Yasir Khan – Weekly Seerah Session Early Establishments In Madinah 24 July 2024
AI: Summary ©
The importance of learning from the Prophet's teachings is emphasized, including the importance of memorizing hadiths and learning from the generation of the Prophet's predecessors. The need for leaders to be strong in the world is also emphasized, as is the importance of learning from the same source and establishing deeds. The importance of deeds for deeds and the need for people to be strong in the world is also emphasized. The importance of learning and empowering people is emphasized, as well as the need for people to be strong in their own lives.

We've reached,
this section of the Seerah of the Prophet
where the Prophet
migrated to Madinah.
And, you know, it's very important for us
to keep up with the Seerah of the
Prophet
because especially today, we see Muslims being oppressed
and we see Islamophobia and we see the
rights being taken away and we see all
of these things. But one thing you see
is that when you look at the Seerah
of the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam, it was
exactly this.
But now the question is, what do we
do? And the best thing to do is
what the Prophet did.
And that is number 1 to stay informed
and, you know, to know
what to do at what time to do
and how to do and really the seerah
of the prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam is
something that teaches us all of that. So
it's something that we should,
definitely keep in mind and ask Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala to allow us, to benefit from.
So looking at the seerah of the prophet
sallallahu alaihi wasallam, the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam
now migrates to Madinah.
And we realized that it was almost an
order. It became like fard for every single
person to migrate.
Why? Because of the oppression.
Why? Because of the stress that the Muslims
had to go through not being able to
practice their deen. And that's why being able
to practice your deen freely
is so important
that it requires you to actually change your
location if you're not able to do so
and the prophet salallahu alaihi wa sallam that's
why he required the Muslims to go to
Madinah.
Now did all the Muslims go? Well, we
could say majority of the Muslims went. However,
there were still a few of them left
back in Makkah and the reason for that
is because they have not revealed, they have
not expressed, they have not shown other people
their Islam. They were still their Islam was
still private. So if they showed it to
people, there would of course be, you know,
torture, there would be oppression, there would be
all of that. And as we've discussed before,
that there was hikmah and keeping it private
because you do not want to be afflicted
with more than what you can handle and
unnecessary
problems.
I want to highlight a few different things,
stories from the very beginning days of Madinah.
And one of them is the story of
the love of the Ansar for the prophet
sallallahu alaihi wa sallam, and the second one
is the story of,
building the Masjid in the houses of the
Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam, and the third
is the story of Adhan. So InshaAllah, these
three stories we will talk about. As we
said,
you see, SubhanAllah,
Musa'ab Numa radiAllahu anhu went to Madinah, and
he started to talk to people about Islam,
about the Quran, reciting the Quran to them,
about the Prophet
And even though
they never seen the Prophet salallahu alaihi wa
sallam in person, they were in love with
him.
They loved the Prophet salallahu alaihi wa sallam.
They were longing for him. They wanted to
see him.
Just because of the mother doing taileem
and the mother teaching the child.
I mean, this is a point of reflection,
and we have to stop at this point.
Which one of our child
has ever longed for the prophet
Has ever mentioned that this is the sunnah,
which means that it is the most important
thing
in our life because this is the way
of the Prophet
Right? And so it goes back
to the education
of the children. It goes back to this
young childhood
and that starts from the house. That starts
from the mother. And so we see that
she puts such a love
of the Prophet
in the heart of Anas ibn Malik. And
Anas ibn Malik was so young, the Prophet
used to call him
like a small
He was a young little child. When the
Prophet
passed away,
was still in his teens.
And everybody, when they went forward to see
the Prophet
they went presenting gifts, telling the prophet salallahu
alaihi wa sallam to stay in their house,
all of that, and Khumeysara diaallahu anha finds
herself in a situation where she has nothing
to present to the prophet salallahu alaihi wa
sallam. So what does she do? She takes
her little child and she presents him to
the Prophet SubhanAllah Alaihi Wasallam and say, O
Prophet of Allah,
make him your servant.
Make him your servant and SubhanAllah.
What a smart lady.
What a smart lady.
She gave him to the Prophet salallahu alaihi
wa sallam to make him a servant,
but Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala raised the status
of Alassib Nimalik radiAllahu anhu such that people
used to travel from all over the world
to go and see him.
Allah
gave him such barakah in his life
that he had an abundant people said more
than 50 grandchildren,
abundant amount of children,
abundant amount of wealth, and Allah
prolonged his life to the extent that he
lived for a long period of time. Because
Allah the prophet
made du'a for his wealth, for his progeny
and for his umar, for his age. And
so, you see the mother made the decision
that I'm going to put my child in
the service
of the Prophet salallahu alaihi wa sallam. And
Allah
showed us that that child was not wasted.
And so there's a lesson in this for
us as well. When we look that when
we are putting our children
to learn the deen,
to get in the service of the deen,
we should not think that our children are
going to waste. We should not think that
Allah
will starve them. That Allah
will neglect them, will leave them. In fact,
we see that Allah has elevated.
Allah has honored. Allah has given respect to
Anas ibn Malik radiAllahu anhu for that. So
she goes to the Prophet
saying, O Prophet of Allah, I want him
to be in your service because I have
nothing else to give to you. And Anas
ibn Malik radiAllahu anhu,
he becomes in the care
of the Prophet salallahu alaihi wa sallam. He's
learning everything from him in his young childhood,
and when he passed the Prophet salallahu alaihi
wa sallam passes away,
Anas ibn Malik
who is still in his young teenage years,
and he becomes one of the greatest scholars.
Today, you pick up a book of hadith,
and you will see Anas ibn Malik who
said this, he said this. He's one of
the most prominent narrators of hadith.
And you see, subhanAllah, what's beautiful is our
pious predecessors,
our scholars in the Islamic Ummah, they followed
in the footsteps
of
They followed in the footsteps of Anas ibn
Malik radiAllahu Anhu which was to dedicate their
children at a very young age to Islam.
And we see continuously
the sunnah of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
That Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala will honor
whoever
dedicates themselves to Deen.
Whoever leaves something for Allah, Allah will give
him something better than that. So when they
leave their children to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala,
stop chasing after this world. All of that,
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala gives them better than
what somebody can achieve through the honor of
this world.
Just 2 3 days ago, we started our
classes and our,
madrasa again and we started a book by
the name of Tariq Bu Tariq. It's one
of the most famous books written almost 900
years ago by Hafid al Mundiri. Takiyyuddin Abdul
Adhim,
Al Mundiri.
So we, in the beginning of every book,
we go on to study the of the
book, to study about the author of the
book and study all of that.
When I would just quickly reading some of
the Tarjumah, some of the biography
of Hafid al Mundri Rahimahullah
and
I was it was talking about how
he memorized the Quran
because the father used to sit with him
and make him memorize and then make him
memorize hadith and then after that,
you know, it says, Sami Amin had the
sheikh hadith was Sami Amin who hadith and
to start to talk about how he went
to this scholar and this scholar, studied with
him and studied with him, equivalent to today
saying that he went to this madras and
studied over here and studied over here. And
as we are studying,
myself and the students are all thinking like,
subhanallah, this guy dedicated his whole entire life
to deen. He's studying and studying and studying,
and he's accomplished so much. How many years
has he studied? And then it comes that,
you know,
and his father passed away while he was
very young. So he did all of these
things while his father was still young. So
I'm like, he did all he memorized the
Quran, he memorized this hadith, he went to
this scholar and learned fiqh and learned went
to this scholar and learned hadith and all
of that. And what was the age?
11
years
old. 11 years old. And so yesterday, I
was giving a talk in epic and I
mentioned this point that look, we are
memorizing
and we mashallah in the Dallas community have
created a culture of Islamic education,
of memorizing the Quran and all of that.
But you know, we should look at our
pious predecessors and realize
that actually there's a higher level to aim
for.
And yeah, we are aiming that our children
become hafad at the age of 11, but
look and learn from Hafid al Muziri,
learn from Imam al Bukhari,
learn from Imam al Shafi,
learn from Sultan Mohammed. At the age of
21,
he conquered
Constantinople.
At the age of 18, Imam Bukhari was
an authority of hadith.
At the age of 15, Imam Bukhari had
memorized the poetry of Jahiliya.
These are the scholars.
These are the people who dedicated because they
knew
that age, this whole concept of teenage and
this whole concept of, you know, reaching 18
and 21, this is a man made thing.
For us,
it's like as soon as we learn to
comprehend,
we dedicate ourselves to our deen.
And this is what we see from the
sunnah of
That she brought her child even though he
was 5, 6 years old. He was in
his 7, 8 years old, whatever. This youngest
age below 10 years old, and he goes
to the prophecy. He goes to the prophet
and
said, oh prophet of Allah, here you go.
Take him in your service.
Take him in your service.
And what does Allah show us? That Allah
elevated him.
So when Hafid al Mounlili father
dedicated to his child at a young age,
Allah showed us what? That he elevated him
to such an extent that people came from
all over the world to listen to Hafid
al Mundiri in the hadith book that we're
studying.
With more than 55100
hadith was what? Was having giving
a like this and people taking notes and
people writing it down and at the end,
it turns out to be a 4 5
volume book.
Allah honored him or not?
Allah honored
or not?
Imam al Bukhari His
father passed away at a young age. He
dedicated he had his widowed mom and at
a very young age he traveled to Basra,
to Kufa, to Makkah, to Damascus
with his widowed mom going and learning and
learning and learning and by the age of
15 he had most of the books of
vestiges Abdullah ibn Mubarak
all memorized.
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala honored him or not.
Today who do we know? We know Alis
Abdi Malik or no? We know Imam Bukhari
or no? We know Imam al Shafi' or
no?
These are the people we know because this
is a proof
of the promise of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
that Allah will honor those people who dedicate
themselves to this deen.
So this is one of those lessons that
we learned from the very young age, from
the very
beginning stages of Madinah.
That when Khumay Sa radiAllahu anha, we're learning
this about our children
and Some of the children sitting over here,
you know, it's something for us to aim
for.
Not just to become a half of and
need salah.
That standard has already been reached.
ICI and Tanzeel and all of them. They've
done a great job at that. Right? But
now, what is the next bar?
What is the next standard
that we over here are now having 11
12 year old kids who are memorizing
and memorizing text
of books, memorizing texts of hadith, memorizing texts
of fiqh,
that is the next standard.
And the next standard is to go on
and have our children
such that they become leaders just like Arasim
Nimalik radiAllahu who became, Just like Ibn Abbas
radiAllahu who became. Ibn Abbas radiAllahu
majority of the scholars say that the the
prophet said, when he passed away, Ibn Abbas
radiAllahu who was about 10 years old.
And who does he become after the prophet
sallallahu alaihi wa sallam passes away? Ibn Abbas
radiallahu anhu used to go to the doors
of each Sahaba and in the hot heat,
in the
in the scorching heat, he used to stand
outside and not even knock on the door.
People used to come out,
yeah. Ibn Amir Rasulillah, what are you doing?
He says, I'm here to learn this hadith
from you. He said, you're the cousin of
the prophet salallahu alaihi wa sallam. You could
have knocked. The weather is hot. You could
have done all of this. Why didn't you
do this? He said that, I came to
learn for from you. I have to be
respectable of the knowledge.
And as Ibn Abbas radiAllahu one who dedicated
himself to that, what happens to him? He
becomes
He becomes
He becomes the
of this Ummah and he becomes the ocean
of knowledge.
Umar radiAllahu anhu used to keep ibn Abbas
radiAllahu anhu in his very khasura.
He used to keep very specific people in
his
Among them were the people who Allah has
forgiven, the people who participated
in Badr.
And ibn Abbas radiAllahu one who used to
participate in this.
Those Sahaba, they're like, ibn Abbas is the
age of our children.
How is it that he is participating
in in in our meetings or he's in
the same caliber as us? One day, Umar
radiAllahu, he asked, he asked the sahaba, he
said that what is the tafsir of the
Surah, Surah ad Nasser? And
majority of the sahaba, they're like, well this
is talking about, you know, victory is going
to come our way and when victory comes,
this is gonna happen and this is gonna
happen everybody. Then he tells them, Abbas, he
says, what do you say about this? And
he said, this Surah is an indication that
the Prophet
will die soon.
Because this surah is talking about the mission
of the prophet salallahu alaihi wa sallam finishing
and if the mission of his finishes then
he has to return back to Allah Subhanahu
Wa Ta'ala. And Umar radiAllahu anhu is like
This is the correct tafsir of it.
Somebody who's 10 years old, somebody who's at
this age,
doesn't say I am the, you know, cousin
of the Prophet salallahu alaihi wa sallam, so
clear the path for me. Come and kiss
my hand, come and kiss my forehead,
Come and honor me because of my progeny
or because of my lineage or because of
my bloodline.
None of that, but he dedicates himself to
And
so the sunnah that we learn
from the Sahaba such like
and Ibn Abbas
and many more Sahaba is their dedication at
a very young age. So whether it is
children sitting over here learning,
whether you're at the age of 10 or
12 or 8 or whatever you are, know
that your goal and your aim is not
just to memorize the Quran, but to go
and become the strongest
in
and the strongest in world leadership.
When you look at the world leadership, you
have the example of Sultan Mohammed. Sultan Mohammed
is the conqueror
of Constantinople.
The prophet said,
said,
The Constantinople
will most definitely be conquered, and whichever army
conquers it will be the best of army,
and whoever is in that
whoever is the leader of that will be
the best of leaders. From the time of
Sahaba
from the time of Sahaba, they started to
aim for this honor, and that's why we
spoke about Abu Ubal al Sarid radiallahu anhu
in our last session.
The the the the host of the Prophet
Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam, where is he buried? He's
buried all the way in Istanbul. Why is
he buried in Istanbul? He went for Turkish
delights
or he went for the donors?
He didn't go for the Turkish delights or
for the kebabs. He went to go and
conquer. He went to go be in the
path of Allah, so that this of the
prophet salallahu alaihi wa sallam can be for
him. And he passed away over there, right
outside of right outside the the the walls
of Constantinople,
his grave is over there. Multiple Sahaba, their
graves are over there. The Prophet sallallahu alaihi
wa sallam's grandson, Hussain including
him, he went over there.
And so for from the time of the
Prophet
from his grandson and his most closest companions,
they've been trying to get this Padilla
and 100 year passes by, nobody gets it.
200 years pass by, nobody gets it. 300
year pass by, nobody gets it. 400 years
pass by, nobody gets it. After 800
years, a 21
year old kid,
we will compare it to a kid today.
21 year old today
does not even know what he's going to
do tomorrow.
Forget about having a 3 year plan or
a 5 year plan. A 21 year old
does not even know what's the purpose of
his life.
You have Sultan Mehmed. He's going and conquering
the leading empire of the world. Why? Because
he knew the importance.
He knew
the favela that the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam
spoke about.
And so
you see this young generation, this young blood,
all of them achieving something because they understood
the legacy that the Sahaba left back. They
understood the legacy of
The parents understood that. Remember,
behind every single one of these children was
not a school that you write a $5,000
check to and say, here, take care of
my child. Or school, here, take care of
my child. Or a Hibbs Academy, here, take
care of my child.
This is one of the misconceptions we have
in America that everything can be bought with
money including your child's achievement. Unfortunately, it's not
gonna be bought with money. It's going to
be bought, it's going to be earned through
your own dedication,
your own time.
And so, when the parents dedicated and subhanallah,
most of the time, it was usually one
parent. And Hafid al Muhlili
father passed away when he was 11. Imam
Bukhari is saying he passed away before he
was in teens. Imam Al Shafi, same thing.
He passed away when he was a baby.
All of these are people, one parent but
they dedicated to them and this is how
these people went on to become.
Why? Because they understood the mission of Islam.
They understood that
we are not just gonna sit around and
wait for things to fall in our laps.
We have to dedicate ourselves to it. We
have to work for it, and that's what
they did.
And so today,
we talk about raising the bar.
Let's look at the Sahaba,
let's look at the Sunnah, let's look at
them and let's see how they dedicated themselves.
We ask Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala to allow
us to recognize,
allow us to realize
how they did it. And so the prophet
salallahu alaihi wa sallam being in Madinah, this
is one of those things that we see.
You know, the companions doing and something that
we learn from. Besides this, the prophet salallahu
alaihi wa sallam, the most important thing that
he recognizes and that he addresses immediately is
a masjid.
And subhanAllah, it's important to recognize what is
a masjid.
Not just a place of salah, not just
a masjid is a masjid when it has
a bada established,
when it has ta'lim and ta'alum established,
when it has
khidma established.
These are the amal of a masjid.
This 4 amals of a masjid,
every masjid that has dawah,
that has
that
has and
that has khidma.
Every masjid that has where people are calling
to Allah, people are talking about the greatness
of Allah.
People are learning something and teaching it. People
are praying and reciting Quran and doing dhikr,
and people are there to serve each other.
You will see that masjid as a beacon
of light.
As a beacon of light such that masjid
made the whole entire
It
made it a lighthouse.
And so you want a lighthouse in America?
Don't just go and establish a masjid. The
4 walls mean nothing.
What means something is you establishing that in
it. And so this is what was established.
The companions are going. They're doing the service
of the masjid themselves,
not just writing big big checks here. The
prophet salallahu alaihi wa sallam himself is carrying
bricks.
Ammar ibn Ma'i Asar radiAllahu alaihi wa sallam,
oh prophet of Allah, they're killing me. They're
giving me 2 2 bricks.
And the Sahaba are chanting the praise, the
praise of akhirah, the praise of the Prophet
salallahu alaihi wa sallam. And they're working, and
they're happy, and they're delighted.
And the Masjid is being built, and after
the Masjid is built, the Prophet salallahu alaihi
wa sallam currently only has 2 wives, Aisha
radiAllahu anha and Sauda radiAllahu anha. So he
builds 2 chambers for them, 2 small rooms,
2 small houses where they are staying.
Right? And so this is how it is.
Now, subhanAllah,
one last thing that I will end with
is you see the fiqr of deen.
The fiqr and concern of deen is what
we need to think about and that is
when the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam said,
now that we have a masjid,
how do we call people
to the salah?
And some companions were like, we should blow
in the horn
and some Everybody's coming up with, you know,
different different,
opinions, a bell and this thing and that
thing, all of these. And Sahaba are thinking
nobody's gonna 1 Sahabi goes
and he assume Well, all of the Sahaba
go but they have concern. But now based
on the level of concern, Allah will open
up on you.
Based on your level of concern, Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala will open up the solution onto
you.
And so he, the Sahabi,
his name is Abdullah bin Zayed. He has
so much concern
that what can we do to call the
people to Islam, to call the people to
the masjid? And he is thinking and he's
thinking and finally he has a dream.
In his dream, he goes and he's buying
something from a person, selling a horn and
selling a bell. He's like, what are you
trying to buy? What are you buying this
for? He's like, We're buying this so we
can call people to Islam. He said, This
is not what you want. What you want
is this
to go and call people toward
Allah by saying,
go on with the full adhan. This is
how you want to call people to adhan.
And so, Abdullah bin Zayed, he runs to
the prophet and
he tells the prophet
Abdullah bin Zayed thought that the prophet sallallahu
alaihi wasallam will appoint him to make the
adhan, but subhanAllah,
Allah has his hikmah. The prophet sallallahu alaihi
wasallam tells them, go and teach
Bilal radiAllahu anhu he will make the adhan
and Bilal radiAllahu anhu goes to make the
adhan and today what do we see? When
Bilal radiAllahu anhu was being dragged
and he was saying,
He was then elevated to the Kaaba and
saying, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar.
So when you are forced and put in
the deer and put in the stress
for the sake of deen,
that stress, that deer will be pick you
up and put you on the elevation
that everybody will hope to attain,
Everybody will hope to get.
And so, Abdullah bin Zayed ibn Abdul Rabi,
he gets the reward
for coming up, for having the concern, for
being inspired
with the dream,
and the prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam approving
it. Therefore, it became part of our deen
because it became part of our deen not
specifically because of the dream but because of
the approval of the prophet sallallahu alaihi wa
sallam.
And so we see the importance of that.
And another thing to keep in mind is
after Abdullah bin Zayed, he informs the prophet
of Allah alaihi wa sallam who's coming next,
who's running to the prophet of Allah alaihi
wa sallam tying up his his shawl and,
and he's coming to the prophet of Allah.
Oh, prophet
of Allah. I saw and I know what
the, you know, the call to Islam, to
Adhan and to to to the Musalla, to
Salah should be. It was Umar radiAllahu anhu.
But the prophet said,
Abdullah bin Zayed already beat you to it.
He already beat you to it. So we
realize
that when it comes to deen, Allah will
open onto you when you have the concern,
when you have the fiqhqr for it.
And trust me, it doesn't matter what your
status and how it is, but Allah will
open up to the person who has the
most concern, the most fiqhqr. And know that
when you are being put down,
when you are down there
struggling,
Allah will use that struggle, Allah will use
all of that to strengthen you, to elevate
you, to pick you up one day that
we see in Bilal radiAllahu one whose age.
So we ask Allah
to allow us to learn, to allow us
to strengthen us that we commit
for ourselves
and for our children.
The way Sahaba committed themselves and their children
to deen. You see a Sahabi,
a Sahabiya,
taking her child at a young age to
the prophet
You're seeing another Sahabi being dragged and saying,
and Allah elevating him, and you see another
Sahabi who's having so much concern about a
matter that Allah shows to him in his
dream.
This is what we see. We see
a female.
We see the concern for the children.
We also see the concern, just the fiqh.
What physically did he do? Physically, what did
Abdullah bin Zayed do?
It wasn't anything physical. It was a concern.
It was the fiqh.
But then also we see the physical as
well. That is what Bilal radiAllahu anhu did.
So the reward
both of them are getting.
May Allah
allow us to understand, allow us to recognize
the beauty of our deen, allow us to
bring it into our life, allow us to
learn from it and raise through it.
