I wanna quickly tell you a story
about the saddest day in human history.
The saddest day in human history
that led to
1 of, if not the greatest periods of
enlightenment
in human history until the day of judgment.
This day happened
over a 1000 years ago.
Our Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam
had been suffering an illness
for quite some time.
His illness was so severe that he cannot
even leave his home
to lead salah
and his own masjid.
So in his absence, he appointed his best
friend, 1 of the earliest of Muslims,
1 of the best of us,
the first to enter Jannah after the Andia,
Abu Bakr as Sadiq
to lead in his place.
On this particular day,
Abu Bakr had taken permission from the Prophet
to visit some relatives in a suburb of
Medina
known
as Saqifa.
The Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam was in
the house of his beloved wife, Aisha
If you don't understand that this is the
saddest day in human history,
then do some more digging deep inside of
your heart, and the love that you should
have for the Prophet
He was in
1 of the companions, the name literally just
slipped my mind. 1 of the companions came
in,
and he was holding a siwak
in his hand. We know the
Prophet loved
the siwak. He even said
that, If I did not think it would
be a burden upon you, I would have
ordered you to use the siwak before every
salah.
Aisha
knowing her husband,
she saw him looking at the siwak.
And so she asked him, Do you want
it, O Messenger of Allah? And he nodded
and said, Yes.
So she took that suwak,
softened it with her own saliva,
and then brushed his most blessed teeth.
That brushing would become the last thing
he would ever
taste
in this life.
At that moment, it was
unrealized by Aisha
But the Angel of death had presented itself
to our most beloved Prophet
The best of Allah's creation,
the best thing that Allah has ever created,
was our beloved Prophet
The best of His creation.
The Angel of death has presented himself to
our Prophet
And the Prophet
told us that when the angel of death
presents himself to the Nba,
he has to do 2 things. For you
and I, the conversation will be one-sided.
He will present himself to us and he
would tell the soul to come out. It
will either be, O blessed soul, come out
to the mercy of Allah
and His pleasure, Or O ul khabif soul,
come out to the anger of Allah and
His wrath? There's
no
negotiation. But with the anbia,
they have such a high status that even
the angel of death has to take permission
to take their soul.
And before he asked them to take their
soul,
he shows them their place in jannah.
He shows them their place in paradise,
and then he gives them a choice
to either go
to this place and be with Allah
or spend a little bit more time with
your people.
So this was happening, and Aisha was unbeknownst.
She did not realize it. But she said,
I saw the Prophet
began to look at the roof of my
house,
and he started to smile.
What is he looking at? He's looking at
the pinnacle of Jannah. He's looking at the
highest point of Jannah, above which there is
nothing except
except the Arsh of Allah There is no
more higher inhabitable place in paradise,
other than the place of our beloved
Messenger After his 23 years of turmoil, after
his 23 years of sacrifice,
after so much that he had done for
this ummah, so much that he had done
for mankind, he has been showing his final
resting place,
and the angel of death is giving him
the choice.
Do you want to go here? Or do
you wanna stay with your people a little
while longer? Realize how much he loved us
by the way. He loved us so much,
but for sure
he loved Allah
the most.
She said, I heard him began to see,
began to say,
Allahumma rafiqalala. Allahumma
rafiqalala.
Oh Allah, the companion who is on the
Most High. O Allah, the companion who is
Most High. O Allah, the companion who is
Most High. She said, At that moment, I
realized that the
most
blessed
soul, the Then the angel of death
took the most blessed soul that Allah has
ever created,
and He placed it in the highest ranks
of jannah that have ever
existed. That is the saddest moment in the
history of humanity.
You must concept that. That is the saddest
moment that the history of humanity will ever
face,
was the death of the Prophet Muhammad
There are many companions who realize this.
When Aisha spread this news,
the companions
had no idea what to do.
1 of the greatest of the companions,
his name Umar ibn
Khattab
A man's man.
A man who was so strong in his
faith that the Prophet
said that if he was on a road,
and shaitaan happened to be on that same
road, shaitaan would divert his path in order
not to confront Umar ibn al Khattab directly.
The same man whom the Prophet
said that, There will be no Prophet after
me, but if there were to be 1,
it would be Umar ibn Khattab.
This Umar, when he heard the news that
the Prophet
had died,
he could not accept it.
He could not accept it.
This is a man whom he learned to
love more than his own soul that was
in his body that Allah created for him.
You remember the story when he told the
Prophet Oh Messenger of Allah, there is no
1 on this earth I love more than
you, more than my own soul. And he
said, O Umar, you must love me more
than you love your own soul. He said,
I love you more than I love my
own soul.
He lost it on that day.
He pulled out a sword and started threatening
people.
This is the
same
that less than 2 decades before
had that exact same sword in his hand,
and was on his way to kill the
prophet Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam in his mission.
Now less than 2 decades later, he has
the same sword in his hand because he
cannot bear to think to live a day
on this earth without his most beloved.
He could not wrap his mind around waking
up and on a day when the Prophet
Muhammad
is not on this earth.
So he started threatening the people in Mashul
Nabawi and said, If you say that Muhammad
is dead, I will kill you myself. He
went to be with Allah just like Musa
went to be with Allah, and he will
come back to us. He has to come
back to us. We cannot live without him.
This is the greatest man to walk the
face of this earth after the Anba and
Abu Bakr. This is the best of us,
and he's losing it.
When the message reads Abu Bakr
he immediately rushes from saqifa
and runs into the house of his daughter,
Aisha
And he sees the Prophet is
covered by a sheet.
He removes that cover
and he smiles
at his best friend.
His best friend, his most beloved,
his trusted companion,
the person whom he loved the most on
this life.
And he smiled and he kissed his forehead
and said, You are even more beautiful in
death
than you were in life. And he was
the most handsome that Allah ever created.
Then he covered him back up, and he
walked out to the masjid, and he saw
the commotion
that was going on. He saw Umar threatening
people.
Look at the wisdom of the Prophet
in putting him in his place.
He told Umar, he said, Chill out. Calm
down. And he got up on the mimbar
of the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam.
And he said his famous statement, O people,
if you worshiped Muhammad
sallallahu alaihi wasallam,
Muhammad is dead,
as we all will die. But if you
worshiped Allah,
then know that Allah is al Hay. He
is the 1 who lives and never dies.
And then he quoted the verse, If he
dies or is killed, will you then turn
back on your heels?
Omar said when he heard this verse, it
is as if he had heard it again
for the first time, and his legs could
not support him even when he fell.
This is the saddest day in human history.
It was understood the most by a woman,
an old woman.
Her name was Ayman
If you want to know who Ayman is,
you have to go very far back into
the seerah of the Prophet
She is the woman who took care of
him after the death of his mother Amina.
And he referred to her as ummi after
my ummi,
mother after my mother.
Whenever she would walk into the room, he
would get up and give her his place.
He would treat her the same way you
should treat your mother. If you want to
look at this
the the the prophetic way of treating your
mother, look at the way in the suiry
he treated Umayman.
She watched him grow up. She watched him
become a prophet. She watched him get turned
on. She watched him get banished. She watched
the hijra. She watched all the battles. She
watched Fathul Makkah,
and then she watched him die.
On that day when Umar and Abu Bakr
told her what happened, she began to cry
profusely.
And they tried to comfort her by saying,
Don't worry, Aiman.
It's okay. Where he has gone is much
better than where he has stayed with us
for these past 23 years.
This is what we have to understand.
She said, I am not crying because of
his death.
Every soul is going to die.
She said, I am crying
because
the has stopped.
She understood the real implications of the death
of the last messenger of Allah.
That with his death, Allah would stop revealing
to us. With his death, Allah would stop
speaking to us in the form of revelation.
There would be no more
verses revealed from Allah
Allah would never speak to us directly again
in the form of this revelation
until the day of judgement when we stand
in front of him.
That was the real sadness for her is
that the beautiful words from Allah
that we used We used to wait for
them, we used to ask the messenger of
Allah questions
just so that we could hear
from Allah
Because every single verse of the Quran is
kalamullah.
It is the speech of Allah It is
your Creator
talking directly to you in an intimate conversation.
She knew that that had come to an
end.
And when Abu Bakr and Umar realized this,
they began to cry as well.
But they understood something about that
gravity
that we have in the west as a
majority of this ummah failed to understand.
They understood that yes, maybe Allah has stopped
speaking,
but that is only because he has said
everything He needed to say.
Allah has stopped revealing things to us only
because He said everything
He needed
to say.
And the very last thing he said to
us,
And fear a day in which you will
be turned to Allah. This was revealed a
few days before the death of the Prophet
But they understood something about that. They understood
that yes, the revelation may have stopped,
but that does not mean that people have
to stop hearing Allah speak to them.
And they knew, they knew
that the only way
that the anyone else, anyone else on this
planet other than the Muslims who existed at
the time would ever hear Allah speak to
them again was if they went out and
did the job of conveying the message
of the awwah.
The same thing that was commanded from the
Prophet
That was commanded to him and it was
left to us. The same thing that Allah
Subhanahu wa ta'ala described and says,
I call it to Allah by Allah's permission
and a lamp giving beautiful light. The same
thing when Allah
commanded him to say,
Say, I This is my path. I call
to Allah upon sure knowledge.
Me and those who follow me. They understood
that if we go out and share this
message with mankind,
it will continue.
And it did continue
They did their job impeccably. This is why
Allah says about them,
They are the best nation to have ever
come forward for mankind.
And then the generation after them, they did
it. The generation after them, they did it.
They followed the order of Allah that there
must always be a group from amongst you
that are calling to that which is good
and forbidding that which is evil.
And it is these who will be successful.
It is because of this unbroken chain of
people and this ummah who have understood the
ramifications of the death of the prophet sallallahu
alaihi wa sallam that Islam made it to
you and me.
It is because of this fact that Islam
has made it to the countries where you
grew up in and were born and raised
as a Muslim. It is because of this
fact that Islam reached me in South Carolina,
in a small town in 1998.
Brothers and sisters,
even though that was the saddest day in
human history, it began the greatest enlightenment that
the world will ever know. That is the
enlightenment of truth.
Because of the efforts of every generation before
us, Islam has remained preserved in its original
form to this day.
What is our job?
Our job is to make sure that it
makes it to the next generation exactly how
it made it to us. That is our
job. You have to see it as a
job. You have to see it as a
responsibility.
You have to see it as an order
from Allah. You have to see it as
something that is paramountly important to the survival
of our ummah,
and to the survival of humanity.
I'll leave you with this,
because Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says, I believe
in suratulhud,
that I will not punish a people
as long as there is a warner amongst
them.
I will not punish a people, meaning I
will not destroy a people like he did
with the people of Lut, like he did
with the people of A'ad, like he did
with the people of Thamud, like he did
with the people of Nuh. He said, I
will not punish them
as long as there is a warner amongst
them.
As long as there is a group of
us on this planet who are willing to
go out and share the message of La'ilaha
illallah with the world, command good and forbid
evil, then Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala will continue
to bless us with another generation, and another
generation, and another generation.
We have a decision to make, brothers and
sisters. We will be either be the ummah
that continues this lineage, continues this linkage,
Maybe we can make a revival in it
because there's not enough of us doing it
anymore. Maybe we can make a revival in
it, or we can be the that begins
this decline. And if that happens, I promise
you. I promise you. I have no question
about this. On the day of judgment, we
will bear a very heavy burden.
This last thing I will tell you.
Because the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam commanded
us. After Allah commanded us,
the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam commanded us,
us,
Convey from me even if it's 1 verse.
And Allah commanded us,
Obey Allah and obey His Messenger.
On the day of judgment,
the Prophet
the greatest of mankind,
will be given an honor that no other
Prophet will be given. He has given something
called the haud,
the basin, or the water fountain, whatever it
looks like. But it will be a fountain
of water that will be only for this
umma. Only for this umma. And the Prophet
sallallahu alaihi wa sallam will give each and
every 1 of us a sip from it
with his own hands.
Can you imagine that day?
Can you imagine?
After all this time, after all this struggle,
to walk up to the Prophet sallallahu alaihi
wasallam,
and for him to congratulate you,
and say, You did what I asked you
to do. And he hands you this water,
and you drink from it, and after that
you'll never be thirsty again. You'll never you'll
never have any thirst ever again.
But the Prophet
warned us that on that day, there will
be an Angel guarding his haud, and he
will see him pushing people back and telling
them to go away.
Telling them to go away. And he will
go to this angel and say, Why are
you pushing my people back? These are my
people.
He will say, Yes, but you don't know
what they did after you.
You don't know what they did after you.
They did what you told them not to
do, and they didn't do what you told
them to do.
They did what You told them not to
do, and they did not do what You
told them to do. And the prophet alaihis
salatu wasalam said,
All of my ummah will enter paradise.
We should rejoice in that. He said, All
of my ummah will enter paradise.
Except for those who refuse.
How many of you in here, by a
show of hands, would refuse to go to
paradise?
No? No 1?
So how do we refuse? They said, How
can we refuse, oh Messenger Allah?
He said,
Those who obey me, they will go to
paradise.
But those who disobey Me, they have indeed
refused.
So let us take lesson from this most
horrible day in humanity with the death of
the prophet alaihis salatu wasalam and realize that
he left us with a unique opportunity
to share in the rewards that only the
NBIA were able to get, and that is
to go out and be the the torchbearers
of Tawhid in a world that is lost.
This world has fallen into depravity,
debauchery,
all kinds of darkness.
It is ruled by shayateen
in men and women's skin. This
world today is being ruled by men and
women in
shayateen in men and women's skin. But who
has the truth? We do.
The world needs us. The world needs us.
But it is up to us whether or
not we are going to do something about
it. So let us take some lesson from
this and get to work spreading this most
beautiful religion, this nidma from Allah subhanahu wa
ta that he has given us.
