AI: Summary ©
We are going through the chapter of the
importance
of
adhering to the sunnah
of Surah Allah
and avoiding
opposing the sunnah of the Prophet
or doing something
that is
prohibited by the Prophet
or
deliberately,
intentionally
neglecting
or ignoring
the commandment of Rasulullah salallahu alaihi wa sallam.
So, in this regard,
said, He
said, All of my ummah will enter Jannah.
All of my Ummah
will enter Jannah.
Except
those who refuse to enter Jannah.
So, the Prophet
said, Kullu Umati
- my whole Ummah will enter Jain.
And when the word Ummah is used,
the Ummah refers
to the followers of Rasool Allah Sallallahu Alaihi
Wasallam. Those who
believed
that Muhammadur Rasulullah
sallallahu alaihi wa sallam is Allah's final Messenger.
And this is what Rasulullah is referring to.
Whereas,
there is another meaning of the Ummah,
which aced the whole mankind.
So that is why the scholars have said
the Ummah of the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam
is divided into 2 main categories.
1 is called
Ummah to Dua,
and the second one is called Ummatul
Ijabah.
Ummatul Da'wah means,
the Ummah
to whom the Prophet sallallahu
alaihi wa sallam has been sent as a
messenger.
As Allah says in the Quran for example,
Allah says in the Quran, with regards to
the people of Munu the
people of Musa alaihis salam, the people of
Isa
the people of
Salih
the Kaum, and the people of all those
Prophets. When Allah says the people of Musa,
it does not mean
that those who followed Musa.
Rather
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala refers to the people
to whom Musa
was sent as a messenger.
Although not all of them accepted Musa
to be the Messenger of Allah.
But they are still classed as the people
of Musa.
Likewise,
the Ummah of Muhammadu Rasulullah is
the whole mankind.
Because the previous Prophets and messengers
used to be sent to a particular area,
or particular region, or
particular people.
And sometime,
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala sent more than 1
prophet or more than 1 messenger at a
time,
in 2 different regions.
That is why, when it comes to the
previous Prophets, Allah says,
They salihs people, the people of Musa, the
people of food, like this.
But when it came to our Nabi
the Prophet
was not sent as a messenger
to the people of Arabia only.
He was not sent as a messenger to
the Arab only. Rather Allah says in the
Quran,
Say, O Muhammad
Oh people,
I have been sent as a messenger of
Allah to you all.
And Allah also says,
We have not sent you except
as a messenger to the whole mankind.
So,
from the day when Rasulullah
was sent as a messenger,
from Allah
from that day all the way up to
the day of judgement,
up to the day of qiyamah.
All the people are the ummah, And the
people of Muhammad
Whether they believe in him or they don't
believe.
Because Rasulullah
has been sent as a messenger to the
whole mankind.
So in that sense, it is called Ummatu
da'wah.
Umma to dawah. The ummah of the Prophet
sallallahu alaihi wa sallam, for whom the Prophet
sallallahu alaihi wa sallam brought the message of
the dawah and the tawheed of Allah
And then from within the ummatul dawah, there
is ummatul ijabah.
Ummatul ijabah
are the people who acts who actually
accepted the call
of the prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam. Meaning
the Muslims,
Those who believed in the prophet sallallahu alaihi
wa sallam.
So in this particular hadith,
in which the prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam
said,
All of my ummah will enter into Jannah.
Here the prophet
is not referring to ummah to dawah, not
all man all mankind.
Rather specifically
he is addressing
those
who believed
that Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wa sallam is Allah's
messenger.
He said, All of my ummah will enter
Jannah, except those who refuse.
That is why the companions,
Ridwanullah he al Majma'een, they were surprised and
they said,
Who from your ummah will refuse to enter
Jannah?
How is it possible?
Someone
who calls or someone who believes that he
is your follower, someone who calls himself to
be Muslim, or believer, or Mormon, or your
follower, or part of your ummah.
How is it possible that he or she
refuses to enter in jannah?
The Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam then explained,
he said,
Whoever follows me, whoever obeys me,
he will enter Jannah.
And whoever disobeys me,
he and she himself or herself
have refused to enter Jannah.
Meaning the one who disobeys me,
he or she themselves,
they refuse to enter Jannah.
So, Rasulullah
has warned us.
He has warned us about
opposing the sunnah or the way of Rasulullah
That is why it is important,
that whenever we come across any sunnah sunnah
of the Prophet
any commandment of Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam,
you try your best to act upon it.
Unless you have a reason.
If you have a reason,
then again, do not say this is not
a sunnah. Do not reject the sunnah of
the Prophet
If you have your
limitation,
if you have your
restrictions, if you have your excuses whether they
are valid or not valid, but at least
do not refuse the sunnah of the Prophet
Don't deny it.
The problem is that when you know
the hadith is clear and authentic and is
proven,
there is a some a certain thing is
part of the sunnah of the Prophet sallallahu
alaihi wa sallam, yet you do not accept,
simply saying,
because I never saw my forefathers doing it.
I never saw my imam, my malaana, my
peer, my fulan, fulan, doing this. So how
can he accept it?
Yes, although it is hadith, but it has
nothing to do with me. Because I'm the
follower of so and so.
You simply reject and refuse
to accept the hadees or the sunnah of
the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam.
This is disobedience
to the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam. And
whoever disobeys,
Rasulullah
refuses to enter into
jannah.
And then Imam An Nawawi
has quoted
further ahadis,
indicating
the outcome
or the punishment
of those who refuse
to obey the Prophet
Those who deliberately
go against the commandment of Rasulullah Sallallahu alaihi
wa sallam. And one of them is, the
hadith of Salama ibn al Aqwa radhiallahu ta'ala.
Who says
that there was a person who was
eating something
in the presence of Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wa
sallam with his left hand.
The Prophet
said to him directly,
eat with your right hand.
Clear instruction.
He shouldn't have any excuse,
but he refused out of his pride.
Out of his pride,
he said,
I cannot do that.
He refused straight away.
The Prophet
said, lest the path.
You may not be able to do it.
He made Du'a, he made Du'a against him.
If this is your attitude towards the Messenger
of Allah, you may not be able to
do it.
Then,
Salama radiya Salama will acquire
who says, From that day,
that person was not able to raise
his
right hand
up to his mouth. Never throughout his life,
he could not do that.
This was the punishment for him,
of refusing
to accept Rasulullah
salallahu alaihi wa sallam's
order or commandment.
Or
refusing or rejecting the commandment of Rasulullah sallallahu
alaihi wa sallam out of arrogance and pride.
So this is the punishment that Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala,
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala post on him because
of
opposing the sunnah of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam.
Imam An Nawawi Rahamu Allah is quoted another
hadith
which is collected by Abu Abdullah Numan ibn
Ubashir radiAllahu ta'alaam.
Who says, Samiatur Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam. I
heard the messenger of Allah
say,
You people must straighten your rows,
otherwise
Allah
will cause dissension
amongst
you.
It's a clear warning.
The Prophet
would take a time out after
the
And sometime He would say,
You must straighten your rose,
Otherwise
Allah will cause dissension
and dispute and conflict amongst you.
Have you ever thought about this Hadith?
Nowadays, obviously, everyone mourns on the,
because of the disunity amongst the Muslims.
Have you ever thought about this Hadith?
And this is clearly,
without a doubt,
this is one of the reasons.
This is one of the reasons. Because the
hadith is clear.
If you do not straighten your rose when
you stand in salah before
Allah in jama'ah, in congregation we pray,
out of what? Out of pride,
arrogance.
You have no reason.
Or just simply out of negligence and carelessness,
you do not pay attention to it.
You think it is something that is very
simple, or something that is not important or
insignificant,
you ignore it. But Rasulullah salallahu alaihi wa
sallam is saying,
By Allah, you have to straighten your roles,
Otherwise Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala will cause dissension
and conflict amongst
you. And this is a shorter version of
the narration. The longer version of the narration
which is collected by Imam Muslim
says, The Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam would
straighten our rose.
And remember,
during the time of the prophet
there was no carpet in the masjid. There
were no lines.
They used to pray
on the ground without prayer mats,
on the dust, on the mud.
And the prophet
would straighten their rows, and he would instruct
them to straighten your rows,
and look at the wording of the Hadith,
The Prophet
would make sure that every single row is
straight to the extent that it was as
if He
was
straightening
the arrows
by the rose.
Not the rose by the arrows. Other way
around.
It was as if the prophet
was trying to straighten the arrows
by utilizing the rose to that extent, he
would pay attention and he would encourage his
companions to straighten the rose.
Meaning, the prophet
would not accept
any kind of,
you can say,
gap in the rows or any kind of,
no, or anything that is against straighten the
road. For example, if someone would be just
a few inches ahead or few inches back,
it is against straighten the roads. But unfortunately,
now a days we see,
almost in every single row,
a person is standing here, the other one
is standing here. Okay? So they do not
pay attention to it.
And look at this hadith, the Prophet
when he said this, and, Uman ibn Ubashir
says,
The Prophet
continuously he was reminding us,
to straighten the rules.
Until when he saw, when he
to leave the salah,
fakamahatakada
a
yukabir.
He stood up and he was about to
say, Allahu Akbar. He was about to begin
the salah, Faraa Rajulan Badiyan
Sadru.
He saw only 1 individual, 1 person.
Whose chest was sticking out, and he was
not in the level of the rest of
the people standing in the room. He was
sticking out a bit.
He got upset and he said,
O slaves of Allah,
you must straighten your rows, otherwise Allah will
cause dissension
amongst you.
And his chest, you may think, you
know, how can a person
be
in the level within the road if the
person is bit heavy? But
it seems that,
that was the person who was not really
paying attention to straighten the rows.
And he was not levelling himself
within the row.
So that is why my dear brothers and
sisters in Islam, it is very, very important.
When we stand
in congregational prayer, in jama'ah,
you must pay attention.
You must pay attention to the importance of
stating the roles,
and make sure
that you are in level with other people
within the row.
And you are not behind or forward,
rather the whole suf, the whole row, must
be the same level.
And the best way
to level the row or the saff is,
when you join your heels
from the back.
Never try to straighten the roll from the
from your toes,
because
you have different size of the feet.
Okay?
But if you were to level
the heels, then you can simply, you can,
you can easily,
straighten the rope.
So,
the reason that Imam Nawi rhamahullah has quoted
this hadith in this chapter is to show
that
it is important to follow the sunnah of
Rasulullah salallahu alaihi wa sallam
and not to neglect
the commandment of Rasulullah salallahu alaihi wa sallam.
And not to oppose the sunnah of the
Prophet salallahu alaihi wasallam.
The next hadith is the hadith of Abu
Musa
Al Ashari
who says,
One of the nights,
a house in Madinah
caught a fire,
while
the occupant of the house, they were inside.
So the house
caught a fire.
When the Prophet
was informed about this,
he
warned them, and he reminded them
of his
instruction.
The Prophet
had
instructed the companions, his one Allah ibn Ishmael,
saying that,
make sure
you
put the fire out before you go to
bed.
And these people
carelessly,
they neglected
the instruction of Rasulullah
Hence,
they experienced this, or they faced
this problem.
The house caught the fire and the house
was destroyed.
Just because of not paying attention
to the commandment of Rasulullah
Then he sallallahu alaihi wa sallam again remind
them, he said,
This fire is your enemy,
The fire is your enemy,
When you go to sleep, make sure you
put the fire out,
you extinguish it before you go to sleep.
So, again,
the reason the Imam An Nawi
has quoted this hadith in in this chapter
to show, that if the person, deliberately and
intentionally
opposes the sunnah, or the instruction, or the
commandment of Rasulullah
he can be afflicted by major calamity.
And this is what Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
has warned us in the Quran.
At the end of Suratunnoor,
Let those who oppose
the commandment of Rasulullah salallahu
alaihi wa sallam be afraid
that
Allah
may send His punishment on them.
Oh, they become afflicted by a great trial
and test.
Oh, the severe punishment from Allah
Just because of opposing
the commandment of Rasulullah
The next hadith is also
the hadith of Sayyidina Abu Musa Allah Shali
radiAllahu ta'ala and who says,
He sallallahu alaihi wa sallam said,
Verily the parable of
the guidance and the knowledge by which Allah
Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala has sent
me is like a rain, asaba argan,
the rain that
falls on a land.
Not every single part of the land or
every single part of the earth is the
same.
Rather the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam explained,
he said, They are, generally there are 3
types of land.
He said,
1 part of the land or one part
of the earth is that is really good.
And, The land that has accepted the water,
the water of the rain, it has absorbed
the water,
and then in result of that,
the the land or the earth has brought
forth
the grass and the herbs.
And the other type of land, or other
type of earth is,
which is solid.
The land that does not absorb the water,
but But Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala has benefited
the
people,
those who benefited from that water.
The land did not absorb the water, The
earth did not absorb the water, but people
actually benefited from the water. They drunk the
water and they provide
the water to others as well to benefit
from it, and to drink it,
and they also irrigate it.
They used the water for irrigation as well.
So they benefited from the water.
Although
the land, the earth itself did not absorb
the water, and they did not grow forth
any kind of grass or herbs, or any
vegetation.
So this is the second type of the
land.
And there is 3rd type of land, O
earth.
That is sandy, sandy
land.
Which does not hold the water, rather it
absorb the water.
It takes the water in,
and by in result of that what happened?
It does not even bring forth, it does
not produce any
grass, or any vegetation, or any herb.
Absorb the water,
but
without any benefit.
Then he salallahu alaihi wa sallam said,
So this is
the parable of this is the likeness
of the one
who tries to understand the deen of Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala. Subhanahu wa ta'ala.
So the prophet shalallahu alaihi wa sallam is
actually saying
that, those from within my umma, the people
of my umma are can be divided into
3 categories.
The first one are those who accept
the guidance and the knowledge, and they try
to understand, they absorb,
and they try to increase continuously,
keep increasing their knowledge of the deen of
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. The Quran and the
sunnah, the hadith of Rasulullah Sallallahu
Alaihi Wasallam.
And
they benefit themselves, and they also benefit others.
Fa'alima wa'alam,
the person learns and he teaches as well.
He continuously
learns,
and continuously teaches.
So this is the best type of people,
this is the best category of the people.
And the second one is,
similar to the land.
The land that has held the water,
it did not absorb the water, but other
people have benefited.
So this is the example of those,
who just simply
carry the knowledge.
They do not benefit from their own knowledge.
They do not really benefit from their own
knowledge.
Then meaning, they do not try to act
upon what they have gained, what they have
learned.
But, because they are teaching others, other people
are benefiting.
Other people are benefiting.
And the scholars have see said this in
the explanation of this part of the hadith,
that this is probably
referring to those
who carry the book of Allah
Those who have memorized the Quran, those who
have memorized the ahadith.
But,
not every single person who has memorized the
Quran,
has understood the Quran.
There are many
we see I mean, in our experience,
we see many hafaf.
There are so many people who have memorized
the Quran,
but they do not understand anything.
So their example is similar to that kind
of land,
which actually
holds the water,
does not absorbs it,
rather other people are benefiting. So the one
who have memorized the Quran, he may benefit
others, he may teach them.
Other people are benefiting from his teaching, but
he himself is not trying to understand it,
he's not trying to
act upon it.
And the 3rd type of language is the
worst one or less or least benefit.
There's very
minimum benefit, or there's no benefit you can
say.
It's the 3rd type of people.
3rd category of people.
Those
who have the opportunity to learn the deen
of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
As similar to that land,
that Allah
sent the rain on that land.
It is not that the land was dry
and the there was no water and the
rain did not fall on on that land.
The rain did fall on that land.
Similar,
that 3rd type of people, 3rd category of
people.
They do have the opportunity to learn the
deen of Allah. They do have the opportunity
to learn the Quran, the sunnah of the
prophet
But they do not either benefit themselves,
nor they benefit others.
So, these are the 3 categories within the
umma of Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wasallam.
We as a Muslim, as a true followers
of Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam,
should try our best
to
be amongst the first category.
Those who continuously learn the deen of Allah,
try to
increase our knowledge of the Quran, the sunnah
of Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam, and also
benefit others.
As Sayyidun Abdullah ibn Surud
used to say,
Bewey this whole world
is cursed.
Cursed means something
that has no benefit,
away from the mercy of Allah
Except 3 things. Except 3.
The first one is
the Someone who holds the knowledge of the
deen of Allah.
A learned person.
The person of knowledge.
The second one is, Mutaalim. The one who
the one who seeks knowledge. First one is
the alim, the one who already has knowledge
and he teaches others.
And the second one is the one who
learns
the deen of Allah
And the third
thing that is exempted from this curse is
the zikrullah, the remembrance of Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala. Except these 3,
every single thing in this duniya is cursed,
it has no benefit.
So again based on this statement of Abdullah
ibn Sirud, and
in some of the narration he said that,
this is statement of Rasoolullah sallallahu alaihi wa
sallam, We should try our best to be
always engaged
in seeking knowledge continuously.
As we have mentioned so many times, the
statement of Imam al Shafi'i Rahimahullah
who used to say,
the point when the person
believes that he or she has enough knowledge,
that is the beginning of the ignorance.
That is the beginning of your ignorance.
Allah says in the Quran,
above every knowledgeable
person,
another one who is who has more knowledge.
And this is one of the greatest lessons
that we learn
from the story of Sayyidun al Musa and
Khadir
In Suratul Kahf, the surah that we are
encouraged to read
every Friday,
at least once a week. So that we
are reminded of the importance of seeking knowledge
continuously.
In one way or the other, some form
of shape, you must keep yourself engaged in
seeking knowledge.
By attending
the circle like this,
by enrolling into one of the courses,
learn the Quran, how to recite Quran, how
to understand Quran,
read the meaning of the Quran, the translation
of the Quran, go through some lectures, watch
some lectures.
If not, in person,
online, so So nowadays, you should not have
an excuse
for not seeking knowledge.
Keep yourself busy with seeking knowledge all the
time.
And most importantly,
make dua to Allah
The dua that Allah
recommended to our Nabi sallallahu alaihi wa sallam.
Say, O Muhammad salallahu alaihi wasallam, O my
Lord, increase me in my knowledge.
Increase me in my knowledge. We ask Allah
that He
gives us tawfiq and ability to continuously
increase our knowledge, And may Allah
also give us tawfiq and ability to act
upon whatever we learn and whatever we hear
and whatever we say.
