Suhaib Webb – A Dangerous Platitude

Of the more ridiculous claims we hear from

people which is really an attempt to assail

scholarship and to put themselves in the role

of scholars.

Because angst is not scholarship. As they'll say,

I just want it from the Quran literally

from sunnah literally. I don't want scholarship.

Be careful of these kind of people.

I'll give an example. Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala

says in the 6th verse of 5th chapter

of the Quran.

O you who believe when you stand to

pray, then wash your faces. If you were

to interpret this literally, it would be a

bitter. It would go against the way of

the prophet. Because if you were to stand

and then wash your face, that means you

would say,

and then make wudu. And nobody prays like

that. That would be an innovation. So here

we see the necessity

of responsible scholarship and the role of responsible

scholarship in shaping and guiding the thoughts of

the Ummah.
