For those of you who have been following
the course,
an introduction to Sunni Theology, this is now
the second part.
This is a very brief explanation. To take
the broader explanation, as well as all of
the courses in a deeper way,
I encourage you to sign up, at my

That's gonna help me,
grow and scale the work that I do
with Habar Kala Fikal.
We're now moving on to the second text,
Ul Orujaman,
written by Mashallah, one of the great scholars,
hamdulillah, of Islam, born in 18/32, dies in
1917,
as Sheikh Salim al Bishri,
al Mariki al Azharib Rahim Muhullah.
Such an incredible scholar that he actually became
Sheikha Azhar twice.
SubhanAllah.
As I said he was born around 18/32
and he became orphaned,
around the age of 7, as I heard
from Ashaikh Ahmad Taharian,
who, Masha'Allah,
Lai'uhamu recently has passed away.
And, you know, each time I'm going to
try to tell some stories that I heard
from the masheikh about him. So instead of
just
like going through his entire life in one
class, we can just share like little,
you know, little moments
of light
that that shined from the life of the
Sheikh, Lai Rhamo.
So a Sheikh Ahmed Taharayan
who
just died of COVID 19, may Allah bless
him and forgive him and accept him as
a shayid.
I used to study
in his classes for 6 years.
And we used to study in the masjid
of Saydna Imam Ahmad ad Dardir right in
front of his house. We also used to
study
under the house of a sheikh,
Ahmed Tahari and, Rahimullah. And in the Madi'afa
of Sheikh Sadiq Ismail Al Adawi,
Sadiq Ladawi, excuse me.
We studied the Muwata and Riyadh Salehin and
those are great days. So Sheikh Ahmed Taharayan
used to share with us a lot of
stories.
And also I heard some of the stories
from,
a
Fatihijazi,
shayhi waustazi,
that we'll share with you. But but,
a sheikh Salim
Bishri
became an orphan. His father died at the
age of 7. He memorized the Quran at
the age of 9. He was actually taken
care of
by his uncle,
Baysuni al Bishri. And Baysuni al Bishri, a
sheikh used to be the sheikh in Masjid
Sayid Nafisa
in Egypt.
So he took care of him and he
memorized the Quran at 9 years old and
then he entered the the Azhar
and he became a student of some of
the great scholars of that time, Sheikh Ibrahim
al Bayjori,
Rahim Muhullah,
Sheikh Al Elish,
great Maliki giant,
as well as Sheikh
Al Hanani.
And Sheikh Al Hanani actually taught, a sheikh
Salim al Bishri, or it's called Dirasat Al
Uliya, which is like a master's degree or
PhD program.
And I heard this from, Sheikh Reyyan
Alay Hammou that
he actually
became very ill.
And there was a, like, a problem. Who's
going to teach
the rest of the class? So he said
to the students, like, we have someone who's
qualified
and who can continue. And he chose as
a student in the class a sheikh Salim
al Bishri,
Rahim Ola.
The importance of
passing the baton,
right, the importance of passing on leadership,
step up and step back, we say, in
organizing, where you see all this happening here
and how stepping back then allows, you know,
of course,
Sheikh Salim al Bishri al Mariki to become
known and to begin to teach and to
teach well and become well respected as a
teacher. You know, and I mentioned earlier he
became Shekel Azhar twice, but most of the
times he refused.
He introduced a lot of things into Azhar
like salaries and things like this, And it's
known, as I also heard from Sheikh Reyyan,
that he never accepted a salary.
And that whenever he would collect his paycheck,
so to speak, he would immediately give it
to the poor. But
there's a story
that's very important that just gives us kind
of an idea
of the Sheikh, and
that was that the Sheikh, he used to
every Friday visit a place called the Zawiyah
or Masjid
of Sadaat Al Madakia.
This place I visited Masha'Allah
a few times. It's a place
of incredible history and meaning.
13 of the students
of Imam Malik are buried there. Abdulrahman ibn
Qasim is buried there. Al Eshab and his,
children are buried there.
A Yahia,
the Rawi of the Muwata
is buried there. Sheikh Elish is buried there.
And if you walk in, you look to
the left, you see the graves of those
people, but to the right you see the
grave of Sheikh Elish and Sheikh Salim al
Bishari
And he used to visit
that place every Friday
SubhanAllah,
you know, to make dua for the ulama
and he had an affinity and a love
for those people. In fact, I remember
when I used to go to the house
of a Sheikh Ali Saleh,
next to Baba Zuela in Al Qahira,
next to Sukhul Muhammed,
and Sheikh Al Asari
gave me the phone number of a person
who lived close
to the place of Sadat and Madakya,
between Sadat and Madakya
and Masjid Nafisa,
Saydah Nafisa,
and he told me
you have to call this man, he's in
his nineties,
but he has an Ijazah to Sahinun.
Man, I probably called that number
who knows how many times. Subhanallah, nobody ever
picked up. And then,
you know, I talked to some other people
and they said,
he had passed away. But that area was
still it was still some people,
you know, still some gyms. You know, when
you go to study,
sometimes you get frustrated, but you find gyms
in the soil. Right? You got to work.
You got to dig the process. And now
some may add in people who like metals,
you know, got to dig to find the
metal.
So Sheikh Salim al Bishri,
he used to love to visit that place,
and 8 days before he died,
1917,
He,
slept,
after praying Suratul Jum'ah, as I remember in
in Masjid Saydah, Imam Shafi'i,
he went to Sadaat Al Marikiya
and he slept there. He took off his
imama and his
his his kulah or his jubba and he
slept in the Masjid and in the dream,
you know, he saw some of those people
and
he exchanged, I'm going to summarize like how
much there was love,
right?
As American Muslims, we have to
we have to stop
the negativity we have in our hearts to
one another. Allah is going to ask us
what we did in this fertile ground to
bring people to the Haqqan. If we're busy
hating each other
and having this ignorance and vice in our
heart, we won't build. But the sheikh,
he has love for people who died centuries
before him. SubhanAllah.
And they he saw them in his dream
and they mentioned to him the hadith of
the Prophet
that
a person will be resurrected with who he
loves. And He says, Wallahi, I love you
guys.
So He awakened
and there was actually a place
next to Sheikh Elish and he said to
the people Arju and Yakun
Hazar Kabri.
I hope that this will be my grave.
Around 8 days later,
you know,
he passed away and when he said that,
by the way, people said to him like,
you know,
may Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala increase your life
and may Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
can keep you strong and mighty. And He
said, listen,
you know,
like what is time today, it's time today.
And then
a week later
he passed away
and I heard from Sheikh Ahmed Taharian
that there was some confusion. Is there even
a place
in the Zawiya of Sadat al Madakia?
So they went and
as the Sheikh, the place that he said
Arju Anyaqun Hadha Qabri, like I hope this
will be the place I'm buried, he was
buried in that place next to Sheikh Ilish
Rahim.
You know it's important that when we study
from these people
that we also study something from their life
because the knowledge is only a component of
their life. As we'll share
from time to time some stories about the
sheikh,
you know, we can see that it wasn't
just like an intellectual enterprise,
but this is someone who embodied and lived,
Islam and may Allah forgive him,
and forgive us all and help us
in this country as we have a great
opportunity to call people to
Allah Azzawajal.
The book that we're studying,
al Jumain,
you know,
this important text on aqidah,
which is like a strong
welded
piece of steel that looks like a pearl.
Juman, Jumanah is a pearl, right?
Is going to now build our understanding of
Tawhid more. If you took the first text,
the text of Sheikh Ahmed ad Dardir
and
now we're moving on to the second text.
So we'll begin Insha'Allah
and I remind myself and you,
that we are sincere. I'm in more need
of this than anyone else.
My ear is closer to my mouth as
the brothers like to say and
ask Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala and
Insha'Allah.
I'm reading in Arabic just because my students
who study with me,
you don't have time to teach,
right? So, these kind of recorded
lessons allow people to follow along and then
allow me to scale, Alhamdulillah.
And of course he begins,
and
emulate in the
Quran. And we know
Allah Subhana Wa Ta'la in the Quran
that is from Sulaiman
and that it begins with the Basmala Bismillahir
Rahmanirrahim. This is the Sunan of the MBIA.
And the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said
that any
important issue that doesn't begin with the Basmala
Fahuwa
Aqta.
It's like amputated.
I mean it's not fully functional
in its ability to bring
edger.
And this is called
If I say to you
I wrote with the pen,
it's by of course the blessings of Allah
Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala and the permission of Allah
that the pen works, but I'm writing with
the pen.
So this is called so
Alhamdulillah.
He praises Allah. So not only did he
start with the Basmala, he starts with the
Hamdulillah and then in between
praise be to Allah whose existence
it does not accept non existence.
Wajibul Wajjud, the one who his existence
is a fact
and his non existence
is an impossibility. We can't believe that.
Who began creation
Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala
from nothing
Allah
Subhanahu
Wa
Ta'ala
created
all things. Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala created all
things.
So Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala is the one
who Badha'a Al Khalk
And this style of writing if you think
about it, what is he doing? Praise be
to Allah whose existence
is a fact, khalas,
who
began creation from nothing,
and then it will return back to him.
This is called
means that in the introduction the author
is alluding to the subject matter.
So form
of rhetoric.
And peace and blessings be upon our Master
Muhammad
The Prophet
said,
I am the best of all creation and
I'm not boasting. Al Qari Abu Bakr,
he said that the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi
Wasallam
said I'm not boasting
in case people who have evil in their
hearts would project like how could he say
that? How could he say he's the best
of creation?
Except those who know the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi
Wasallam
they will immediately have a good assumption of
the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam.
That's why some of our teachers used to
say that
the believers in Mecca,
they had the understanding of who was Muhammad
So when they saw Muhammad
they saw the Messenger of Allah,
but the disbelievers of Mecca
who grew up with the Prophet
and spent also time with the Prophet
because they did not have this understanding. Allah
had not opened their hearts
When they saw Muhammad
they saw Muhammad ibn Abdulla,
Muhammad the son of Abdullah. We ask Allah
to allow us to see Muhammad
Rasulullah
SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam.
So wasala to wa salaamu alaasyidina Muhammad
Prophet is a guide
from misguidance
in every single way. So Allah says
the form here in Surat Ashura I believe
is the imperfect tense
which implies that the Prophet is always a
guide
Alaihi salatu salam.
Always a guide.
Before his birth to those who knew about
him.
They know Him like to know their sons.
They were waiting on Him as Jesus
is quoting the Quran is saying, Mu bashiram
Birasuriya
teamimba'adis
muhu, Ahmed.
I give you the good news of the
Messenger after me, his name is Ahmed
and then of course during his lifetime he
is a great guide
and then after his
lifetime
he continues to be a guide. So before,
this realm,
he continues to be a guide
That's why Shawqi said
that
Jesus He caused the dead to come to
life by the will of Allah but you,
O Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam, you continue to
bring the dead to life generation after generation
with guidance. So Allah says
you are constantly a guide
from anything that will cause a person to
be astray.
So the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam
is the one that rescues people from disbelief
and ignorance. And if you're following along, well
Jahala
here is what's called Aftwa Tafsiriyyah. Any Kufra
and Jahala are the same thing?
Upon his family
who
were guides for the Ummah
and his companions also who were guides
for people in the Ummah.
Ummah. To continue,
He said this is a a short treaty
on the science of Tawhid,
almatawhid,
made in theology.
He's going to talk about specifically
3 components of theology.
Allah Prophethood, what's called
right,
the
unseen.
Some of my brothers, and here he means
students, and here he uses the word Ikhwan
to show the love
and affinity he has like the book of
Sayyidina Imam Al Ghazari Ayuh alwad almohib.
Actually he didn't write that to his son,
he wrote that to his student. My dear
beloved son actually is to his student,
but to show the love and affinity and
relationship
that existed between these people. It wasn't one
of power dynamics,
it wasn't one of exploitation,
it wasn't one of abuse, it was one
of subhanahu mahaaba or sohba
So he says, and I responded to this
request to write this text
in
theology
with its evidences,
hoping that
Allah will grant me His forgiveness.
We're going to stop here Insha'Allah. We'll continue
next time with the next part of the
text.
May Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala increase you and
bless you.
