Allahumma salli wa sallim wa barik ala nabiyyina
Muhammad wa ala alihi wa sahbihi wa sallim
Allahumma tasliman kathira amma ba'd.
All praise is due to Allah and His
praise and blessings and peace be upon our
Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, his family,
his companions and his followers until the Day
of Judgment.
I bear witness that Allah is the only
one worthy of worship and Muhammad sallallahu alayhi
wa sallam, his last and final messenger.
Huma shaykhal islami wal muslimin Huma afdhalu hadhihi
al ummah ba'da nabiyyiha sallallahu alayhi wa sallam
Huma minhu sallallahu alayhi wa sallam kassam'i
wal basar He said about these two individuals
that they are from me like my ears
and eyes.
They are the best two people ever to
walk on the face of this earth after
the Prophets and the Messengers.
These two individuals are the closest to the
Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam and the most
noble of all companions and all the ummah
of Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.
They have a very high status in Islam.
The amount of virtues they have displayed in
their life and the amount of praise that
they received from Allah and His Messenger sallallahu
alayhi wa sallam unmatched.
The amount of virtues they have displayed in
their life and the amount of praise that
they received from Allah and His Messenger sallallahu
alayhi wa sallam is something that no one
can imagine unless they have studied the biography
of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.
The visit of Abu Bakr and Umar r
.a. The visit of Abu Bakr
and Umar r.a. Even though Abu Bakr
is known to be gentle and calm but
sometimes Abu Bakr can be a little bit
aggressive and strong and come across very strong.
So one day Abu Bakr and Umar r
.a. they were talking to each other back
and forth and disagree over something and the
discussion got heated up.
Abu Bakr became a little bit aggressive with
Umar and upset Umar He
kind of crossed the line.
There is friction happening between them.
Quickly Abu Bakr realized that he lost control.
Abu Bakr r.a. said, O Umar, forgive
me.
Umar r.a. said, O Umar, I am
sorry.
I think I have crossed the line.
Please forgive me.
Umar r.a. turned his back and he
started walking to his house.
Abu Bakr r.a. behind him said, O
father, O Umar, please.
Umar r.a. did not respond.
Please forgive me.
And he kept going until he went to
his house.
Enter his house.
Close the door.
Abu Bakr r.a. felt so bad.
He was in pain.
He couldn't go back even to his house.
How would he go back to his house
when he knows that his best friend, that
one of the closest companions to the Prophet
s.a.w. Umar r.a. is upset
with him.
And he is the one who have crossed
the line and have said something which is
not appropriate.
So he went to the Prophet s.a
.w. Was walking fast.
You can tell that he is very upset.
Abu Darda r.a. said, We were sitting
with the Prophet s.a.w. He
was walking very fast that he was holding
his toe, his garment in his hand and
even basically his knees were showing.
Usually that's not how, he was walking fast
and he is very upset, not even aware
that his legs completely, or his legs showing
and even his knees were showing.
This person is in a great distress.
There is something very upsetting to Abu Bakr
to be in such state.
He gave Salam to the Prophet s.a
.w. and the companion.
And he said, immediately, He said, There
is something between me and Abu Bakr and
I have said things which is not, I
should have said.
And I came out of my mouth and
I regretted.
Said something was not proper or maybe appropriate
and he became upset with me.
And I asked him to forgive me and
he didn't.
I seek his forgiveness and he did not.
You know, answered me.
So I came to you.
Came to the Prophet s.a.w. so
the Prophet s.a.w. maybe mediate.
Maybe the Prophet s.a.w. will talk
to Umar.
To make sure that Umar s.a.w.
will accept the apology of Abu Bakr s
.a.w. He did not accept
your apology, did not forgive you?
He said yes.
Umar, what did he forgive you?
He said he didn't say I forgive you,
you know what?
May Allah forgive Abu Bakr s.a.w.
May Allah forgive Abu Bakr s.a.w.
three times.
All this happening in the masjid in the
gathering of the Prophet s.a.w. But
there is a very different scene in Umar
s.a.w.'s house.
Inside Umar s.a.w.'s house that anger
that he had he calmed down and that
anger changed completely to a regret.
How come I did not accept Abu Bakr
s.a.w.'s apology?
How come that Abu Bakr s.a.w.
asked me to forgive him and I did
not say yes?
How come Abu Bakr s.a.w. left
me upset that I did not honor his
apology?
180 degrees.
After Abu Bakr s.a.w. was chasing
Umar s.a.w. to ask for forgiveness
now Umar s.a.w. said I need
to go to Abu Bakr s.a.w.
to ask for forgiveness and to apologize.
So he goes to Abu Bakr s.a
.w.'s house.
Is Abu Bakr s.a.w. here?
They said no.
He said where is he?
They said he might be at the Prophet
s.a.w.'s masjid.
And usually when you don't I would assume
that the first place to go look for
Abu Bakr s.a.w. is the masjid.
He is always with the Prophet s.a
.w. And Umar s.a.w. goes to
the masjid and he saw the Prophet s
.a.w. and Abu Bakr s.a.w.
there and Umar s.a.w. and the
Sahaba there.
He sat Umar s.a.w. and he
didn't say anything.
As if he wanted to solve it between
him and Abu Bakr s.a.w. alone.
No need to open the conversation in front
of everybody.
But he noticed that the Prophet s.a
.w. is not happy.
One thing unique about the Prophet s.a
.w. that you know how he feels by
just looking at his face.
He doesn't have I'm not going to say
hawker face.
No, no, no.
He doesn't have that straight face.
You immediately, he doesn't deceive.
If he's happy, he's happy.
You can tell from his face.
If he's not happy, he's not happy.
If he's in pain, it's in pain.
You immediately can tell.
So they found that the Prophet s.a
.w. the Prophet s.a.w.'s face was
changed and he looks very upset with Umar
s.a.w. when Umar came.
And to show you even how much he
is angry with Umar that Umar s.a
.w. sat on his side then the Prophet
s.a.w. looked to the other side,
to the companion.
Umar moved to the other side.
Then the Prophet s.a.w. looked to
the other side.
Then Umar s.a.w. sat right in
front of the Prophet s.a.w. Ya
Rasulallah, I see that you turn your face
away because you heard something about me.
What's good in this life, Ya Rasulallah if
you're going to turn your face away from
me?
If you are upset with me?
What's good in this life?
If you're not pleased with me?
You're the one Abu Bakr asked you to
forgive him, apologized to you, and you said
no?
You didn't accept it?
Your brother asking you to forgive him and
you deny that request?
I swear by the one who sent you
with the truth.
He said every time Ya Rasulallah he said
please forgive me, inside my heart I was
saying may Allah forgive you.
But I was upset, I didn't say it
out loud.
Allah is my witness that I don't love
anyone in this life after you more than
Abu Bakr.
When Umar s.a.w. saw the Prophet
s.a.w.'s face like that and the
conversation going to that direction Abu Bakr couldn't
control his feelings.
Abu Bakr moved from his spot, go to
the Prophet s.a.w. in front of
him He sat on his knees and he
said Ya Rasulallah, me too, I love this
man more than anyone else after you Ya
Rasulallah.
Ya Rasulallah, I
was the one who started it.
Ya Rasulallah, I the one who was wrong.
Not him, don't be angry at him.
Now the conversation goes to the companions to
us, the Umar and he said Allah has
sent me to you.
All of you said I was lying No
one said I'm a true Prophet and Messenger
from Allah except Abu Bakr.
At one point no one believed me except
Abu Bakr.
At one point Abu Bakr was the only
one said Ya Rasulallah, you were sent by
Allah and none of you did.
Abu Bakr at one point he was giving
his wealth he was willing to put his
life at risk to protect me, to support
me and none of you did.
He said leave my companion, leave my friend
alone leave my friend alone, don't bother him
don't upset him The narrator said No one
dared to say anything to Abu Bakr after
this.
At this point the sahaba realised that Abu
Bakr his status with the Prophet how close
he is to the Prophet beyond what they
were thinking they know he's very dear, very
special but that's another level All this from
the Prophet because the Prophet is faithful the
Prophet never forgot when no one said Ya
Rasulallah you are the Messenger of Allah, you
are saying the truth except Abu Bakr when
the whole world rejected him except Abu Bakr
when he was the first to give his
money, when the first to put his life
at risk when the first to believe in
him this story I don't want you to
forget about it as you leave the masjid
because I can't comment on this story in
this khutba I want you to reflect about
so many meanings so many lessons so many
things that might relate to you in your
life today I just want to open your
horizon with some points One, make sure if
you have wronged someone that you ask for
forgiveness make sure if you have done wrong
to someone that you don't think it's just
going to go away you have to say
it, you have to show it you have
to seek it it might not be granted
to you the acceptance of apology right away
but it doesn't mean that you go, ok
who cares, I tried No, Abu Bakr tried
and tried and go to the Prophet because
he knows how much influence he has that's
the attitude that you show when you were
wrong, when you have hurt someone when you
have wronged someone if
you have wronged someone make sure you go
and you ask for the forgiveness today because
in the day of judgement there is no
money it's good deeds and bad deeds he
takes from your good deeds and he gives
you from his bad deeds that's what you
should keep in mind see Abu Bakr had
no problem to admit it in front of
everybody he said Ya Rasool Allah I was
wrong I was the one who started it
it's not a shame to apologize it's not
a weakness to apologize weak people don't say
sorry strong people say sorry strong people admit
their mistakes I love how fast they realize
that they were wrong I wish that we
learned that sometimes I get cases and I'm
involved to reconciliate between family members not friends,
family members and it's going on for decades
I didn't talk to my brother for 20
years I didn't talk to my father for
10 years I didn't talk to my sister
for my aunt, for my husband or my
ex or whatever we need to learn, you
know what, I come back quickly I don't
leave things in my heart because these negative
feelings are nothing but poison forgiving someone does
not mean validating what this person has done
wrong let me say this out loud and
clear accepting somebody's apology, it doesn't mean that
I confirm what you did was correct or
ok no, at all it's still wrong, it's
still a mistake that's what apology, you apologize
for something wrong you have done, and you
accept the apology of someone who have hurt
you, harmed you what, you apologize for something
good I accept your apology because you've done
good to me no, because you've hurt me
that's why it's a very high level of
manners sometimes there are so many lessons something
that caught my attention that's why I started
my khutbah by telling you how great these
two men were even great men and women
can make mistakes things can heat it up
and they cross the line, use the word,
use the things make a poor judgment even
those people can make mistakes there is no
place for idealistic, there is no ideal persons
or perfect person, perfect group Abu Bakr and
Umar both have done wrong and they admit
it I wish that we can understand that,
we can learn that we can treat people
this way so we have so much rahmah
because sometimes our expectation sets us for failure
because we are expecting just to be perfect
especially when someone becomes more practicing their religion
they're just expecting them they become all of
a sudden from a human being you expect
them to be an angel may Allah forgive
us may Allah give us guidance in our
life my
dear brothers and sisters when Umar said
Ya Rasulullah there is no taste for life,
what kind of good in life if you're
angry at me have you ever thought about
that what kind of good life you will
have if Allah is angry at you you
know what what good in a money that
you earn but Allah curse you for it
what good in a vacation that you go
enjoy it but Allah is angry at you
for what you've been doing in that place
what good in a relationship between a man
and a woman that bring nothing but Allah
anger and wrath at you what good in
a desire that lead to the hellfire what
good in a life that far away from
Allah's blessings and love that's something you should
think about think about the moment you see
the Prophet in the day of judgment and
he's angry at you because you abandoned his
sunnah because you did not support his religion
and think about how you live your life
while you are blessed, loved appreciated by Allah
that's something to keep in mind as we
leave this khutbah Monday, our community are invited
to cast their votes and as a non
-profit organization we can't tell you who to
vote for or who not to vote for
but I just want to make sure that
you go and vote and use your conscience
make your best judgment and in election there
is no one size fits all it's a
myth the whole concept of one size fits
all is a myth ask me about it
how many times I thought it's going to
fit me and I thought it was too
small so just don't take it as a
general make sure that you understand this is
not an issue of halal and haram these
are opinions and I think you should be
able to and that diversity is healthy as
long as we have a common goal as
a community and we should not deceive ourselves
as a community because our power our leverage
comes from our power, how much power we
have and that's when you leverage that power
you can't ask for a leverage that you
don't have the power for that's not making
the community feel less about themselves but expectations
you say expectations sucks that's very true but
sometimes putting an expectation that's not realistic can
lead to people getting very disappointed I think
we do have power I think we do
have ability to make a change especially maybe
more states than others but even here in
Houston, even here in Texas we do have
a chance to make sure that our voice
is heard especially against those people who have
no care, no regards at all to us
as a community to us as ummah, to
what is hurting us the most as people
vote and lobby to support, for example, Israeli
lobbies and has to be a red line
not to be crossed at certain level we
as ummah also have our issues I can't
accept that the blood of the Muslims and
nations to be almost wiped out is to
be something cheap, has no value, has no
meaning but be cautious because also sometimes there
is a balance that you have to have
not every candidate, not every person there will
be a judgment call for each and every
case I feel your pain as a community
and I think we have every right to
express that in our way in one way
or another when it comes to voting but
my message and the most important message just
make sure that you go and vote just
make sure that your name counts because it's
an accumulating power over the years it's not
a this year we're going to make a
change may Allah make it easy for all
of us especially for our brothers and sisters
in Gaza and those people who are suffering
from this transgressions that's going on against the
innocent men and women in Palestine and other
places this aggression that we see every day
unfortunately demonstrated against a lot of innocent people
who have nothing to do but they're asking
for a simple rights which is the rights
of their own land rights of them to
be protected, to be free to be able
to travel free, to be able to breathe
to be able to ask for the simple
human rights that any person asks for may
Allah give them victory over those who transgress
against them may Allah bring peace and prosperity
and healing to this part of the world
may Allah bring peace and prosperity and healing
to this part of the world May Allah
send His Mercy, His Forgiveness and His Blessings
upon this Masjid and its people May Allah
send His Mercy, His Forgiveness and His Blessings
upon this Masjid and its people
