Rabi'ul Awwal, a time in which Salah

00:00:06 --> 00:00:09

on the Messenger ﷺ should really be what

00:00:09 --> 00:00:09

keeps us busy.

00:00:10 --> 00:00:10

It doesn't mean you're not going to do

00:00:10 --> 00:00:11

other things, remember.

00:00:12 --> 00:00:15

Very important battles happen during Ramadan, let alone

00:00:15 --> 00:00:16

any other month.

00:00:16 --> 00:00:19

The Salah on the Messenger ﷺ is a

00:00:19 --> 00:00:21

shifa' and I remember somebody mocking that one

00:00:21 --> 00:00:22

time.

00:00:22 --> 00:00:25

They say like, we treat Salawat as if

00:00:25 --> 00:00:26

it's a magic potion.

00:00:26 --> 00:00:29

Well, I would say magic potion wouldn't be

00:00:29 --> 00:00:30

enough of an analogy.

00:00:31 --> 00:00:33

They say they treat Salawat on the Prophet

00:00:33 --> 00:00:36

ﷺ as if it's a magic potion.

00:00:36 --> 00:00:37

And I'm like, huh?

00:00:38 --> 00:00:40

No, this is far superior to a magic

00:00:40 --> 00:00:41

potion.

00:00:41 --> 00:00:43

But here we go.

00:00:43 --> 00:00:47

The Messenger ﷺ was bestowed with unmatched beauty

00:00:47 --> 00:00:48

and splendor.

00:00:49 --> 00:00:51

It was described that the Sahaba would visit

00:00:51 --> 00:00:53

the Messenger ﷺ and even non-Muslims would

00:00:53 --> 00:00:57

come to Medina or into Mecca and they

00:00:57 --> 00:01:00

would get caught just staring at the Prophet's

00:01:00 --> 00:01:02

face ﷺ.

00:01:03 --> 00:01:05

And the proportions were perfect.

00:01:06 --> 00:01:09

There is a type of what you could

00:01:09 --> 00:01:12

say is an objective measure to beauty.

00:01:12 --> 00:01:13

It does exist.

00:01:14 --> 00:01:15

It does exist.

00:01:16 --> 00:01:18

There are proportions that indicate perfection.

00:01:18 --> 00:01:20

Now that doesn't mean if a person doesn't

00:01:20 --> 00:01:23

have those proportions that they're not beautiful.

00:01:23 --> 00:01:24

No, there could be beauty in a certain

00:01:24 --> 00:01:25

way.

00:01:25 --> 00:01:28

But some people who have different proportions as

00:01:28 --> 00:01:31

Allah has created things, they may be attractive

00:01:31 --> 00:01:34

to like half the population but not everybody.

00:01:34 --> 00:01:37

I believe there is a market for everybody

00:01:37 --> 00:01:38

when it comes to beauty.

00:01:38 --> 00:01:40

Someone will find you attractive in the world.

00:01:40 --> 00:01:43

The question is a few or a lot.

00:01:43 --> 00:01:44

And when it comes to Sayyid al-Qurnayn

00:01:44 --> 00:01:47

ﷺ, everybody found him attractive.

00:01:48 --> 00:01:50

That's where the balance is.

00:01:50 --> 00:01:53

Some people could have slender faces and some

00:01:53 --> 00:01:54

people have wide faces.

00:01:55 --> 00:01:57

Some people could have wide bodies and slender

00:01:57 --> 00:01:57

bodies.

00:01:58 --> 00:01:59

All sorts of different proportions.

00:02:01 --> 00:02:03

I don't disagree with people who say there

00:02:03 --> 00:02:04

is a beauty in everything.

00:02:04 --> 00:02:04

There is.

00:02:05 --> 00:02:08

But the question is if this Messenger ﷺ

00:02:08 --> 00:02:12

is meant for the whole world, then his

00:02:12 --> 00:02:14

beauty must be for the whole world.

00:02:14 --> 00:02:15

So there is that.

00:02:15 --> 00:02:17

He is in the middle of everything.

00:02:17 --> 00:02:21

They say his skin was neither black nor

00:02:21 --> 00:02:21

was it white.

00:02:22 --> 00:02:25

It was, they say, a honey wheat with

00:02:25 --> 00:02:27

a little click to the lighter side.

00:02:28 --> 00:02:28

And how do they say that?

00:02:28 --> 00:02:33

Because they described you as light if you

00:02:33 --> 00:02:34

turned reddish in the sun.

00:02:34 --> 00:02:37

And they described you as dark if you

00:02:37 --> 00:02:39

turned darker in the sun.

00:02:39 --> 00:02:42

And that's really how they used to define

00:02:42 --> 00:02:42

things.

00:02:43 --> 00:02:46

So the Prophet ﷺ, if you look at

00:02:46 --> 00:02:48

his hair, it was neither one way or

00:02:48 --> 00:02:48

the other either.

00:02:49 --> 00:02:52

Neither was it very curly, neither was it

00:02:52 --> 00:02:52

totally straight.

00:02:53 --> 00:02:54

Now do people love curly hair?

00:02:54 --> 00:02:55

Of course they do.

00:02:55 --> 00:02:57

It's extremely attractive to have curly hair.

00:02:58 --> 00:02:59

It is extremely attractive to have straight hair.

00:03:00 --> 00:03:02

But Allah is sending a Messenger that would

00:03:02 --> 00:03:06

appeal to everybody, not just to 50%

00:03:06 --> 00:03:06

of the people.

00:03:07 --> 00:03:09

And hence his hair was wavy.

00:03:09 --> 00:03:12

So it has some straight, what does wavy

00:03:12 --> 00:03:12

mean?

00:03:12 --> 00:03:13

Part of it is straight and part of

00:03:13 --> 00:03:14

it curls.

00:03:15 --> 00:03:16

That's the definition of wavy.

00:03:17 --> 00:03:19

We find that his size and his build

00:03:19 --> 00:03:23

was what the majority of people would love

00:03:23 --> 00:03:24

on this earth when they look at a

00:03:24 --> 00:03:24

man.

00:03:25 --> 00:03:27

So when it comes to height he was

00:03:27 --> 00:03:30

in the middle of tall and short, but

00:03:30 --> 00:03:31

with a little bit on the tall side.

00:03:32 --> 00:03:34

And his width of his shoulders, they were

00:03:34 --> 00:03:34

broad.

00:03:35 --> 00:03:36

That's what you expect from a man.

00:03:36 --> 00:03:38

So there are certain things you don't want,

00:03:38 --> 00:03:38

the middle.

00:03:38 --> 00:03:41

He had broad shoulders, that's what you expect.

00:03:41 --> 00:03:42

That's what's beautiful in a man.

00:03:42 --> 00:03:43

His hands were big.

00:03:44 --> 00:03:45

When you have a leader who's going to

00:03:45 --> 00:03:48

fight for you, you want him to have

00:03:48 --> 00:03:49

big strong hands.

00:03:49 --> 00:03:52

It's not so thin that you wonder, oh

00:03:52 --> 00:03:53

no, he's too skinny.

00:03:53 --> 00:03:56

That doesn't mean someone thin can't lead.

00:03:56 --> 00:04:00

That doesn't mean someone small has no chance

00:04:00 --> 00:04:01

in life.

00:04:01 --> 00:04:02

No, it just means what is the majority

00:04:02 --> 00:04:04

honor and respect.

00:04:04 --> 00:04:09

And that's how the Prophet was created.

00:04:10 --> 00:04:13

Sayyidina Hassan bin Thabit, on seeing the beauty

00:04:13 --> 00:04:14

of the Prophet, peace be upon him, famously

00:04:14 --> 00:04:18

said, as a kafir, who just minutes ago,

00:04:18 --> 00:04:21

Hassan bin Thabit, as a non-believing, as

00:04:21 --> 00:04:25

if he's a marketer, like a marketing agent,

00:04:25 --> 00:04:29

was hired by Quraish to lampoon the Prophet.

00:04:29 --> 00:04:32

And that's almost like hiring a marketing firm

00:04:32 --> 00:04:35

to go and say bad things about your

00:04:35 --> 00:04:37

opponent in an election or something like that.

00:04:37 --> 00:04:40

You're literally hiring a company to go dig

00:04:40 --> 00:04:43

up dirt and smear it all over.

00:04:43 --> 00:04:48

So these poets were almost like people with

00:04:48 --> 00:04:55

50 million YouTube subscribers and 100 million Twitter

00:04:55 --> 00:04:55

followers.

00:04:55 --> 00:05:00

So they're extremely powerful voices in Mecca.

00:05:00 --> 00:05:04

When Hassan bin Thabit stands up and he's

00:05:04 --> 00:05:06

going to say, on Monday night I'm going

00:05:06 --> 00:05:09

to recite a new qasida, a new poem,

00:05:10 --> 00:05:10

everyone shows up.

00:05:11 --> 00:05:14

If you didn't show up, you asked, hey,

00:05:14 --> 00:05:15

who attended?

00:05:16 --> 00:05:17

What did he say?

00:05:17 --> 00:05:19

That's how these qasidas worked.

00:05:20 --> 00:05:22

And these were marketing people at that time.

00:05:22 --> 00:05:26

They offered Hassan bin Thabit a very, very

00:05:26 --> 00:05:31

handsome purse, a very nice amount of money.

00:05:33 --> 00:05:34

Very good amount of money.

00:05:35 --> 00:05:36

What do you want from this?

00:05:37 --> 00:05:38

Lampoon Muhammad.

00:05:39 --> 00:05:41

Go and say bad things about the Prophet

00:05:41 --> 00:05:42

ﷺ.

00:05:44 --> 00:05:45

All right, so now what?

00:05:47 --> 00:05:49

He's on his way to Lampoon.

00:05:49 --> 00:05:50

He's thinking.

00:05:50 --> 00:05:50

He's got time.

00:05:51 --> 00:05:52

Not the end of the world.

00:05:53 --> 00:05:54

He's got time.

00:05:54 --> 00:05:56

On the way while he's thinking, he's got

00:05:56 --> 00:05:56

his head down.

00:05:59 --> 00:06:01

Suddenly someone's coming the other way.

00:06:01 --> 00:06:03

He looks up and it's the Prophet ﷺ.

00:06:05 --> 00:06:07

When a person is lost in thought, something

00:06:07 --> 00:06:10

happens, your actual true reaction comes out.

00:06:11 --> 00:06:15

So he says, وَأَحْسَنُ مِنكَ لَمْ تَرَ قَطُّ

00:06:15 --> 00:06:22

عَيْنِي وَأَجْمَلُ مِنكَ لَمْ تَلِدِ النِّسَاءُ خُلِقْتَ مُبَرَّأً

00:06:22 --> 00:06:26

مِّن كُلِّ عَيْبٍ كَأَنَّكَ قَدْ خُلِقْتَ كَمَا تَشَاءُ

00:06:27 --> 00:06:30

More beautiful than you my eye has never

00:06:30 --> 00:06:30

seen.

00:06:30 --> 00:06:31

This is a man saying to another man.

00:06:31 --> 00:06:32

And he's an artist.

00:06:33 --> 00:06:35

Remember, they have an eye for beauty.

00:06:35 --> 00:06:38

They care about beauty.

00:06:39 --> 00:06:42

And more beautiful than you, no woman has

00:06:42 --> 00:06:43

ever given birth to.

00:06:44 --> 00:06:48

You've been created free from all blemishes and

00:06:48 --> 00:06:52

imperfections as though you were created just as

00:06:52 --> 00:06:53

you desired.

00:06:54 --> 00:06:58

That is the famous Sahabi Hassan bin Thabit.

00:06:58 --> 00:07:01

Immediately he entered Islam.

00:07:01 --> 00:07:03

Hassan bin Thabit.

00:07:03 --> 00:07:06

And that line of two lines of poetry

00:07:06 --> 00:07:07

went all around.

00:07:08 --> 00:07:12

That's how effective and impactful appearance is.

00:07:13 --> 00:07:16

Appearances are important.

00:07:16 --> 00:07:19

And that's why one of the attributes of

00:07:19 --> 00:07:22

prophets is that they're always attractive.

00:07:22 --> 00:07:23

They're always handsome.

00:07:24 --> 00:07:25

That's the attribute of prophets.

00:07:25 --> 00:07:29

Every prophet had a beautiful face, a perfect

00:07:29 --> 00:07:34

body, the highest height of intelligence, and a

00:07:34 --> 00:07:35

beautiful voice to listen to.

00:07:35 --> 00:07:37

There was never a prophet that had a

00:07:37 --> 00:07:39

voice that people would not want to hear.

00:07:39 --> 00:07:43

Every prophet was born of the highest stock

00:07:43 --> 00:07:45

of their society.

00:07:46 --> 00:07:51

فَجَوْهَرُ الْحُسْنِ فِيهِ غَيْرُ مُنْ قَسِمِ For in

00:07:51 --> 00:07:55

him is the undivided essence of all beauty.

00:07:56 --> 00:07:59

جَوْهَرُ الْحُسْنِ Like the root of beauty.

00:07:59 --> 00:08:01

It's not to be divided with anybody.
