Alhamdulillah rabbil alameen, salallahu alayhi wa sallam, baraka
nabiyyina Muhammadin wa ala alihi wa sahbihi wa
sallam, tasliman kathira thumma ma ba'd.
We're still discussing together the book of al
-yaqeen wa al-tawakkul, the chapter on yaqeen,
certainty, tawakkul, and reliance on Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala from Riyad al-Saleheen.
Imam al-Nawawi, rahimahullah wa ta'ala, he
brings hadith number 82, hadith Umm al-Mu'mineen,
Umm Salama radiyaAllahu ta'ala anha, wa hiya
hindu bintu Abi Umayya radiyaAllahu anha, al-Makhzumiya,
qalat.
So the mother of the believers, Umm Salama,
she said the Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam,
she said, kana idha kharaja min baytihi, when
the Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallamu alayhi, he
leaves his house when he's leaving home, qal,
he used to say, bismillah, tabakkaltu ala Allah,
Allahumma inni a'udhu bika, an adhilla aw
udhal, aw azilla aw uzal, aw adhlima aw
udhlam, aw ajhala aw yujhala alayh.
This is a dua the Prophet salallahu alayhi
wa sallam used to say when he leaves
the house, and Umm Salama radiyaAllahu anha must
have memorized this dua from the Prophet salallahu
alayhi wa sallam because of what, because of
how often he repeated that.
So this is a dua when you leave
the house, and that reminds us as a
believer, subhanAllah, as Muslims, our life is purposeful
life, like you have an objective to everything.
Even when you do the most average things,
like what, like going into the bathroom, leaving
the bathroom, eating your food, putting your clothes
on, taking off your clothes, in your privacy,
every aspect of your life has already been
regulated by one dua or another.
Why is that?
To remind you that your life is not
an empty thing, it's purposeful.
If you follow the purpose of your life
according to the Quran, the Sunnah of the
Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam, wallah you'll find
peace and tranquility.
You'll find peace and tranquility because now you're
running by the manual of the Creator subhanAllah
ta'ala.
But if you don't, and you want to
live your life on your own accord, then
good luck.
You'll be left for yourself to fix your
life as you want it to be.
But here's a reminder for us that every
aspect of our life requires devotion to Allah
subhanAllah ta'ala.
And one of them is just when you
walk out of the house.
So what is this dua?
And this dua also has the aspect of
tawakkul, reliance on Allah azza wa jal.
And why would you want to put your
trust in Allah subhanAllah ta'ala when you
step out of the house?
Because this is also a moment of extreme
vulnerability.
When you leave your house, you leave your
safety.
So at home alhamdulillah, I'm safe.
It's my house, my doors are locked, the
spaces alhamdulillah I'm familiar with.
So you have that kind of sense of
safety in your own house.
The moment you step out of the house,
you cannot predict what could happen.
Anything could happen.
I don't know how many of you predicted
the accident that's happened out here, the 635
and the MacArthur Bridge.
Did you guys hear about the accident?
If you haven't heard about the accident, maybe
you heard the helicopter.
And the traffic was all the way, probably
a mile behind.
Even here in Irving, actually in the parkway.
So even here, Valley Ranch Parkway, the traffic
was all the way back there.
No one would predict an accident like this
to happen.
When an 18-wheeler just hits the underpass
and creates a big damage, structural damage over
there.
Stopping the entire highway.
Anything can happen, right?
So therefore, I really need to put my
trust in Allah.
And I put my tawakkul and reliance on
Allah azza wa jal.
And I ask Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
to enable me to do that.
That's why the dua is for you, asking
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala to protect you.
And guard you from whatever could happen when
you leave the house.
So here's a dua.
In a translation, the Prophet salallahu alayhi wa
sallam used to say, Bismillah, in the name
of Allah.
Tawakkaltu alallah.
Which is obviously, I put my trust in
Allah.
And that's where the hadith comes in for
the trust, for the reliance on Allah azza
wa jal.
Allahumma inni a'udhu bika an adhilla aw
udhal.
You ask Allah, O Allah, I seek refuge
in You from straying or being led astray.
Like, O Allah, I ask You to protect
me from me going astray or someone leads
me to go astray.
The second.
Qal aw azilla aw uzal.
O Allah, I seek refuge in You against
slipping or being caused to slip.
Like, I'm focusing on my goal.
Alhamdulillah, I'm heading forward.
My eyes are on the target.
And then you just slip.
Why?
Because somebody whispered something to you that made
you to go somewhere else.
Or you naturally kind of distract yourself and
you slip away from the path to Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala.
Qal aw azlima aw uzlam.
Or doing injustice or being done injustice.
Like, O Allah, I seek refuge in You
from me causing injustice towards somebody or against
somebody.
Or someone wrongs me.
I ask You to protect me from that.
Qal aw ajhala aw yujhala alay.
Or doing wrong or having wrong done to
me.
Al-jahala here basically like foolishness.
People kind of like taking advantage of you.
Or you're taking advantage of somebody else.
Doing something foolish.
That's what it means over here.
So to do something foolish or something foolish
being done against you.
Look at this beautiful dua, jama'ah.
Isn't that what we worry about when we
leave the house?
You worry about what, jama'ah?
You worry about, first of all, that you
don't have Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala in
control.
So you want to trust Allah in that.
And you worry about going astray or being
led astray.
You worry about slipping on you on the
path to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
Or doing something wrong against somebody.
Wronging someone or someone wrongs you.
All these things what really we worry when
we leave the house.
And here we've been asked when we leave
the house to ask Allah to protect us
against all these errors and mistakes and flaws
that could happen to us outside of our
homes.
And by the way, these things could happen
at home.
But the chances for this to happen outside
is greater.
Because you're dealing with strangers right now.
And sometimes you justify it to yourself.
So you be careful with that.
So this dua is teaching us again to
put our trust in Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala.
And seek protection with Him as long as
we're out there amongst the people.
May Allah protect us all.
Let's repeat this dua together three times insha
'Allah wa ta'ala.
May Allah protect us all.
Any questions?
Assalamu alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.
