The Munafiq Mafum was built to increase worship and strengthen the community, but was eventually settled for corrupt intentions. The speaker emphasizes the importance of building a culture focused on good intentions and standing out from others, while also acknowledging the need to improve one's appearance. The Prophet wanted the people of Quba to not stand inside the facility, but stood by their intentions.

Today inshallah I'm going to be talking about
a selection of verses towards the end of
Surat At-Tawbah, which if we reflect upon
them, they summarise two kinds of purity.
Internal purity and external purity.
And again we talk about the issue of
the Munafiqeen and the hypocrites that are the
subject of these particular verses.
During the run-up to Ghazwat Tabuuk, the
Munafiqeen and the hypocrites, they felt that they
were undermined by being in the company of
the Prophet ﷺ and being in the same
Masjid as him and being in Masjid Quba
and the other place of worship in which
the Muslims were praying.
So they decided that they should have their
own structure, their own building, their own facility
in which they could gather, they could make
their plans and they could basically do things
which were against the rest of the Muslims.
So Allah ﷻ revealed certain verses about that.
Now after they had decided that they were
going to start this facility, this was in
the vicinity of Masjid Quba.
And as you may know, Masjid Quba was
the first Masjid that was ever built by
the Prophet ﷺ.
As he was coming into Medina, he laid
the foundations of this Masjid and then after
that he came to Medina and then after
that Masjid Nabawi was built.
But the first Masjid in Islam that was
built was Masjid Quba.
And you may know the virtue of this
Masjid.
The Prophet ﷺ, every Saturday, he used to
go and visit Masjid Quba and he used
to pray two raka'a there.
And he said that whoever goes to pray
two raka'a in Masjid Quba, he gets
the reward of a complete Umrah.
So if you go to Medina, this is
one of the places that people tend to
visit, Masjid Quba.
These Munafiqeen, they built this new Masjid next
to Masjid Quba, very close to Masjid Quba
and they wanted to legitimize it by the
Prophet ﷺ coming and praying in it.
So they requested the Prophet ﷺ to come
and pray in the Masjid because we've started
a new facility and they swore by Allah
that their intention was good.
They said that the older people, they have
a hard time coming to Masjid Quba and
it gets cold in winter, so we want
to make it easy for the people.
So that's why we've built this new facility.
But we want you, O Prophet of Allah,
to come and pray in this Masjid.
So the Prophet, he didn't immediately say yes
or no, but he said, let me think
about it.
I'm going to Ghazbal At-Tabukh on the
way back.
I'll let you know what my answer is.
And in the meantime, Allah ﷻ revealed these
verses.
Allah says,
All the intentions of the Munafiqeen are
mentioned here.
First of all, they took a Masjid, they
even call it a Masjid, ذِرَارًا, as a
harm for people.
What ذِرَار is from ضَرَر.
Okay, ذِرَارًا as a harm for people.
And وَتَفْرِيقًا وَكُفْرًا, it's a place of disbelief.
وَتَفْرِيقًا, it's a place to split people up.
The intention is to split people up, to
make people into groups.
وَإِرْصَادًا, it's a place of ambush for those
people who want to make a war against
Allah and His Prophet.
So all these intentions are corrupt intentions that
they built the Masjid for.
So you build a Masjid, of course it
has to be with good intentions to unite
the community.
It should be to increase the worship of
Allah SWT, to increase good in the world.
But their intentions were corrupt from the very
beginning.
So Allah SWT condemned this Masjid.
And on top of that, what did they
say?
They swore
by Allah SWT that we are only intending
good.
The wording is very powerful.
Most certainly they are going to
swear by Allah SWT that indeed we are
only intending good.
Allah SWT bears witness that
indeed these people are lying.
So here we have the bad and the
corrupt intention that Allah SWT has condemned.
And then on the other hand, Allah SWT
says to the Prophet SAW,
Do not ever stand inside this Masjid.
Do not stand in this Masjid, don't pray
in this Masjid, because the intention is bad.
Now what is good?
The Masjid that was founded on Taqwa, good
intentions, that is the place that you need
to stand in.
That Masjid that was
founded on Taqwa, on good intentions, on the
spreading of good, on khair, that is the
Masjid in which you should stand, O Prophet
of Allah.
That is more worthy that you should stand
in it.
And then Allah SWT complimented the people of
the Masjid of Quba.
There are inside this Masjid, people frequent this
Masjid, who love to be pure.
And Allah SWT loves those people that are
pure.
So, the Prophet SAW, he inquired about the
people who frequented the Masjid of Quba, what
was something specific that they did that made
Allah SWT declare them as Muttahireen, the people
that love purity.
And it was found out, and these rewrites
are in Abu Dawud and Ibn Majar, that
when they used to use the bathroom, they
used to use water in addition to other
tools, like in those days obviously stones and
things like that.
The addition of the use of water made
Allah SWT compliment them for the purity of
their body.
So here we see both things, the purity
of intention, internal purity that has been mentioned,
the Taqwa, the sincerity, and because of that
the Masjid is also good, and also the
external purity has been mentioned.
So this is something that we need to
work on, both the internal purity and external
purity.
Many people they think that I need to
just work on my outside, I need to
look good from the outside, I need to
wear clean clothes, and this is important, no
doubt about it.
But also the internal purity is something that
we need to work on as well.
The Niyah is very very important for the
believer, and that's why there's a saying, Niyatul
mu'min khayrun min a'mari.
Sometimes the intention of a believer is better
than even his deed.
Why?
Because whatever a person intends, Allah SWT rewards
him accordingly.
So, I heard, I received some people complaining
about people leaving bottles in the front line,
so that they can reserve the place for
themselves in Taraweeh time, and that's a good
intention, that's a good thing to do, but
this is not something appropriate because you are
depriving other people while you are coming in
your leisurely time.
You're coming late and expecting that place to
stay for you, this is not appropriate.
But, keep in mind that if your intention
is to be in the first line, and
you find that even the whole masjid is
full, and you're praying in the last line,
you'll still inshallah get the reward for the
first line.
So keep that intention, but don't impose yourself
on others in such a way that you're
inconveniencing others.
That intention is very very beautiful indeed, and
it's very powerful, you will still get the
reward inshallah, even if you're coming late.
So, summary basically, that the niyah, it has
to be good internally, and whatever we do,
in terms of good deeds, donating, building masajid,
building schools, even in our houses, whatever we
do, in terms of providing for our family,
providing for our children, clothing our children, clothing
our wives, putting food on the table, if
we have the intention to please Allah, all
of these things actually become a form of
worship for us.
These are a form of worship for us,
and if the intention is bad, then all
of these deeds, they can actually go against
us on the day of judgement.
So, improve our intention on the inside, and
also improve our exterior in terms of cleanliness
and purity, and this is what we derive
from these verses.
I pray that Allah gives us tawfiq to
understand and practice what has been said and
heard.
