00:00:00 --> 00:00:01

Hey there, everybody.

00:00:01 --> 00:00:01

As-salamu alaykum.

00:00:02 --> 00:00:04

Hello, and welcome to Let's Grow with Yusuf

00:00:04 --> 00:00:05

Reza.

00:00:05 --> 00:00:07

Yes, this show is all about growth, and

00:00:07 --> 00:00:09

that's all we're going to be covering, talking

00:00:09 --> 00:00:12

about looking to achieve your personal growth, you

00:00:12 --> 00:00:15

becoming the best version of yourself.

00:00:16 --> 00:00:18

Two sets of obstacles that I've been able

00:00:18 --> 00:00:21

to identify that impede growth, that stop us

00:00:21 --> 00:00:22

from becoming that best version of ourselves.

00:00:23 --> 00:00:26

The first has to do with negativity, and

00:00:26 --> 00:00:28

the second has to do with false concepts.

00:00:28 --> 00:00:31

The negativity can be internal or external.

00:00:31 --> 00:00:34

The toxic environment that you're part of, the

00:00:34 --> 00:00:37

spewing of discouraging comments that come from people

00:00:37 --> 00:00:39

around you, or those negative emotions that come

00:00:39 --> 00:00:41

from within that don't let you do what

00:00:41 --> 00:00:42

you know you have to do.

00:00:43 --> 00:00:45

And then those false concepts can also be

00:00:45 --> 00:00:47

either external or internal.

00:00:47 --> 00:00:50

The external ones, I call them cultural pathologies.

00:00:50 --> 00:00:53

Ideas that have become popular, beliefs that people

00:00:53 --> 00:00:56

have just internalized without there being any basis

00:00:56 --> 00:00:58

to them, except that they impede growth.

00:00:59 --> 00:01:01

And then internally, they take the form of

00:01:01 --> 00:01:05

rationalizations or excuses and justifications that you and

00:01:05 --> 00:01:07

I come up with when we don't do

00:01:07 --> 00:01:09

what we know we should be doing.

00:01:09 --> 00:01:09

Right?

00:01:09 --> 00:01:10

So what are we going to do?

00:01:10 --> 00:01:12

We're going to address that negativity by bringing

00:01:12 --> 00:01:15

in as much positivity as we possibly can

00:01:15 --> 00:01:19

in this show, bringing in the inspiration that

00:01:19 --> 00:01:22

is necessary to inspire the positivity to come

00:01:22 --> 00:01:23

from within you.

00:01:23 --> 00:01:26

And then the false concepts, we're going to

00:01:26 --> 00:01:30

foremost identify them for what they are, talk

00:01:30 --> 00:01:32

about what's wrong with them and why they're

00:01:32 --> 00:01:35

wrong, and then replace them with the true

00:01:35 --> 00:01:39

concepts that are necessary for our growth, which

00:01:39 --> 00:01:43

are going to be scientifically informed, philosophically grounded,

00:01:43 --> 00:01:45

and scripturally guided.

00:01:45 --> 00:01:48

And my background in psychiatry, psychology, and logotherapy,

00:01:49 --> 00:01:50

plus my teaching of the Quran at a

00:01:50 --> 00:01:54

public level, places me uniquely to be able

00:01:54 --> 00:01:57

to address it from all of these multiple

00:01:57 --> 00:01:58

dimensions.

00:01:58 --> 00:02:00

I hope you're able to benefit from this

00:02:00 --> 00:02:03

show, which looks to not only contribute to

00:02:03 --> 00:02:07

individual growth, but how that individual growth will

00:02:07 --> 00:02:09

then lead to the development of a true

00:02:09 --> 00:02:09

community.

00:02:10 --> 00:02:13

And this is our share, our part that

00:02:13 --> 00:02:15

we're playing towards that end.

00:02:16 --> 00:02:18

There's five features that I've come up with

00:02:18 --> 00:02:20

as to how I can do that using

00:02:20 --> 00:02:21

this show.

00:02:21 --> 00:02:22

First of them is Q&A.

00:02:23 --> 00:02:24

You ask me the questions, I give you

00:02:24 --> 00:02:27

the answers as best as I possibly can.

00:02:27 --> 00:02:30

Number two, inspirations from around the world.

00:02:30 --> 00:02:32

People who've been there, done that, we bring

00:02:32 --> 00:02:35

them in, we talk to them and learn

00:02:35 --> 00:02:38

the lessons that their experiences have to offer

00:02:38 --> 00:02:39

us.

00:02:39 --> 00:02:41

Number three, meet the expert.

00:02:41 --> 00:02:44

People who really excelled in their field become

00:02:44 --> 00:02:46

specialized in any area of expertise.

00:02:46 --> 00:02:48

We talk to them as to what their

00:02:48 --> 00:02:52

field, what their understanding has to offer us

00:02:52 --> 00:02:56

as educated laypeople to contribute to our growth.

00:02:57 --> 00:02:59

Number four, message from the East.

00:02:59 --> 00:03:02

This particularly focuses on the poetry of one

00:03:02 --> 00:03:06

person, Allama Muhammad Iqbal, the South Asian poet

00:03:06 --> 00:03:08

and philosopher, one of the founding fathers of

00:03:08 --> 00:03:12

Pakistan, as to how his poetry is capable

00:03:12 --> 00:03:17

of galvanizing individuals no matter where we may

00:03:17 --> 00:03:17

be.

00:03:17 --> 00:03:18

So we're going to be focusing on that.

00:03:19 --> 00:03:20

The fifth and final feature is going to

00:03:20 --> 00:03:22

be Qur'an daily.

00:03:22 --> 00:03:25

Yes, this is going to be us talking

00:03:25 --> 00:03:27

about lessons from the Qur'an from cover

00:03:27 --> 00:03:29

to cover, from the beginning to end, that

00:03:29 --> 00:03:32

can help us develop to the better people

00:03:32 --> 00:03:34

that we need to become.

00:03:34 --> 00:03:38

Yes, this final feature is primarily focused towards

00:03:38 --> 00:03:40

a Muslim audience, but it should serve to

00:03:40 --> 00:03:43

be educational for a non-Muslim audience as

00:03:43 --> 00:03:44

well.

00:03:44 --> 00:03:46

Right, so that's what we have to offer.

00:03:47 --> 00:03:49

I look forward to developing these themes with

00:03:49 --> 00:03:50

you, these features with you.

00:03:50 --> 00:03:53

I require your feedback, I require your participation,

00:03:54 --> 00:03:57

your liking, sharing as much as possible, and

00:03:57 --> 00:04:01

that will help me develop this further and

00:04:01 --> 00:04:01

further.

00:04:01 --> 00:04:03

Thank you very much for watching.

00:04:03 --> 00:04:05

I will see you in all of the

00:04:05 --> 00:04:09

other features with all of these ideas that

00:04:09 --> 00:04:09

we've developed.

00:04:10 --> 00:04:11

Thank you very much once again.

00:04:12 --> 00:04:12

Bye-bye!
