Suhaib Webb – The Great Journey Treasures from Hadith Imam
AI: Summary ©
The speakers discuss the importance of reading and affirming Islam, including verifying witness and affirming the presence of God. They stress the importance of testing one's witnessing and affirming in order to be considered a winner of Islam. The speakers also emphasize the importance of praying with family members and bringing their own experiences to the conversation. The conversation ends with a recommendation for a book on the Valentine's Day celebrations and a discussion of teaching children to take ownership of their religious responsibility.
AI: Summary ©
We praise Allah
We send peace and blessings upon,
our beloved messenger, Muhammad
upon his family, his companions,
and those who follow them until the end
of time.
I hope everybody is doing awesome.
It's been a busy week for me,
and I know a lot of friends I've
been talking to.
Hassan,
and Omar
have been, like, super busy. So tonight, we're
gonna keep it rather brief, but we we
appreciate all the love.
So we try to
meet now biweekly
to continue to read
this text,
of Sheikh Abdul Adaras.
We finished about a third of the book,
and
it's a good book, man. It's a good
book to be exposed to, especially in a
time of great destabilization.
In a time where there's a lot of
things happening, it's good to come together and
read hadith,
and reflect on on,
the guidance of the prophet, sallallahu alaihi. So
we should ask ourselves as a Muslim community,
when we look at our cultural production, our
economic production, and our political production,
what is really kind of the source and
motivation of our thoughts?
What is, if you will, the ore of
our thinking?
So the more that we expose ourselves to
the teachings of al Islam through the Quran
and through hadith of the prophet, the more
we are exposed, right,
to to proper thinking.
So
after talking about revelation
in the opening chapter and then mentioning,
numerous hadith
that teach us about how revelation started, how
it happened,
how the prophet
passed on the Quran and the hadith to
his companions.
Sheikh Abdul Duraz then moves into the next
chapter, which is on haqqiqat al iman wadeen,
right, which is on faith in Islam.
And oftentimes, what I've noticed is when I
read these hadith to people, even born Muslims,
they are
unaware of some of the things found in
these beautiful hadith,
So every other week, we gather together to
read this book, actually, doctor Mustafa Imara,
was one of my teachers,
who was a teacher in hadith I read
to,
he advised me to teach this book in
English years ago,
maybe 7 years ago.
And as I mentioned before, this book is
actually the summary,
This is the summary of Imam al Zubaydi's,
summary of the book originally written by Imam
Iba Athir, which is, like, 14 volumes.
Zubaydee's volume is 4 volumes, and now this
one, is
just one volume.
Thank you, guys. Really appreciate
all the love and the nice comments, man.
It's very good, alhamdulillah. So today we'll read
1 hadith, insha Allah, offer a little bit
of a brief explanation. If you have, like,
non Muslim friends,
you may wanna ask them to come and
listen, because we're gonna talk about things, especially
if they're Christian,
that are,
gonna be important for them. And if you
know people who are interested in embracing Al
Islam,
that's good. And then you yourself, you wanna
listen so you can be an advocate. Right?
So that you can be an advocate for
Islam. Also, next week, Inshallah at Swiss, we're
gonna be starting a class on Saturday morning,
10:30
eastern time
with, Ustadhah Jinan Yousef, who's gonna be teaching
her book Reflections on the Name of Allah.
Subhanahu wa ta'ala.
That book is available in Amazon, published through
Al Buruj Press, but she's gonna start teaching
that next Saturday at Swiss. So if you're
interested, you can enroll,
as Suhay Badriqah.
So here we go, Anhuqaan Anubaredt
Nussamit.
And we know that he
he witnessed both of the Aqabas,
and he was in the battle of Badr
And he was from those who actually memorized
the Quran
in the time of the prophet
alaihi wasallam. Ubada ibn Samit
And we find in the collections of Imam
Abu Hari
and Imam Muslim, Tin Hadith from Ubada ibn
Aswamat radiAllahu an.
And
he lived an incredible life.
He he died in Philistine.
You know, Abadat and the Samet is actually
buried in Philistine,
and he died there around 34
after Hijri.
34 years after the migration of the prophet,
sallallahu alaihi wa sallam. And he says a
hadith, wallahi, it should allow each and every
one of us to truly appreciate that Allah
has guided us to Islam.
Alhamdulillah.
He says,
I haven't I haven't talked about this before.
But in in the science of hadith, when
a Sahabi says,
this means that they are quoting the prophet
verbatim.
Different than than than
or or
or he
says
This means now that they are quoting
from the prophet
word for
word. He says,
What a beautiful hadith.
Especially,
we live in a time
where everybody is making
Muslims angry
amongst Muslims. Like, everyone is making Muslims sad.
The the slant of dawah is let's make
Muslims feel bad about themselves, and somehow feeling
bad about themselves
will somehow reignite
the ummah.
But this is a disaster.
Allah, subhanahu wa ta'ala, said to the prophet
in Mecca, wa bashiril mumini.
Make the believers happy.
Bring them joy. Salallahu alaihi wa sallam. And
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala,
he said in Surat Baqarah wa bashir I
sabiri to the people in in Medina,
you know, tell them, bring them good news.
Of course, the good news is conditioned.
But but subhanAllah, in a community which is
being attacked by Islamophobes,
Islamophobes
is the
the
the the commodification of hate,
the ability to to create
financial rumination,
remuneration for people who hate Muslims.
You can become a millionaire. One time a
person told me, if you're apostate and left
Islam, we can make you a millionaire. I
was like, what are you talking about? What
what how do you think we actually believe
in our religion, man. Like, we actually believe
in our religion.
But but there is a hatred directed towards
Muslims
in entertainment,
in military invasions of the Muslim world, the
continued aggression in Muslim in the Muslim world.
We see that there's a hatred for Muslim
in so many places.
So
why in the name of trying to motivate
Muslims,
would you as a Muslim wanna make them
feel bad?
That is
counterproductive.
There is certainly a time to hold people
accountable. There is a discipline involved,
but
also then make people happy.
That's why Abdullah ibn Awar, he mentioned the
foolishness of of people who use verses in
the Quran
that talk about the Kufar and tell the
Muslims that these verses are talking about them.
This is a disaster. In fact, it's a
sign of the khawarij.
So here, masha'Allah,
listen to this hadith.
Listen to how beautiful this hadith is, and
the next few hadith that we're going to
read
should really cause you to feel, like, special,
not in an arrogant way, but, like, humble
to Allah
and appreciative that Allah, subhanahu wa ta'ala, has
chose you to be someone who has faith
in their hearts and has the correct faith.
The prophet, sallallahu alaihi wa sallam, has said,
Man, listen to this. And if you feel,
as you're listening, like you're overcome by evil,
you made serious mistakes, you slipped. Man, we
all make mistakes, man.
We all make mistakes.
If you if you if you sinned in
ways that you feel, you know, like really,
really burdened by them, just do me a
favor. Just say.
Just say that
and say it from your heart
because listen to this hadith.
He
said that the prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam
has said, whoever
shaheedah. The word shaheed means 2 things.
If I say it,
in the context of, like, a phrase like
shahid to Ramadan,
then that means that I witnessed something. Right?
Shahid 2 hilalah
Ramadan. I witnessed
the
moon, you know, the sighting of the moon
for Ramadan.
I saw I I I was there when
Suhaib was at his house.
That's why some time times people make it,
an error in translation. I say disrespectfully,
translation is not easy. But they translate
it as witness,
but it's not witness.
When we use the word shahida with a
clause or with a phrase, it carries the
meaning of Al Iqurar.
Al Iqurar means that I affirm.
We say in Islamic law,
To admit something
to admit to something is the best evidence.
So when I say
it means I was present when the when
the moon was spotted.
But if I said
this means now I affirm.
I admit
that there is nothing except Allah.
That is a worth that is worthy of
worship. So here when we say
I affirm
and I admit that there's nothing in existence
worthy of worship but Allah. And that means
the following. That number 1, each and every
one of us are responsible for learning.
Each and every one of us are responsible
for learning. Because in order for me to
admit something, I have to know it.
I have to bear witness to it.
So the hadith says, and
also that means responsibility on me. I can't
I can't live my religion through others.
I can't live religion through my culture. I
can't live religion through great parents or ancestors.
I am
responsible
for my faith.
The prophet
said every soul is in charge of itself.
Either they will sell it in in into
the dunya or they will free it.
So everyone's
responsible. Nobody nobody else
can do the job for you and me.
I am
testifying to this.
In order for me to testify and affirm
it, I have to know it.
Also, if I if I believe something and
I I affirm it, then I have to
spread it.
Masha'Allah. So
Allah says
Allah says don't hide
your witness. This is specifically talking about in
a court case. Right?
But you and I as Muslims, the prophet
that you all as Muslims, your job is
to bear witness to Allah
on earth.
When we hide our religion
and we get scared and mute ourselves,
and we don't implicitly I'm not saying explicitly,
but we don't show the the light of
the religion from our character and how we
carry ourselves,
we are making kitaman of the shahara.
We are not giving the witness that we
know about.
So he says,
who testifies that there's nothing in existence
worth worthy of worship in truth except Allah.
The one who has no
likeness and no partners and no associates.
Meaning that nothing is like Allah's names, nothing
is like Allah's attributes, and nothing engages
in the actions of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
That shirk.
And the word Muhammad
Who's the thief?
The prophet said the thief is the one
who hears my name and doesn't send salawat
upon me.
And the prophet salawat alayhi wasalam said, man,
salawat alayhi, a shala, whoever sends peace and
blessings upon me, Allah
will send 10 peace and blessings upon them.
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala commands us to make
salawat upon the prophet
So the verse says that Allah, the angels,
and the believers send peace and blessings upon
the prophet.
So that's why one of our teachers said
if you wanna be angelic,
send salawat upon the prophet, sallallahu alaihi wa
sallam. And Allah Subhanahu alaihi
wa sallam,
If you sin salawat upon the prophet
Allah will take you from
darknesses to light. Subhanu'Allah. Subhanu'Allah.
And and this is something that we should
have as a regular spiritual practice.
Every day, we should be sending salawat upon
Sayna Muhammad,
salallahu alayhi wasalam and saying.
The prophet
said. The best thing that I said and
the prophets before me said is.
The second is Sarawat alasayni Rasulillah,
sallallahu alaihi wasalam,
as much as we can because, masha'Allah, there
are so many numerous
blessings associated
with sending peace and blessings upon the prophet.
When I feel down, instead of jumping and
looking online or looking at my phone, let
me sit and make salawat. Watch the difference.
Watch the difference this week, I challenge you.
When you feel down, when you feel overcome
by something, you wanna jump on on your
phone and look and see what other people
are doing, and that just makes you feel
worse about yourself because you're not doing what
they're doing. Don't do that.
That's making of the dunya.
Instead,
sit down,
take some time out, and make salawat. Say
La'illa Hilalah
and salawat to Adasay Nabasulillah.
See the difference.
See the difference. And the more you do
this,
especially saying
and sending salawat upon the prophet, your heart,
inshallah, will be illuminated,
and you will feel less
need to be dependent
on the dunya.
The emancipation
Whoever does this,
they testify
that there's nothing in existence worthy of worship
by Allah. And that Muhammad salallahu alaihi wasalam
is
Abu Huwarsuru,
the slave of Allah and the messenger of
Allah.
The slave of Allah, meaning that the best
Ibad, the best person. If you want to
see how to worship Allah, look at Muhammad
The word Muhammad
is from the word
We teach 4 aspects of Arabic,
grammar,
morphology,
rhetoric, and literature.
Literature is very important.
Right? So you understand the meanings of the
words.
So that the deeper the deeper you understand
the words, the deeper you can contextualize
Islam into your life.
So Mohammed
is the one who
is doing things
that demand the praise of others consistently.
That is the prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam.
His character,
his morality,
his fidelity,
his integrity,
sallallahu alaihi wa sallam,
it it
demands praise.
Now let's ask ourselves as the followers of
Muhammad. Let me ask myself
as a as a father,
as a husband.
Am I doing things that my child sees
me as Mohammed?
Meaning literally, does my daughter or my children
see me, my oldest, and my son? Do
they see me as someone who's worthy of
praise? Does my wife see me as someone
worthy? This is one of the secrets of
why our our prophet, his name is Muhammad,
sallallahu alaihi wa sallam. Because each and every
one, we have to ask ourselves,
Although although we cannot be Muhammad,
we cannot be Muhammad, alayhis salaam,
but as his followers, the people around us,
what they say, you know what? This person
this person
is a person who,
Masha'allah,
is someone who deserves praise,
is someone who deserves attention.
Now
me as the follower, am I Muhammad?
Let me ask my spouse. Let me ask
my coworkers. Let me ask my kids. You
know, am I someone that inspires others?
And that's one of the seer
Abu
because he's the perfect
worshiper.
If anyone wants to know how to worship
Allah
that's why Allah in the Quran calls him
over and over.
The best name anyone can have is Abdullah.
But how many of us who are Abdul
Dunya, Abdul Instagram,
Abdul TikTok, Abdul Snapchat, Abdul YouTube, Abdul
Abdul Clubhouse,
Abdul Nas,
and Abdullah.
You know what? One of the most important
signs of being the servant of Allah is
freedom.
The opposite of what people think.
Because
the person who truly
finds
joy in being the servant of Allah or
obeying Allah
is free of the the lowliness
of this world.
Subhanallah.
Subhanallah.
That's why Al Busti, you know, he says
something
very nice. He said, you know,
Oh, you who seek to build a broken
down home.
You trying to find profit in something that
was created broken is the dunya.
Like, trying to
be overly
attached and unhealthily
attached to the dunya, al Busti, the great
poet, is saying is like trying to build
a house that's already dilapidated.
So you should work, he says, on your
heart and cultivate its best qualities because it's
your heart, not this outer stuff that makes
you a person,
that truly makes you human.
So the prophet Abdul,
Abdullah,
how can I know if I'm a good
at Abdullah? By the choices I make.
It's not complicated.
By the choices I make.
Is the one Allah sent with faith and
with Sharia.
And we know the prophet is Khatam al
Ambiya.
And the hadith continues and
that Isa, whoever
affirms that Isa,
affirms that Jesus, although there was no j
in his language, this came later,
is the servant, the slave of Allah and
his messenger.
And the word of God. And what does
it mean by the word of God? Is
that saying, Nisa, was created by
Most of us all of human beings except
Sayyidina Adam were created what we see through
with parents.
Right?
But Sayyidina Isa Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala kun
Allah.
Mariam
who was delivered to say to Mariam.
This is in the Quran. What does it
mean?
The from God? Sometimes we see some Christian
apologetics
that try to say, see, even
your text say that Jesus was the spirit
from God.
Well,
you know,
when the the roosters leave, the chickens became
the rooster. Let's say so we can say
about that interpretation, man.
When LeBron when LeBron leaves, everyone start balling.
Right? So you're gonna step in and try
to tell us what our own religion is
saying about our self. This is appropriation. This
is spiritual gentrification.
You know, insanity.
But what we know is that in Surat
Al Araf, this is in the Quran
when he created all of creation,
all human beings.
And he said to all of creation,
am I not your lord? And they said
yes.
And then we know that all those ruah,
right, they were it was decreed that they
will be, you know, the offspring of Adam
through this parent, through this parent, through this
parent. That's why one of the beautiful tafsir
of ibn Abbas
means Allah taught Adam all of our names,
like our names, the names of his family,
the names of his offspring,
except one.
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala kept that ruh
to be placed in his mother
when Allah
said, and this is Sayyidina Isa That's
why he's called
Another really interesting point mentioned by Sayidna Imam
al Sayyuti
is that
according to most books of theology, you know,
there's a debate about who is the greatest
Sahabi. Even amongst the Sunnis, the early Sunnis,
there was a debate, who's the greatest Sahabi?
This is the issue Hdi had.
Although the majority of Sunnis say, Sayyiduna Abu
Bakr.
You have also some Sunnis who say, Sayyidna
Ali.
But what's interesting
is Imam al Sayyuti says the best Sahabi
is Issa.
Because we we know that the majority of
theologians believe Isa, he he didn't die.
Right?
Meaning I made you sleep.
Put him in a state of of slumber.
And raised you.
Saydna imam Asiyuti says since Saydna Isa didn't
die,
and on the night of Isra and Mi'raj,
Sayidina Nabi, sallallahu alaihi wa sallam, he met
Sayidina Isa.
He met all the prophets,
and they prayed behind him. All the other
prophets had passed away, Well, only one of
them was still alive, and this was Sayyidina
Isa. Thus, Sayyidina Isa,
he saw,
masha'Allah, the prophet while he was alive.
He prayed behind the prophet salallahu alaihi wasalam.
So that means he believed in him.
So sayna, Imam,
Abdulrahman Sayyuti, he says,
Jalaruddin Sayyuti, he says, that the greatest Sahabi
is Isa, Allahu Akbar.
Subhanallah, what a what a an idea.
Masha'Allah.
Because he met the prophet while he was
alive. He believed in the prophet while he
was alive, and he will die as a
Muslim.
So he said, according to him, masha'Allah,
Sayidna Isa
is the greatest Sahami. Then here's the beautiful
part. Here's why I said if you feel
that you're drowning in sin, say
because the prophet said
Whoever says this,
whoever testifies to this, whoever affirms this,
that Muhammad is the servant and messenger of
Allah, and that Isa is the servant and
messenger of Allah, and the and the and
the the command of God given to Miriam
and the spirit dispensed by God, and that
Jannah is true, and that * is true.
Allah will enter this person into Jannah.
No matter what they did in this life.
Allah will enter you,
that person,
into Jannah
no matter what they did.
SubhanAllah.
So let's say it together. I'll say it.
You can repeat after me.
Now we can say it in English. For
people who cannot say it in Arabic, that's
okay.
I testify
that there's nothing in existence worthy of worship
by Allah.
One with no partners.
And I testify that Muhammad
sallallahu
alaihi wa sallam is a servant of Allah
and his messenger,
and that Isa is a servant of Allah
and his messenger,
and the command of Allah given to Mary,
and the spirit dispensed by Allah,
and that paradise is true, and that *
is true. Masha'Allah.
If you said this,
and if I said this with sincerity,
to give us Jannah. This hadith
This hadith is related by a Bukhari and
Muslim
Wasayna Tiramizi.
Before we finish, we
take your questions.
This hadith actually, Sheikh Sheikh Abdulah Mohammed Abdullah
Duraz. He says something very beautiful, masha'Allah,
that I want to share with you. Masha'Allah,
masha'Allah. I see some of our Swiss students
in the house too.
Sheikh Mohammed Abdul Adrazz, he says
He said that in this one narration, the
prophet
has
brought together
the foundations
of religion
that is going to
cause someone to be successful in the hereafter.
You know what's scary?
One time, inshallah, I was teaching this, and
I read these hadith,
a hadith, and somebody came to me who
was born Muslim.
2 people actually. And they said, if we
say
and strive
in this life to be be be decent
Muslims, We can go to Jannah?
Absolutely. What what did you think? That the
struggle was for nothing?
Wallahi, my advice to
content providers
and people teaching religion,
because not everybody should be teaching, but it
is what it is. If you're out there
and you are advising people
and guiding people, if you get to the
point that you have taught the Muslims
such that they lose hope
in Allah in entering Jannah, you're a disaster.
You're a disaster.
And this hadith is related by Buhari and
Muslim.
When I post this on the IG page,
I'll put the hadith for you.
So he says sheikh Mohammed Abdullah Jaraz
That the prophet
in this narration
is bringing together 3 foundations
of faith that are going to lead to
salvation in the next life.
Now he says something so nice.
He said, and that these foundations that will
give you success in the hereafter
are only 3.
Yeah. Hello. Only 3?
Just I need to, like, learn and live
3 things?
That's easy that's easier than keto.
You know what I'm saying? That's easier than
keto.
That's easier to learn how to play warzone
on call of duty.
That's easier than, you know, keeping up with
whatever I'm just I need to learn and
live and struggle with 3 things throughout my
life. These three things should be
the constants of our life. They should be
what drives us, what sets
our focus in our life.
And what are those three things? And then
we'll finish
for tonight.
Allah. The first is knowing Allah.
Allah. You wanna write this down.
That studying about God and studying about Allah,
his attributes,
his power, his authority
In Sunni,
classical Sunni Sunni pedagogy is called.
The second,
Here comes our atheist friends. You know, love
you, atheist guys. You're so cute.
Atheists, you know, it's always funny when the
atheist says,
m f u, go to blah blah blah
blah blah. They start dropping more cuss words,
you know what I'm saying, than you could
ever imagine. And then they're like, I don't
need religion.
Yeah. Okay. And religion don't need you.
You know what I'm saying? Like,
obviously, you're hurting,
and, obviously, we live in your brain rent
free. Like religious people, especially Muslims,
We occupy
a space in Richard Dawson's brain
rent free. We have a penthouse
in Richard Dawson's brain.
I do not think about Richard Dawson.
The only time I may think about him
is if I had some really, really spicy
nahari.
That's about it. You know what I'm saying?
Or or, like, yeah.
You know, I'm going through some serious
gastro pain,
but I don't sit around at night and,
like, yo, what are the atheists up to?
Yeah. Let me go on the atheist guy's
Instagram page and start cussing them out, and
then I can tell them how awesome Islam
is because I'm so
intellectually
astute.
I'm so intellectually astute.
I'm such a refined,
Eurocentric,
closet, white supremacist
clown,
But I don't need religion.
Hold on. I'll put a little bit on
here. I'll be like, really? Really? That's what
it is.
So tonight, we had 3 guests.
The only thing that you've done
in your refined
behavior,
your refined behavior,
if you've affirmed in our hearts that you
are absolutely
baqwas,
and I'll let my brothers and sisters who
know what baqwas is
translate baqwas.
The only thing that the atheists have done
by showing up on Instagram tonight
has reaffirmed for us that they are absolutely
successfully on falsehood.
Just keep at it, bro. You just strengthen
our faith. Every time you drop a f
bomb, it's like, I feel my iman like
blah.
It's a faith bomb. For you, it's a
f bomb.
For me,
it's a faith bomb.
Yeah.
Mhmm.
Because you're so refined.
You're so refined that instead of being at
some kind of refined event,
you here us out.
I mean, if we weren't here right now,
I'm sure we all got something we could
do.
Anyways,
back to the story. So
The second is
The second component of foundational
arqidah and faith is to believe in those
things that teach us about God, act as,
you know, educators.
That means angels, prophets,
and books.
Angels, prophets, and books. So that's the second
thing. When the prophet said, you know, whoever
testifies, la ilaha illallah, this is the first.
When
he
says
Now he's talking about the second.
Prophet's books and messengers
and angels.
And then the
3rd,
So
three areas that make up the
foundational beliefs of Muslims.
1st is
The second is
prophets,
and the third
are those things which we call also
the unseen.
Why are they called
actually answers the question someone just asked in
Araby, one of our dear brothers. He said,
He said, what is the first obligation upon
not Muslims, but on people is to think?
Right? We know that the first obligation upon
every Muslim is to think.
So, halla, this is agreed upon the majority
of ahlif sunnah.
And that's why this is called some yet.
Why is it called some yet? Because you
have to hear it. If I hear something,
what do I have to do before I
can affirm it? I hear it, and then
what do I do? Thank you, Noble, and
thank you for for, Yusuf,
Habibi
for for,
typing it. So
I have to affirm it.
So as I finish,
and we'll stop here, and we'll take any
questions.
Looks like the atheist bounced.
Peace out, man.
Don't let the screen hit you on the
backside.
This hadith of the prophet says
from Abu Bari n Usamat, whoever affirms that
there is no god except Allah,
and that Muhammad the one without partners, that
Muhammad is the servant and messenger of Allah,
that Isa is the servant and messenger of
Allah, and the command of a of of
God
sent to Mary, and the
spirit dispatched by God, and that * is
true and heaven is true.
This person will be entered into Jannah regardless
of what they've done. Any
questions?
If you have any questions, again, next week
on Saturday at 10:30 AM EST,
we're starting a class at SWISS with Justezza
Jinen.
She is, masha'Allah, incredible,
on her book, The Reflections on the Names
of Allah. What a great way to get
ready for Ramadan. Right? You step into Ramadan.
You're having, like, a nice, fresh understanding of
the names of Allah. This will, alhamdulillah,
really help you. I sent you 2 emails
reaching out regarding a question I asked. Forgive
me. I'm so busy, man.
Even if you look at, like, social media,
man, I'm not even there, bro. I got
kids and bills.
Oh, sorry. Sorry,
sister.
Kids and bills.
Kids and bills. You know what I mean?
I have not watched WandaVision yet. I have
not watched, WandaVision yet. I have not watched
WandaVision yet. No.
No. No.
I'm watching something else, but I'm not gonna
tell you what it is
because I I may lose my job.
Any other questions
or comments
before,
I let you guys go? Always a pleasure
to see
you, and spend some time with you every
other week. Hopefully, in the future, we can
pick it up,
to every week,
but we got things to do.
I heard Soul is good, man. I haven't
had a chance. I I don't have time,
you know, to yeah. I know what to
tell you. We gotta get that filming going,
man.
Just just forgive me. If those of you
reached out, who responded,
it's not it's nothing personal, man. You know,
just just busy.
Florida, one day, when the when the pandemic
settles, hadith book represent recommendation. The 40 hadith
of Imam Manawi is good.
The 40 hadith. If someone can just live
the 40 hadith of Imam Manawi,
what else do you need, man? Just live
the first 3 or 4 hadith from the
hadith
collection of the 40 hadith of Sayna Imam
Anawi.
Do you recommend?
No. I don't I don't recommend that. I
don't recommend that.
Any other any other questions? I I recommend
the Quran.
Take your from the Quran.
Christians made Jesus a part of the trinity
as son of God. Some say they made
angel Gabriel yeah.
I mean, the Christians were influx until around
400 years up after Christ. Right? You have
in 2 40,
you know, this idea that Christ is human
and and that Christ Christ is sacred, then
you have others, Nestorian Christians, who don't believe
that. I mean, it was never just one
belief.
So that that that itself is very,
you know, it's an interesting history.
I like being alone. Do you think it's
good? I don't know what do you mean
by being alone. You know, there there certainly
can be value to being alone, but the
prophet
the authentic hadith says this prophet forbid us
from being perpetually alone,
right, to, like, live
in a in a,
you know,
away from people and just, like, live in
a cave.
I want to marry a Muslim convert, but
his family is not Muslim. They're Christian. Is
it concern for my parents? I think it's
a you know, I'm a convert, so I
think that's a realistic concern that can be
addressed,
Safa. And first, we pray that you your
your marriage works out. You know, we pray
that it it works out for you, and
that you get
the the, you know, good husband, and he
gets a good good wife. May Allah bless
you both. That's beautiful.
But at the same time, you know, you
wanna make sure that there's communication between your
parents and his parents. Their parents may be
the greatest people in the world. Sometimes Muslim
parents are crazy too.
You know what I mean? So you you
wanna you wanna make sure there's healthy communication
happening. And then you guys should go to
premarital counseling. Very important. Not not the shade.
Go to premarital counseling
and and work on your love.
If you love on loving them.
The layman, who do I choose to follow?
Just follow your local imam.
Right? You don't have to follow,
a
a madhab
in a sense of because to follow a
madhab, you need to sit down and learn
a madhab from a to z. Right? Which
is difficult. But your imams, they're like tech
support for you. Right? They're like a they're
there to help you.
So just go talk to your local imam,
or you have a local somebody that you
you rely on on online that's reputable for
being reliable and responsible,
teacher of Islamic law, that's.
Someone can write it down in the comments.
It's a very important accent. When I used
to work in Dar al Iftar in Egypt,
people come from all over Egypt. They don't
ask the Mufti what is.
This is like a very American thing because
we like to be special, man.
There's nothing wrong with breaking your hair, bro.
There was Sahaba, and we need to this
this is where where sometimes Muslims are impacted
by white supremacy and whiteness, and whiteness more
so as a construct of beauty.
Because
the the the Sahaba,
some of them were known for having braids,
the men.
And and and we need to be very
and that's that's a symptom of where we
are when our aesthetic and our beauty is
simply a reflection of the dominant white cultural
narrative.
That's wild, man.
And so people will now confuse it and
tell her brother that has braids that braids
are forbidden. Are you crazy?
Are you crazy?
How do you get a teenager to stick
to salah? Man, I don't know, man. Teenagers
is so
so I have no idea. That's a whole
another discussion, man. I got 2 teenagers. You
know what I mean? And,
you know, you gotta keep them, you gotta
motivate them, You gotta be friends with them.
Pray with them. One of the best things
you can do is pray with them.
Pray with your family. Right? Are tattoos not
allowed according to the majority of Sunnis? Of
course, we know the Jafaridis, there's a whole,
large discussion on this issue. But within the
Sunni,
schools,
the agreement is that tattoos are forbidden because
the narration of Abdullah ibn Masood and the
practice of the Sahaba. However, what about, like,
temporary things like,
I think people get their eyebrows done and
stuff with ink that's not permanent, and it
doesn't keep the water
from reaching the skin as allowed. These kind
of things are allowed.
I don't know, Sammy. I don't know. I
mean, you know, we Allah says he forgives
all sins.
Right? Allah
forgives all the sins. So, you know,
leave it to Allah.
Any other questions
before we go? You guys really bring them
tonight.
Yeah.
I mentioned why because the hadith
and then you have
this
this agreeance
of legal theorists, our ancestors,
our spiritual ancestors who suffered,
right, for the most part,
said that it's not enough.
So let's let's
stay in touch with
with our family,
our spiritual family.
It's very important.
The mostafi, the one seeking the fatwa, is
on the of the one he or she
asks.
It's a very
famous accent we learn when we're studying
to to
to, you know,
What's the ruling on fades? I talked about
this before, man. Fades are allowed. It's not
is when there's, like, holes in your head,
man. It was like, hole here, hole here,
hole here, hole here, hole here, hole here.
That's that's
But to get a fade does not fall
into that.
Yeah. I'm a tell my wife that. And
he said, look, hey, baby. This guy look
handsome. What's up with that? Oh, thanks, man.
You know what I'm saying? Thank you. I
appreciate that. I'm a hook that up now,
man. Yeah. Yeah. Write that down, girl. I'm
hold on. Let me take a screenshot of
that one. Yeah. Okay.
Can I get a prayer from you? Listen.
You need my prayers. I need your prayers.
My prayers are not going anywhere, man.
Let's all pray
for Ricardo.
Everyone here, pray for Ricardo.
That his wife,
She's currently pregnant.
That's awesome, man. I just had one about
a year and a half ago. It's amazing.
It's so cool, man.
And we pray that your wife is her
pregnancy goes well
and that everything is safe,
Ricardo, man. We're praying for you, bro.
I didn't see you test me at what
you're talking about. Do you make this heart
for you to come close again?
I mean, if you're talking about someone that
is, like, really upset with you and there's
serious challenges and you want them to forgive
you, I mean, therapy may be in order.
Right? Like, there's religious things we can do,
but sometimes these are clinical issues that need
to be addressed
correctly. The name of the book, Hassan, is
Hey, where do atheists go?
I no longer believe the atheists are here.
I don't believe the mohid is here.
I heard that the name of the prophet
was written in the heavens and in Muhammad
in the dunya. Now this narration is not
authentic,
this narration. But we know his name was
mentioned before creation.
Any other questions?
How to keep your friends on the straight
path and keep them posting praying 5 times
a day. Oh, that's not easy, man.
You're not responsible for your friends. That's one
thing you need to realize.
You can only do so much. You can
only remind them, but you're not responsible for
them.
So just be honest. Say, look, man.
You guys need to get it together.
And and if if they,
what else can you do? We have to
always remember that we're not it's it's hard
enough being responsible for ourselves. Let alone now
we have to feel responsible for all the
group of people.
So all you can do, Allah says to
the prophet,
Right?
You you just advised
them.
Another person waiting on a second child. May
Allah bless you both.
I have a special affinity for you because
I went through this about a year and
a half ago, so I get it.
Someone asked about the show, Rami. You know,
my my my concern with a a show
like Rami, and I talked about this before,
is how it magnifies the secularism.
What we've seen over over the last few
years in America
is especially the idea now that
broader American society is trying to define
what is an acceptable Muslim. And this is
no knock on Rami as a person. I
don't know him.
But the the the the morality of the
show is very problematic. Right? The morality of
the show is extremely religiously problematic, religiously compromised.
And it doesn't make you a hater to
say this is wrong. It's wrong.
This is wrong. It's wrong. It's unacceptable.
But we as a community also have to
start thinking about in the areas of cultural
production,
why are people who are Muslim,
like, blowing up that don't really maybe reflect
the values that we have?
That's a concern in this attempt to the
creeping secular. It was my today
that there's an attempt, especially in North America,
to domesticate
the Muslim
with a secular, almost,
like, dystopic
set of values.
And that's a problem.
So, you know, you know, we don't need
to blame Rami. He's doing what he's doing
with his hustle. He's a writer. He's a
actor. He's gonna do what he's gonna do.
But we don't have to agree with just
because someone's Muslim. We don't have to be
loyal to
that. We can say, listen. So our brother,
may Allah bless you.
I don't agree with that. That ain't right.
Why isn't it right?
Right?
And also our community.
Should we force our children into religious matters
if you want them to leave the religion?
Yeah.
But but it's hard too. I know it's
I I have kids. It's not easy, man.
There's a fine line between forcing
and strongly encouraging,
And then ultimately, what I think is important
is that we teach our children
to ultimately
take ownership of their own religious responsibility.
And and that's where
you find them passionate, and that's where you
find them now. They're invested.
But if if we kind of force them,
then they're not really gonna do it, but
try to think of ways I have a
lecture on this I'm working on. How do
we how do we create
entry points for people to find themselves and
take ownership of their own religion?
Like, that's very important.
Right? Especially young people. Any other questions?
No. He didn't say anything. Someone's asking about
the show, Rami. Right? So, certainly, I'm not
gonna go off what someone said. And my
thoughts and my thoughts are concerned for the
amplification
of the dystopic
secular Muslim personality
that is, like, free of any real moral
commitment, religious commitment.
That is a a concern for us. For
me. Not saying you, but for me,
from my perspective. But may Allah give us
and help us. We're all trying to get
better. Right? And we're all trying to do
better. Any other questions?
We will see you all,
in 2 weeks.
We did an entire series on life after
death. You can find it in the
in the
highlights.
Valentine's Day is forbidden right.
No. We need to be careful of commodifying
love, man. Love should not be commodified.
I'm I'm gonna leave it at that. You
can ask one of the you
can ask one of the that question, bro.
I'm a I just in fact, I just
got off work. Been working all day. It's
now 10 o'clock at night, so 11 o'clock,
12 o'clock. So I'm off work. I just
clocked out. So you asked me the question,
and I just
clocked
out.
May Allah
bless all of you.
Really appreciate spending time with you guys and
hope that you'll keep us in your duas,
and let other people know if you enjoy
this every other week. We're looking for people
to kinda amplify,
masha'allah,
our our
biweekly gatherings.
Inshallah, please be safe.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Find someone to love for the sake of
Allah. You know what I mean?
