Merciful, the most gracious
god almighty, Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
This name,
is is is is
one of the,
names that we often emphasize on.
I just want you to know in the
beginning
that the word
which we roughly translate into the merciful, the
beneficent
is also the same name biblically as Rahim.
The word Rahim which is translated
in Christian theology as the loving.
It has the same roots words. The same
three roots are Rahim.
So so this name is is is translated,
in in Muslim circles as the merciful, the
beneficent, or the merciful, the gracious,
but it's understood
as the loving one, Allah
In Surat Yunus, a verse 58,
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala say,
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala telling us the source
of love or the source of joy for
us as individuals
and as human beings. He said in Surat
Yunus verse 58,
we should we should celebrate the mercy or
the love of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
We should celebrate and rejoice the mercy and
the love of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. And
then he reminded us
that is better than anything that is materialistic
that you might want to collect.
So as people of faith, as people who
believe in Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala,
what we gather
and our savings accounts,
should be the mercy and the love of
Allah
wa ta'ala.
Is there a difference between
and quickly?
It looks like the verses in the Quran
differentiate between the merciful and the beneficent.
For instance, in Surat
verse 4 42,
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
In
verse 42, Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala tell us
that the word,
the merciful, is very general for everyone.
And
is very specific for the believers.
At 43.
So in, and be at 42, Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala say, who protects you in the
in the day and the night
except,
except the merciful. So so that's general for
everyone.
But then in Surah Al Ahazab verse 43,
Allah say,
he is gracious to the believers. He is
gracious to the believers.
That's why when people enter paradise Islamically in
verse 58, Surat Yaseen,
we say,
that the word Rahim is mentioned by the
believers when they enter into Jannah.
Rahma, the mercy of Allah
I want you to know
that
that we are as as individual, as a
human beings, I wanna I wanna talk about
rahma or mercy from the of Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala.
How important is
and mercy? How important for us to know?
And how is Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala tried
to communicate this name, this beautiful name to
us,
Arrahman Ar Rahim.
I want you to know
that creation Imagine in the beginning of creation,
Allah
says,
the
the the The beginning of Allah
when he created heavens and earth,
there was a tablet written.
And it's been said that on this tablets,
it starts with
in the name of Allah, the most merciful,
the most
So from the beginning even before creation,
Allah
wanted us to know that he's the merciful,
the
not only
that. It's been said
that,
this statement
Imagine everybody have a business slogan.
Right? Everybody have a business slogan. Right?
Allah
is teaching us that
which means my mercy surpasses my anger
or my love
surpasses my my my my wrath
is the slogan on the throne of Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala. So from the beginning
before creation, it
is As a matter of fact, you know,
pagan Arabs
did not know what's the word
means. Said we don't know.
This is an exaggeration
of love. This is an exaggeration of mercy.
That's why Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala said,
upon Allah upon,
the merciful
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
In Surah Al Arab, Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
say, my mercy, my love encompasses everything.
So there's mercy
all around us. I'm a tell you about
it in just a There's a mercy and
love of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is all
around us. But Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says,
verse 12. That Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala have
prescribed
upon himself mercy. That means it is part
of the essence of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
The
most mentioned name,
in in the Quran
after Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala is.
Number 2. So creation is number 1. This
is this is the relationship that Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala want to let us know that
his his in the creation of heavens and
earth, right, before creation of man,
there was mercy. Secondly,
when Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
created Adam.
At Thermavi relate that when Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala created Adam, humanity.
Right? When Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala created Adam,
Adam, peace be upon him,
was just molded
as Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala say throughout the
Quran.
That Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala have have installed
or have have have,
blew the soul in the in in in
Adam.
It has been said that the soul went
through the nose of Adam.
Adam was just a statue made out of
clay as we know, but then Allah
lovingly
lovingly,
out of the soul of Allah,
Adam
became human,
became, alive.
And then it's been said
that when the soul entered,
the body of Adam, peace be upon him,
the father of humanity,
Adam sneezed.
And the first the first the first thing,
when Adam sneezed, Allah
said to Adam,
This is when a Muslim sneeze. Right? We
normally say here in our culture, bless you
when somebody sneezes.
But then in in islam when somebody sneezes
say,
May Allah have mercy on you. So the
first thing Allah ever said to Adam, the
first communication
between Allah
the divine and humanity
was
May Allah may Allah have mercy
on you. But before that, Adam said,
that's what we do. When we sneeze, SubhanAllah,
when somebody sneeze, it's supposed to say, and
the people around them which means all praise
is due to Allah.
All praise is due to Allah. Right?
When somebody sneezes, it's kinda like bless you.
Right?
And then the people around him said,
May Allah have mercy on you. So the
first thing when Adam,
was animated and became
start to speak, the first thing we say
all praise is due Allah. Alhamdulillah.
So the our relationship with Allah is that
of praising Allah and Allah relationship with us
is that of mercy and of that of
love SubhanAllah.
So in the beginning of the creation
and in the beginning of creation of humanity,
mercy was there. And then the prophet Sallallahu
Alaihi Wasallam, he said, let me put the
creation
of humanity with the creation
of the universe that the prophet sallallahu alaihi
wasallam
connected this with one hadith. That the prophet
sallallahu alaihi wasallam
Allah created when he created heavens and earth,
a 100 mercy.
A 100. 100
percent. Right?
And then,
the prophet
remind us that those those layers of mercy,
a 100 layers of mercy
is so vast in between them trying to
describe the love of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala
for humanity.
As a matter of fact,
Allah the prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam,
continues that
only one part of that 100%
mercy came to Earth,
only one part.
And with that one part, the entire humanity
shares
that one part. All the animal kingdom share
that one part.
And then the prophet
relate the creation of man and the creation
of this universe
to the day of judgment.
Then he said the prophet sallam
that the prophet told us that the prophet
that that Allah
at the day of judgment,
he takes that one part of mercy and
he adds it to 99%
part of his mercy.
It becomes a 100% parts of mercy and
love at the day of judgment.
We emphasize quite a bit the day of
judgment, subhanAllah,
brothers and sisters in Islam, and it's and
and mercy
is emphasized.
Told us this beautiful analogy.
He said, if I was given between my
own mother and my own father at the
day of judgment,
and between Allah
I
will
choose
Allah
He said, if I was given a choice
between Allah and my own mother and father
at the day of judgment,
then I would choose Allah because Allah is
more merciful with me than my own mother
and father. Can you
imagine?
We cannot do anything wrong
as children.
Our mother loves us unconditionally.
Our father loves us unconditionally.
As a matter of fact, you know, I
often tell people that our relationship with our
mother
is maternal,
and our relationship
with our father is paternal,
but our relationship with Allah is
eternal.
We need to know that
the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said, No one
would enter paradise at the day of judgment
except with the mercy of Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala.
And that they asked the prophet
not even you prophet of Allah. Not even
the prophet some of the Muhammadu alaihi wasallam.
So
in the Quran,
there's a 114 chapters in the Quran
and all a 114
chapter starts in the name of
chapters out of a 114
chapter starts in the name of Allah most
merciful,
most beneficent.
There's only one that doesn't start
with,
but but a but a reminder of the
slogan of Allah
in the universe,
in the creations of heavens and earth, in
the creation of humanity,
in in in the revelation of the Quran
in the month of Ramadan, the month of
mercy
As a matter of fact, there's only one
chapter in the Quran that is named after
the 99 attributes of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
and that is Surah Al Rahman. The chapter
that talks
about arrahman. And the Quran,
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
Quran, Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala say, call upon
Allah or call upon the merciful.
So is this is is is is this
is this enough emphasis to know that in
this universe
was created out of love, out of mercy?
Humanity was created out of love and out
of mercy.
Within humanity,
we have mercy
That is only one part of the 100
parts of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala's mercy.
That the Quran itself
on the on on the throne of Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala is that of mercy. The
day of judgment is a 100 parts of
mercy. The Quran itself, a 113 chapter starts
with the with mercy.
And, in the Quran itself, Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala
remind us that to call upon his beautiful
name,
that is mercy
all
around.
We are surrounded with mercy as human being.
We are cloaked with mercy. We are cloaked
with love.
For in for instance, subhanAllah.
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala in Surah Al Qasas
verse 73.
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala say, look at the
love and the mercy that Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala divided the day into day
and night.
And today and night where,
you work and labor during the day and
you rest during the night, subhanAllah. That is
out of the mercy of Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala, The universal mercy of Allah Subhanahu Wa
Ta'ala.
Number 2,
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala Allah made things that
are necessary
in this universe. Allah
made things necessary in this universe
free,
I wanna say. Right?
And nobody controls it.
Imagine if somebody controls the oxygen. Imagine if
somebody controls the sunshine.
Imagine if somebody controls
the rain cycle or all all of that
Imagine this is the rahmah of Allah Subhanahu
Wa Ta'ala. The mercy of Allah Subhanahu Wa
Ta'ala to his humanity.
After all, Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala
in the
Quran always addresses humanity.
Oh, mankind. Oh, mankind.
And, Allah remind that he is Al Khalik.
That he is the creator.
As as as as a as a as
an essence that is our relationship with Allah
is eternal. That he brought us from nonexistence
to existence.
That the Quran teaches us that Allah asked
the angels to prostrate
in a front of humanity,
that Allah
molded us, that Allah
installed the soul in us, then Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala cloaked us with mercy.
Whether it is the division of the day
and night
or the simple fact that he made everything
in this universe
that is necessary for life
free.
Can you imagine if somebody
if somebody controls the oxygen
and somebody makes me mad? Imagine if I
control the oxygen
and and somebody makes me mad. SubhanAllah. What
would I do?
Allah, Allah out of his mercy made everything
necessary for life,
a part of that.
Number 3,
SubhanAllah.
Ever look at
the rain as a mercy from Allah
Allah 28,
remind us that Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala send
the rain. Water. We say water is
life.
Allah said, from water we made everything,
every living thing. This rain, the cycle of
rain. Allah remind us in the Quran how,
the cycle of rain, how how how the
how the ocean is evaporated
and how,
the clouds become. And Allah
bring that
evaporation from salty water into sweet water.
Look at the creation of Allah
how he revives the earth. This is in
Surat Ar Rum
verse 50.
Number 4,
Allah,
This is just the universe. Let's look at
human beings. Allah
have made,
you know, us as a human being, we
have families. That's a mercy from Allah Subhanahu
wa ta'ala.
This Ramadan,
you know. SubhanAllah. As you're living, you're sitting
down on
your dining table, and eating
your dinner with friends and family. See the
the mercy
of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.
Our mother, our fathers, this is called mercy
from
subhanahu wa ta'ala.
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala remind us in Hadith
Al Qudsi.
He said, Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala say, I
am
the merciful.
And Allah called the womb
of a mother
That means that word is extracted from the
word
the merciful SubhanAllah.
Out of out of the mercy of Allah
Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala, he remind us
that in joining,
on our family
and and and and and having,
a good kin relationship with Allah
with with our kin folks is like having
a good relationship with Allah.
And, that's our support
group, our friends, our families,
our mother and father.
That's out of the mercy of Allah Subhanahu
Wa Ta'ala that he created all these supports
group to be with us.
Can I tell you something? Often, I go
to the hospitals and to visit the sick,
And, you know, I I I've seen sometimes
people at ICU
with sometimes no one.
As Muslims,
when I go visit somebody who's Muslim, there's
all kind of families there. Sometimes, actually, I
see you have to kick some of those
people out.
The prophet tell
us that Allah
that Allah is more merciful with us than
Allah than than our own mother. So mother
is is a template of love and mothers
are templates of mercy in the Quran.
And the prophet
used that as a measuring stick for mercy.
Number 4 or 5, Allah
is
merciful,
especially
Allah is reminding
us that his mercy
encompasses that Allah forgive
our sins.
58. Allah
is the most forgiven.
We need as a human being a reset
button.
We need repentance.
We need to know that Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala,
is very merciful with us and able and
capable
and willing to forgive and accept our repentance.
And by knowing so
that Allah
is forgiving,
we know that Allah
is
all around us cloak us with mercy.
Another point that there is mercy,
between,
you know, there's Allah
created
marriage.
Allah
actually in Surah Torun verse 21, he said,
I
said, among the signs of Allah
that he created for your spouses
in order to dwell in tranquility through them,
and he planted in your hearts love and
mercy.
For us, prophet Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam, another
point is a mercy.
The prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam would describe in
the Quran,
The Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam in Surat Anbiya
verse 107 that he was send as a
mercy to mankind.
And the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam,
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala in Surat Alai Imran
159, he said,
Oh, prophet Muhammad, you have mercy to mankind.
Oh, prophet Muhammad,
the mercy of Allah has bestowed upon you,
and you are you are showing the mercy,
to the people,
around you.
Indeed, my dear respected brothers and sisters in
Islam,
that was the dua of the prophet
to
be merciful,
to be merciful.
Ask Allah
to make him more
merciful.
To finish,
how can I live with this name?
I'm gonna give a few advises
Number 1,
if you have parents,
be merciful with your parents. If your parents
are,
Allah
Subhanahu
Wa
Ta'ala
say,
verse 24,
lower your wings of mercy
or lower your wings of humility to your
parents. That's how you show mercy to your
parents. So Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala will have
mercy on you.
Your king folks, your family, your extended family.
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala said,
The prophet said, the mercy will not be
stowed on a person or on a on
a community.
And if that community is engaged in not
having good relationship with their kinfolks. So, having
good relationship with your kinfolks
will give you the mercy of Allah. Having
good relationship with your parents will give you
the mercy of Allah
Have good relationship with your spouses. The prophet
sallallahu alaihi wa sallam he said, Raheemallahu rajul.
Allah will have a mercy on a man
that wakes up in the middle of the
night and wakes his wife up for prayers.
Generally speaking,
the prophet said,
have mercy on the people of earth and
the one on heavens will have mercy on
you.
The prophet said, if you don't show mercy
on others, why would how would mercy would
be shown to you? Love others if you
wanna be loved. Forgive others if you wanna
be forgiven
and be merciful to others
if you want the mercy of Allah Subhanahu
wa ta'ala.
Most importantly, in the Ramadan,
remember that the Quran is a mercy from
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
Read Quran,
understand it, know it,
and live it.
May Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala make us among
those who listen to the speech and follow
the best of it.
Please, please be merciful to others this month
of Ramadan
and be loving to others. So, Allah would
be merciful with you and loving with you.
