This is the 18th chapter of the book,
The chapter of prohibition
from innovations
and newly
invented
matters in the deed of Allah Subhanahu wa
ta'ala.
Imam Abu Rahimahullah,
he begins the chapter with quoting
certain verses from the Qur'an, the first one
of them being from Surat of Yuruz,
in which Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala says
What can be they
after the truth other than misguidance?
So if a person is not satisfied with
the truth,
then what can be there for him or
for her other than misguidance?
Waqqala ta'ala
and Allah
also said,
We have neglected
nothing
in the Book.
The Book that Allah
revealed,
which is known as Al Quranul Kareem.
And the tafsir of the Quran, which is
the Hadith of Rasulullah
So
Allah says, we never neglected anything.
So everything has been
made clear,
and what is permissible,
what is not permissible,
what is halal and what is haramis, all
has been declared in the book of Allah
and in the Hadith of the Prophet
So, there is no need for anyone to
introduce anything new
in the Deen of Allah
Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala also says,
If you people dispute
on any matter,
if you have
differences
in any matter
with regards to your deen, then
take it back to Allah and his messenger
The scholars have said, taking back to Allah
and His Messenger refers to the Qur'an and
the Sunnah of the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa
sallam.
Allah also says 1,
And this is my path which is a
straight path, so follow this path.
Walatattabiur
subul,
and do not follow
other different paths and ways for the farruqah
be quban sabiri. Otherwise,
these other deviate paths will take you away
from the straight path.
Rasulullah Sallallahu
Alaihi Wasallam once,
he drew a line, a straight line on
the ground.
And, he
also drew other lines
that were attached to this to,
to that straight line and then he recited
this verse.
And he said,
This is my path, the straight path
that leads to Jannah.
And,
fattabiru
so follow this path. Walatatabir
subul and do not follow
the path
that apparently
seem linked to this path but they can
actually take you away
from the straight path. Not tabiur ussubud,
do not follow other paths
or other ways.
Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala also said,
Say to them O Muhammad
that if you people love Allah
then fatabiruni
you have to follow Me
Muhammad
Then a result of this Allah will love
you and Allah will forgive
all of your sins.
And, Imam Abu Dawood says,
And the verse says,
regarding this matter are many that are well
known in the Quran, in the book of
Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala. So all these verses
confirm,
that Allah
has completed the deen,
upon His Messenger sallallahu alaihi wasallam.
And there is no room for anyone to
introduce anything new in the deen of Allah
The Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam made it
clear.
Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala revealed the ayah
Allah
Subhanahu wa
Ta'ala revealed the Ayah, which says, When the
Prophet
performed Hajj and he was in Arafat,
Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala revealed this ayah to
the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam which says,
This day I have completed for you, your
religion.
So deen and religion has been completed upon
Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam. And This is
the reason
that Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala did not reveal
any new legislation,
any ruling with regards to halal and haram,
after
re after the revelation of this ayat.
Because their Deen was complete.
There were
other ayahs that were revealed to the Prophet
Such as the ayah of
ayah of
Allah. Fear the day when you all will
return to Allah
So this is the actual final ayah, the
very last ayah that was revealed to the
Prophet
But obviously in this ayah there is no
any new ruling of halal haram.
The final ayah with regards to halal, haram
was Aliyoma Akmaltulakumdeenakum,
when Allah Subhanahu wa'talam when He revealed this
ayah, He did not reveal anything
new or anything additional in terms of halal
or haram in the deen. So
deen has been and perfected upon Rasoolullah
Which means that there is no room for
anyone to introduce anything new in the deen
of Allah,
Dhuljalaliwalikram. And it is also not permissible for
anyone to take out anything from the deen
of Allah. The deen is complete and and
the and Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala used the
word, Akmal, Iqmal
means,
when something is perfected.
Meaning, there is no any
lacking in any terms, in any form or
shape in the deed of Allah
There's no any shortcoming, there is no any
lacking, there is nothing
that has been left.
Rather Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala has completed. And
complete also means that it has no room
for any addition.
There is no need to add anything.
That is why after
receiving this revelation from
Allah the next day, very next day. The
Prophet
delivered the khutbah,
and Yaubu Nuhar.
And the day of sacrifice,
the 10th of Dhul Hijjah,
after the day of Arafat,
the prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam addressed his
companions,
and there were over 100,000
present day, the prophet
dressed them
And this khutbah is known as farewell
sermon of Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam.
In that khutbah, the Prophet
instructed
with certain things to his companion
And then,
at the end of the khutbah, the Prophet
asked them all a question. He said,
Have I conveyed the message of Allah?
Have I conveyed the message of Allah?
Have I conveyed the message of Allah?
Because Allah
had instructed the Prophet
Oh messenger,
convey whatever has been revealed to you.
If you do not do so,
then it will be seen as you have
not conveyed
the message of Allah
So the prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam acting upon
this commandment of Allah
He addressed his companion and he said,
Have I conveyed everything to you?
And all of them they said,
Yes, O Messenger of Allah, you have conveyed.
You have made it clear. Halal and haram.
You have conveyed everything,
and we
testify on your behalf, and we declare
and we,
and and we also say,
naam, you you have conveyed everything. Then the
prophet
raised his index finger
and he said, Allahum
Mashhad,
Allahum Mashhad,
Allahum Mashhad.
3 times he said, O Allah be witness,
O Allah be witness, O Allah be witness,
O Allah be witness.
Your creation, my companions, they have testified on
me on my behalf.
And they've made it clear, they have declared
that I have conveyed everything to them.
And this was after, Rasulullah
received the revelation of the ayah, Aliyawma aqmatulakum
deenakum, which confirms
that the deen is complete. That is why
Rasoolullah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam after that day,
in one of his Khutubas he said,
there is nothing,
there is no good deed
that can
take you into Jannah and takes you away
from the fire, except that I have told
you.
And there is no sin
that can lead you to * fire and
can take you away from Jannah except
that I have warned you against it.
So everything has been
declared by the prophet
What is
good deed and what is bad deed? The
prophet
made it clear,
good and bad.
What is tawah? What is masia?
What is obedience to Allah and what is
disobedience to Allah and his messenger
when everything has been declared and made clear,
clear, then
the prophet
said
And this is the first hadith
that Imam Nabi has quoted this in this
chapter. And this hadith is
collected,
is is narrated by our mother Aisha radiAllahu
ta'ala and her and reported by Imam Bukharir
Mus Imam Muslim Rahimahullah.
Muhammad. The prophet says,
Whoever introduces
anything new in
the matters of ours,
in our religion,
something
that is not part of it.
And anyone tries to introduce and make it
part of the religion for warat, it is
going to be rejected.
It holds no value.
And he will get no reward for that.
And in another Hadith the Prophet
said,
Whoever does anything
that is not part of the religion, that
is not part of the deen,
that that is not part of the matters
of ours, for whoever, then it is going
to be rejected.
It will be rejected.
Meaning, it will have no reward, whatsoever.
No matter how beautiful
the matter seems or looks,
If it is not proven by the sunnah
and by the hadith of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi
Wasallam,
it cannot
it cannot be part of the deen, and
there will be no reward,
and there will be no ajer or tawab
for that, at all.
Regardless of the efforts of the person who
does it.
Allah says,
in the Quran, in Surah Al Kahf,
Say to them,
Shall we not inform you of those
who are the loosest one, in terms of
their deeds.
Not the losers only, those who are the
worst one in their loss
of their deeds.
Those are
the ones
that the efforts have gone into vain.
Although they used to think that they were
doing something good.
All of their efforts have gone into vain.
Although they themselves, within themselves they thought that
they were doing something good.
And in the following ayah Allah says,
These are the people that all of their
deeds are destroyed.
And will establish no weight
for their deeds. There will be no weight
for any of their deeds.
And the Mufassiroun
have said that, these ayaat refer to those
innovators.
Those people who innovate, those who practice the
innovation,
those who
spread the innovations.
They make a lot of efforts.
But because,
that innovation
or that deed is not proven from the
sunnah of Rasulullah salallahu alaihi wa sallam,
then it will have no value whatsoever in
the sight of Allah. And there will be
no reward for them at all.
Allah
also says, in Surah Al Rashiya,
On the day of judgment,
there will be many people
who tired themselves,
who made a lot of efforts
in doing good deeds, apparently good deeds.
But the end result will be,
They will be burning
in the blazing fire.
Although, they made a lot of efforts,
and they tired themselves,
But because their actions
were not in line with the Sunnah of
Rasulullah
That is why it is very important
to always follow the footsteps and the sunnah
and the practices of Rasulullah
and anything and everything that is not
established or not proven by the prophet
leave it out.
Stay away from it. And even if you
have doubt about something,
then
remember the hadith of Rasulullah sallallahu
alaihi
wa
sallam.
The best way is the way of the
prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam.
For example,
there are many innovations that are practiced
amongst the Muslims,
very commonly.
One of them is,
reading of the, reading the Quran on behalf
of the deceased,
particularly
on the 7th day or sometime on 40th
day.
After the 40
days
of of passing away of someone,
people gather together
and they read the Quran,
and they say, the reward of our reading
to be given to our deceased.
This is the intention.
And obviously, reading a whole Quran requires a
lot of efforts.
It does require a lot of effort.
But the question is,
is this something that the Prophet
practiced?
Is this something that the companions
did wanullahi alwajbaiin practiced during the time of
the prophet sallallahu alayhi wa
sallam? Is there something
that the prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam encouraged?
No.
The answer will be no, no, no. The
prophet
never practiced. There were many companions of the
prophet
including
his own children,
his daughters, his sons, who passed away during
the time of the of Rasulullah during his
life. He never asked any of his companions,
during his life. He never asked any of
his companions ever, let's get together and read
some Quran so that the reward can be
given to my daughters and my sons.
Some of his most closest,
his closest friends and his companions passed away.
One of them was his uncle Hamza radiallahu
ta'ala,
who was martyred in the battle of Uhud.
The Prophet
never asked the companions to, let's get together
and read Quran,
and transfer the reward to him.
No, he never did that.
His cousin Jafar
he was martyred in one of the battles.
Many of his companions
his
own wife, Khadija
she passed away The Prophet
never asked any of his companions to read
the Quran on their behalf.
So this is something
that holds no value whatsoever,
because this is something that is newly invented.
So,
even if you are not clear about it,
if you have doubt, or if you have
lack of knowledge,
then
just simply ask the question. Anyone who ask
you to read Quran on behalf of the
deceased, just ask them simple question. Is this
something that the prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam
recommended?
They will definitely answer, no.
They will say, no. But along with this
they may say, but, but you can you
can do this. Why?
What is the evidence?
The evidence is because
the prophet
has allowed us to give charity on the
on behalf of the deceased.
Okay. Fair enough.
But charity is something different.
Charity is completely different action.
Another good deed,
that is why the principle is, that whatever
the Prophet
has allowed you, it is permissible, it is
part of the deen.
How can you make analogy
between the charity
and the reading the Quran?
What is the connection between charity and read
the Quran?
In terms of action,
no connection.
So, for example, when you stand in your
salah before Allah
you have to recite.
Can someone say instead of reading, reading,
I'm going to give some charity
in the way of Allah, he's going to
fight. No.
Why? Because the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam
never allowed this, and this is not the
religion. The religion must be practiced the way
the prophet
has taught us.
So the prophet
has allowed us to give charity on behalf
of the deceased, no doubt.
The prophet
has also allowed
the living ones to perform Hajj or Umrah
on behalf of the deceased. Fair enough, it
is part of the deen. But other than
that, to say that I'm going to read
Quran on behalf of the deceased and it
is going to benefit, There is no evidence
for that whatsoever.
This will be seen as an innovation.
Likewise,
celebrating the birthday of Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wa
sallam every year.
And unfortunately,
it is getting worse and worse every year.
Celebrating the birthday of the Prophet sallallahu alaihi
wasallam, with excuse
that we love Rasulullah
Yes. No
doubt. Love for the Prophet
is part of the deen.
And without the love for the Prophet
you cannot be a believer.
You have to love Rasulullah
more than you love your children, your family,
your parents, your friends, and everyone.
You have to love Rasulullah
more than even your own self.
No doubt, love for the prophet
is part of the deen.
But is this the way of showing and
expressing your love for Rasulullah
No.
Did the prophet
ever celebrate his own birthday?
Did any of his companions ever celebrate his
birthday?
No, never.
You may say,
what we do in the when we celebrate
the birthday of the of the prophet
we gather together,
and we make the mention of the,
hasa'is, and the fadail, and the virtues
of Rasulullah
sallallahu alaihi wa sallam.
We
discussed the seer of the Prophet sallallahu alaihi
wa sallam.
We discussed the lesson that we learned from
the seer of Rasoolullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam. We
send salutation upon Rasulullah
So what what part of this is wrong?
Is studying the seerah of the Prophet
not permissible?
Is sending salutation upon the Surah alaihi wa
sallam is not permissible?
So what's wrong with it? So this is
the excuse that people
present when they celebrate the birthday of Rasulullah
sallallahu alaihi wa sallam. The answer is,
that combining
all these things together and naming it as
celebration
and the mawlih, this is something that is
wrong.
When it comes to the study of the
seerah of Rasulullah
it cannot be restricted to one particular month
or one particular day.
If you do so, then it will be
wrong.
When it comes to sending salutation upon Rasulullah
there is one particular time in which it
is part of our salah, when you have
to send salutation
upon Rasulullah
Other than that,
there is no restriction and no one has
the authority
to limit a time or single out a
day or a month to say, now we
are going to get together, and send the
salutation upon Rasulullah
all together.
Because this becomes part of the religion,
and this is how the innovations
are introduced in the deen of Allah
And we have heard from our elders
that this day
during the month of Rabiul Awwal when people
celebrate the birthday of Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wa
sallam. Many years ago, over 50, 60 years
ago,
this particular day, 12th of Rabi'ul Awal
used to be,
commemorated or used to be,
not really celebrated, it used to be known
as the day of the death of Rasulullah
Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam.
But then, it was changed to
the birth of Rasulullah
The day of the birth of Rasulullah
and then people started celebrating the birthday.
And now, it has gone
to next level,
To the level that
those
who reject this innovation,
they are criticized and they are blamed
of not having any love for Rasulullah
And some of them have gone even
to the next level and they say that
everyone celebrates
the birthday of Rasulullah
Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam and everyone is happy, except
Iblis,
except Iblis and shaitan.
So, those who stay away from innovations, they
are blamed.
And those who
practice these innovations,
they are praised, they are praiseworthy.
This has become the norm, unfortunately, within the
Muslims.
And this is what happens.
When innovation is
introduced in the deen of Allah
people easily follow the innovation.
And also also
remember,
it is always
easy
to practice the innovation
and it is always difficult to practice the
Sunnah of Rasoolullah
Remember always,
practicing
and sticking to the Sunnah of the Prophet
is always difficult.
As for practicing the innovation, this is something
that very easy.
Many of those who
celebrate the birthday of the prophet
when it comes to their 5 daily praise,
following the sunnah of Rasulullah
in terms of growing their beard,
having the dress code according to the sunnah
of the Prophet
having following the sunnah of the prophet
in the akhlaq,
they all fail in all of this.
But when the month of Rabiul Awl comes,
they will be seen at the forefront
of showing their love for the Prophet sallallahu
alaihi wa sallam. And we say, this is
nothing other than false love.
The Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam has set
the criteria for that, and the standard. And
he said,
Whoever loves my sunnah, he is the one
who loves me.
And
those
who becomes,
those who become upset
when you mention the sunnah of the Prophet
onto them,
then it means that they have no true
love for the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam.
So that is why, following the sunnah of
the Prophet
is crucial
and staying away from all kinds of innovation,
it is the advice of the Prophet
The second adith that Imam An Nawawi
has quoted in this chapter is the hadith
of Jabir Radiallahu
Ta'ala. Who says,
that the messenger of Allah alaihi wasallam
whenever he would do hootba,
whenever he would deliver the hootba,
Ihmar rata'aina
His eyes would become red.
And his voice
become loud.
And his anger would become severe.
It would be seen as though,
if he was
warning
against an
an army, And he would say
He would address and he would deliver the
khutbah in a way
that,
as if he was
warning his companions that there is an enemy,
there is an army of the enemy who
is ready to attack you. This evening or
tomorrow morning.
In that way he would
he would deliver the Khutba and then he
would say,
I and the last hour we have been
sent like these
2. And then he would illustrate
with his index finger and the middle finger.
And then he would say,
To proceed,
The best of the speech is the speech
is the book of Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala.
Muhammad
And the best way is the way of
Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.
Or it can be read as wakayhi wa
The best guidance is the guidance of Muhammad
And the worst
of the worst of the affairs and the
matters
are the newly invented matters.
And every
every
innovation is misguidance.
Another version of the hadith says that he
would
also say
every misguidance
leads to the fire of
*. And then He would say,
I am closer
to every mumin, to every
believer than his own soul.
Whoever passed away and leaves behind any wealth,
any state that belongs to his family, his
heirs.
And whoever leaves
any load or any debts on him, on
her
then I'm responsible for their debts. And I
pay the burden of their debts. So this
was the common khutbah of Rasulullah
There are number of lesson that we learned
from this particular hadith of Jabi
The first one is the way of delivering
Khutbah.
Many of the khateeps,
they
do not follow this practice of Rasulullah
And the sunnah of the prophet
particularly with regards to the Khutba of the
Jum'ah,
used to be that he would raise his
voice
and
his eyes become red
And he would talk aloud
in order
to draw the attention of the audience.
And this is the way, this is the
prophetic
way.
Of this is the way of Rasulullah
So particularly when it comes to the khutbah
of the jub'ah,
the sunnah of the prophet
should be followed.
The second thing that is mentioned in this
hadith
is the saying of the prophet sallallahu alayhi
wa sallam.
I and the last hour have been sent
like these two fingers,
meaning
very close.
And it also indicates
that
there will be no messenger, no prophet after
me until the day of judgement.
Because after me is going to be only
the day of judgement. There will be no
new messenger, there will be no prophet.
And anyone who claims
to be the Prophet or Messenger of Allah
after Muhammadur Rasulullah
he will be considered as a dajjal,
the big liar.
And no one
has the authority to claim
that he is the prophet
of Allah
after Rasulullah
Allah
has granted him the title of
Muhammad
Muhammad He is not the father of any
of the men amongst you.
Walakir Rasulallah,
rather He is the messenger of Allah
and he is the seal of all the
prophets.
So there is no prophet, no messenger after
that. And the prophet
also made it clear.
I am the seal of all the prophets
and there cannot be any prophet after me.
There were there were many people
who claimed
to be the prophet of Allah after Rasulullah
There were many.
And some of them,
they had big following.
And one of them is
Gulam Ahmad Qadiyani.
Gulam Ahmad Qadiyani
and his followers are known or they actually
and biography of Gulam Ahmed.
They actually changed his claims
from time to time.
Initially he claimed
that he was Al Masih Al Maruth.
The that he was the promised messiah.
That is mentioned
in the hadith of Rasulullah
And then he claimed that he was Imam
Mahdi.
Then he claimed
that he himself
is the prophet.
And when he was questioned,
how come you claim that you are the
prophet?
Whereas Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam said,
I am the seal of the Prophet.
He said,
means seal, also
means stamp.
It means
that
I am the Prophet by the stamp of
Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam. This was his
dajjal.
And they are
there is big,
you know, he has big followers.
Everywhere
around the globe.
And
surprisingly,
not only amongst
the Ajam, in fact, amongst the Arab you
find.
And he has big followers
in Egypt.
And in Egypt,
they have their own
TV channel.
And even in the UK,
before
the start of the Islam channel,
that was started I think around in 2002,
there was
one single TV channel
that was known as a Muslim TV channel,
and they had named it Muslim channel or
Muslim TV. Actually Muslim TV. And that channel
is still up and running, and that channel
is run by the Ahmadiyi, by the kadianis.
And the scholars of Islam,
unanimously
with ijma'a,
have declared the fatwa,
then that anyone
who follows, or who believes that Gulam Muhammad
Qadiyani was the Prophet,
he out of all the fold, out of
the fold of Islam.
Because the Prophet
is the final messenger and the final prophet
of Allah.
So, Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam said,
between me and the last hour,
and I'm the final
messenger
of Allah. And then he
would say,
The best of the speeches
is the book of Allah.
The book of Allah is the best speech.
And those
who,
label or call themselves Ahlul Hadith,
they actually take the evidence from this Hadith
of Rasulullah
The word hadith,
as a term or common terminology
is used for the statements of Rasulullah
But the word hadith
linguistically
means speech,
or the statement.
And when we study the book of Allah
in Quranul Kareem,
we find that Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala
has named His speech
as hadith as well.
Allah says, Who can be
more truthful
in His speech than Allah?
The speech of Allah is what? Al Quran,
With
which speech they are going to believe after
the Quran.
So the speech of Allah, Hadith of Allah
is Al Quran.
So when the term Ahlul Hadith is used,
it actually covers both Quran and Hadith, it
refers to both.
So that is why it is permissible to
use this term. Ahlul Hadith or Ahlul Hadith.
Ahlul sunnah obviously those who follow the sunnah
of Rasulullah Sallallahu
Alaihi Wasallam. And in reality there is no
difference between
Al Firqatun Najia,
Ahlu Sunnah wal Jamah,
They are all
same name and same titles
with the,
of those who follow the Quran and the
sunnah of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam. So the
Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said,
The best of the speech is the book
of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. Wakayrullahhadiyehadiyehadiyeh
Muhammad. And the best way is the way
of Muhammad
And anyone who tries to introduce anything new
in the deen of Allah
then he has committed worst
of the sins,
Worst of the sins.
Every innovation is misguidance.
Anything new in the deed of Allah,
the Prophet
has made it clear,
Every innovation is misguidance.
So, there cannot be
good innovation or bad innovation.
As,
those who celebrate the birthday of the Prophet
and they practice other innovations, they claim,
that innovation can be good and innovation can
be bad.
So celebrating the birthday of the prophet
is a is a good innovation.
It's
But the Hadith of the prophet
has made it clear.
Every innovation is misguidance.
And innovation is always bad.
It can never be a good innovation.
The deen of Allah
This is something that is prohibited. May Allah
give us tawfiq and ability
to always stick to the sunnah of the
prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam, follow the footsteps of
Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam And may Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala
save us and protect us from all kinds
of innovations.
May Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala give us tawfiq
and ability to practice the sunnah of Rasulullah
sallallahu alaihi wa sallam and may Allah allow
us all
to increase in our knowledge
