accursed Satan, the accursed Satan, Allah bring Bani
Israel as an example of oppressed people of
that time that Allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala helped
them and aid them against the greatest tyrant
of all time, probably Fir'aun the Pharaoh.
And he mentioned clearly in the Quran, he
said subhanahu wa'ta'ala, and he said and
we wanted to confer our favor, we want
to bestow our favors upon who?
He called them, those who have been oppressed
in the land.
That's how he called them subhanahu wa'ta'ala.
We want to make them leaders, we want
them inheritors of the earth and the land.
So that was their time then, when they
were the oppressed.
But time changes subhanallah.
And people forget about the blessings of Allah
azza wa jal.
But still, Allah is teaching us throughout these
stories that the victory will come to those
who are oppressed, sooner or later.
As it was mentioned, Haytham Nabi salallahu alayhi
wa sallam, how the Prophet salallahu alayhi wa
sallam encourages the believers to persevere in patience.
Remember when Rasulullah salallahu alayhi wa sallam came
to Ammar ibn Yasir and his wife Sumayya,
as they were being tortured in Mecca, after
the da'wah became public.
So those who showed their Islam, they were
taken to custody and they were to torture.
And Ammar and his wife Sumayya were tortured
by Abu Jahl.
And he was pressuring them, exposing them in
the sun, in the field.
And there the Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam
comes to them and he said, صبرًا آلَ
يَاسِرًا صَبْرًا آلَ يَاسِرًا إِنَّ مُعِيدَكُمُ الْجَنَّةِ Be
patient, family of Yasir, be patient, because I
promise you, your place, our appointment together will
be in Jannah.
I mean how could you do something like
this in a moment like that?
Unless you believe in that divine justice.
That this dunya is nothing compared to what
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is preparing in
the dunya and in the akhirah for the
believers.
So here the Prophet is telling them, صبرًا
be patient, Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala will
be there for you.
And Sumayya ended up becoming the first martyr
in the history of Islam.
The first martyr in the history of Islam
was a woman, يا جماعة.
And she remained steadfast, regardless how much Abu
Jahl tried to persuade her to say something
bad about the Prophet, to insult the Prophet
ﷺ, and she would refuse until she gave
up that life for the sake of Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala.
The Prophet ﷺ says in the hadith, ثلاثة
لا ترد دعوتهم, three people or three categories
of people, Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala will
answer their call.
He said He will answer their call.
He will not reject their calls or their
dua and their prayers.
Al-Imam al-Adl, a leader who's a
just, a just ruler, وَالصَّائِم حِينَ يُفْطِرُ, the
fasting until you break your fast.
قَالَ وَدَعْوَةُ الْمَظْلُومِ, and the dua and the
prayers of the oppressed.
The dua and the prayers of the oppressed.
يَرْفَعُهَا اللَّهُ فَوْقَ الْغَمَامِ, Allah will elevate it
above the clouds.
وَتُفْتَحُ لَهَا أَبْوَابُ السَّمَاءِ, and the gates of
heaven will be open for their prayers.
وَيَقُولُ الرَّبُّ أَنَّ اللَّهُ, the Lord subhanahu wa
ta'ala will say, وَعِزَّتِي لَأَنْصُرَنَّكِ, He said,
by my izzah, by my honor, I shall
aid you and give you victory, ولَوْ بَعْدَ
حِينَ, even if it was delayed.
رَوَّهُ التَّرْمَدِينَ, so Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
making it clear that those oppressed, they will
get that aid.
For some, maybe it's not their lifetime, subhanallah.
For some, it's not in their lifetime.
And we've seen what happened in Syria recently.
How after all these years, a generation was
wiped out almost from that area.
A huge population had to leave.
But then eventually, Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
bring the justice to those who have been
oppressed.
People freed from prisons and you see how
they revived their lives and those who were
displaced, they came back again to their homes.
Just celebrating that victory with these simple people.
Brothers and sisters, the believers, they always trust
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala's judgment.
And they put their reliance on Allah azza
wa jal at all time.
قَالَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى وَعَلَى اللَّهِ فَلْيَتَوَكَّ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ Those
who believe, those who have faith, should put
their trust and reliance on Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala.
Yeah, but it's not going the way I
want it to be.
I don't see it heading in the direction
I was hoping that it will go.
Do you trust Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala's
judgment?
If you do so, then just follow it.
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala knows what is
best.
Because Allah knows what is best for the
oppressed.
Brothers and sisters, a very famous story in
the seerah explains all this to us.
One of the stories, a very beautiful story
of al-Hudaybiyyah.
You know when the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa
sallam, he left Mecca to Medina.
He wanted to establish his own society there.
But the Meccans, you know, they did not
leave him alone.
So they had to fight.
There was Badr, the Battle of Badr, they
won that battle.
And then there was Uhud, which they lost
that battle.
And there was the very famous Al-Khandaq,
the Battle of the Trench.
Ten thousand of the Arabs, they came around
Medina to wipe the Muslims out.
And Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala gave them
victory against the oppressors.
So the following year, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi
wa sallam, to show good intentions, he takes
a few hundreds with him, sallallahu alayhi wa
sallam, a few hundreds, close to a thousand,
sixteen hundred, and they went to do Umrah.
Like they went to show that we're here
for peace.
We don't want to fight.
We need to show peace.
The Meccans, out of arrogance, refused to allow
them to get in.
They said we have to negotiate terms.
We don't want the Arabs to hear that,
you know, Muhammad and his followers, they forced
themselves onto Mecca, making the Meccans look bad.
And they were considered like the elite of
the Arab society at that time.
So the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam had
to negotiate terms with them.
It took a while through these negotiations.
Eventually, they agreed to certain terms.
The vast majority, if not all the sahaba,
the companions of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa
sallam, saw this to be a disadvantage for
them, and a moment of victory for them.
No one liked it.
The first thing they were told, you're not
doing Umrah this year.
You're going to go home, come back next
year.
The jama'at for us, alhamdulillah, it's a
two-hour flight probably for some people, right?
From Mecca to Madinah, just about a two
-hour flight perhaps, right?
Back then, it's a seven-day journey on
the back of a camel.
It's not going to be easy or simple.
And now they've been told, no, you're not
going to go in right now.
You go back and you come back next
year.
The sahaba said, Ya Rasulallah, he says, well,
okay, that's fine.
And they asked him, anyone who becomes Muslim,
you should send him back to us.
But if someone leaves Islam, we're not going
to send him back to you.
The Prophet said, sure, I accept that.
And they put some conditions on the Prophet.
All the sahaba, they felt this to be
unfair.
But the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam accepted
that.
And when they was about to sign up
on that agreement, Umar ibn al-Khattab radiallahu
anhu, he reports his own position from that
agreement.
Qala wathaba Umar radiallahu anhu wa radaa ila
Rasulillahi sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.
Umar radiallahu anhu wa radaa, he couldn't accept
that.
He couldn't even believe that the Prophet sallallahu
alayhi wa sallam, in a moment like this,
would accept such a disadvantage in the agreement.
So he came to the Prophet, qala, Ya
Rasulallah, alasta nabiyyallahi haqqa?
Aren't you the true messenger of God?
And the Prophet said, of course.
Qala alasna alal haqq wa hum alal batil?
We follow the truth.
They follow falsehood.
Is that true?
He goes, of course.
Qala bala.
Qala alaysa qatlana fil jannah wa qatlahum fil
nar?
Our martyrs in jannah and theirs in jahannam.
He said, of course.
Then he said to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi
wa sallam, qal, idhan alama nu'tid dhaniyyata fi
dinina?
Why are we accepting humiliation in our religion
right now?
Like we didn't accept it before.
Now that we have the upper hand, we
can accept this agreement?
And the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam says,
listen.
Qala ya Umar, inni abdullahi wa rasuluh.
I am the servant of God.
And I'm his messenger.
Which means, I don't do these things on
my own will.
Allah knows best.
But I'm following Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala's
commands for me.
Qal, walastu asih.
And I'm not going to disobey Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala.
Wala yudhaya'ani.
And Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is not
going to make me lose.
Qal, wala yansuhu wa nasiri.
He's going to give me aid and victory.
Umar radiyallahu anhu wa rada, he says, qal
ya Rasulullah, but you promised we're going to
do Umrah.
We're going to do ta'af around the
house.
He says, I did.
But did I say it's going to be
this year?
He said, no.
He said, okay.
You are going to come back and you're
going to make ta'af around the house.
Umar radiyallahu anhu didn't really understand that and
still did not accept the answers.
And he went to Abu Bakr as-Siddiq.
The Abu Bakr as-Siddiq, the second man
in the ummah.
And he did the exact same argument with
him.
Abu Bakr radiyallahu anhu wa rada, as-sadiq
al-mazduq.
The man who does not doubt his messenger
and his best friend ever.
He tells Umar towards the end of that
argument, he says, Umar, listen.
He says, qala alasta tu'mi anahu Rasulullah?
Don't you believe he's the messenger of Allah?
He said, of course I do.
qad idan ilzam gharza.
Just follow his way.
Like follow his plans.
Meaning, listen, if you trust him, he knows
what he's doing.
Umar radiyallahu anhu wa rada, he said, I've
never, qal, I was mentioned, qal, wallahi ma
shakaktu, mundu aslamtu illa yawma idh.
Like, I never had doubt in my iman,
in my Islam, except on that day.
Or something like that.
And that was dangerous statement from Umar radiyallahu
anhu wa rada.
It's a very serious statement.
Why is that?
Because he belongs to an Arab society.
Back then the Arab society were very dignified,
regardless how poor they looked or actually they
lived.
But they had their dignity, the most important
thing, and they would never allow anyone to
humiliate them like this.
So for him, when I was not Muslim,
I would never let anyone do this to
me.
And now that I'm a Muslim, following the
Prophet ﷺ, allowing these people to do this
to me, he had that moment.
Radiyallahu anhu wa rada.
Then Abu Bakr as-Siddiq reminded him, qal,
ala tasma ibn al-Khattab, don't you hear
yourself?
Like, did you hear yourself?
What's wrong with you?
He told him, qal, ta'awwadu billahi min
al-shaytaan, wa attahim ra'yak, sayi'udu
billahi min al-shaytaan al-rajeem, ask Allah
to protect you from the whispers of the
shaytaan, wa attahim ra'yak and doubt yourself,
not the Prophet ﷺ.
So Umar he said, qal, fa ja'altu
wa ta'awwadu billahi min al-shaytaan, I
keep saying, wa ta'awwadu billahi min al
-shaytaan al-rajeem, saying it over and over
again and just doing that.
qal, min maqalati tilk, from what I said
to the Prophet ﷺ, what I did on
that day, he says, I still worry about
it.
And even he went at some point when
he saw the victory, the true victory that
come later on, after that agreement.
Because you know guys, two years after that,
Mecca was in the hand of the Prophet
ﷺ.
Just two years.
Can you imagine?
Subhanallah, he kept giving da'wah thirteen years
in Mecca, they didn't respond to him.
He left Mecca to Medina, six years going
in battles back and forth.
And then two years later, he came back,
saw some victorious and taking the whole city.
And the whole Arabian Peninsula even, in two
years.
So Umar when he saw Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala brought that victory to the Ummah,
qal, so I came to the Prophet ﷺ
and I asked the Prophet ﷺ about what
I said.
Qala, so I told the Prophet ﷺ, you
know, kind of like, I can't believe I
said this, I did that.
Fa radiya Rasulullah ﷺ, Rasulullah ﷺ, he said
it's okay, like he accepted from him.
He said, it's alright.
He was, Fa radiya Rasulullah ﷺ wa abait.
He says, I could not forgive myself.
Like the Prophet ﷺ forgave me and I
couldn't forgive myself.
Fa qala, ya Umar, tarani radit wa ta
'ba.
Like, are you serious, ya Umar?
You see me, I'm being okay with you,
I forgive you.
And you're not going to accept that from
me?
To which Umar ﷺ he says, of course,
ya Rasulullah, I submit myself to that.
So Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala on the
way back from Mecca, after that agreement, He
revealed the entire Surah al-Fatih.
Inna fatahna laka fathan mubeena.
Indeed, we have granted you a clear triumph,
O Muhammad.
And Umar ﷺ he said, when I heard
this ayah, as we were coming back, we
didn't even do our Umrah yet.
We were coming back again to Medina, he
said, how is that considered victory?
How is that considered triumph?
Where is it exactly?
But the months that came after, later on
to two years, to bring the entire Mecca
in the hand of the Prophet ﷺ and
the believers, was the manifestation of that statement
in the Qur'an.
Brothers and sisters, Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
is indeed, He is the defender of the
oppressed, against the oppressors.
Just have to believe in that and wait
for the time to come.
وَقُولُوا قَوْلِي هَٰذَا وَاسْتَغْفِرُوا اللَّهَ الْعَظِيمُ وَلَيْهِ وَلَكُمْ
