Prophet, the Messenger of Allah, and upon his
family and companions, peace and blessings be upon
them, and many more.
How close is Jannah to you, people?
Have you ever asked yourself the question, how
close is Jannah to you?
Is it very close?
So what is stopping you from being in
Jannah right now?
What is it?
The most obvious, what is it, people?
Death, right?
Leaving this world.
But do you have a specific guarantee when
this is going to happen?
We don't.
That's in the hand of Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala.
So what's your job then?
Be prepared.
With what?
With your good deeds.
So how often should I always be engaged
in good deeds?
As often as possible.
So that if it happens, the doors of
Jannah are right there.
And this hadith, one of those good deeds
that brings people close to Jannah so quickly,
hadith number 89 in Riyad al-Saliheen from
the book of al-Masara' al-Mubadara ila
al-Khayrat, rushing or hastening into virtuous acts.
Qala wa'an Jabir radiyallahu ta'ala wa
rada, qala rajul al-Nabi salallahu alayhi wa
sallam, a man came to the Prophet salallahu
alayhi wa sallam during Uhud time, the Battle
of Uhud.
What happened as you know from the Battle
of Uhud, at the very beginning of the
battle, the Sahaba radiyallahu anhum, they had the
upper hand.
So they had the offense.
And they were advancing.
And they were winning against the non-believers.
And they start fleeing the battlefield.
So the Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam himself,
he came out of his camp, and he
went in the center of the battlefield, as
he was observing the people as they were
fleeing, and he was observing his fighters going
after them, and he was happy at the
results.
But then what happened?
The Sahaba, whom he left on the mountain,
the archers, they came down.
Although the instruction that was given to them
was clear and very, very obvious.
The Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam told them,
don't you step down from this mountain.
Never leave your post, no matter what the
situation is.
If you see us going over their shoulders
and winning, don't come down.
If you see them hitting us and killing
us, don't come down.
Stay where you are.
Simple instruction.
Unfortunately, some of the Sahaba, at some point
when they saw the battle was almost finishing
and ending, they started telling each other, what
are you waiting for?
Let's go and join.
Abdullah bin Jubair, their Amir, he said, what
did the Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam tell
us?
Don't move from your spot.
Stay in your stations.
Do not come down.
Unfortunately, they didn't listen to him.
The majority came down the mountain.
Khalid bin Waleed and Amr bin Aas, they
were hiding in the woods there or between
the trees.
When they saw that, they immediately brought their
horsemen and jumped and took the mountain, and
then the tide changed to the other way.
So during that time, it was during that
time when the Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam
was in the middle of the battlefield, happy
at the results, and then suddenly he hears
behind him, he hears the thunder, the sound
of the hoofs of the horses.
So he looks back, and he sees them
coming, and he realizes what's going to happen.
It's going to be a massacre.
So he immediately starts calling the people, like,
retreat, come to me.
Come towards me.
Obviously, back then they didn't have loudspeakers, they
didn't have this, so how many people listened
to that?
Eventually, as the Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam
starts marching and running towards the mountain, whoever
was close starts coming with the Prophet salallahu
alayhi wa sallam.
And then they had to fight, so that
they secure the retreat of the Prophet salallahu
alayhi wa sallam and the group that was
with him, salallahu alayhi wa sallam.
It was during that time, in the middle
of this chaos, and the Sahaba, as they
were seeing, the results, and eventually the death
of their loved ones around them, it was
at that time when a man came to
the Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam, He said,
Like, if I get killed right now, where
would I be?
The Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam said, You'd
be in Jannah.
So the man, he had in his hand
some dates.
He looked at them.
He said, to eat them, and then go
and fight, or just forget about them and
go and fight.
So he says, to wait until I'm done
with these dates, That's a long life there.
Like, to wait until I'm done with this,
that's going to be too long.
He threw them away and went to fight.
So this hadith, it shows the passion of
the Sahaba to be in Jannah.
And they want to do it at any
cost.
And if it pleases Allah, they're willing to
do that.
Even if it was to sacrifice their lives
for the sake of Allah, which they did.
They did in that moment.
He said, to eat these, that's too long,
man.
It's Jannah.
So rushing into good deeds.
And that's what we say.
If you think that what's between you and
Jannah is just to die, we don't know
when we're going to die, but it could
be in any moment, then I want to
consider maybe every single day is my departure
day.
Every single day is my departure day.
So, therefore, if you plan to do some
great good deed somewhere in the future, when
you have time for it, when you have
the energy for it, it has to be
now.
Not even today.
It has to be now.
Don't wait until that moment happens.
Create that moment.
Make sure that you're always engaging in good
deeds because that moment might not come in
the right time for you.
So you always be prepared.
May Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala give us
the ability to always do that which is
right and do that which is most pleasing
to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
We ask Allah that when our moment comes,
it be in a moment that is pleasing
to Him, Ya Rabb al-alameen.
Any questions?
Yes.
Is the Sahaba's name mentioned?
There are multiple generations.
Some say Abdullah ibn Haram and others, which
is the father of Jabir, actually, and others,
but Allah Allah.
Subhanaka Allahuma bihamdik.
Ashara la ila anta.
Astaghfiruka wa atubu ilaik.
Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh.
Do guys some good deeds right now, inshallah.
On the way out, shake hands with others.
