Suhaib Webb – The Role of Fiqh

If we're to look at life as a

weight bar, there is so much weight on

the lives of Muslims right now militarily, politically,

economically, socially,

and we have to help each other. We

have to spot each other to be honest

with you to help us pull through.

But subhanAllah, one of the things that allows

us to stay balanced and not put too

much needed weight on that bar is the

science of filk, the science of mizan, the

science of measures, the science of balance, the

science of

that may sound strange because the post colonial

mind sees religious legislation

as an opportunity to be enslaved, limited and

restricted,

where Islam looks at filk as the science

of the emancipation

to be free from the gunyah,

to be free from unhealthy attachments so that

a person could be light and move quickly

in worshiping Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. That's why

the prophet said in the context of general

understanding, whoever Allah intends good for, he gives

them an understanding of religion.

Religion vis a vis the corrupt nature of

this dunya and its its corrosive impacts on

our lives that keeps us away from worshiping

Allah.
