Arabic recitation.
We are going through surah Bani Israel and
today inshallah we are going to be starting
from ayah number 32.
In the previous lesson, we talked about the
prohibition of committing or killing your children and
as a side note we discussed the issue
of needlessly doing abortion.
So, related to that, the next ayah, it
talks about the prohibition of the thing that
leads you to doing the thing that was
mentioned in the previous ayah that is the
issue of adultery and fornication.
So Allah SWT says, Arabic recitation.
Don't get close to zina because indeed it
is something evil.
So, pay attention that Allah SWT doesn't say,
don't commit zina.
But he said, don't get close to zina.
What does that mean?
That anything that can lead to zina, anything
that can lead to adultery, anything that can
lead to fornication, that is something that needs
to be understood that it is prohibited.
So, in this society we have this whole
issue of boyfriend, girlfriend, free mixing, free interaction,
going to parties together, going to prom together,
going to dates together, meeting each other in
seclusion and all the time the person thinks
that this is a very innocent meeting and
we're just friends and so on and so
forth.
But they all fall into the category of
getting close to zina.
So, don't get close to zina basically means
that don't do anything that could lead to
zina.
And that is why it's prohibited according to
hadith that a man and a woman should
be alone together.
The Prophet SAW said that when a man
and a woman, meaning a strange man and
a strange woman are together, the third person
with those two people is the shaitan.
And according to another hadith, it's mentioned that
when a strange man and a strange woman
are together, meaning when you say strange, it
means people that are not related to each
other, when they are together, the third one
is shaitan.
What he does is he beautifies an ugly
woman in the eyes of the man and
he beautifies an ugly man in the eyes
of the woman.
So, the shaitan's fitna, the shaitan's tricks are
such that even in a situation where a
person thinks that I could never be attracted
to this woman or the woman thinks that
I could never be attracted to this man,
the shaitan plays these tricks and fools them
into doing something which is inappropriate.
So, anything that leads to zina, it is
prohibited with this and in this day and
age you have so many other avenues.
The issue of interaction on social media, interaction
through internet, through chatting, through text messaging, through
cell phone usage and so on and so
forth.
So many other avenues that a person can
fall into the trap of doing something correct
and we see politicians all the time doing
something, sending out a text message or a
tweet or something which is inappropriate completely and
that becomes the means of their downfall and
this is what is meant by don't get
even close to zina indeed it is something
evil.
And then on top of that we have
to understand the consequence of zina.
The long term consequence as a society, how
it is affected by zina.
You know, in this society it is very
very common to have single parents children born
out of wedlock, illegitimate children, nobody knows who
the father is and even if you know
the situation is that there is a stable
marital environment, there is still mistrust between the
couple whether the child is even theirs or
not.
All of these things are a by-product
of zina and a by-product of this
adultery becoming rampant in society.
One of the very strangest things that I
ever saw when my second son was born
was that when you are signing the hospital
papers to you know make the birth certificate
there is a side note at the bottom
where it says would you like to do
a DNA test to see if you are
the father or not.
So amazing.
Would you like to do a DNA test
to see if you are actually the father
or not.
Amazing.
But why has society come to this that
you know it has become so prevalent adultery
is so prevalent and fornication is so prevalent
that a person cannot even trust his own
wife that the child that she is bearing
is his or not.
So this is the by-product of having
zina in society and having it so common
in society.
And then the subsequent cause of this issue
is you know the single parents and not
having a stable family environment this results in
those children becoming older, being unstable and doing
things, engaging in crime and so on and
so forth.
By and large you know this is the
case.
You know you have isolated incidents where a
strong woman who is raising her children by
herself, she becomes mother and father and she
is firm and she takes care just like
a father would take care of the children
but for the most part this is not
the case.
And the children that are raised in a
single parent environment they go on to become
a problem for society.
They become an issue for society and they
become the criminals of society.
This is the by-product of zina.
So it's not just a case of you
know a person, Allah SWT just telling people
not to enjoy themselves.
It is a ruling which affects the society
the effect of society and the goodness of
society.
It is summarized in this verse of the
Quran in which Allah says وَلَا تَقْرَبُوا الْزِنَاءُ
Don't even get close to zina.
إِنَّهُ كَانَ فَاحِشًۭا It is something which is
evil.
Fahisha means something that is repulsive, something which
is wrong, something which is a sin.
وَسَاءَ سَبِيلًۭا And it is a bad way.
And this is what is meant by Allah
SWT saying وَسَاءَ سَبِيلًۭا He could have just
said it's evil but وَسَاءَ سَبِيلًۭا it's a
bad way to adopt.
Meaning the long term consequences on society is
is something very you know it will degrade
the society.
It will affect the society negatively.
So وَسَاءَ سَبِيلًۭا it is a bad way
to adopt.
So the long term consequences are what are
being mentioned here.
There is a hadith which should be pointed
out.
A very beautiful hadith in which the wisdom
of the Prophet A.S. becomes apparent in
how he used to deal with people that
used to ask him questions which were sometimes
inappropriate.
Abu Umamah relates أَنَّفَتَنْ شَابًا أَتَىٰ أَتَىٰ النَّبِيَ
صلى الله عليه وسلم فَقَال A young man
he came to the Prophet A.S. and
he said to him يا رسول الله اِعْذَنْ
لِي بِالزِّنَىٰ The Prophet of Allah give me
permission to commit Zina.
فَأَقْبَلَ الْقَوْمُ عَلَيْهِ فَزَجَرُوهُ The whole people they
turned to him and they started rebuking him
as we probably would do all of us
would probably say what are you saying how
dare you say something like this in the
presence of the Prophet A.S. and they
started scolding him وَقَالُوا مَهْ مَهْ they started
using words of rebuke against him the Prophet
A.S. said to him اُدْنُ come close,
come close to me فَذَنَا مِنْهُ قَرِيبًا so
he came close to the Prophet A.S.
the Prophet A.S. told him sit down
he sat down فَقَالَ أَتُحِبُّهُ لِأُمِّكِ would you
like this for your mother meaning would you
like somebody to commit Zina with your mother
فَقَالَ لا والله I swear by Allah I
would not like that for my mother and
then he asked him وَلَا النَّاسُ يُحِبُّونَهُ لِأُمَّاتِهِمْ
وَلَا النَّاسُ يُحِبُّونَهُ لِأُمَّاتِهِمْ no human would love
with their mother no human would love that
their mother commit Zina and then he said
فَتُحِبُّهُ لِإِبْنَتِكِ would you like it for your
daughter would you like your daughter to commit
Zina with somebody فَقَالَ لا والله يا رسول
الله جَعَلَنِي اللَّهُ فِي ذَاكِ he said no
I would not accept it even for my
daughter may Allah SWT make me sacrifice for
you the Prophet SAW said وَلَا النَّاسُ يُحِبُّونَهُ
لِإِبْنَاتِهِمْ no human would love it for their
daughters and then he asked about the sister
and then he asked about his aunt and
then he asked about all the different relatives
that a man could have pointing out to
him that the person that you want to
commit Zina with it is either somebody's mother
or somebody's sister or somebody's daughter or somebody's
aunt so if you don't like it for
your relatives then do you think they would
like it for their relatives think about that
so this was the lesson that the Prophet
SAW and then after that the Prophet SAW
put his hand on this person's shoulders and
said وَطَهِّرْ قَلْبَهُ وَأَحْسِنْ فَرَجَهُ Oh Allah forgive
his sin and purify his heart and protect
his privacy or his private parts so after
that this person he never paid any attention
towards committing this type of sin ever after
that so again this is something that we
need to understand the Prophet SAW also said
لَهُمْ there is no sin after the shirk
of Allah SWT after committing shirk with Allah
SWT that is greater in the eyes of
Allah SWT than when a person he puts
his seed in a place in a womb
that doesn't belong to him so again pointing
out the gravity of the sin and the
fact that committing adultery is a major sin
for which a person needs to make sincere
tawbah and sincere repentance after that Allah SWT
then says وَلَا تَقْتُلُ النَّفْسَ الَّتِي حَرَّمَ اللَّهُ
إِلَّا بِالْحَقِّ the next major sin is mentioned
that do not kill that soul that Allah
SWT has forbidden except with the right, we
have all of these terrorists committing all of
these atrocious acts worldwide killing innocent people for
no reason whatsoever except that they have a
different religion or they have a different name
or they're from a different locality so this
is a very clear ayah do not kill
any soul that Allah SWT has prohibited except
with the right, what is the right?
there's only three rights that a person has
to kill another person وَلَا تَقْتُلُ النَّفْسَ الَّتِي
حَرَّمَ اللَّهُ إِلَّا بِالْحَقِّ and then the judge
basically goes through it goes through the legal
system and then the capital punishment is provided
for him and then the second situation is
that المُحْسِن, the person who is married he
commits Zina and that also is done only
done when there are four witnesses present or
the person goes to a judge himself and
admits or the third situation is when a
person leaves Islam but again that has a
certain requirement that is has certain detail to
it scholars they actually say that a person
just leaving Islam is not sufficient it has
to be an Islamic state and the Islamic
state basically because the person is committing treason
against the Islamic state that's why he would
be getting the death penalty, not because leaving
Islam and this is actually pointed out in
a hadith the Prophet SAW he said that
that is not permissible to kill a Muslim
that testifies that there is only one God
Allah and that Muhammad SAW is his Prophet
except for three situations and نفس بنفس when
a person kills, murders somebody for no reason
الزاني المحسن the adulterer who is married and
the person the person who leaves his deen
and he is he separates himself from the
jamaa, basically he commits treason against society because
of that he gets he gets the death
penalty and according to another hadith the Prophet
SAW said the destruction of the whole world
is lighter in the eyes of Allah SWT
than the killing of a Muslim very very
very very you know powerful hadith which talk
about the prohibition of killing people then the
ayah goes on to say now the situation
is that a person he murders your relative
for no reason and now the judge he
decides the system the case goes through the
system the judge says that he is guilty
of the murder and now the relatives can
also kill this person Allah SWT does not
even allow zulm to take place against the
murderer Allah SWT doesn't allow a person to
do zulm even against a person who is
a murderer whoever was killed mazluman in an
oppressive way indeed we have given his guardians
sultanan the power meaning they have now the
power to take revenge when a person murders
somebody in Islam you have three options you
can either kill him or you can forgive
him or you can take something which is
called diya which is blood money so you
have these three options there is no other
option other than that so if for example
a person decides I've been given the opportunity
to kill this person I'm not just going
to kill him I'm going to torture him
I'm going to skin him alive I'm going
to burn him before I kill him I'm
going to really make him suffer before he
dies this is prohibited and this is the
ayah that prohibits it even a murderer you're
not allowed to do zulm against him in
the killing of this murderer a person should
not go to extremes and as long as
a person stays within the limits and in
the murdering or the killing of this person
in revenge he does it in a swift
way where he's not punishing him he's not
torturing him then this wali this guardian will
continue to get the help of Allah SWT
otherwise if he does zulm in murdering this
person then he will be held accountable in
the eyes of Allah SWT on the day
of judgement so this is the justice of
Islam that Islam does not allow zulm Islam
doesn't allow oppression and if a person wants
to forgive he can forgive even the murderer
Islam actually allows it unfortunately we get this
whole negative propaganda by the media nowadays about
you know barbaric killing and capital punishment and
so on and so forth Islam doesn't allow
for that even the issue of stoning a
zani to death it is only the case
of four witnesses or if the person goes
to the judge himself and admits to the
crime and then the judge decides whether the
punishment should be given to him and then
he is stoned to death it's impossible to
get four witnesses when a person is committing
zina the only other option is that person
goes himself and most people would not do
that so Islam basically it has checks and
balances and doesn't allow zulm to take place
it doesn't allow these kinds of things to
take place and the best case like I
said for a person who has committed zina
is to turn to Allah SWT and ask
forgiveness from Allah SWT himself the next ayah
it talks about the issue of social welfare
when it comes to orphans when you have
orphans in society they are the ones that
are most oppressed and the ones that are
most taken advantage of so an orphan, young
boy, girl who has lost one his father
or both of the parents, now they have
maybe some wealth that their parents left them,
the guardian of that wealth basically seeing that
the children are small, they are young, they
don't know anything about money, I can take
this money and use it for myself and
nobody is going to know, nobody will be
the wiser, I'm going to take this money
and I'm going to use it for myself
so Allah SWT says no, this is not
permissible for you to do وَلَا تَقَرَبُوا مَالَ
الْيَتِيمُ do not get close to the wealth
of the orphan do not get even close
to it, again just like وَلَا تَقَرَبُوا زِنَا
don't even get close to it, meaning touching
is something else, don't even get close to
it مَالَ الْيَتِيمُ إِلَّا بِالَّتِيهِ أَحْسَنُ except in
a way that is good, and what is
the way that is good it's mentioned in
Surah An-Nisa also that if a person
he sincerely takes that money, puts it in
investments, buys some property with the hope that
that property will appreciate, or rental money is
going to come in, and that money that
rasul maal or the capital that was left
for the orphans, it will continue to build,
then and only then he can use that
money for that purpose, that he can take
it for that purpose, or the second purpose
is that he takes that money and utilizes
it only and only for the orphans, these
are the only two reasons that that money
can be touched حَتَّى يَبْلُغَ أَشُدَّ until the
orphans they reach their ashud, meaning they reach
an age of puberty, or a age of
recognition, where they can manage their own affairs
up until that point, you're not allowed to
touch their wealth, give that money to them
as soon as possible when you feel that
they are capable of managing their own affairs
وَأُوفُوا بِالْعَهْدِ and fulfill your ahad, fulfill your
covenants, fulfill your promises Zujjaj says that whatever
Allah SWT commanded to do and whatever he
forbade us to do that comes in the
ahad of Allah SWT Allah has made us
promise when we say la ilaha illallah, that
means we are obedient to Allah SWT we
obey his orders and we stay away from
the things that he has forbidden us from
whether the thing that Allah SWT commands us
to do and forbids us from doing it
is between us and Allah SWT or between
the slaves of Allah SWT all of that
comes under the ahad or the covenant that
we have with Allah SWT so Allah says
وَأُوفُوا بِالْعَهْدِ fulfill your covenant meaning fulfill your
covenant, your promise with Allah fulfill your covenant
with the slaves around you, with the people
around you with your Muslim brothers, with your
relatives fulfill everybody's rights this covenant is something
that will be questioned about everybody will be
questioned about their promises that they made and
the commitments that they had, the responsibilities that
they had, they will be questioned by Allah
SWT on the day of judgment وَأَوْفُوا الْكَيْلَ
إِذَا كِلْتُمْ and measure the weight completely when
you weigh this is for traders, businessmen when
they are weighing things to sell it should
be done in a way that is not
cheating the other person once the Prophet SAW
he passed by some traders and he dipped
his hand inside some grain okay and he
found that the grain was wet what does
that mean?
the people, the trader, the businessman had actually
made the grain wet so that it would
the weight of the water it would make
the grain heavier and therefore he would have
to sell less than what he should have
done so the Prophet SAW rebuked him for
that so cheating in Islam is not permissible
especially for traders and Allah SWT he mentions
in the beginning of Surah Al-Mutaffifin وَيْلُ
لِّلْمُطَفِّفِينَ destruction is for mutaffifin who are the
they weigh for other people when they are
selling they deduct and they shortchange and when
they are trying to buy something they basically
want their fair share what they are paying
for they want it completely Allah SWT asks
a question do not these people realize that
they will be resurrected one day and they
are going to be standing in front of
the lord of the worlds Rabbul Alameen on
the day of judgment if a person just
keeps this in mind he will never cheat
anybody that the dollar that I am cheating
somebody for today Allah SWT is going to
ask me on the day of judgment the
grain that I am shortchanging today Allah SWT
will ask me about this on the day
of judgment so Allah says وَأَوْفُوا الْكَيْلَ إِذَا
كِلْتُمْ وَزِنُوا بِالْقِصْطَاصِ الْمُسْتَقِيمِ and weigh with scales
which are straight meaning don't cheat on the
scales don't make the scales in such a
way that you will be cheating and even
nowadays you have those digital scales even they
can be manipulated to such a degree that
you know you can be cheated you know
if you go to the gas pumps those
gas pumps are inspected by people who are
actually trained to make sure that when you
are paying for a gas pump you are
actually getting a gun if you look carefully
at the gas pumps you will see that
there is an inspection sticker that somebody comes
from the city and inspects those gas pumps
on a regular basis to make sure that
people are not being cheated out of their
money so even those digital scales can be
manipulated even much more than probably the old
fashioned scales so Allah SWT is saying وَزِنُوا
بِالْقِصْطَاصِ الْمُسْتَقِيمِ weigh with scales which are straight
ذَٰلِكَ خَيْرٌ وَأَحْسَنُوا تَأْوِيلًا this is the best
thing to do and the best way to
adopt so basically just think about this this
is how society is protected if you go
to unfortunately our own Muslim societies that are
the victims of such cheating and such so
many different kinds of scams it's difficult to
live in that kind of an environment for
the most part we are protected here by
government regulations and so on and so forth
we are protected and so living in a
society where we don't feel that we are
being cheated all the time it feels good
it feels comfortable a person doesn't have to
worry about being cheated all the time whereas
when you go home to a so called
Muslim country you have all of these issues
where people are mixing sand for example you
know the what do you call the sawdust
with flour to make the flour get you
know have more volume or you are getting
people that inject color into oranges to make
the oranges look red the blood red oranges
and so on and so forth so many
different scams that people have that a person
doesn't know who to trust anymore so society
if it implements Islamic rulings and regulations that
basically makes a society worth living in and
it brings peace to society it brings harmony
to society and a person wants to live
in that kind of society and all of
these rulings that we have just mentioned are
basically part and parcel of that there are
certain things that will be mentioned inshallah in
next weeks lessons we will stop there right
now I pray that Allah SWT gives us
the stuff to understand and practice what is
being said and heard Allah
Allah
