Yasir Khan – Weekly Seerah Session Preparing for Hijrah to Madinah
AI: Summary ©
The speaker discusses the actions of the prophet sallali Alaihi wa Sallam, who directed his companions to leave the Bayatul Aqaba, where he faced secretive activities. The decision to leave was made based on faith and trust, and the plan is to kill the whole tribe at night with Shaitan, using the plan to protect the whole tribe and surrounding the house. The plan is to go through a small door from the back and not go through a small door from the back, and to go to the town ofialhira and not go through the footsteps of the prophet salallahu alaihi wa sallam.

We will pick up from where we left
off last week, which was the Bayatul Aqaba.
The prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam's hard work,
his persistence,
his resilience, all of that is paying off
by the seeds sprouting in Madinah.
And we said that it was all because
of the efforts of one young man, Musa'ib
ibn Umayr radiAllahu anhu who went there, who
dedicated himself to the cause of spreading Islam.
And subhanallah, within 1 year, he brings 70
over 70 people to accept Islam.
And so we spoke about how the whole
and
everything goes and now the prophet
he gives permission to his companions that if
you guys have to leave, go ahead, leave.
And the reason for that is because the
the were getting harder and harder to deal
with. They were looking for different ways to
torture the Muslims.
They were looking for different ways to basically
stop the spread of Islam. And that's why
the prophet salallahu alaihi wasalam is like, you
guys can go. Now when the Muslims started
to go,
they are all going in very secret
way. And the reason for that is because
we've already seen what happened when they try
to go to Habasha.
When they try to go to Habasha, the
it didn't settle well with them. They wanted
them to, you know, be sent back by
An Najashi.
They did not want them to go because
they wanted,
you know, they they did not want the
spread of Islam.
And so now,
the muslims know that that's what's going to
happen. So they're trying to stop people from
going there. They're trying to stop from the
Puris from anybody
finding out that they're going to Medina.
So everybody starts to go secretly,
secretly, secretly.
One person though, we could all guess who
he may be, he goes to right to
the Matawaf,
right to where the people are gathered and
doing tawaf and all that, and he says
that, Hey, listen up guys.
I'm about to go and migrate,
and if any of you want your wife
or your children to cry over you or
to miss you, then come and meet me
behind the valley over there. Can anybody guess
who it maybe?
Umar
He was not afraid, he was not scared,
he just goes, makes the announcement and leaves.
But then we see the Prophet
he actually went and inshallah we're gonna go
through the steps of how the Prophet
went, And he went in a very private
and a very secret manner.
So the question that arises over here
is that, is Omar Radhiallahu Anhu more brave
than the prophet
How is it that Omar radiAllahu anhu went
and with all the strength made the announcement
that, guys, I'm leaving. Anybody wants to fight,
come fight me. Whereas the prophet sallallahu alaihi
wa sallam, he's planning to go in a
nice secret way. Why is that?
Because
what Umar
do is individually
for him.
What the Prophet
does is actually
a sharia, it's actually the way for all
the Muslims to follow.
So for somebody
to be brave because his own life is
only at risk. But for the prophet
to do that had he gone
and had he done it in an open
and a brave manner,
it would have been upon all of us
till today to do the same thing.
But because of the mercy of Allah everything
the prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam did was
in a way that considered you and I.
Because he knew that we would be, you
know, we wouldn't have the strength to stand
up,
the strength to do all that. He knew
that there must be an easy way for
us,
and the easy way is to go in
a way that you do not put your
faith, you do not put your, you know,
iman at risk.
And so the prophet
way is setting an example for us. Now
we're gonna go through the way of the
prophet salallahu alaihi wa sallam, how he went
and what lessons can we learn from this.
And this is very important for us. Why?
Because it shows us a balance.
A lot of times, when we don't study
the deen
completely,
when we don't study the of the prophet
completely, what we will do is take one
portion of deen and we will say this
is deen.
But when you look at everything holistically, you
understand.
Over here, how many of you know that
to
rely on Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is part
of deen?
Everybody here knows
that to rely on Allah, to leave everything
and just focus on Allah and let Allah
do everything. Everybody here knows that this is
part of deen or no? Everybody knows.
However,
when you look at the story of the
Hijra of the prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam,
you will realize
tons and dozens of examples
in which the prophet salallahu alaihi wa sallam,
he had
but he had it attached to something else.
And that was what? That was to use
the means that was available to him. Materialistic
perspective, from a planning perspective to do whatever
was possible. And after that, he relies on
Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala.
When we don't learn it this way, what
do we say?
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala leave the matter and
Allah will take care of it. But when
we look at it from this lens, we
realize that actually they go hand in hand.
The prophet
when Allah
gave permission to the Muslims to go, the
first thing is,
does the prophet
just get up and leave?
No. He does not leave. Abu Bakr radiAllahu
anhu goes to the prophet salallahu alaihi wa
sallam and tells them, oh prophet of Allah,
I want to go to Madinah
because he sees everybody is leaving.
The prophet salallahu alaihi wa sallam tells them,
just wait
because I'm waiting
for Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala to give me
permission to go as well.
And so even though the permission was there
for the believers, the prophet salallahu alaihi wa
sallam in every single thing in his life
waited for a specific permission from Allah Subhanahu
wa ta'ala and then did everything according to
that. He did not say I'm a prophet.
He did not say, okay, I am ready
to go. I'm ready to do this. I'm
ready to do that. No. He waited for
for the permission from Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala
even though situation is getting riskier and riskier
because as the are finding out that the
Muslims are leaving, they're getting anxious. They want
to do something about it
And the prophet is left there only with
very few people.
He's left there with very few people. So
now what's going to do? So now the
prophet
at this point, he waits for the order
from Allah
to come. Right? And so, when he tells
Abu Bakr who's this, Abu Bakr is like,
really you're going to go? He's like, yes,
I'm going to go. He's like, I want
to come, I want to accompany you. He's
like inshallah, you will accompany me And at
this point Abu Bakr radiAllahu one who goes
and now look at the planning, the planning
starts.
They don't just say, okay, talk all Allah,
we'll figure it out then when the time
comes. The first thing they go is they
prepare their right to go all the way
to Madina.
They didn't just say, okay, we'll provide Allah
will send Burak. You know how he sent
it in Isra wal Mi'raj? Don't worry, Allah
got me. He didn't say that. He said,
let's plan for it. Let's figure out the
right the transportation
situation
and therefore Abu Bakr radiallahu anhu goes and
he
gets 2 camels ready. He starts to feed
them specific, you know, food and starts to
basically get them ready. Then the prophet
is waiting.
He's waiting for the day that he's going
to be giving the order to leave. And
when he's giving, giving the order to leave
at this point, he doesn't just think about
himself,
doesn't think about,
you know, just okay.
Just run run run to Allah.
No. He thinks about multiple things. Number 1,
he thinks about his trust.
He thinks about his reputation.
He thinks about
the people.
And because at that time,
even though the Quraysh subhanAllah look at this
point. The Quraysh, they called him what?
Did they call him a soothsayer?
Did they call him a liar?
Did they call him a magician?
Did they call him anything that came to
their mind or no? They did. But despite
all of these things, they knew the deep
reality down in their hearts.
And what was that? That this person is
the most true the most trustworthy person, and
therefore, all the belongings that they had, there
was no bank to go get a safe.
All the belongings and the precious items that
they had, they took it and they gave
it to the prophet salallahu alaihi wa sallam
and said, keep this for us.
The prophet salallahu alaihi wa sallam now has
everybody's, you know,
items.
All the stuff that people entrusted him with,
he has all of that. So what is
the prophet salallahu alaihi wa sallam do? He
does not say, let me just go, we'll
figure this out later. No. We're going to
figure this out right now.
Why? Because
his trust,
his image, his reputation,
his commitment,
all of that is tied to it. And
so he tells Ali radhiallahu anhu a'li, can
you come?
And can you
tonight take over my spot?
And when I leave, this is the stuff
of this is the belongings of the people
that I've been entrusted with. I want you
to give it back to the people.
And so, again, he's planning. He's not just
saying,
just go.
He's planning.
Now he's over there. Then
he's basically now says,
and he tells,
sleep on my spot.
And here, take this shawl of mine
and put this over yourself, you'll be good
inshallah, I will see you in what? I
will see you in in Madinah.
Side point over here. Later on in Madinah,
when Ali radhiyallahu reached to Madinah,
somebody asked him, Ali,
on that day,
when you knew
that the Quraysh have planned such a plan
I'll mention the plan in a minute.
That such a plan that all of them
are there to kill you.
Were you not scared? He said, to be
honest, I was scared.
But the moment the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam
told me that, Ali, I will see you
in Madinah,
all my fear went away because I said,
in order for me to see the prophet
in Madinah, I must be safe.
This was their iman in the in the
sayings of the prophet
They he didn't say, oh, prophet of Allah,
is this Wahi or not? Is this from
Quran or Buhari?
He did not say any of that. The
of the
prophet that's it. It was enough
to give him such comfort at time where
he knew that he could die tonight.
That he said, I slept so peacefully
knowing that I will see the prophet
The plan that the Quraysh have conspired
is all of them are like, what do
we do with this guy?
And they all gather up
and they're all thinking, what are we going
to do? One guy gives a plan. Shaitan
even joined this meeting.
One guy gives a plan, and they're like,
it's not gonna work out. Another guy gives
a plan, no, it's not gonna work out.
Another guy and another guy, and finally, Abu
Jahl comes with a plan.
This Fir'aun, he has good eye. Shaitan, he
whispers to, you know, his beloveds. So Shaitan
came and gave him a very good plan.
The plan is listen.
We're going to we're all tribal society.
This tribe and this tribe and this tribe
and this tribe.
If we, as an individual, one person goes
and kills him, the whole Banu Hashim is
gonna get together
and gonna take revenge from this tribe.
But if we all to come together,
join hands for we
see this a lot. Join hands for join
hands
to oppress, to kill.
Let's do all of that. Everybody is going
to we are going to choose 1 strong,
brave man from every single tribe,
and they're all going to get together on
this moment,
this time at night. They're all going to
surround the house of Muhammad salallahu alaihi wa
sallam.
And at this point, we're they're all going
to attack one attack.
So, therefore, nobody could put a finger on
any specific group, any specific tribe that the
prophet salallahu alaihi wasallam was killed by this
person. In fact, it's going to be all
the tribes together. So who are they going
to fight first?
The Banu Hajim is not gonna be able
to fight. To be honest with you, when
you think about it from a worldly perspective,
it's a pretty clever plan. Shaitan will help
you with all types of clever plans. You
don't never have to worry about that. You
want to do the effort of?
You don't have to do a half of
or most of the work will be done
for Shaitan by Shaitan for you.
So now
this is the plan. They're all going to
come tonight.
Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam has given.
He's informed by Allah.
That's why he told Abu Bakr
That's why he's prepared the camels. That's why
he told
to come. Look at it, all of these.
These are all
Now
nighttime,
is there. The prophet
all
of the
all the people who are supposed to kill
the prophet
they're all surrounded
by the prophet's
house. They're surrounding the house. They're ready to
wait for
that moment to kill. The prophet salallahu alaihi
wa sallam leaves the house,
picks up some sand,
throws it in the air, says
Right?
We have blocked before their eyes behind them.
They cannot see today.
And so as he goes,
these people are now basically
put to sleep, put basically blinded. They cannot
see. And the prophet
leaves to go to the house of Abu
Bakr
And over here,
a person comes, and he's like, what are
you guys waiting for? They're like, oh, we're
waiting for that plan of ours. We're gonna
go kill Muhammad. He's like, what are you
talking about? Mohammed just left. I saw him
over there. Like, No. He can't be. We've
been here for this long, and that's not
possible.
He's like, it is possible, and I already
saw him. He's left already.
And you guys can even see the dust
in your hair.
So now the prophet salallahu alaihi wa sallam,
he goes to the house of Abu Bakr
radiallahu anhu.
When he goes,
his
family is over there,
and they basically start to prepare to go.
Look at look at the prophet
even before all of this happens, he went
to Abu Bakr alaihmu's house
in the midday time
when the sun is at its peak and
nobody's able
to nobody's walking outside. He goes the day
before in midday time to plan with the
Abu Bakr radiAllahu anhu. And look again, he's
using he's not just saying, he's going to
plan with Abu Bakr,
the time he should he could have been
just like, okay. Let me choose any time.
Let me just leave. We choose a specific
time. He goes when he goes, he tells
Abu Bakr, take everybody out of your house.
And Abu Bakr is like,
oh prophet of Allah, they're your family. They're
not gonna harm. And so then they stay.
And they plan the whole thing that, listen,
we're going to come. And now when the
prophet salallahu alaihi wa sallam goes at night
time, they're following the plan. They said that
rather than going through the front door out,
we're gonna go through a small door from
the back.
And instead of going Madina,
if Madina is this way, this is the
direction to Madina. We're not going to go
this way. We're actually going to go this
way. Why? Because if the Quran find out
that the prophet
is gone, what are they going to do?
They're gonna search teams to look for him
or no. So everybody is going to look
for the prophet salallahu alaihi wa sallam, which
way are they gonna go?
He knows the rest of the companions went
to Madinah. So where is the prophet gonna
go? Gonna go to Madinah. This is the
route to Madinah, so start looking this way.
So he knew that everybody would be going
this way. That's why he planned and went
the opposite way.
He said, we're gonna go this way. We're
gonna stay in Harithor
for 3
days. And after everything has settled down a
little bit, then we're gonna go.
Now, they planned a few things. So, subhanAllah,
look at all of these planning. Right? It
should tell us something about planning, not just
simply just saying, okay,
but you plan and then you do on
Allah
Now the prophet salallahu alaihi wa sallam, he
goes. He's he
when he goes to, to Abu Bakr radiAllahu
anhu, what do they plan? They plan that
who's gonna bring them food.
Asma radiAllahu anha is known as
the one with the 2 belts because the
the ladies used to wear a long gown
and they used to tie it up with
a belt. When she was tying up the
belt, she didn't have anything to tie it
up with. She took her belt, she ripped
it in half and from that day she
put for one one of them she tied
her waist and the other she tied the
food. From that day the prophet
called her
This is the daughter of Abu Bakr radiAllahu
anhu. So, now
this is plan, who's going to bring the
food?
The son of Abu Bakr radiAllahu anhu will
come every day and investigate what's going on
in Makkah to bring the information back so
they could plan accordingly.
The servant
of Abu Bakr
he will go every day and he will
walk on the footsteps
of the herd and the footsteps of Abu
Bakr
and the prophet with the herd so that
this way people because it's sand, the footsteps
are there, so people will know that 2
people are walking this way. But if you
take a whole bunch of sheep and goats
over it, people will think that, oh, it
was just a shepherd. He walked by this
way.
Look at every single detail,
how it is planned.
It was not just haphazardly.
Just get up, just begin.
No. It's planned, every single thing. And so
they go like this. They're staying in Harihira.
And now
the food is coming to them.
Son of Abu Bakr radiAllahu anhu is going
and giving them information on a daily basis
of what's because he's going there at night
time and spending the night with them. In
day time, he's with the Quraysh hearing what
they're planning,
hearing where people are going to look for
them, all of that.
And, he's
walking around with his sheep and goats so
nobody knows, and they are staying in Hari
in in the Hari Sur.
Now at this point is where Tawakkul comes.
Abu Bakr radiAllahu anhu says
that
we were so surrounded by the enemies that
had we looked up, we see the feet
of the people of the enemy looking for
us because the Quraysh,
they put 100
camel bounty on the head of the prophet
salallahu alaihi wa sallam and another 100 on
the bounty on the head of Abu Bakr
radiAllahu anhu. So everybody was looking left and
right for this. This is easy money.
At that point, the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam
shows what Abu Bakr radiallahu anhu is like,
oh prophet of Allah, if they were to
just look down,
they will see that we are right here.
And that's where Allah the prophet sallallahu alaihi
wasallam's tawakkul comes in. And he's like, Abu
Bakr, what do you think of 2 whose
third one is Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala?
Don't worry, Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is with
us.
That's when you have tawakkul.
You do every single thing till now. Why
didn't the prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam say
this from the beginning? Oh, Abu Bakr, we're
gonna do for we're gonna go for Hijra
and don't worry about anything because Allah will
be with us the whole way.
No.
It was planned. Every single thing. From what
time he's gonna leave? Before leaving, going to
the house of Abu Bakr, who's going to
bring in food? Who's going to, you know,
walk over the footsteps, which direction they're going
to take, what time they're going to leave,
make sure that nobody finds out.
All of this thing was planned. But then
when time comes to rely on Allah,
that's when they relied on Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala. And so you see this balance
in the life of the prophet salallahu alaihi
wa sallam and the hijrah, mashallah, it's a
very long journey. We will continue on inshallah.
Next week, we will continue with the journey
of hijrah and we will pick out a
lot more lessons.
But may Allah
allow us to really understand the deen as
it's supposed to be understood and allow us
to follow the footsteps of the prophet Allahu
alayhi wasallam.
