Abdul Nasir Jangda – Stories of the Prophets #19 Desperation
AI: Summary ©
The speaker describes a conflict between the people of the tribe of the pharaoh and the oppressors, where a member of the ruling class, identified as Musaddis, became increasingly aggressive and frustrated. The situation leads to the development of a character called Musaddis, who describes himself as a "arson alays freighty alays freighty alays" and becomes increasingly desperate. The speaker emphasizes trusting oneself and not stealing animals, as well as the importance of not rushing to obtain a job or marriage proposal.

Today, inshallah, we're going to be talking about
or first and foremost, obviously, continuing
with our series here in the Maghre Madan
and the stories of the prophets from the
Quran. And we specifically focus on rather than
tell the whole story,
we
focus on referencing the story and then extracting
some kind of
a valuable lesson that we can live by.
Today, inshallah, we're going to go into the
story
of the prophet Musa, alayhis salaam.
Musa alayhis salam is the most frequently spoken
of prophet throughout the Quran.
And therefore,
we know a lot about his life from
the Quran. There are different events and moments
from his life that Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
tells us about
and that Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala references in
different places in different ways.
However, today
we're going to talk about one of the
the very earliest story of the life of
the prophet Musa Alaihi Salam
that is told in the Quran
was something that we covered in an earlier
saying.
Talking about the
mother of Musa Alaihi Salam
and her
trust and reliance upon Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
The Tawakkul,
that trust and reliance upon Allah. That was
the moral of the story.
Today, we're going to move a little bit
forward in the story and the life of
Musa alayhis salaam.
And there was something that was referenced in
the previous
session on Musa alayhis salaam
That as we know Musa alaihis salam was
from Bani Israel.
He belonged to the Israelites.
He was from amongst them.
And he knew that
and the people knew that.
But nonetheless,
because
he was adopted as a baby, taken in
by the wife of the pharaoh,
Asiya Imra'atuh Firaun,
and became the apple of her eye.
He was raised in the palace of the
pharaoh, Firaun,
and he
enjoyed
the ability to be able to move about
amongst the ruling class
of the Qiptlion, the people of pharaoh.
And
what that led to
was a huge kind of inner conflict for
Musa alaihis salaam.
While he lived and moved amongst
the ruling class,
he knew that he belonged
to the people
who were oppressed
and enslaved and tormented and tortured.
And this is something he struggled with.
And Allah tells us in Surah Al Qasas,
surah number 28,
that
one particular moment and this was alluded to
in the previous session as well and I'll
I'll narrate it very quickly so so that
we can get to the moral of the
story, the lesson for today.
He's in the marketplace
and he comes across a confrontation
and that that that confrontation
is occurring
between one of the people that belongs to
the tribe of the pharaoh, the ruling class,
the oppressors,
and the other individual on the other side
of this conflict
is a member of the Bani Israel,
the Israelites,
the people that are oppressed.
And
Musa alayhis salaam when he sees this because
what typically occurs in these scenarios is that
the ruling class is committing some kind of
an oppression
amongst these people.
So he steps in
and he
basically
says that break this up.
There's no need for this.
Go back to your ways.
Mind your own business.
The man who belongs to the ruling class
of pharaoh,
he obviously takes this very personally.
And so because he's used to having his
way.
And so
and he particularly
becomes very then confrontational and aggressive towards Musa
Alisa.
He steps up to him
and he gets in his face, so to
speak.
And he starts yelling and shouting and getting
physically kind of like shoving him, pushing him
and being aggressive with him.
That just
because you're the lap dog of pharaoh's wife,
you think that gives you the right?
Tell me what to do?
And more and more, and he's just getting
more and more aggressive.
At some point,
right, there is the right to defend oneself.
So that's what Musa alayhi salam does does.
Musa
alayhi salam shoves him, pushes him off of
him,
but the might of Musa alaihi salam is
such, the might of all prophets is such
that the man falls
and dies on the spot.
It's also like somewhat of one of those
kind of accidental scenarios.
It's not a murder.
It's more so just kind of like an
accidental death.
And that's why Allah uses that wording where
he says fakada alihi. It was that man's
time.
And when that occurs, the man who Musa
Alaihi Salam came to his defense,
he scurries off, he runs off, he sees,
oh, I don't wanna be a part of
this situation.
Sometime later, Musa Alaihi Salam is passing through
the marketplace,
and he sees that same man whose aid
he had come to
fighting and picking a fight and arguing with
someone else.
So Musa, alayhis salam, becomes very frustrated
that this terrible thing happened
because I thought you were oppressed.
So I came to your rescue, and then
here I find you picking fights with people.
So he goes up to him and he
goes, hey, what's your problem?
Why are you doing this?
Don't you think it's hard enough for our
people?
When the man sees this,
when the man sees Musa, he saw him
and he hears him,
He panics,
and his character is kind of understood at
this point what is the character of this
man.
So he immediately
sells out Musaddis.
He goes, don't murder me like you murdered
the other guy in the marketplace the other
day.
at 12:32 PM. Right? Like that.
Right? That guy
points a finger right away.
Anything to save his own skin
and that's it.
The news spreads.
Musa alaihis salam, he's not sure what he
should or shouldn't do.
And a man
comes to Musa alaihis
salam and he says
that
you need
to
Look the pharaoh has never been particularly fond
of you.
His wife insists on you and so he
kind of has no choice, but this will
give him exactly the excuse he's looking for.
So they are all consulting and they've decided
they're going to murder you. They're going to
execute you. They're going to make an example
out of you.
So get out of here, leave town, get
out of dodge,
and I'm an advisor for you. I want
what's best for you. I don't wanna see
you hanging from the gallows.
So Musa alayhi salam takes his advice
right there at that spot wherever he's at,
doesn't pack a bag.
He doesn't got time for anything.
Doesn't get to say farewells.
Nothing from that
spot where he is told this information.
He leaves there. And he's looking over his
shoulder.
The entire kingdom
is after him.
Looking
over he says, oh, Allah save me.
So he travels and travels and travels and
travels until he finally he's got nothing. He's
just got the animal that he's riding. He's
got no food, no water. He's got the
just a shirt on his back.
And at some point, the food and the
water has run out, and the animal is
tired and exhausted and fatigued and cannot continue.
So he arrives finally at a place called
Madyan.
And we had spoken about this in an
earlier session.
And so when he arrives there, now Madian
is a little bit more of a,
you know, green and very
abundant place in terms of nature.
Forest and trees and
springs and water and green and all of
that.
So he arrives there
and he's tired. His animal has basically given
up. He hasn't eaten or drinking anything in
days. He's been traveling nonstop. He hasn't slept.
He's tired. He's exhausted.
He's hungry. He's thirsty.
He's
still
fearful that someone's chasing him down. He's still
looking over his shoulder. He's got no family.
He's got no friends. He's got no supporters.
He has nothing but the shirt on his
back.
That's it.
This is think about how desperate his situation
is.
The desperation.
So he sees a tree,
and that's the only luxury that he has
to enjoy in this whole world is that
is the shade of a tree.
So he goes and he sits down under
that tree.
And when he sits under that tree,
he makes dua to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala
and
he says
Think And and I'm gonna translate it.
He says, in my lord,
indeed, I am desperately in need
of whatever it is that you can give
me.
Think about how desperate
a person has to be
to the point where he's not even asking
for anything specific.
His desperation has gotten to the point when
when even making dua to Allah, he's saying
I will take anything at this point.
I will take anything.
Think of that desperation.
And that's the lesson for today is desperation.
What do we do
in that moment where we feel truly desperate?
Where we have nothing, no one,
no recourse, no solutions,
no routes,
no outs,
nothing.
That Musa alayhi salam is teaching us
that you turn to Allah. You you might
not even have the words
to make a beautiful eloquent dua, but you
don't need to. You just need to just
spread your hands and you just say,
oh Allah
help. That's it.
That's all I can get out.
But he turns to align his moment of
desperation
And what transpires?
The Surah tells us earlier
as he's sitting there under the shade of
the tree,
he
sees that there are
2 young ladies.
They're very modest, they're covered, they're kind of
keeping their distance and it's kind of an
area where it's all shepherds.
They're caring for their flocks.
So it's all men, but then you have
these 2 young ladies and, you know, they
don't wanna get in there. And there's only
one well, one watering hole. So they don't
want to get in there and shove and
push and elbow and do all that. So
they're standing off to the side quietly
and they wait and they wait and they
wait and they wait And the sun is
out, it's the afternoon time.
And Musa Alaihi Salam sees that,
and he feels bad.
So he goes there
and he says,
can I help you?
What's what's going on? Is everything okay? Can
I help? And
they said, they said, we can't go and
get the water until the crowd dissipates a
little. And if you're wondering why there are
2 young ladies doing this man's job,
well, it's because we don't have any brothers
and our father is very, very ugly.
So we have to do it.
We have to take care of ourselves.
So Musa alayhi salaam says, why don't y'all
go have a seat there under that tree,
in the shade of that tree? I'll take
care of this. No, no, no, no, sir.
We don't, you know, no, no. It's okay.
Just trust me. Go have a seat. I'm
right here. You can see me from here,
Not stealing your animals. I'm gonna take care
of all this for you. They say, okay.
They go sit down, Musa Alaihi Salam takes
care of it. He comes back and he
gives them the animals. They say, how much
do we owe you? And he says, you
owe me nothing.
And
they go back home.
When they go home, they get home very
quickly, very, you know, early.
And so the father is curious and they
also report to their father
that
a gentleman, he helped us today.
And so the father says, well, why don't
you go and call him to the house?
I'd like to show him my appreciation.
And when
they come and they get Musa alayhis salaam
and Musa alayhis salaam
goes to the home
and the father meets him there, and the
father sits him down, and they start talking.
And it just through from that interaction that
he's
the that he's the modesty,
the decency
that he's conducting himself with is really admirable.
And the father is obviously taken with him.
He says, this is a very
impressive young man.
And the daughters also suggest to the father,
hire him. We need a lot of help
around here.
Why don't you hire him?
And the father,
he says to Musa alaihis salam, he says,
I have
a proposal for you.
I'd like for you to marry my daughter,
and I'd like to give you a job
working here on my farm.
And Musa alaihis salam accepts
the proposal, both of them.
Now he's married and he has a job
and the Quran tells us he works there
for about 8 to 10 years.
And
Musa alaihis salam was in that desperate moment
where he had nothing but the shade of
a tree and the shirt on his back.
But he turned to align his desperation where
he didn't even know what to say.
And Allah, Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala, provided him. He
had nobody and nothing.
And Allah
provided him with family
and Allah provided him with a job,
a place to live,
bread on the table, a roof over his
head.
But the most fascinating part of it
is that Ibn Kathir
from multiple narrations, from Abdullah bin Abbas and
Abdullah bin Masood radiAllahu ta'ala Anhu,
he says that the father,
the old man, the father
Musa Alaihi Wasallam's father-in-law now
was none other than the Prophet Shu'aib Alaihi
Wasallam.
So in his moment of desperation, when he
put his faith and trust in Allah, Allah
provided him with a job and, you know,
marriage proposal and a place to live and,
you know, food on the table. And that's
huge.
That's amazing.
But at same time, those are worldly things.
But Allah provided him with the mentorship and
the guidance of a prophet
and messenger of Allah for a decade.
And think about how important that was for
whom Musa alayhi salam is supposed to become.
And that's how Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala takes
care
of those who turn to Allah
when they are desperate.
That is how Allah provides.
Think about it.
Would that could he have even dreamed this
scenario
that I will get to live with and
learn from and serve a prophet of Allah.
But that's how Allah provides
when you turn to him
in that moment
of desperation.
And that is
the lesson that we learned here and that
we studied from the story of Musa alaihis
salam.
And we remind ourselves
that may Allah
grant us the ability to be able to
always turn to Allah
in all of our moments. May Allah Subhanahu
Wa Ta'ala protect us from difficulty.
But if difficulty knocks our doors our door,
may
Allah allow us to remember to turn to
him and only him in our most desperate
moments.
It was one more thing I intended to
mention. I forgot.
This is in quoted by Ibn Kathir
Abdullah ibn Mas'ud
says that after reading this in the Quran
and hearing the story from the Prophet sallallahu
alaihi wasallam
Later in my life, I traveled to Madyan
and I went on a search for the
tree under which Musa alaihi wasallam sat and
made this dua. And he said, I found
that tree. The locals told me this is
the tree.
And he said, when I went there, that
tree was huge and it was so green.
Even the trunk of the tree there was
there were flowers and, you know, things sprouting
and growing from even the trunk of the
tree. And I could feel and sense and
see that the blessing of Allah had descended
at this place. May Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala
make our lives like that as well.
