said, if a man comes to you and

you accept his character and his deen, his

character is determined by asking people about him

who have lived with him, traded with him,

bought and sold with him, worked with him,

or traveled with him. Assessing the character of

a man is not going to the masjid

and asking the imam. He is the worst

one to know. Why? Because everyone's on their

best behavior in the masjid. But when you

live with someone, when you buy and sell

with somebody, when you travel with somebody, you

see them in their true colors. So ask

people who did those three things with them.

That's his character. What about his deen? His

deen, you can say yes in the masjid.

Does he show up? Yeah. His reputation is

that he is a regular Muslim like everybody

else. He prays and fasts and he pays

his zakah, and we never see him smoking,

drinking, or going out with women or anything

like that. The third thing is the asked

the man himself, can you provide? Because that's

his religious obligation. So part of checking on

his deen is checking on if he can

provide. And then also, the has to like

him too. We may not like him as

a family. He doesn't talk. He doesn't laugh.

He doesn't have a personality. But that should

not be the sole reason.
