Sorry for the delay today.
Inshallah, continuing
with our series here in the month of
Ramadan, the stories of the prophets from the
Quran.
And every day when we take a look
at these stories, we try to extract a
particular lesson
that we can derive benefit from.
We're still
continuing on with the different stories
from the life of the prophet Musa Alaihi
Salam
that are mentioned in the Quran.
Today,
inshallah, we're going to be looking at
a very powerful and remarkable
story
from the life of Musa alayhis salam that
Allah tells us in the Quran.
And
the lesson that we're going to be discussing
today is something that is a bit
heavy.
And it's very powerful.
And that lesson
in kind of a word is
martyrdom or shahada.
What is the
what is the reward of it? What is
the status of it,
and the very powerful place that it holds
in
Islam.
And that story relates to
when Musa Alaihi Salam
stood in the court of Firaun,
and he called them to Allah,
and he told them to fear Allah
and to free Bani Israel
and to believe in Allah.
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala, Fir'an, of course, obviously
responded
very negatively
and aggressively.
Allah
gave Musa Alaihi Salam
miracles
to be able to
silence him
and to force the people
to consider
the truth of the message that Musa alayhis
salam had brought.
And the miracles we've talked about previously
in the previous session when Musa alayhis salam
threw down his staff and it became the
snake and the serpent.
And when Fir'awn saw this,
Fir'awn responded the way that, unfortunately,
a lot of times we see in the
stories of the prophets that some of the
enemies and the disbelievers,
they would respond
where he's
responded very skeptically.
And
he arranged
for an
entire display to be able to challenge
Musa Alaihi Salam and these miracles. And
the Quran tells us about this
where he said,
Musa.
He says that you want to use this
in order to
usurp our power.
And so he said that I'm going to
bring
the magicians to come and challenge you and
to expose you
for
what you are basically doing here.
And
Fir'aun sent his people out into the land
to gather together all the
magicians,
the illusionists
that they had all throughout the kingdom and
gathered them all together.
And one particular narration
in the books of Tafsir mentions, he gathered
together 70,000
magicians and illusionists
and these kinds of
individuals who would have these little kind of
parlor tricks
to try to confuse people.
And then they picked their national holiday
that there would be this huge
event,
that it was a national holiday. All the
people from across the kingdom would be brought
together. It would happen in a big arena
where everyone could witness what would occur.
And it would happen in the morning time,
and everyone would gather together so they could
see it very clearly.
In Fir'aun, once he felt like he had
his entire plan together, then they came to
the arena.
And then they basically challenged Musa Alaihi
Salam.
And when they came into the arena,
Musa Alaihi Salam said to them,
You can go first
or we can go first.
So
they said to Musa Alaihi Salam, you can
go first or we can go first. So
Musa Alaihi Salam
y'all go first.
So the Quran tells us
They threw down these ropes and sticks
and it was a kind of an optical
illusion
that they had mastered
where it made it seem under the sun
that it made it seem like their sticks
and their ropes were moving.
So the idea was that these were snakes.
And
initially,
because of the whole kingdom gathered together,
they're in this coliseum kind of arena.
And there's all these tens of thousands of
people standing across from them, and it's just
Musa alayhis salaam and his brother Harun alayhis
salaam with him. For a moment Musa alayhis
salaam naturally as any human being would felt
a bit intimidated.
But Allah inspired to the heart
of
Moses.
Do
not worry. Do not fear
because you will come out on top.
And then Allah inspired to Musa alayhis salam
throw down your staff with the name of
Allah.
And when Musa alayhis salam did that,
the Quran tells us
And it actually became that huge serpent
by the will and the power of Allah.
And it swallowed up
all the little ropes and sticks that they
had thrown down.
Tens of 1,000 of them.
And swallowing up all their sticks and their
ropes. And then return back to Musa, alayhis
salaam, where Musa, alayhis salaam, again grabbed that
huge serpent by the head and it became
his staff again.
And when that occurred,
these magicians
who were brought
there as
a ploy
of were
brought there to try to defeat Musa.
They
were genuine
enough with that when they recognize this, when
they saw this, they recognize it for the
truth.
And they immediately all fell down in sujud
and prostration.
And they proclaimed in one voice,
We believe in the Lord that Harun and
Musa, alayhim,
are representing.
When they all believed in front of everyone
that had gathered there to witness
according to Fir'an's plan, the downfall of Musa
alaihi salaam. And when it all got flipped
and they ended up believing in Musa alaihi
salaam and following him,
Fir'an was infuriated, and this is really the
part of the story I want us to
focus on today.
He said, you believed in him before I
gave you permission.
And unable to accept the reality, Fir'aun said,
you must have been colluding with him,
and you were conspiring with him.
And then he threatened them
that either you stop,
you give up what you believe in.
You concede.
You accept defeat
or
I will torture you first.
I will tie all have all of you
tied up,
and then I will have your limbs
severed from your body.
Gruesome.
Then I'm still not done with you. So
while you're there, maimed, bleeding out
in horrific pain and torment and torture.
I will then
hang your bodies from the trees here.
And the Quran has a particular
linguistic nuance
here. He did not say,
but he said,
I will hang your bodies from these trees.
And once you are dead hanging from those
trees, your bodies will not be cut down.
You'll be left there
to rot.
Your bodies will be left there to rot
hanging from those trees
to make a sign of you.
And then you'll know
who you should fear more.
Now this severe threat is being issued by
one of the greatest tyrants the world has
ever seen. 1 of the most notorious,
nefarious human beings the human has ever witnessed,
that that the world has ever witnessed.
And these
previously, these the people that were magicians who
are now believers,
they hear this threat,
but they believe in something. They stand for
something.
They know the truth. So what do they
say?
We will not
listen to you over the truth that has
come to us,
and we will not be afraid of you
over the one who created us.
Do your worst.
Do whatever it is that you want to
do with us.
What's the most you can do? You can
end our lives in this world.
That's
significant.
But still, all you can do is end
our lives in this world. If if I
was going to die 5 years later or
10 years later,
somewhere
else,
you're just ending that life right now,
but you cannot change our place in the
life of eternity.
We believe in our lord.
So that he can forgive us.
And Allah will forgive us for you forcing
us to come into this arena to begin
with and face off against the prophet of
God. We are hoping for the forgiveness of
our Lord. We have believed in our Lord,
and we will not
change course.
We have put our faith and trust in
Allah who is better and long lasting,
and we put our faith and trust in
Allah for all of eternity.
In the books of Tassid mentioned
that actually
carried
out his threat.
It was one of the most gruesome days
this world has ever witnessed.
70,000
human beings.
The scene that was witnessed afterwards
was that you just had like
human limbs
scattered
everywhere.
And then you had their maimed
bodies
hanging and roaching from those trees.
That happened. That occurred.
But Allah
tells us
that what was the ultimate reward
that these people
received from Allah
Allah
goes on to tell us in Surataha
that
That the person who ultimately
will have to stand before Allah as a
criminal,
as was,
reserved for them will be the fire of
*.
And they will not be allowed to die
in that fire of *, no matter how
terrible it becomes,
but they will not really be living either.
They won't enjoy life nor will they be
allowed to die.
Misery for all of eternity,
pain for all of eternity,
regret for all of eternity.
But these people
who gave their lives for what they believed
in,
They will come before Allah on the day
of judgement as believers.
People who believed and stood firm for what
they believed in and made the ultimate sacrifice
for what they believed
in.
They made the right choices.
Allah will grant them the highest levels in
paradise.
The paradise that will last for all of
eternity.
Rivers and streams flowing from beneath their feet.
For all of eternity.
That is the reward of the people who
make the right choice.
And this is such a powerful example
of when
some people in this world
are given
such a difficult choice,
but they make the right choice in that
moment.
And it ends up in them making the
ultimate sacrifice,
but then the reward
that Allah
has reserved for them. In the tafeez session
this past Thursday,
I mentioned the Hadith from Sahih Muslim
in which the prophet salallahu alaihi salam said
that someone who is a shahid,
a marcher,
they lost their life for believing in Allah.
They were innocent. They were oppressed.
They were tormented and tortured.
But they stood firm and strong.
And ultimately, they were killed because of that.
That they'll be brought before Allah on the
day of judgment on the day of resurrection.
And Allah will ask them,
is there anything you want?
Is there anything I can give you?
And they will say repeatedly to Allah, Oh,
Allah, you have given us everything.
What more could we ask for?
We are grateful. We are humbled.
And Allah will ask them again, and they
will respond the same way again. And Allah
will ask them again, and they will respond
the same way again, expressing gratitude and humility
before Allah until they finally realize that Allah,
subhanahu wa ta'ala, demands an answer from them.
And then they will finally say,
if we
must ask for something
than what we ask for, oh, Allah,
based off of the reward that we have
seen
and what we have experienced from your blessing
and your kindness and your generosity and your
mercy and your forgiveness.
That we be returned to the life of
this of the life of the world,
so that we can give our lives for
you once again.
And we would continue to do that over
and over and over again.
And this is what it means to be
a shahid,
a martyr.
And
while this is a very powerful story that
we can always learn something from,
I also felt that this was very important
for us to talk about
because we collectively as an
have
witnessed
in just the span of a few months
30, 40000 of our brothers and sisters
be shahid and martyred.
And so
while we
stand up to and speak against the injustice
and we call it out for what it
is,
But when we look at the numbers and
the losses,
in
that moment,
we should only
feel stronger
and we should never ever feel defeated
because
the outcome
of those
innocent souls
whose lives
were ended,
that they were killed, they were massacred,
that they are shahid and they are martyrs.
And this is their reward.
May Allah
accept our brothers and sisters in Khazza as
shuhada
and as martyrs.
The conviction and the faith in the iman
to see the truth for what it is.
Request that I wanted to make of the
community.
One of our very,
dear friends and someone
who supported the work that Qalam does for
a very, very long time,
And he was a leader in our DFW
Muslim community here.
Numerous
efforts of his that people benefit from Masjid
Al Rahman in Carrollton, the Carrollton Masjid,
the North Texas Islamic Council,
the MMA,
and various organizations, Doctor. Amer Shaqeel.
He is
very, very ill.
And only Allah knows, but based off of
what,
the doctors
have assessed at this moment,
he's potentially in the final stages of his
life.
And so we make dua that may Allah
envelop him in his mercy.
And may
Allah grant him
and
grant him ease and mercy in his transition.
And may Allah
grant him the companionship of the Prophet
and may
Allah give his family strength. And may Allah
