Suhaib Webb – Prophetic Alliance

Great example of the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam

and how we locate ourselves as a prophetic

community that may do politics, not a political

community that may do prophecy.

And that is found in Sahil Bukhari when

the prophet

on the way to Mecca, his camel stopped

and the Sahaba began to tease him and

he said, the one that made this camel

stop is the one who made the angels

stop with Abraha.

Then he pointed towards Mecca, and this is

at the height of their hatred for the

prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam. He said, those people,

those Kufar, if they ask me to do

something which enjoins the sacred,

enjoins the connections of family and kin or

something which is Sharia compliant good, I will

join them. Imam Ibn Qayyim said in Zara

Al Ma'ad, this is an evidence that a

Muslim can partner with anyone on doing good

as long as it doesn't create to a

greater evil or undermine Islam. And then he

mentioned a list of people like hypocrites, the

people of, you name it, that a Muslim

can work with, and that helps us locate

ourselves

as prophetic,

a prophetic community.
