient,
one of the miracle foods.
It has so many uses for it.
It has fiber, nutrients, and it's a clean
food.
It's the perfect food.
Even if you have diabetes, you can still
eat gates.
They say, the best thing is to eat,
if you want something that's sweet.
that's why when you break your fast, you
start off with gates, and you're able to
start off with that.
You have that, and you start off with
gates also.
And he says, he says, I'll
give you half of it.
I'll give you half of it.
But he's giving half of his wealth also.
And he has other wealth.
He says, I'll give you half of it.
And so, some of us might say, this
is not a little bit.
Well, because he was so rich, he sat
in the ravine, he said, I'm one of
the richest people in the region.
So, now he's giving him half.
You're going to be like one of the
richest people in the region.
We're not doing anything.
Right?
So, this is the sacrifice that they're willing
to give for the sake of Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala and for faith and iman
in Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
So, he says, I'll give you half.
So, many people would say, okay, I'll take
it.
I'll take half.
But he says, no, la.
May Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
take care of everything.
We'll work on the to
raise dates.
You know, grow dates.
They don't know how to grow dates.
Growing dates is not easy.
You know, you're not a farmer.
Somebody gives you a land to farm that.
What are you going to do?
You're going to sell it, right?
You don't know what to do.
Right?
If you're used to buying and selling, you
think, well, I can't do that.
And so, they said, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi
wa sallam said, no, don't do that.
And then the Ansar, they said, oh, no,
okay, we'll take care of it.
So, that means that you have a half
of society, or half, the muhajirun, all the
muhajirun.
They're going to be depending upon other people.
And that's not a good thing, right?
So, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said,
why don't you work the land and ask
your brothers from the muhajirun, from Shia, from
Mecca, to help you.
And then when you harvest, then you share
the harvest.
You can give them some from there, if
possible.
But let them help you also.
That way, the people from Mecca, now they're
here, they know how to do things.
Right?
So, don't give them the land.
Let them help you on the land.
And so, that's what the Messenger of Allah
sallallahu alayhi wa sallam did.
But here, again, he said, no, I don't
need that.
And so, he goes, he said, show me
the marketplace.
So, he went to the marketplace and he
started buying, you know, Sam, and Akif.
Sam, is, you know, the oil, and the
cooking, and things like that.
It's like tea.
Like those, that's
Akif.
So, he started buying and selling there.
One day, he said, he said, he said,
he said, he said, he said, he said,
he said, he said, he said, he said,
he said, he said, he said, he said,
he said, he said, he said, he said,
he said, he said, he said, he said,
he said, he said, he said, he didn't
have a wife.
He wasn't married when he came, right?
He didn't, he wasn't married.
When he came, so the Prophet of Allah
said, Rahim, Rahim.
What is this, hey.
What's going on?
He's like, what's going on?
What's this?
And of course, sometimes when it's on your
face, you don't know.
So, you see the the remnants of this
on his face.
And he goes, Rahim.
And he said, you don't know who I
am.
I just got married to a woman from
the Al-San.
And then he says, you know, because he
didn't have any money.
When you get married, what do you need?
Dowry.
He says, well, where did you get the
money from?
He said, I gave her a nugget of
gold, a piece of gold, a gold hand.
And that wasn't enough for a nugget of
jade seal.
So that's a pretty significant, right?
A nugget of gold, that's not cheap.
And so he says, the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi
Wasallam says, how old is one of these
hands?
He said, you have to have a Waliha.
So that even if it's just one, one
piece or one gold or whatever it is
that you need, even if it's just one
hand that you slaughter, a piece of gold,
and so forth.
Why?
So that people will know that you're married.
So if they see that, oh, wait, that
comes out.
Right?
So you know, oh, that means he just
got married.
He just got married.
And so that's why the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi
Wasallam said, Nikah wa istifah, the difference between
nikah and istifah is like dinah.
Nikah and dinah is striking on the jug.
That means you have the Wali.
They got together and they
would use the jug to celebrate.
And so Sa'd ibn Rabi' was someone who
was very, very, very, very, very, very generous
and kind.
And of course, as I mentioned, his status
was well known amongst the companions of the
Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam.
In fact, one time, Um Sa'd, Sa'd ibn
Rabi' the daughter of Sa'd ibn Rabi' entered
upon Abu Bakr.
And Abu Bakr laid down to some people
to sit.
And Iqbal came in and said, he asked,
who is this?
This is the daughter of someone who is
even better than you and me.
Who is this?
Abu Bakr.
And this is Abu Bakr.
And so, of course, this was because of
the – we know that Abu Bakr and
Umar are better, but it was their humbleness.
Their humbleness and humility.
He didn't say, oh, he's really good.
We're better than them.
It was not humbleness and humility.
So Abu Bakr and Umar saying this, oh,
this is the daughter of someone who is
better than me.
Right?
Because of their humbleness.
But it shows how much they respected Sa'd
ibn Rabi' Right?
Sa'd ibn Rabi' And this is the khalifa.
And he said, this one, why?
So he said, why?
Why is that?
Why do you say such things?
The Rajab al-Qurbi, the Ali Ali al
-Qurbi, this is someone who passed away here
at the time of the Prophet ﷺ, that
has a place in Jannah already.
Abu Bakr said, it's just me and you
right now.
Right?
He has already had this place in Jannah.
He was a martyr during the time of
the Prophet ﷺ in Jannah.
And Sa'd ibn Rabi' of course, because we're
speaking about Suhada' al-Uhud, and so when
he entered the battle, Qadar
Rasulullah ﷺ, man ya'feeli biqadari Sa'd ibn
Rabi' He
said, someone give me some information about the
whereabouts or some information about Sa'd ibn Rabi'
He said, I know, you don't talk, not
many of the narrations I mentioned were made
in the fabric.
And so this, and so he says, Qadar
Rasulullah ﷺ But he started looking at all
the people and Sa'd saw him and said,
what is it?
Well, what are you looking?
He said, Sa'd ibn Rabi' is injured very,
very great, very severely.
And so he said, oh, now Ba'ath
ibn Rasulullah ﷺ is actually the Prophet.
Yes, indeed.
The Prophet ﷺ And so he thanked him.
Sa'd ibn Rabi' said, Falham ilaih, bring me
a salam.
Send my salam.
Send me, send my salam.
So Sa'd ibn Rabi' is making dua and
thanking him for the sake of Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala.
And so then he also says, Innal ilaykum
faakhzirhu an yuqadru'il Sa'd, I
have the last one.
I'm about to die.
He said, And he said, Faakhzir qawlan.
Go, go tell your people.
Go tell the Ansar.
Go tell the Ansar.
Like this is a man from the Ansar.
He's the messenger of Allah ﷺ.
Any of you are in Allah, excuse
me.
And he
also said, He's saying, he's telling the people.
So if these were your last words and
you know that no one else, you don't
have any, you know, you don't have any,
what do you think he would be saying
to you?
To Sa'd ibn Rabi' he had his family,
his wealth and so forth.
Some people might say this, right?
Tell her I love her.
And tell, and go back, you know, like
take care of my kids and this and
that.
What do you think he would say?
I'm about to die.
But what did he say?
He's speaking about what?
Speaking about the gene of Allah.
Generations.
He said, you know, he said, Sa'd ibn
Rabi' said, What did you guys
promise on the night of Ahlul Bayt?
What did they promise?
Just like they put a kiss to Umar.
He said, He
said, You have no excuse.
If the messenger of Allah and his family
passed away, you guys still have eye and
eye is still blinking.
And so, when he, when, when Ubaidullah returned
to the Prophet he said, he told him
what, what, what Sa'd ibn Rabi' said to
him.
And so he said, He
said, May Allah have mercy upon him.
He continues to advise for the sake of
Allah and his messengers.
He advises concerning the gene of Allah.
Gene is based on a gene of Masih.
Till the end of time, in death, in
life and in death.
When he was alive, he was always advising
people to be obedient to Allah and his
messengers.
And even when he was about to die,
he was to be truthful, to be faithful
to the promise that they promised him, the
Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.
So he's advising for the Prophet dead or
alive, even when he's about to die, he's
still, so this is a Muslim.
A Muslim is someone who always advises.
Even in the last moment, he reminds people
of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
And so, you're buried, and you're in a
different, you're not in individual graves.
Some of the graves have two, some of
the graves, but sometimes they're put together and
you're in one grave in the battle.
We learn about sacrifices that he gave for
the sake of Allah.
And those are the times that he's returning
a blessing to everyone.
He's rich, that's what he's getting.
It's not like he's giving, he's giving half
of his wealth to somebody, right,
to somebody who's a stranger coming from another
town.
It's not like, oh, somebody's your relative, your
aunt, your uncle, your brother, your sister, right?
No.
He's giving this, and he's sacrificing, not only
himself, his wealth, for the sake of Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala.
And so Allah gives them blessings and wealth.
But we also learn from the Prophet Noah.
If the Prophet Noah, he could have just
taken, he'd give you some, okay, I need
it.
Just give me enough for a few days.
Like enough money.
What does he do right away?
He says, no, no, no, you're building on
the soup.
Let me go into the marketplace right now.
Let me go to work.
Let me go to work.
That mentality, in that mindset, in the mindset
of someone who does not want to take
advantage of other people, he wants to earn
his own money, in a halal manner.
So he's going out, he goes and buys
the shells, some oil, he buys the shells,
you know, the curds, the peas, and so
forth, whatever it is, until finally he has
enough.
He has enough to even get married.
And some of us have spent a lot
of time just to get enough money to
get married.
So I have to work really hard.
It's just a few days, he's working really
hard.
But it's also because of his kind of
mindset.
He's not depending on other people.
He's not begging.
Because when you open the door to begging,
what we have, we want more.
Right?
Some people, instead of, he doesn't have anything.
He has nothing.
So it would be okay if he were
to take, right?
I don't have anything.
If he didn't, let me take some.
Okay, don't give me half.
Just give me a little bit of money
for enough for the next two months.
Right?
No.
Nothing.
He didn't take anything.
He said, just show me where the marketplace
is.
Show me where the marketplace is.
He goes.
And that's why Abdul Rahman Ibn A'ud
was one of the richest amongst the companions.
They're rich.
They're wealthy.
Because they're generous and they're kind.
So some people, they might say, well, you
know that brother Mashallah, he gives a lot.
But he has a lot.
That's why he gives.
No.
That's not the case.
The case is because he gives.
That's why Allah gives him a lot.
Because he's generous.
That's why Allah gives him a lot.
Because he works hard.
That's why Allah Subh'anaHu Wa Ta-A
'la gives him a lot.
And that's why the Prophet SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam
he said, lau annakum tatawassaluna ala Allah if
you were to put your trust in Allah
in the way of la razaqakum shaman yaratukum
shbayt he would provide for you just like
he provides for the birds.
He goes out in the morning with an
empty stomach and he comes back with a
full stomach.
Why?
Allah will give you.
He gives you.
He will provide for you.
But he provides for you but you have
to do this.
But then they just sit there and they
say, okay, ya Allah, you know, say, ya
Allah, you
know, you know, ya
Allah, you know, say, You
