Alhamdulillah salatu wasalamu ala rasoolillah Last night we
completed the 13th juz' in which we completed
Surat Yusuf, Surat Ar-Ra'd, Surat Ibrahim and
I want to just focus on a couple
of ayats in Surat Yusuf in which the
story of Yusuf a.s. is very long
obviously it's been described in the surah itself
as being Ahsanul Qasas the best of the
stories and that is because of the many
lessons that you can derive from this beautiful
story and one of the lessons is found
in the verses which I want to talk
about today and the story goes that Yaqub
a.s. he sent his sons to find
food and they found out about Aziz-e
-Misr, Yusuf a.s. who they didn't know
at the time, he is Yusuf a.s.
but they go to find food and he
stocks them up with food but before they
actually go, the Prophet Yaqub a.s. tells
his sons Ya Baniyya, la tadkhulu min baabin
wahidin, wa dkhulu min abwaabin mutafarriqan O my
sons, don't enter into one door, but enter
into different doors meaning when you enter into
the palace of Aziz-e-Misr you should
not be all going in as one group,
as one party you know, one enter from
the right door, one from the left door
enter separately and maybe join up later on
or something like this and the scholars say
that the reason that Yaqub a.s. told
them to do that was to prevent them
and protect them from the evil eye which
is known as Al Ain in Arabic obviously
these were the brothers of Yusuf a.s.
and the beauty of Yusuf a.s. is
mentioned in the surah and it's legendary, everybody
knows how handsome he was and obviously these
were his brothers so they had to have
some kind of looks and beauty associated with
that brotherhood of Yusuf a.s. just like
Yusuf a.s. was handsome they probably had
some portion of handsomeness and beauty that Yusuf
a.s. had, so he didn't Yaqub a
.s. didn't want everybody's eyes to fall on
them immediately at one time thinking that these,
wow, these beautiful handsome men where did they
come from so that's why he told them
to enter into different doors now what is
this issue of Al Ain what is this
thing and what should we know about it
now obviously this is not something physical it's
not something that you can do scientific tests
for at least in this day and age
you cannot do these kinds of tests for
but what is sufficient for us to know
is that the Prophet a.s. he said
about this thing that Al Ain is something
which is true it is real and it
happens there's very many stories about things, events
that happened in the life of the Prophet
a.s. that showed that he basically after
they happened Prophet a.s. said that this
is a result of Al Ain one story
that comes to mind is while the Prophet
a.s. was travelling in a group one
particular camel was racing ahead of everybody else
and then on the way back that same
camel became weak and could hardly move so
the Prophet a.s. said about this camel
that he's been afflicted with the evil eye
he said at that point the evil eye
is true there's another hadith of the Prophet
a.s. that Al Ain yudkhilu rajula al
qabra wa yudkhilu al jamala al qidra or
as he said a.s. that it enters
a man into the grave and it enters
the camel into the cooking pot meaning that
the man it can even lead to a
person's death and in the case of an
animal that animal becomes so useless that he
has to be slaughtered and he has to
be cooked so this is what is mentioned
in the hadith there's another story of a
sahabi named Sahal ibn Hunayf and he was
known for being very handsome and very light
skinned it's mentioned that one day he took
his clothes off to take a shower another
sahabi he saw the lightness of his skin
and he remarked that I've never seen such
beautiful skin as this immediately he fell into
an epileptic fit and he went unconscious the
sahabi went to the Prophet and said Ya
Rasulallah this is what happened so the Prophet
he said that did anybody say anything about
him or his beauty and one sahabi stepped
forward and he said that I said that
his skin is very beautiful so the Prophet
made him make wudhu he made him make
wudhu and the wudhu water that was taken
from his wudhu it was poured on Sahal
ibn Hunayf and he became well immediately so
this is one of the cures for Al
Ain that if you know that whose Ain
afflicted you whose evil eye afflicted you then
you would make the person make wudhu or
ghusl and you would take that water and
pour it upon the person who was affected
and it will cure the person now like
I said there's no you cannot do any
scientific research over this but this is something
that the Prophet A.S. told us for
what about preventative measures preventative measures the Prophet
A.S. he used to make ruqya upon
Hasan and Hussain he used to recite protective
duas for them before the Muawwithain were revealed
Muawwithain refers to the last two surahs of
the Quran and when the Muawwithain were revealed
Prophet A.S. used to recite those and
blow them upon his grandsons and again this
is a practice that we should practice also
ourselves after every Salat before going to sleep
Ayatul Kursi and the two last surahs and
especially after the Salats there are adhkar that
the Prophet A.S. used to recite which
were protective adhkar so
there are many adhkar reported from the Prophet
A.S. that were of a preventative nature
that protected a person from being afflicted by
this and after being afflicted by this if
you know whose eye it was that affected
the person then you would do like I
said you would take the wudu water of
that person and pour that wudu water upon
the affected person if you don't know who
it is then again ruqya, recitation of the
Quran Muawwithain etc.
and this will help the person get cured
from the evil eye now when we say
evil eye remember that this is not necessarily
something that a person with evil intent does
it remember that this is not something that
a person does it with evil intent a
pious person a pious person who has no
evil intent whatsoever he also has this power
within him and it varies from person to
person he can have this power within him
that he looks at something and there may
be a little bit of envy involved and
not attributing the beauty to Allah SWT involved
and that results in the person being affected
with the person's evil eye and again it
doesn't have to be because the person himself
is bad but he has this power of
Al Ain that affects other people now when
you see something beautiful there are two duas
that have been related in the hadith and
one of them was recited by Hafiz Usama
in the Salat in the story mentioned in
Suratul Kahf about two men one who had
beautiful gardens and full of orchards and fruits
and the rivers flowing by and he was
very very arrogant because of that and he
arrogantly boasted to his neighbour next door who
didn't have that much he said that I
have this and this and this and his
neighbour said that why don't you say why
don't you say that this is what you
should be saying for the blessings that Allah
SWT has blessed you with so this is
one dua or simply and or and
things of that nature which attribute the barakah
of Allah SWT in it and this is
related from that same hadith which I mentioned
about Sahl ibn Hanif the Prophet SAW when
he heard that sahabi while he saw Sahl
ibn Hanif bathing he had praised him and
complimented him he said you should while complimenting
somebody attribute, say the barakah of Allah meaning
say bismillah so this is another thing that
you can say always whenever praising and complimenting
say mashallah for the barakah of Allah now
remember that this is, a'in is a
sabab it is a sabab of something that
Allah SWT has written already this is an
easy way to understand it is that if
you were to take something poisonous the result
of that would be most likely that you
die so the qadr that Allah SWT has
written for you is death but the poison
became the sabab for it so whatever Allah
SWT has written Allah SWT has decreed that
will happen for sure but the only thing
we can do is take preventative measures and
make sure that from our end we don't
take that poison or in the case of
al'a'in we use protective measures by
saying mashallah and you know protecting ourselves from
by using various adhkar and this is why
the verse actually goes on to say he
says to his sons do not enter through
one door that when Allah SWT wants to
do something when he decrees something then I
cannot do anything what I'm just telling you
is just simply a preventative measure the real
decision is up to Allah SWT but again
that doesn't mean that I shouldn't take preventative
measures only upon Allah SWT I put my
trust I put my tawakkul and upon him
the people of tawakkul put their tawakkul and
trust in Allah SWT so the summary al
'a'in is true it is something that
is real and we should take preventative measures
for it preventative measures are recitation of adhkar
and whenever we see something beautiful we say
mashallah and afterwards if a person is afflicted
also he should cure himself by reciting ruqya
and the various adhkar that have been reported
by the Prophet SAW I pray that Allah
SWT gives us sufi to understand and practice
what is being said and heard Al
Fatiha
