Alhamdulillah,
it's a blessing of Allah
to allow us to be in such a
religion
that
dictates to us what we need to do
throughout the year. Allah
does not just leave us
and say, here,
just live, figure it out yourself.
Rather, everything
is planned out for us.
Once I was giving a lecture in one
of the universities,
and
it was before Ramadan and we were speaking
about that.
And one of the non Muslims,
they were very shocked
to say that, wow,
you guys have a whole system of fasting,
of ibadah, of gaining your spirituality.
Whereas the people who don't have that,
we have to figure it out ourselves.
She was like, a few
weeks ago,
I decided to start fasting on my own
because I realized that I needed some spiritual
boost.
So I told myself that I'm not gonna
eat this and I'm not gonna eat that
and I'm gonna do this action and I'm
gonna do that action.
So people out there who are not blessed
with this blessing,
they're out there trying to find out on
their own
what can they do to feel this inner
peace?
What can they do to get the boost,
the spiritual
boost?
They're all there looking for something.
Whereas for us, Alhamdulillah,
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala has planned it for
us, and not just planned it to where
every single day of the year is the
same. Every single month is the same.
Rather, there are days that are better than
other days. Rather, there are seasons
that come on to us and it's seasons
for us to become more alert.
Some of you who may be into shopping
know that there are seasons for shopping when
there are deals.
For example,
you have
Christmas time,
end of the year time, You have Cyber
Monday. You have Black Friday. You have these
seasons where everybody will stay up the whole
entire night, where everybody will do the research
beforehand
because they know that on that day, they
can save some money.
On that day, they can maximize
on what they are going to put forward.
And so we need to start thinking like
that when it comes to our deen. Because
our deen also has these days
that Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala puts forward for
us
that we can maximize,
that we can get more than any other
days.
And Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala has blessed us
to come into the 10 most
important
days of the year. I will repeat that.
The 10 most important
days of the year have started.
The 10 days of Dhul Hijjah. Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala takes an oath. When he says,
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala tells us in the
Quran, he takes an oath and majority of
the scholars are of consensus.
That when he says,
these are the 10 days of the.
Scholars tell us
that these 10 days of the
are far more better than even the 10
days of Ramadan.
And when the reason why I bring this
is because when Ramadan is coming, everybody is
preparing, everybody is planning, everybody is getting ready
to see what am I going to do.
Some people even take some days off of
work.
Some people get ready to spend their wealth.
Some people get ready to stand up for
tahajjud.
Some people will get ready to spend on
the poor. Some people will get ready to
finish a Quran. And they will set all
of these different,
you know, set of goals for themselves. And
when it comes to these 10 days, unfortunately,
they come upon us and they leave without
us benefiting from them.
If we are invited
to a room filled with gold and diamond
and $100 bills,
and now you don't realize that this this
room is filled with this and you're allowed
to go and take whatever you want from
this room,
who are you going to blame at the
end of the day?
There's no one to blame but yourself because
you've been told that this room is filled.
Go take whatever you want from this.
These 10 days
are the days in which the good deeds
are the most beloved to Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala.
And so today I want to speak about
2 things.
What makes these 10 days very special?
And number 2, what can we do
to maximize on these 10 days?
These 10 days, as many of you have
known,
are the days people are going and traveling
to perform Hajj.
And what is Hajj?
To go and commemorate
those actions of tawhid.
The actions of Ikhlas.
The action of sincerity.
Of the oneness of Allah. Of persistence.
Of resilience.
Of Ibrahim alaihis salam and his family.
Today,
we see that people are traveling
not just that they go around the Kaaba,
not just that they go between Safa and
Marwa,
but that they remember
in which type of situation
all of these things came to being.
And that is what we need to understand
today that even though we are not going
to Hajj. And may Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
give all of us the ability to go
to his house and perform the hajj. But
even if we are not going, sitting here
to sitting here today,
let's all remember
the legacy of Ibrahim alaihis salam.
Let's all remember
what made him special to where Allah is
mentioning him in the Quran more than 70
times.
Where Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is making him
the role model for the prophet sallallahu alaihi
wa sallam.
As we know the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam
is the best of all mankind.
But Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala in the Quran,
he tells him to look up to Ibrahim
alaihi wasallam.
What
made Ibrahim alaihis salam to this level?
That Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
has made him the most beloved person.
Yes, we can say that the most beloved
person in terms of quality is the prophet
salallahu alaihi wasallam. But when you look at
quantity,
Ibrahim alaihi wasallam is more beloved.
Because he's not just taken
and beloved by the Muslims, but he's beloved
by the Christians. He's beloved by the Jews.
And you can see that all the 3
major religions that are there, they all stem
and they're called the Abrahamic religions.
Why? Because all of them want to associate
with him. What did Ibrahim alaihis salam do
that made him that made him get such
a love? That Allah is mentioning him in
the Quran.
Telling
the prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam to take
him as a role model. And putting the
love of Ibrahim
alaihi salam in all of the mankind's
hearts.
What did he do? And what can we
do to follow in the footsteps of Ibrahim
alaihis salam?
Ibrahim alaihis salam was a young man and
this is why we need to understand even
the young ones.
Don't think you're too young. He was 13
years old when he started to connect with
Allah. When he started to talk to Allah.
When he started to search for the truth.
When he started
to recognize the oneness of Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala.
And once it came to his heart, he
wouldn't just sit down and rest. But he
would start with his family, go to his
father,
go to his tribe, go to every single
person to go and call them to the
oneness of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.
Not call them in a way where he
would go and be harsh and be stubborn,
but in a nice way. Even when the
people are harsh to him, he is kindly
telling them to giving them questions that how
are you worshiping something that will not benefit
you or harm you?
How are you worshiping something that cannot talk,
that cannot see, that cannot hear?
These type of questions to let them think
about the oneness of Allah
And from there, we know that everybody stood
against Ibrahim alaihis salam. The whole the whole
tribe, the whole comb, including the king, giving
the order to go build the biggest fire,
to throw him into that. But subhanAllah, what
do we learn? Even if the whole mankind
is against you. But if Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala is with you, he's thrown into the
fire and he said that those were the
best days of his life.
And we learn in this also the situation
that today we see our brothers and, sisters
and Gaza might be isolated.
But don't ever think that they're alone.
They might be isolated by the people.
People might not have enough strength and faith
to stand up for them.
But Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is there with
them.
We may see that nobody was with Ibrahim
alaihi salam but Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala was
with him. Ibrahim alaihis salam was the 1st
person
to do hijrah, to migrate for the sake
of his deen.
To migrate, to leave his family.
When his father is like, I will do
this to you and this to you. What
did he say?
He doesn't go back in rebuttal. He just
says, Salamun 'alaik. I
will make istighfar for you. I will ask
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala to forgive you. And
so you see the relationship
of Ibrahim alaihis salam, this young boy, 13
years old. Even though his father is kicking
him out. Even though his father is participating
in building the fire that will burn him.
His attitude towards his father is what?
You Abati. You Abati.
Continuously when he's mentioned You Abati. You Abati.
And subhanAllah we see this You Abati being
repeated
when Ibrahim alaihis salam takes his son, Ismael
alaihis salam and says that today I have
seen in my dream to slaughter you. His
son says,
Do we see that
over there?
So sometimes we see that our children,
we don't see them obedient.
We don't see their character. We don't see
that. We have to reflect over what was
our character,
what was our behavior with our parents.
And this is for the youngsters as well.
If you want your progeny to be listening
to you, to be humble, to be respectful,
to be honoring,
this is your time to display
that honor, that respect,
that love to your parents. And when you
do that, Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala will make
your children give it to you as well.
As Ibrahim alaihi salaam go, his whole life
is filled with test.
And one is definitely not enough for us
to go through the test of Ibrahim alaihis
salam. But the simple thing we will say
is that throughout his test, and every single
one of his test, whether that was the
test of him be him being tested with
his family, or him being personally tested.
What happened? He showed that he passed.
He showed that his connection with Allah was
greater. And that's why when we come to
kibirat camp, we say, Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar
Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar. We are proclaiming the
greatness of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala to know
that Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is the greatest.
So today,
we recognize
that Ibrahim alaihis salam's Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar
was not the mere takbir of the tongue
but it was also the takbir of the
heart. It was also the takbir in his
action. That when he is faced between his
family
and he's faced between
his faith and Allah. He says, Allahu Akbar,
and he left his family. When he's faced
between his town, and his hometown,
and to migrate for the sake of Allah.
He says, Allahu Akbar. When he's tested by
the king, when his wife is taken, he's
saying, Allahu Akbar. When he's tested, when he
is given an order to go and take
your son and your wife to
to go to a to a valley that
has no vegetation,
no water, no drink, nothing like that. At
that time he says, Allahu Akbar. When he's
tested with going and slaughtering
his son, he says, Allahu Akbar. When he's
tested with being at the age of 80
to go and circumcise himself, he says, Allahu
Akbar.
Today, the question I put forward to everybody
over here is that, yes, you say Allahu
Akbar through your tongue. But where is the
Allahu Akbar in your actions?
Where is it that you say that Allah
means more to me than what my logic
tells me? What my comfort tells me? What
my world tells me? What the trends tell
tells me? Because Ibrahim alaihis salam And this
is for the youngster ones especially.
He went against the trends. He went against
what was the common people talking about. What
was the special thing to do at that
time? He went against all of that and
said, Allahu Akbar,
even if he stands alone, he would rather
be thrown into the fire than to follow
the trends of
To follow the trends of of of something
that is not true. Of something that you
cannot stand for.
This is the legacy of Ibrahim Alaihi Salam.
This is why we remember him today.
This is why
people are going to commemorate his men the
the actions that he did. Whether it was
and whether it was the actions of Hajar
alaihis salaam of between.
All of that today, we see the miracles
of those things today,
where Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala blessed him with
zamsum
Until today,
we are benefiting from that. 1,000,000,000 of people
are drinking.
This was all from the blessings of Ibrahim
alaihis salam.
The way Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala has blessed
them
is something that we can talk forever and
forever.
But these are the 10 days that highlights
the importance of the legacy of Ibrahim Alaihi
Salam. And today we have to ask ourselves
the question,
what is the legacy that I am leaving
behind?
If I was to die today,
what actions am I leaving that Allah can
be proud of?
What actions am I leaving that I can
be remembered by?
These are the questions we have to ask
ourselves today.
And coming to these 10 days,
the most important days of the year.
Some scholars will even say
that even the days and the nights of
these 10 days are better than the days
of the nights of Ramadan as well.
These are the days that scholars say all
the 5 pillars of Islam come into life.
No other days besides these 10 days do
all the 5 pillars come into life. People
are fasting.
People are giving sadaqa,
charity.
People are praying. People are proclaiming.
These are the days of tahili.
The days of tahmeel. The days of takbir.
Unfortunately, we don't have it amongst our community.
But this was a common practice amongst the
sahaba. To go out to the market place
and remind each other with the tahleel and
takbir and tahmeel.
To say, Allahu
Akbar Allahu Akbar.
To say,
To say
These are the 10 days. Let's fill them
with takbir.
Let's fill them with tahmeed.
Let's fill them with tahleel of Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala.
Every deed
is so beloved to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
that you do not want to go through
a single day. You do not want to
go through a single moment in these 10
days, except that you are getting closer to
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. We need to plan
it out. We need to think that what
can I do to get the maximum reward?
And in our religion, there is. Yes. You
can just start to do things randomly,
or you could do it according
to how you wanna get the maximum result.
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and the prophet shalallahu
alaihi wa sallam doesn't tell us any specific
thing to do. But we need to diversify
our portfolio.
Diversify what we need to do in terms
of action. And don't just settle with anything,
but choose those things that will give you
the maximum reward. We know that
this concept, that when once the prophet
was leaving his house, and his wife was
sitting down and doing zikr. And he left
and he was out for hours and he
comes back home and she's still sitting in
the same position doing the
and the prophet
says, should I not teach
you some
some words that will give you more reward
than all the that you have done? And
he says, yes. She says, yes, oh prophet
of Allah. Tell me. And that's when she
he teaches
her
This is an example to show
that even within our deen, some days are
better.
Some actions are better. It just gives us
more. So when we look at the whole
year,
these are the 10 best days.
Now let's look at the deeds that we
can do to get the ultimate reward. And
the first thing we will start off with
is salah in the masjid.
Salah in the masjid.
Salah in the masjid is giving you 25
to 27 times more reward.
If your coincides
with the of the imam, your sins are
forgiven.
You are coming with the intention that you're
going to be learning something.
Allah will give you the reward of accepted
Hajj.
With every footstep that you're taking to come
to the masjid, Allah is removing a sin
and elevating your status.
You are coming to be in the environment
of zikr, the environment of in of the
of the angels.
So every single salah. Do not miss a
single salah in these 10 days. If you
miss the fajr salah today, make a stafar
to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. Because you have
already missed one of the 50
greatest reward that you could get. Praying
in the masjid
is as if you prayed for half of
the night
In praying
in the masjid, as you pray in the
other half of the night
Just by praying these 2 salah, Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala is giving you this reward. By
you memorizing
one ayah of the Quran,
Allah is giving you the reward
of 100 rakas of nafulsalah.
By you
learning one chapter of deen, even something as
small as how to make kayamwam.
Allah is giving you the reward of 1,000
rakas of nafulsalah.
These are all the bounties that we need
to benefit from. There are so many deeds
that we can do, but the minimum is
let's set our life in these 10 days
around the masjid.
Let's come. Let's fast.
Let's create a communal
way
of reminding each other that let's benefit from
these 10 days. All of us had set
a certain number of goals.
All of us have set a certain standard
in Ramadan.
Today is a good day to remind yourself.
It's a good day to ask yourself,
how have you been since Ramadan?
How was your gaze?
How was your talking? How was your listening?
How was all of that? Because the first
thing we need to recognize even before we
go to good deeds is all of the
bad deeds that we are doing. Because remember
one thing,
because these days are so great in the
eyes of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala,
and we have the benefit of all of
our good deeds being multiplied,
Remember that bad deeds are equally great in
these 10 days.
Just imagine if somebody was to do something
bad
in while
doing
tawaf. What would you say? You're doing this
in this place?
In the house of Allah?
In the Mataaf, you're doing something bad like
this? Well, remember these 10 days as well.
You're doing something bad like that? Where's your
gaze going? Where What is your tongue saying?
What is your ears hearing?
All of these things are something that we
need to become cognizant about, and do not
become negligent.
Do not think that, oh, let's just it's
just gonna be like regular. It's not regular.
These 10 days, stay away from every sin.
These 10 days, plan every single good deed.
These 10 days,
think and reflect and talk
about what are those deeds that you can
do that will maximize your reward. I had
a whole entire list, but unfortunately,
with the time we cannot go any further.
But the minimum we can do is this
much, the day of Arafah. That is the
most beloved day. The day of you fast,
your sins of the previous year, your sins
of the future year, they will all be
forgiven.
That is a day of du'a. That is
a day of connecting to Allah.
That is a day you wanna plan for.
If you have to take a day off,
even though it's gonna be Saturday, take it
off. If you have to do whatever you
have to do to come to the masjid,
remember this one last thing.
Used to say that, Ibn Abbas radiallahu anhu.
The mufasir of this ummah. The alim and
the scholar of this ummah. The cousin of
the prophet salallahu alaihi wa sallam. One of
the most important person to live amongst the
tabi'een.
He said, when these 10 days used to
come, he used to seclude himself, we used
to never see him, we used to think
that he's gone because these 10 days he
used to go into khalwah, these 10 days
he used to go into seclusion,
these 10 days he used to say that
these are for Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
I am disconnecting myself from everything and everyone.
I'm connecting myself to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.
May Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala allow us to
follow in the footsteps of the prophet sallallahu
alaihi wa sallam in the Sahaba.
All the brothers and sisters are requested to
come to the Ford in Ford, inshallah, to
make space for the people in the back.
