Suhaib Webb – The History of alNawwawi’s Forty Hadith Collection

			Before we continue our discussion on the first
		

			hadith,
		

			I think it's very important that you understand
		

			the history of this text.
		

			This text was not
		

			solely written by Imam An Nawawi. In fact,
		

			someone before him started it. He added to
		

			it, and then someone after him completed it.
		

			So Abu Amr ibn Salah, one of the
		

			great, great scholars of the science of Hadith,
		

			perhaps wrote one of the most important later
		

			texts
		

			on the science of Hadith.
		

			He was in the area of Damascus. He
		

			preceded Imam An Nawawi chronologically.
		

			And he he began to compose a text,
		

			which he felt were the foundational Hadith of
		

			Islam.
		

			So he wrote 26
		

			like he compiled 26 excuse me, a hadith
		

			and he began to teach them. And his
		

			halakah was called
		

			You know, the the halaqa of the foundational
		

			hadith.
		

			When he passed away, Sayna Imam An Nawawi
		

			came and continued
		

			collecting hadith, which he felt fell under this
		

			idea of alqulia
		

			until he reached 42.
		

			Then after Saydna, Imam and Nawawi came Al
		

			Hafath ibnurajib
		

			Al Hambali,
		

			who added 8 more ahadith. So the total
		

			was 50.
		

			And in fact,
		

			amongst the people who know the book is
		

			actually called Al Khamsin
		

			Al
		

			soon al Rajabiya. Because the imam said that
		

			imam,
		

			ibnur Rajib al Half of he's the one
		

			who actually
		

			finished it
		

			up until 50.
		

			It's important for you to know that man
		

			that that there is a great history and
		

			look at the cooperation and the fact that
		

			you have these 3 brilliant
		

			minds sifting through these Hadith,
		

			extracting them
		

			from the the gold mine of Hadith literature
		

			until they reach these 50 foundational
		

			hadith.
