Samina and McMahon and Rahim Al hamdu lillah wa salatu salam ala

00:00:07 --> 00:00:12

Rasulillah what URL he was Sotheby Omen, Lila.

00:00:14 --> 00:00:21

We have reached verse number 37. And our study of yes seen in a

00:00:21 --> 00:00:26

very brief reflections on some of the more outward meanings of these

00:00:26 --> 00:00:32

verses, and that there is no doubt that the meanings of the Quran are

00:00:32 --> 00:00:37

inexhaustible. They are like incessant waves of an ocean. The

00:00:37 --> 00:00:41

Koran keeps giving meanings in more meetings and more meetings in

00:00:41 --> 00:00:46

more meanings. And really, we are just scratching the surface of the

00:00:46 --> 00:00:51

most outward meanings of the book of ALLAH SubhanA wa Tada and

00:00:51 --> 00:00:57

basing these reflections upon some of the very traditional standard

00:00:57 --> 00:01:03

TIF CEOs that have a mobile, Hawaii, my my Razi and I might

00:01:03 --> 00:01:10

even Jeeva and that and others, and we're just trying to develop

00:01:10 --> 00:01:14

an understanding of the book of Allah to Allah, even if it be

00:01:14 --> 00:01:18

basic. And in this regard, we've reached verse number 37.

00:01:20 --> 00:01:24

Where a lot of adequate data says, well I have to normally do in a

00:01:24 --> 00:01:28

sort of home in the hara for either home, motherly moon.

00:01:29 --> 00:01:33

Okay, so that we should keep in mind here is that some of the

00:01:33 --> 00:01:38

previous verses that we were talking about, was that based upon

00:01:38 --> 00:01:43

the disbelievers who denied the messages, the message of the

00:01:43 --> 00:01:49

prophets or the apostles, and then that Allah subhanaw taala, then

00:01:49 --> 00:01:55

addressing them, and that proving to them that he can Tabata Kota

00:01:55 --> 00:01:59

Allah that resurrect them just as he can, that bring the earth back

00:01:59 --> 00:02:03

to life. So in reflecting upon the earth, and it coming back to life

00:02:03 --> 00:02:07

and the various seasons, and that's something that seems to

00:02:07 --> 00:02:10

come from something that something living that seems to come from

00:02:10 --> 00:02:15

something instead is a sign that a lot of other gods can also that

00:02:15 --> 00:02:20

resurrect human beings, he has the power to do so subhanho wa taala.

00:02:20 --> 00:02:21

And then

00:02:22 --> 00:02:29

that in yesterday's session that we talked about the allot of

00:02:29 --> 00:02:33

adequate data, that how he has created all of the pairs or all of

00:02:33 --> 00:02:40

the different types of things we see in creation. And in verse 37,

00:02:41 --> 00:02:46

is that a lot to Anna is going to speak about night and day. Two of

00:02:46 --> 00:02:51

the great signs of Allah subhana wa Tada. So he says, what I told

00:02:51 --> 00:02:55

him a later NUS local woman who Nohara for either homeless, the

00:02:55 --> 00:03:01

moon, the night is also assigned for them. We strip the day light

00:03:01 --> 00:03:07

from it, and behold, they are in darkness. So this speaks about

00:03:07 --> 00:03:14

that night. And that dark night they light and darkness, nighttime

00:03:14 --> 00:03:19

and daytime. And these are really two of the great blessings of

00:03:19 --> 00:03:23

Allah subhana wa Tada upon His creation, in addition to also

00:03:23 --> 00:03:26

being in science, and we'll talk a little bit more how their

00:03:26 --> 00:03:31

blessings but we have to not only that give thanks which we do for

00:03:31 --> 00:03:34

the blessing of night and for the blessing of day we also have to

00:03:34 --> 00:03:39

see them as signs, the power of Allah subhanho wa Taala and

00:03:39 --> 00:03:45

ultimately, he has that above the Divine unity. And so that the way

00:03:45 --> 00:03:50

that we experience night and day, it clearly indicates for the

00:03:50 --> 00:03:54

person of fitrah that is the person who is in touch with their

00:03:54 --> 00:03:59

natural disposition indicates to them the great power, the

00:03:59 --> 00:04:05

omnipotence of Allah subhanaw taala just as indicates his

00:04:05 --> 00:04:10

oneness. All opposites point to his oneness and night and day are

00:04:10 --> 00:04:14

an example of a pair that indicates his oneness upon who

00:04:14 --> 00:04:20

Madonna. So I had to know home. The night is also a sign for them,

00:04:20 --> 00:04:26

I don't know woman led the night is also a sign for them. And then

00:04:26 --> 00:04:32

Allah Allah says NUS Lahore, Minho Nihar, we strip the day light from

00:04:32 --> 00:04:33

it.

00:04:34 --> 00:04:40

And the word that is used here saleha that is local, is the same

00:04:40 --> 00:04:43

word that is used to use to skin an animal.

00:04:45 --> 00:04:48

And if you've ever seen an animal be skinned,

00:04:50 --> 00:04:55

there's certain places that they cut and then that they pull it off

00:04:55 --> 00:04:56

and when they pull it off,

00:04:57 --> 00:04:59

it actually comes off you have to do it very slowly.

00:05:00 --> 00:05:05

But it comes off very easy. So the skin separates fairly easy from

00:05:05 --> 00:05:11

the actual flesh itself. But then the smoothness of as you pull it

00:05:11 --> 00:05:16

off, and you're kind of slowly moving it, little by little,

00:05:16 --> 00:05:19

little by little, little by little, little by little, until

00:05:19 --> 00:05:22

you've separated. And then that if the animals been slaughtered, that

00:05:22 --> 00:05:26

you're going to clean it, and then chop it up, and then eventually

00:05:26 --> 00:05:30

cook it and eat it. But here that this is the same word use Sal is

00:05:30 --> 00:05:32

that skinning an animal

00:05:33 --> 00:05:37

in that, if you've ever seen that happen, is it that smoothness of

00:05:37 --> 00:05:42

how it's being pulled off, and slowly it's suffering until then

00:05:42 --> 00:05:47

it is separated, is it this is a beautiful metaphor of how we

00:05:47 --> 00:05:54

experience night and day. And that the scholars of tafsir say that

00:05:54 --> 00:06:00

awful hail Wilma, the foundation is one of darkness. And then the

00:06:00 --> 00:06:07

night the day rather, enters upon the night. And then but as that

00:06:07 --> 00:06:13

the sun sets, is that then it says if that the daytime is pulled off,

00:06:13 --> 00:06:18

like a skin from the night, and then eventually is that you have a

00:06:18 --> 00:06:23

lot more than you have darkness. And so that it's a really amazing

00:06:23 --> 00:06:27

oftentimes we are so cut off from nature, we don't really get to

00:06:27 --> 00:06:33

experience outdoors the way we really should. And so this is

00:06:33 --> 00:06:36

night and day. And then the next two verses are going to speak

00:06:36 --> 00:06:41

about the sun and the moon. But one of the things that we really

00:06:41 --> 00:06:44

should do is to try to go out of our way to get in tune with

00:06:44 --> 00:06:45

nature.

00:06:46 --> 00:06:50

Because there is a wisdom, many wisdoms behind the creation of the

00:06:50 --> 00:06:54

sun, the creation of the moon, but we want to at least have a basic

00:06:54 --> 00:06:58

understanding of the way that they work. And I remember very early

00:06:58 --> 00:07:03

on, shortly after conversion, and this was amazing, being exposed

00:07:03 --> 00:07:06

through Sheikh Hamza Yusuf and visiting Mortain. And scholars,

00:07:06 --> 00:07:12

the ways traditionally, that scholars and laymen alike found

00:07:12 --> 00:07:13

the times of prayer.

00:07:14 --> 00:07:18

And it's all ultimately based upon the sun prayer is based upon the

00:07:18 --> 00:07:22

sun, and the month in which we're in the bus and until Ramadan, its

00:07:22 --> 00:07:24

fasting is based upon the moon.

00:07:25 --> 00:07:30

And when you start to learn the way that the sun works, we all

00:07:30 --> 00:07:34

know that the sun rises in the east and sets in the west. But how

00:07:34 --> 00:07:37

does that relate to your own shadow? And how does that relate

00:07:37 --> 00:07:43

to prayer coming in. And when you don't have a way to calculate it,

00:07:44 --> 00:07:47

how do you then determine the purpose of entered? What ends up

00:07:47 --> 00:07:48

happening is, is that

00:07:50 --> 00:07:54

towards the mid day, which is where the sun reaches, it's seen

00:07:54 --> 00:07:56

at the highest place in the sky.

00:07:58 --> 00:08:01

Depending upon the time of year, is it whatever object you're using

00:08:01 --> 00:08:05

to measure. So let's say using your body is that the son is going

00:08:05 --> 00:08:06

to cast a shadow,

00:08:07 --> 00:08:11

the sun is going to cast a shadow. And depending upon whether you're

00:08:11 --> 00:08:13

in the northern hemisphere, or in the southern hemisphere, we're

00:08:13 --> 00:08:16

going to be speaking primarily because we're in the United States

00:08:16 --> 00:08:21

of America for the northern hemisphere is that the your, the

00:08:21 --> 00:08:24

shadow of the sun is going to be facing north.

00:08:26 --> 00:08:32

Why? Because that we live in the northern hemisphere. And that the

00:08:32 --> 00:08:36

sun when it reaches the highest point of the day when it reaches

00:08:36 --> 00:08:40

its zenith, depending upon whether you're talking about the summer

00:08:40 --> 00:08:45

solstice, which is June 21, or the winter solstice, which is December

00:08:45 --> 00:08:50

21, is that in December, the sun is going to be the lowest in the

00:08:50 --> 00:08:53

northern hemisphere, of course, that it ever has been in the sky,

00:08:54 --> 00:08:57

and the summer, it's going to be the highest. And then it's going

00:08:57 --> 00:09:03

to slowly move from June 21 to December 21 to the lowest point in

00:09:03 --> 00:09:07

the sky. And depending on how low the sky the sun is in the sky will

00:09:07 --> 00:09:11

be depending upon how long your shadow is, but at the zenith your

00:09:11 --> 00:09:15

shadow will stop or at least will it will appear to stop

00:09:17 --> 00:09:21

for a period of time again depending on where you are in the

00:09:21 --> 00:09:22

face of this earth and depending upon the season.

00:09:24 --> 00:09:28

And when the shadow stops, that is that time this is referred to as

00:09:28 --> 00:09:34

the zenith and it's only when that the shadow first moves away after

00:09:34 --> 00:09:39

having stopped is that the her interest and no doubt that if you

00:09:39 --> 00:09:41

try to calculate that to his shadow, it's going to come in a

00:09:41 --> 00:09:46

little bit later than if you try to calculate it that use

00:09:46 --> 00:09:50

calculations to determine that when the sun first moved away that

00:09:50 --> 00:09:55

from Zenith but that's how we know the her interests. But when you

00:09:55 --> 00:09:59

get out in you, you start to see that the shadows in you

00:10:00 --> 00:10:04

Let's start to that witness these signs that Allah Allah has given

00:10:04 --> 00:10:10

us, it really puts you in touch in a way that that we really

00:10:10 --> 00:10:13

shouldn't be Unfortunately, nowadays, the only thing people

00:10:13 --> 00:10:17

really know about the sun is that it will burn you. So we need to

00:10:17 --> 00:10:21

wear suntan lotion, or is it south facing because people want their

00:10:21 --> 00:10:25

backyards to be south facing, there's a lot more to it than just

00:10:25 --> 00:10:27

that, yes, there's nothing wrong with trying to have a house that

00:10:27 --> 00:10:31

has a lot of sun in it. But it's there's a lot more to it than

00:10:31 --> 00:10:35

that. And the beautiful thing is always a religious dimension. This

00:10:35 --> 00:10:39

is a whole other story how our religion formed our use of

00:10:39 --> 00:10:45

technology. And that, really, that many of these these great

00:10:45 --> 00:10:48

technological that feats of Muslims, things like the

00:10:48 --> 00:10:52

astrolabe, and so forth, and so on, and really the study of

00:10:52 --> 00:10:57

astronomy, and that they came out of the Muslim need to that read

00:10:57 --> 00:11:02

the signs for that acts of worship. And so that it has a

00:11:02 --> 00:11:06

religious nature to it. And there are deep blessings in this anyhow,

00:11:06 --> 00:11:11

is that we should experience nighttime, we should experience

00:11:11 --> 00:11:16

daytime, and we should reflect upon them as signs. And so that

00:11:17 --> 00:11:17

when

00:11:18 --> 00:11:22

the sun starts to set in again, is that the intensity of the sun, the

00:11:22 --> 00:11:27

closer that gets to the western horizon, where it's going to set

00:11:27 --> 00:11:30

will decrease in it will decreasing or decrease. And then

00:11:30 --> 00:11:34

when it sets. And this was actually when we were first taught

00:11:34 --> 00:11:35

this as a side point.

00:11:37 --> 00:11:41

That one of the our teachers first asked the people that how do you

00:11:41 --> 00:11:45

know if the sun is set? And people say, Well, you look to the west.

00:11:45 --> 00:11:47

They said no, you actually look to the east.

00:11:48 --> 00:11:52

Because is that when you if you imagine, just imagine just kind of

00:11:52 --> 00:11:56

a plane. And if it was completely flat and there are no

00:11:56 --> 00:12:01

obstructions, the sun as long as it it just before it sets the

00:12:01 --> 00:12:05

imagine the disk of the Sun, just above the earth,

00:12:06 --> 00:12:10

that there will be a redness that is seen in the eastern horizon. If

00:12:10 --> 00:12:12

there's no obstructions.

00:12:13 --> 00:12:17

As soon as the sun starts to go beneath the horizon, you will look

00:12:17 --> 00:12:22

to the east, you'll start to see a little bit of grayness. So if it

00:12:22 --> 00:12:26

were completely flat, and there were no obstructions, the very

00:12:26 --> 00:12:30

first grayness indicates is that the sun has set.

00:12:31 --> 00:12:35

And so he said, You actually look to the east. And then where we

00:12:35 --> 00:12:38

were in California learning at that time, because there were

00:12:38 --> 00:12:41

mountains, he said, You have to wait a little bit longer, wait for

00:12:41 --> 00:12:45

that green gray patch to be a little bit that wider. Because is

00:12:45 --> 00:12:48

that you have to count for the fact that the mountains are in the

00:12:48 --> 00:12:52

way and what's considered is the actual horizon itself. But just

00:12:52 --> 00:12:57

learning simple things like that, and acquainting yourself with your

00:12:57 --> 00:13:00

particular area, and that how long your shadow is in the middle of

00:13:00 --> 00:13:03

the summer, how long it is in the winter. And when the prayer times

00:13:03 --> 00:13:06

come in and so forth. This is a really beautiful thing. And it's

00:13:06 --> 00:13:10

an act of worship, and it will bring out your fifth or in a

00:13:10 --> 00:13:15

beautiful way. And it will put you in tune with alasa Pontus creation

00:13:15 --> 00:13:19

and allow you to reflect upon it. So next time that we experience

00:13:20 --> 00:13:24

the sun setting, let's think about this metaphor, we can imagine an

00:13:24 --> 00:13:29

animal being skinned and that skin slowly being pulled off. And just

00:13:29 --> 00:13:33

as that the further the sun gets beneath the horizon, as it gets

00:13:33 --> 00:13:37

darker and darker and darker and darker and darker. And then Allah

00:13:37 --> 00:13:42

says, for either home mother the moon, in Behold, they're in

00:13:42 --> 00:13:48

darkness. And other words is that it's such a subtle process little

00:13:48 --> 00:13:52

by little, little by little is it, it's getting darker and darker and

00:13:52 --> 00:13:58

darker until that it becomes that fully dark in most places on

00:13:58 --> 00:14:02

Earth, and then you get into the exceptions when you get to to you

00:14:02 --> 00:14:02

know, closer

00:14:04 --> 00:14:05

to north or to the South Pole.

00:14:07 --> 00:14:11

And you reach a certain point where you reach a, a particular

00:14:13 --> 00:14:19

excuse me, longitude were that the sun might actually not set or that

00:14:19 --> 00:14:23

the sun might actually not rise depending upon the time of the

00:14:23 --> 00:14:27

year. Anyhow, is it for either when was the new moon they are in

00:14:27 --> 00:14:30

darkness. Now, the only other thing there and this is important,

00:14:30 --> 00:14:35

especially when it comes to prayer is that when the sun sets,

00:14:36 --> 00:14:40

eventually that it's going to get that darker and darker and darker

00:14:40 --> 00:14:47

even in on in on the the western horizon and then there will be

00:14:47 --> 00:14:50

what is called that there are what are called as fuck, which is the

00:14:50 --> 00:14:54

playoff chef up and the scholars have said that there's three

00:14:54 --> 00:14:59

different colors that you will see red, in kind of orange and then

00:14:59 --> 00:15:00

orange

00:15:00 --> 00:15:02

Just yellow, and then white.

00:15:03 --> 00:15:07

And then for the two of the schools of law is that when the

00:15:07 --> 00:15:11

redness in the sky goes, so it's no longer red, it's moved to like

00:15:11 --> 00:15:16

an orangish type of yellow, then that's an indication that each of

00:15:16 --> 00:15:20

hers entered, even if there's still light in the sky. And then

00:15:20 --> 00:15:24

after that orangish yellow, it will then that there'll be like a

00:15:24 --> 00:15:28

whiteness, so that for some schools, the person is entered for

00:15:28 --> 00:15:31

the Hanafi school, it's not until all the white in the sky, all the

00:15:31 --> 00:15:34

light in the sky, which is the whiteness will eventually go out

00:15:34 --> 00:15:36

of the sky. And then when it becomes completely dark, that's

00:15:36 --> 00:15:40

when you should interest according to the Hanafi school. But it's

00:15:40 --> 00:15:45

really, it's really neat. You know, when you actually go out and

00:15:45 --> 00:15:49

see this and experiences, he again puts you in touch with your

00:15:49 --> 00:15:52

prayer. And I remember these beautiful days of Mauritania,

00:15:52 --> 00:15:55

actually praying Maghrib as Margaret without any artificial

00:15:55 --> 00:15:59

light, praying, Isha as Isha, without any artificial light. And

00:15:59 --> 00:16:03

then depending upon the time of month, because depending upon the

00:16:03 --> 00:16:06

intensity of the light of the moon, would be depending upon how

00:16:06 --> 00:16:11

much you could actually see it each time, on the dark nights,

00:16:11 --> 00:16:16

which is where the Knights of the new moon, it's pitch black, you

00:16:16 --> 00:16:20

put your hand out, you can't see it. But on the nights of the full

00:16:20 --> 00:16:23

moon, is that you can actually see fairly well, you actually don't

00:16:23 --> 00:16:26

even really need a flashlight to walk out around out in the dark.

00:16:27 --> 00:16:31

And so that that's important for us to have a basic knowledge of

00:16:31 --> 00:16:34

this and we should increase in that knowledge and get more and

00:16:34 --> 00:16:40

more in tune. as we as we progress. So for dat home,

00:16:40 --> 00:16:46

literally moon. So the alternation of night and day, are mentioned

00:16:46 --> 00:16:49

throughout the Quran. These are signs of Allah's power, these are

00:16:49 --> 00:16:54

signs of His Oneness signs of His perfect perfection. Soprano who

00:16:54 --> 00:16:55

want to Allah

00:16:57 --> 00:16:57

know.

00:17:01 --> 00:17:06

And then when we think about night and day, and the needs that we

00:17:06 --> 00:17:11

have, based upon what it is that we do at night, and what it is

00:17:11 --> 00:17:15

that we do by day, is that we have to be thankful for Allah subhanaw

00:17:15 --> 00:17:21

taala. In general, night is a time for rest. And Day is a time for

00:17:21 --> 00:17:26

work. This is generally the case, just as that when things are cold,

00:17:26 --> 00:17:30

they tend to not move as much when things are hot, they tend to move

00:17:30 --> 00:17:35

more. And that's, of course has that not just about the night in

00:17:35 --> 00:17:38

the day, but also about the season. Why do we think see things

00:17:38 --> 00:17:41

growing more in the summer, there's a lot more movement, when

00:17:41 --> 00:17:44

you boil things, it moves quick, when you freeze things, they start

00:17:44 --> 00:17:49

to there's a lack of movement. And likewise, it's cooler at night

00:17:49 --> 00:17:52

than is by day. So this is part of the story. But then also, this is

00:17:52 --> 00:17:57

the nature of light is that when things are light and clear, is

00:17:57 --> 00:17:59

that it's a lot easier to move, you're not going to stumble,

00:17:59 --> 00:18:03

you're not going to you can see. And then that the nature of

00:18:03 --> 00:18:07

darkness is it's harder to move about. So it's it's much more

00:18:07 --> 00:18:12

conducive to stillness. Now, you could just imagine how much our

00:18:12 --> 00:18:16

lives have changed with electricity. Just really, we

00:18:16 --> 00:18:20

should stop and think about that. How much of our lives changed as a

00:18:20 --> 00:18:25

result of electricity? And how good has it actually really been

00:18:25 --> 00:18:29

for humankind? If you think about if you would find a way to measure

00:18:29 --> 00:18:33

this, everything that has happened from the that invention of

00:18:33 --> 00:18:35

electricity until now

00:18:36 --> 00:18:40

you need to put it into scale. How much of that is good? And how much

00:18:40 --> 00:18:41

of that is bad?

00:18:44 --> 00:18:48

What would the proportion really be? The vast majority of uses, it

00:18:48 --> 00:18:53

has actually, that through electricity and other modern forms

00:18:53 --> 00:18:59

of technology is that it's allowed people to have the worst aspects

00:18:59 --> 00:19:01

of themselves get a grip on them.

00:19:03 --> 00:19:07

It's allowed them to do things in that they would never have been

00:19:07 --> 00:19:08

able to do in the premotor world.

00:19:09 --> 00:19:13

And that doesn't mean that we don't use it for the sake of Allah

00:19:13 --> 00:19:17

subhanaw taala we should. But even now that we're being told that

00:19:17 --> 00:19:20

there's some harms to it, like you shouldn't sleep with lights on

00:19:20 --> 00:19:23

that it's actually good to sleep in darkness and nice that we're

00:19:23 --> 00:19:27

actually finding out now some of the harms that are associated that

00:19:27 --> 00:19:30

with this light, even though there's no doubt that things that

00:19:30 --> 00:19:34

are actually a great benefit as well. So we are not anti

00:19:34 --> 00:19:37

technology in that sense. And we use lights but we should have

00:19:37 --> 00:19:44

responsible use and we should all have a time we spend in darkness.

00:19:46 --> 00:19:50

And we should that seek out a time that we spent in darkness, even if

00:19:50 --> 00:19:53

it means we have to put ourselves in a closet, even if there's no

00:19:53 --> 00:19:57

other way than to put something that over your head and to cover

00:19:57 --> 00:20:00

it with like a like a like head covering

00:20:00 --> 00:20:04

Have some sort. Why, because the grave is dark. And the only thing

00:20:04 --> 00:20:08

that is going to bring light to our graves is our righteous deeds.

00:20:10 --> 00:20:14

And we have to get ourselves accustomed now to being placed in

00:20:14 --> 00:20:18

the grave. The more that we come to terms with that now, the more

00:20:18 --> 00:20:22

that we prepare ourselves for that moment where we take our last

00:20:22 --> 00:20:26

breath, and we're going to be buried six feet deep, is that the

00:20:27 --> 00:20:30

less loneliness that we will have in the grave, and the more

00:20:30 --> 00:20:34

intimacy that we will have, just as there are righteous servants

00:20:34 --> 00:20:36

who find intimacy and darkness.

00:20:37 --> 00:20:42

And there was one scholar who said, is it for 40 years, I, the

00:20:42 --> 00:20:46

only thing that brought me grief was Dawn, not that he didn't want

00:20:46 --> 00:20:48

to pray, this is a person who loved to pray more than anything

00:20:48 --> 00:20:52

else. But it was the night was over. Because it was the night was

00:20:52 --> 00:20:57

the time where him where he was focusing on his worship of Allah

00:20:57 --> 00:21:03

subhanho data, and that the night had ended. And so that we find

00:21:03 --> 00:21:06

that there are a number of things that we do at night, just as there

00:21:06 --> 00:21:11

are a number of things that we do by day. And Day is a time that

00:21:11 --> 00:21:14

people are working is the time that we're acquiring or

00:21:14 --> 00:21:17

sustenance, where by which that we live, and all of these other types

00:21:17 --> 00:21:21

of things. And so daytime was important, and that there are

00:21:21 --> 00:21:25

certain things that we do by day, and just apps there are certain

00:21:25 --> 00:21:28

things that we do by night, the general principle you could go

00:21:28 --> 00:21:33

into great detail here, night is a time of tranquility and rest in a

00:21:33 --> 00:21:38

daytime daytime is a time of action and activity.

00:21:39 --> 00:21:44

So ALLAH SubhanA wa Tada that he says, I tend to have a little

00:21:44 --> 00:21:47

nervous lock woman and the harder for either homeless anymore, the

00:21:47 --> 00:21:50

night is also safe. And then we stripped the daylight from it and

00:21:50 --> 00:21:53

behold, they are in darkness.

00:21:56 --> 00:21:58

And then in verse 38,

00:21:59 --> 00:22:03

was shim. So tissue healing was to convince her that he could tackle

00:22:03 --> 00:22:09

the Euro diseases I mean, the sun to runs, it's determined course,

00:22:09 --> 00:22:15

laid down for by the Almighty, the own knowing Subhanallah Donna what

00:22:15 --> 00:22:19

shrimps so now a lot to add to speaks of the son.

00:22:20 --> 00:22:27

And he says Teddy, that he says the sun is running. And this is an

00:22:27 --> 00:22:31

indication of movement. And even though that we know that actually

00:22:31 --> 00:22:36

the earth is orbiting the sun. From our perspective, it looks

00:22:36 --> 00:22:39

like the sun is orbiting the Earth. It looks like the sun is

00:22:39 --> 00:22:43

going around the Earth. We see the sun rising in the east end going

00:22:43 --> 00:22:47

that in through the sky and we're setting in the west. It's it's

00:22:47 --> 00:22:52

going upon a course it runs, it's determined course the Mr. Calvin

00:22:52 --> 00:22:57

Lucha. What is this determined course, there are different

00:22:57 --> 00:23:03

opinions of the scholars. Some say it is that the fact that it rises

00:23:03 --> 00:23:08

in the east and then it on a course and it sets in the west, a

00:23:08 --> 00:23:11

very exact course a very precise course

00:23:12 --> 00:23:17

that you can't tell the difference from year after year after year.

00:23:17 --> 00:23:20

If you're measuring that shadow, it comes up in the exact same

00:23:20 --> 00:23:24

place and sets in the exact same place. And whether it be that some

00:23:24 --> 00:23:29

way for you to that determine that and to that measure that you would

00:23:29 --> 00:23:32

see it comes up according to your experience and how you're

00:23:32 --> 00:23:36

measuring exactly in the same place every year, year in year out

00:23:36 --> 00:23:38

year in and year out.

00:23:39 --> 00:23:45

But others say is that this determined course relates to the

00:23:45 --> 00:23:48

winter in the summer solstice about which that we've spoken.

00:23:49 --> 00:23:52

So if you can imagine is that depending upon how far you are

00:23:52 --> 00:23:58

from the equator, if you are on the equator exactly, is that on

00:23:58 --> 00:24:02

summer solstice, the sun is going to be directly above you. And then

00:24:02 --> 00:24:07

to the degree that you move away from the equator is to the degree

00:24:07 --> 00:24:12

that on June 21 is that it is going to be closer or further from

00:24:12 --> 00:24:17

you. So where we are here in Pennsylvania is that if you look

00:24:17 --> 00:24:22

up on June 21 Is that you will see that it is not directly above you

00:24:22 --> 00:24:26

and that it will just create a shadow and sometimes that the

00:24:26 --> 00:24:30

shadows when you get into the equatorial regions are so small is

00:24:30 --> 00:24:35

that it's very hard very hard to even see until then on Sundays

00:24:35 --> 00:24:38

it's almost as if the sun in some places actually is right overhead

00:24:39 --> 00:24:39

okay.

00:24:41 --> 00:24:45

And so, some say that this determined course it Are they

00:24:45 --> 00:24:49

relate to the northern most in southern most extreme before it

00:24:49 --> 00:24:54

reverses directions. And so in the northern hemisphere where we are,

00:24:54 --> 00:24:55

is that

00:24:56 --> 00:24:58

what ends up happening is

00:24:59 --> 00:24:59

is that

00:25:00 --> 00:25:04

The sun, the closer you get to the winter solstice, the more southern

00:25:04 --> 00:25:12

it is in the sky. Okay? So keep in mind that the sun rises in the

00:25:12 --> 00:25:17

east sets in the west. So if I'm standing there, and this is why is

00:25:17 --> 00:25:21

that if this direction is north, this is East that South, and

00:25:21 --> 00:25:28

that's west, and I'm standing here, okay, and the sun rose here.

00:25:28 --> 00:25:33

So it's coming up. And it's actually going to be over here,

00:25:33 --> 00:25:36

it's going to be coming like this. And that's why when the sun's

00:25:36 --> 00:25:39

here, if I'm standing here is that there's going to be a shadow

00:25:39 --> 00:25:45

towards the north, at the zenith, okay, but then the sun in the

00:25:45 --> 00:25:49

winter is going to be over here. So in other words, that it's still

00:25:49 --> 00:25:54

to the southern side, in the northern hemisphere, even on June

00:25:54 --> 00:25:59

21, and it gets further to the south, until you get to December

00:25:59 --> 00:26:04

21, where it's the furthest most South, and then it moves back. So

00:26:04 --> 00:26:08

some say that it refers to this other say that it refers to the

00:26:08 --> 00:26:14

day of judgment, and that there is a Hadith where I was asked

00:26:16 --> 00:26:17

that

00:26:18 --> 00:26:21

he actually asked the Prophet asked, although, do you know where

00:26:21 --> 00:26:24

the sun goes when it says, And he replied, Allah and His Messenger

00:26:24 --> 00:26:28

knows best, he says, it travels to prostrate itself underneath the

00:26:28 --> 00:26:32

throne, and ask permission to rise again and as permitted, then is

00:26:32 --> 00:26:34

about to prostrate yourself, but as prostration will not be

00:26:34 --> 00:26:37

accepted, it won't ask permission to go on its course. But it will

00:26:37 --> 00:26:40

not be permitted and will instead be ordered to return once it has

00:26:40 --> 00:26:45

come. And so it will rise in the West. And so that some this is the

00:26:45 --> 00:26:49

end result, that of where the they must have heard of the Sun

00:26:50 --> 00:26:55

ultimately, is that beneath the throne, and so, all of these are

00:26:55 --> 00:26:59

different shades of meanings. And then Allah Allah says that it gets

00:26:59 --> 00:27:05

muddled utilize these and Eileen. And so this determined course, of

00:27:05 --> 00:27:11

the Sun is the talk today, this is from the decree of the Aziz, the

00:27:11 --> 00:27:15

Almighty, the in who has he does whatever he wants in his book, in

00:27:15 --> 00:27:21

his dominion subhanho wa taala. And that he is the Alim he is the

00:27:21 --> 00:27:24

All Knowing subhanho wa taala.

00:27:27 --> 00:27:32

And then when we really start to think about how this really works,

00:27:33 --> 00:27:38

and the distance of us from the sun, that exact distance were to

00:27:38 --> 00:27:42

be a little bit more, and we start to think about the degree of the

00:27:42 --> 00:27:48

tilt of the earth axis. And that the speed at which that we are

00:27:48 --> 00:27:51

actually orbiting on our own axis and then orbiting the sun. All of

00:27:51 --> 00:27:57

this precision is what gives us life here on Earth. And it really

00:27:57 --> 00:28:01

is fascinating to think about. And it's actually very humbling to

00:28:01 --> 00:28:05

think that the earth is 93,000 miles away. And we are

00:28:05 --> 00:28:10

simultaneously orbiting on our own axis and orbiting the Earth. That

00:28:10 --> 00:28:13

is incredible if you think about it. And we don't even feel that

00:28:13 --> 00:28:14

we're moving.

00:28:15 --> 00:28:20

The earth is moving extremely fast right now as we speak. But we

00:28:20 --> 00:28:21

don't even feel like we're moving.

00:28:23 --> 00:28:24

That's really amazing.

00:28:25 --> 00:28:29

And we're experiencing that we're experiencing de. And whereas for

00:28:29 --> 00:28:33

some people might think that these details of science that we didn't

00:28:33 --> 00:28:34

know before,

00:28:35 --> 00:28:39

are explaining what religion could ever do. No, that's not the way a

00:28:39 --> 00:28:42

believer sees it. The more details that we have of the means and how

00:28:42 --> 00:28:47

this actually works, creates a deeper sense of on the heart of

00:28:47 --> 00:28:52

the believer, where we say subhanallah the more that we know

00:28:52 --> 00:28:56

exactly how this process is working. And that the speeds and

00:28:56 --> 00:29:00

the distances that we're talking, that should make us Say Subhan

00:29:00 --> 00:29:04

Allah and really be an author of a lot of other common data in terms

00:29:04 --> 00:29:08

of how he chose to partner with other to make this happen.

00:29:10 --> 00:29:14

So then he that moves in verse 39, to speak about the moon

00:29:15 --> 00:29:20

will come out our condemnor home and Zillow had to either kill or

00:29:20 --> 00:29:21

Julian Kadeem

00:29:23 --> 00:29:29

and that we have determined phases or mansions for the moon, until

00:29:29 --> 00:29:33

finally it becomes like an old date stock.

00:29:34 --> 00:29:41

And so this is in reference to the waxing and the waning of the moon.

00:29:42 --> 00:29:44

And so when you have a new moon,

00:29:45 --> 00:29:50

there is a day or two that you don't see it and then it appears

00:29:51 --> 00:29:57

and then the moon waxes ie gets bigger and bigger and bigger until

00:29:57 --> 00:30:00

it becomes a full moon and then it will

00:30:00 --> 00:30:05

veins, ie gets smaller and smaller and smaller, until you can no

00:30:05 --> 00:30:08

longer see it doesn't disappear, it's there, you just can't see it.

00:30:09 --> 00:30:13

And then there is a day or two, until then you'll see it again.

00:30:13 --> 00:30:19

And this is why a lunar month is 29 or 30 days. So they speak of

00:30:19 --> 00:30:27

what are called the Manasa of the moon, the 28 stations or mentions

00:30:27 --> 00:30:34

of the moon. And so every lunar month has that 28 mentions and the

00:30:34 --> 00:30:41

moon moves 13 degrees every single night. So if you would that see

00:30:41 --> 00:30:44

exactly where the moon rises because the moon in a sense rises

00:30:44 --> 00:30:48

when you first see it when it rises if you compare it to the

00:30:48 --> 00:30:53

where it was the day before it's 13 degrees 13 degrees further 13

00:30:53 --> 00:30:57

degrees further until that again it will go around you

00:30:59 --> 00:31:03

and so is that what is referring to is here's that these distances

00:31:03 --> 00:31:08

that the moon is moving that in every day and every night that

00:31:08 --> 00:31:13

Allah Tada is that pointing our attention to the moon and how it

00:31:13 --> 00:31:18

also is a sign like the sun is and it's different than the sun, the

00:31:18 --> 00:31:21

sun and the moon is different than the sun because the light of the

00:31:21 --> 00:31:24

sun of the moon rather is actually from the sun.

00:31:25 --> 00:31:31

And that it as it goes through that its phases, it depends upon

00:31:31 --> 00:31:34

what it actually is that we see that from that very moment.

00:31:36 --> 00:31:40

And so Allah Tala has determined these mentions how he says cut

00:31:40 --> 00:31:44

them now. Allah has determined them meaning that they're there

00:31:44 --> 00:31:48

for a specific purpose. And this is why Allah to Allah says in the

00:31:48 --> 00:31:52

Quran, yes, I don't know. And in a Hila they ask you about the

00:31:52 --> 00:31:58

crescent moons we'll hear more Akita leanness well Hajj, is it

00:31:58 --> 00:32:04

say they are four times for people in for Hajj to determine times.

00:32:06 --> 00:32:11

And we of course go off of the lunar month. And the lunar month

00:32:11 --> 00:32:15

is actually remarkably accurate because it keeps resetting itself

00:32:15 --> 00:32:19

naturally. You don't need a leap year it keeps resetting itself.

00:32:21 --> 00:32:26

And that lunar month again is going to be 29 or 30 days. And

00:32:26 --> 00:32:29

Allah Allah says in Surah Yunus, who will have the jar Allah

00:32:29 --> 00:32:33

shrimps of the year and welcoming a new one neuron. He is the one

00:32:33 --> 00:32:39

who made the sun a source of light Lea radiance in the light in the

00:32:39 --> 00:32:44

moon light will cut determine Azula and that he determined for

00:32:44 --> 00:32:49

mentions Lita animal in order that you may know, either the city when

00:32:49 --> 00:32:55

he saw the number of years and to make calculations. Mahalo kala

00:32:55 --> 00:32:59

Hadelich 11 Huck Aleta only created this in truth you foster I

00:32:59 --> 00:33:03

think he will detail for you His signs, The Omen Yeah, the moon to

00:33:03 --> 00:33:05

a people that know.

00:33:06 --> 00:33:13

And so that the moon that has mentioned, and it that finally

00:33:13 --> 00:33:16

becomes like an old date, stock.

00:33:18 --> 00:33:22

And and what or June, if someone has ever been to the Arabian

00:33:22 --> 00:33:27

Peninsula, and that you've seen the way that dates grow.

00:33:29 --> 00:33:34

And dates grow in clusters, and so that you have the date home and as

00:33:34 --> 00:33:38

you go up, there's a cluster that is attached, and it goes off like

00:33:38 --> 00:33:41

this, and then the dates come down like this. Remember, one of the

00:33:41 --> 00:33:45

first things that happened when I visited the Muslim world is that I

00:33:45 --> 00:33:49

arrived ghetto in Mauritania, and my teacher should hopefully

00:33:49 --> 00:33:54

preserve him, brought me a cluster of dates that were still on that

00:33:54 --> 00:33:58

the actual stock, he just brought me a stock it was during the date

00:33:58 --> 00:34:01

season, it's brought me a stock and we actually pick the dates

00:34:01 --> 00:34:04

from the stock, wash them and then ate them there that fresh.

00:34:06 --> 00:34:12

And that so the the the stocks, what happens to them is that as

00:34:12 --> 00:34:16

they get old, and here, this is why kilojoules per diem is that

00:34:16 --> 00:34:21

they start to bow and that when they start to bow is that they

00:34:21 --> 00:34:28

start to that turn a yellowish type color. And so there is a is

00:34:28 --> 00:34:34

this is a a simile for that the moon. This is what happened. This

00:34:34 --> 00:34:38

is what the moon actually looks like is that it's that little

00:34:38 --> 00:34:44

sliver that's bowl shaped, that if you see this old date cluster that

00:34:44 --> 00:34:48

is coming from the date stock. If you look at the actual stock

00:34:48 --> 00:34:53

itself, it starts to bow in that same moonlight crescent shape, and

00:34:54 --> 00:34:56

that the color is similar as well.

00:35:04 --> 00:35:08

Masha Allah, and then Allah Allah says in verse 40

00:35:10 --> 00:35:14

Let's Shamsi and nothing until the Recon Kumar Allah Lagos said we

00:35:14 --> 00:35:17

can know her or Kowloon fi fellow Kenya Sparrow.

00:35:19 --> 00:35:23

The sun cannot overtake the moon, nor can the night outrun the day

00:35:24 --> 00:35:26

each floats in its own orbit.

00:35:28 --> 00:35:32

So we're just going to introduce this very briefly. And then we

00:35:32 --> 00:35:33

will come back to this verse.

00:35:35 --> 00:35:40

Tomorrow insha, Allah Allah. But this idea that the sun cannot

00:35:40 --> 00:35:44

overtake the moon, nor can the night outrun the day, and each one

00:35:44 --> 00:35:49

of them is in its own orbit. And what we see here is, is that

00:35:50 --> 00:35:54

the night and the day serve a function. And Allah to Allah has

00:35:54 --> 00:35:58

determined for the sun to be in a certain way in this moon to be in

00:35:58 --> 00:36:02

a certain way such that it creates night and day for us. And the

00:36:02 --> 00:36:06

point here is, is that, that when we see this happening, we come to

00:36:06 --> 00:36:10

the conclusion this is not just happening by chance, that did not

00:36:10 --> 00:36:14

just come together. This is company this is happening because

00:36:14 --> 00:36:20

Allah decreed for this to happen. And the night will not come until

00:36:20 --> 00:36:23

it's time for the day to end. And the day won't come until it's time

00:36:23 --> 00:36:27

for the night to end. This is how a lot to outer has created it, one

00:36:27 --> 00:36:32

cannot overtake the other and one cannot outrun the other is it it

00:36:32 --> 00:36:37

is how Allah subhanaw taala has wanted it to be. And this is the

00:36:37 --> 00:36:42

way that it is. In other words, is that the sun and the moon are more

00:36:42 --> 00:36:47

Sahara is that they are subjugated. And they do what it is

00:36:47 --> 00:36:51

that they're told. And everything in reality is in submission to a

00:36:51 --> 00:36:54

lot of adequate data. That of course, including the sun in the

00:36:54 --> 00:36:58

moon, they're doing exactly what Allah Allah wants them to do. It's

00:36:58 --> 00:37:01

it we as human beings end up not doing what it is that we are

00:37:01 --> 00:37:06

supposed to do. But through a process of reflection, reflection,

00:37:06 --> 00:37:10

reflecting upon a lot of other signs in his creations, hopefully,

00:37:10 --> 00:37:13

is that we will be inspired to then realize is that we also have

00:37:13 --> 00:37:16

purpose, and there's something that we should be doing and to

00:37:16 --> 00:37:19

direct our attention and direct our spiritual aspiration towards

00:37:19 --> 00:37:22

that which will benefit us in this world and the next we'll come back

00:37:22 --> 00:37:26

to this verse and continue on tomorrow within Hi Tara. Will

00:37:26 --> 00:37:30

Salalah hydroseeding from London on Saturday, Salam Al hamdu

00:37:30 --> 00:37:32
