what time is
it isn't changed equals 45 Next week
okay good I thought they were going to push it a little later
but that's good
yeah all right good
yeah so we'll push through to a 45 We should be able to get through
two chapters inshallah
and
then we'll break to pray and ask us why we can do questions if
there are any maybe eat something and head on our ways before the
blizzard comes
although learnership owners in Bismillah he masala Allahu and I
say then I will have even Oman and Mohammed while he was talking to
Salim on because you know the medina ticket
want to hold on
hold on
hold
on something was saying
okay, who's gonna jump into the reading
and go slow because since I'm not following the book I'll just okay
thanks
letters recitation reciting any two after the party.
But there are some as meant as the Quran is divided into four parts
in term of
the law, the first set of laws who is over Bacara
the Enron family,
Alyssa, the woman
labor
livestock are the heights of on your farm as well as the wars
the men are the sources that are next thing like they literally
mean those that are around 100 versus they are strongly suited
to and including soil cloth
fossa frees us from swell
up dude including up to an including
design or assurance to right
until the end Okay, so in that section, the machete is explaining
is that the Quran obviously is divided into four sections in
terms of the length of the sutras and I think in the next part, he's
going to discuss why which ones are usually are the Sunnah wants
to use and prayers and stuff like that. So
Jeremy's recite from me
on Zara aside from de la,
la la sir, aside from Dubai,
my mother decipher
permission aside from more.
So
what happens is so Fudger is supposed to be the longest period,
it's usually the one where you recite the longest origin. And
these are suddenness, meaning that it's not obligatory to follow
these rules, it's preferable, obviously. And if possible, you
should, I mean, you're not always going to know a surah from any of
these sections necessarily, right? A lot of people go through their
whole lives and they only know two or three and that's sufficient
for their purposes, but the sooner is preferable to do these things.
So even if you only know a few suitors,
you reserve your longer ones for fish and lovers like midlength
officers also like mid length Maghrib is the shortest and then
at any time you will return to like a midlife mature
recommended
I should have waited for you to read that.
I should have waited for you to read that.
One way not to follow this will be no harm.
Anytime leading the
state of the health state
behind him, he resigned from the prison since day maybe
that's actually a good point. So those are the Sooners for when the
Imam knows who's following him or playing by himself or by herself,
but if you're praying if you're leading a prayer with a group of
people and you don't know everybody and you don't know their
condition and you don't know how, how long they can stand or how
long they can you know, be
Even if they're standing during the prayer, how long they can take
that for, then you should keep it short just for their benefit.
There's also an I don't know if you get if it's in there because I
haven't looked at it, because again, I don't have a book. But
um, if there's there's a hadith
in which the prophets of Allah Holliday, who was in them was, was
leading this a lot. And he shortened the prayer now by
leaving anything out, but by going to a short surah in the next
recitation and recite it more quickly than normally.
And then after the Salah, he said, It's because he heard a baby
crying, and so out of concern for the mother, who obviously would
be, would be anxious about getting to her child, he sped up the
prayer as much as possible, so as to do so it's a consideration. And
it's an important one. And even that is also for the sun, to
consider who the followers are. There's also
another Hadith that I'm pretty sure will be in here.
But it occurred during the time of the Sahaba, after the time of the
prophets of Allah had a lesson in which one of the Sahaba
went to pray in the masjid and Medina, and whoever was leading
the prayer, and it was for Saturday, Shah, they made the
recitation so long that this person left the prayer. And this
is a Sahaba, right. It's not somebody that didn't care, they
didn't want to pray. But the person leading the prayer was
reading like from Surah on Enron, which is really long.
So after like 10 minutes, in the first one I got, he just, he knew
what was happening, he was gonna go through the holster, so he just
left, and he prayed by himself at home. And then he met, he
explained to the, to the person who had been leading the prayer,
that it's not acceptable. You can't do that in, in, in a group
prayer like that.
And this is something that happens sometimes, even today, you have
people who have memorized the Quran, right? So they're there,
they're half of the Quran. And every time they lead prayer,
they're like trying to you know, practice the recitation and, you
know, go through so that they don't forget that which is
important, but they should be doing that during their snoopers
by themselves because subjecting the rest of the followers to that
is inappropriate.
Mother
Kathy will fascination as in previous chapter
cam after grew up on our local hump sujood Subhan Allah, Allah
Allah, then your most intense to it is if it is not in Arabic, then
it should be hard about my tongue. Before this mean.
We do
not
seek refuge from the trial can decrease.
Many
are not.
And from the trial of life and this men
in the summertime and all degrees I've ever looked recover, it's
okay, so um, you guys are all I'm sure you are. But just just in
case, anybody's you guys are all familiar with the terminology
about the positions of the prayer can cause right? Because I know
that he uses the Arabic terminology which is good.
It's allowed meaning system
but if anybody ever has a question about any terms,
just jump in, right? Raise your hand interrupts clear your throat
or something? And, you know, we'll clarify because it's not. It's,
it's useful and you don't want to be wondering what a certain term
was, and then you didn't know. So alright, so those are the those
are the Sonos in the prayer, regarding what you say when you're
bowing, standing in frustration,
an important point to just to re emphasize is that when you're in
St. Jude is one of the best times to make that love for anything
that you need. And
since this is ancillary to the book, we can talk about it a
little bit. What, what all the automatic that I've heard, discuss
it say is that when you're making that make it big,
you're asking Allah Who controls everything in the universe,
including your your, your, your, every breath, you're living in
dying. And so ask big and ask for everything that you need, and
don't be shy about it.
You know, it's
you know, just to use an analogy, and I don't I don't like to use
analogies normally because
a lot is not like anything we can imagine. But just for our purposes
here it's useful. Say you were in need of $1,000 really to make it
this month and to make it through the year you know, it's gonna be
rough and you're gonna probably need like a good 50,000 And you
you're given the option
continue to ask a billionaire. I mean, like big billionaire,
hundreds of billions of dollars. And you go, Well, I'm kind of shy,
I'm just gonna ask for 100 bucks. Well, you shouldn't, because this
person has it and has it in spades and is willing to give it to you.
Similarly, a wall controls everything and can fulfill every
need that we have, and more. So when you ask a lot, ask, ask ask
for everything that's highlighted and good, obviously. But ask Yeah,
and don't be shy about asking a lot. One of ours names is Kenny,
and he's the generous right? Now he's back. He's the he's the one
who provides who gives us our provision.
So ask, ask, ask away.
And that's one of the better times there's also a bunch of other
times they might be covered in here. If it's not, we'll talk
about it in some next different class. But there's, there's
there's actually a lot of times that are from the Sunnah for
making glatt in which Allah is more likely to accept one of the
ones that we can mention here because it is related to the
prayer is the last third of the night. So towards the end of the
night, right before slaughter fudge, if you wake up and you pray
two rakaat or four or eight, in sets of twos, and then one last
one with right in a single record, and then you make that Allah has
said that no, no, no that's asked from him at that time will be
refused. So anything that you need, if you have if you have the
stamina for it, if you have the motivation, get up a little bit
before measure. Make will do pray to rockers,
pray, pray, wait, and then ask Allah for everything and anything
that you need. And ask for a bonus. And that's the time when
Allah does not refuse. So that and also when you're in your suit,
although after this drive, when you're doing it by yourself right
outside of the prayer, any language is fine. Whatever is
easier for you in the prayer during the sujood only Arabic If
you've memorized some guy in Arabic or if not in your heart
without actually verbalizing it
wants to take the next chapter
unless you want to.
So well.
Prayer often times
somebody purposely stick to prayer,
great nervousness and seriousness that make up a prayer.
There are only three cases in which missing a player has an
acceptable excuse, genuinely forgetting or sleeping after an
attempt to wake up in the course when he disallowed the private
suggestion state of war or prisoner torture.
Set the path has been raised for my model three cases state
and national congress their
obligation and praise completely lifted and free people
administrating woman for a maximum of 150 days leading
up to a maximum system. And the one who loses consciousness by
community performing into a formal research
town waiting for make up missed prayers. Listen reasonable.
The age of maturity, the non creative ignorance laziness that
began praying you must wait, they must make up or miss prayers, you
must make an estimate of us must receive right around just in case.
After that. It makes sense. However, the best way to do this
is to
prayer out to each other.
For example, someone asked me three years in prison different
makeup one missed prayer. In the UK, there's been three years or at
least
one day of arrogance with purple surfaces. Don't get
me wrong.
These countless videos use however, it never happens. Again
the pray
for them to should strive to make no difference. Right? So
what we're clearly emphasizing here or shaved head is clear
emphasizing and this is the standard position with all the
Olivet is that if you've missed a lot, even if it's years and years
of prayers, you just never prayed them. You have to make them up.
It's a debt that's owed to Allah and it's not erased by anything.
Just like if you owe money on a credit card, you just never paid
it doesn't matter, you still owe it and someday you're gonna have
to pay they're either gonna come and take it out of your check. Or
in the case of, you know, obligatory worship on the Day of
Judgment. You're gonna owe that and that's not the time you want
to be making it up. Some people have more, you know, more
motivation spiritually to do this, and they'll make up they'll get up
every night and pray a bunch of prayers because they they feel so
About About the prayers that they've missed.
That's great. If you don't, if you're not able to do that, that's
also fine. The program that the sherry lays out there, we just add
one prayer. If you can, that's good, too. Sometimes during the
day, that's more difficult, you're already trying to sneak off and
pray for us right and you're at work or you're not, it's hard to
even make that one prayer. If you can't do it at that time, then
make a program where at night, you just pray, you make up a day's
worth of prayers,
as much as you can try to remote remain on it. And one of the
things I'm not sure, if you mentioned is that all of the other
men who have written about this say that if a person has made a
sincere effort, and is in the process of making those prayers up
and dies in that state, that inshallah he'll be forgiven for
what he's missed, because his intention was to have lived long
enough to do it. So you know, the reward for our actions is by
intentions. And so if your intention is to make right with
Allah for the things that you've missed, and you die in that state,
and then inshallah it's accepted from from you, as opposed to the
person who makes no effort.
So even if your effort is small, and the other thing is, I know, I
mentioned that there's some people that you know, they have like this
high him or like they could really they were, they're really
ambitious to do it,
you shouldn't do that, if you're not going to, if you're not going
to be able to be consistent with it. And that goes for any kind of
spiritual work, anything that you do in the religion, it's better to
do a small thing consistently, day after day after day, for years,
than to, you know, go full force, and really put hours and hours for
a couple of weeks. And then it dies out and you don't do
anything. That's much worse, actually. So you do as much as you
can. And maybe you'll find that you have more, the more that the
longer that you do it, the more you're able to, and that's good.
And then you can increase. But don't, don't throw it all on your
back at once.
It's like anything, it's like, you know, weightlifting or something,
right, you can't start out big to start off small, but you keep
consistent with the small amount, and you'll be able to work your
way up to it.
So that's why I wanted to save
a lot of time, this 40 years began last year, that was surprising to
me, since you since we will be quite difficult to make up. For
anytime soon, I assume.
We tried to make them off the proverbial
someone never prayed because they will not be converted. They are
not responsible for any news prayers have been up when they
were not even Muslim and did not know about its obligation. Lastly,
pressure to be made up and the way they were missed. For example,
while I was traveling in a rush home, and then realize there are
no free super
while I was traveling, and I'm making offers to into an exec
exactly, I would have paid them while trial
is okay. And the opposite is true, too. If you're if you're
traveling, you say going somewhere for a couple of days, and you
realize that you didn't pray yesterday, one of your prayers you
pray as you would have at home not as traveling, because it's the way
that you missed it. Clearly, that does not apply to if you have
years and years, you're not going to try to figure out where was I
on what date was a foreigner from home that it's traveling or at
that point, you have to just assume that they're all regular
prayers and pray them that way. If if you have if, if that's the
situation for you, we have years of prayers to make up.
I'll say this to it. Even though I I became a convert to Islam. And
so the stuff before then Islam, you know, there was there was
times when I didn't pray as regularly as I should have. And at
one point when I learned about this, I said wow, you know, I
thought it was just, you know, you made a mistake, and you make you
make Toba for it and Allah. And then I found out that I actually
had to make those up. And it felt a little daunting. And I was like,
I don't know what to do about this, this is way too much.
But it's actually a mercy from Allah, you know, because what
would be worse would be that you're not even allowed to the
opportunity to make them up.
And it would it also, what's also good about it, at least it was in
my life. And in some other people that I've known too is that it's a
strong motivator for always trying to pray on time. And praying that
day. And even if you for some reason have missed the prayer that
day, you don't go to sleep without making it up. Sometimes.
And I know I've I've known this about with other people I've
talked to sometimes it's even better just to focus on not
falling further behind. When you know to use that that den analogy
again, it's better to not fall further behind just at least not
use that credit card anymore, right? than it is to
try to get ahead if you can't so if you're even struggling with
praying, the five periods that you have to work hard on that and make
that
even if you're not making them during the day for whatever reason
to try to make them happen and they're appropriate time series is
super important, right? This is the defining character
terroristic of our religion. Like when they show Muslims on TV? What
do they show? They show women hijab, of course. And then they
show people praying, like that's the symbol of the Muslims or the
call to prayer. Is the audience what is, you know, all we would
what? What symbolizes Islam? The prayer is central to our religion
can you make the intention to
a sick person just for? And then also?
It's a good question.
The answer is no. However, it brings up another topic that might
be addressed later on in the book, we realize we're talking about it
now because it was brought up
pretty soon as you can combine intentions on sadness. So say you
walk into the masjid, there's the Sunnah prayer of greeting the
masjid to hit the remission, right? That's two records, to the
cast is also the prayer of Tober. It's also the prayer of shock of
giving thanks. It's also the prayer of need southern hedge
their altered archives, right? You can make your intention for all of
those with just those two records to pray to, you make the intention
for every prayer that that fits that mold. And it may be seen as
you know, it's right before fracture. So you have the two, the
terracotta stitches also pray before for sure you can combine
your intention and all of those. So combining intentions does work
and so on but only in suddenness. But the other thing.
If you have a lot of first to make up, not just a couple of days, but
a lot. You shouldn't be praying Sooners until you pray those
prayers, except for the Sunnis before fetch, and maybe the two
after sort of Maghrib
in some RMSA. Also, you should never miss ceferin with the two
and one at the end of the night. When other than that you shouldn't
be praying like, you know, forecast before, go ahead and
forecast after and you still haven't prayed like $100 you
should put your energy into doing that because they're more
important.
Sure.
If you're trying to memorize
can you understand you can't read?
There are what am I have said that it's completely permissible during
your sadness. So yeah. And also Can you recite the same
thing?
You can, you can for the for the photocopier, it's preferable to do
two different ones. Although it's still permissible if you just do
one. Or there's even the story of the sahabi that I'm sure many of
you have heard about the he always prayed all his prayers that he
prayed alone with coho lava.
And both rock us and one of the Sahaba actually heard him one day
and went and complained to the Prophet, so a lot and he was some
of them. And when he called them in to talk to him about it, he
said, Why do you do this? And he said, I love this sorta and I love
the meanings in it. And he said, Well, may Allah reward you. And
then this is where we get the same sort of officeholder. It was one
that that sort of is a third of the Quran. And it's the heart of
the Quran, right? So cool. Hola, ha ha the last woman let me let me
plug for and
so it's permissible. But the Sunnah is not to do this, do
different ones. But if you're doing it because you're trying to
practice a Surah or something and it should be fine in the Sunnah
prayers, you can do whatever, you can just keep praying that same
one, regarding not holding the Quran and reading from it in the
fourth prayers, non double check was a fairly just to make sure.
My understanding is that it has to do with the fact that you're, you
know, do too many movements. While you're in your prayer to put the
to set the book aside, pick it back up, flip through your pages.
If you have something and I've seen these a friend of mine had
one that was huge most times right, literally, the pages are
this tall, and they have like a stand and it's in front of you. I
think people use it in other countries for for got away when
they have someone who maybe not memorized perfectly. The is
leading the prayer. Anyway, if you have something like that in front
of you, if you want to have the energy to draw it out or
something.
As long as you're not holding the most half, you might be able to
even do it in the fall, of course, but I asked you, Shelly and we'll
have an answer definitive for next week. But in the sun as you can
see
anything else?
Questions, questions? So we just covered chapters 27 and 20. Do you
have a book?
No, that's fine. That's fine. I don't have my neither, but it
would be my third one that I lost. I didn't lose. I keep giving them
to people. So Oh,
come on.
So thank you
Okay.
So can you give me the chapter names again? It's 2027 and 28.
Right? All right.
No. So it's chapter 27. And 28. I guess you could look at the titles
there. It's uh, one of them is the missed obligate obligatory
prayers. And the previous one, I think, is the sun dials in the
prayer?
Everybody catch that we just covered 27 and 28.
What's the next chapter?
And that's an exception to connect, can I just look at it for
a second? Sorry?
Correct performance.
So I don't, I don't want to shortchange you guys, but I also
don't want to rush it. Because Because if we do, we're gonna end
up at the end of the term, with nothing to cover. We're doing a
lot of review or something. And that's actually not enjoyable, I'm
sure.
And no, it's not for me anyway.
So this is half a page.
It does start the next section.
And I want to leave something for Shadi to do next week, when he
comes back and sha Allah.
We just take a quick look at it.
All right, you know what, we will do this one. And that's and then
we'll just, maybe we'll just discuss some other things about
the perfect guys have questions. Good time, because we have a we
have a big empty space here to sort of share. And maybe I'll just
talk a lot that might work to maybe you'll hear something useful
in sha Allah.
Does anybody want to jump in and read this?
Yeah.
Of correct performance, the promise.
Prescribed prayer is like a pair of scales, whoever gives full
measure will also receive involved in the process, as Lynn said, to
members of my community may perform the prayer in such a way
that they're bowing in the prostration looks identical, but
their prayers may be as far apart as heaven and earth, that is in
terms of their crucial, okay.
So the first the first Hadith, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa Salam
is describing the obligatory prayer in terms of
it's something that's owed, and then the reward for it is
something that Allah will give back in measure of how since of
how well you perform the prayer, right, so the more you feel that
side of the scale with the correctness of your performance
with your, with the whole shoot, right, the focus in the prayer,
the God consciousness, thinking about Allah, and focusing on
aligning the prayer, the heavier the reward is on your on the other
side of the scale.
And then he illustrates this a little longer with some of my
talking about how there may be two people who you see them praying,
and they look exactly alike, they've done exactly the same
prayer. And then the difference between them is Heaven and Earth,
meaning as far apart as they could be, and it's simply because of
what they were focusing on, you know, one person may have been
doing all of the movements perfectly and looking like the,
like the best prayer there is, right? Except that they're
thinking about their business, or they're thinking about work, or
they're thinking about their family, or they're thinking about
a football game, whatever it is, right? They're not focused on the
slot. Their mind is everywhere, but Allah and the recitation of
the Quran and the meanings of the Quran.
Whereas the other person is completely focused on the meanings
of what's being recited, and on the meaning of being a servant,
and why you bow and why you prostrate on the ground. And what
it will be like on the Day of Judgment when we prostrate before
Allah
and so the difference between those two things, one person is
just making movements.
In the it's still accepted. It's, he did it. And he's not doesn't
Oh, it's not like he didn't pray. But the difference between a
person who's just going through the motions and another person who
is literally completely transported out of the situation
and their focus is completely on Allah.
In the next life, it's completely different. There's another Hadith
woman who jumped in here with it.
It's, it's one of the central Hadith. It's included in Imam
Norways 40 Hadith that he felt were fundamental to the to the
religion of Islam. And it's it's the hadith of I think we may have
covered in another portion of this classroom or another class, but
I'll go over it anyway. So the text of the hadith is
You know what
I can I'm pretty sure I can hit it from memory but I think
you have a nice look listening so maybe, maybe, maybe I won't have
to
unless there's no index here and then I will
buy an index
so the Hadith it's not 100% about the prayer but the prayer this
idea of focusing the prayer is given a central place in this
hadith inshallah it's in here
sorry, I know that silence is
a little awkward
and it's not in this book, Allahu Akbar.
Okay, we're gonna go from memory.
So the hadith is sometimes referred to as the hadith of
Gibreel.
And if you don't, you'll bear with me. And if I make any mistakes,
I'm sure you'll correct me. The the Hadith begins at the Sahaba
describe that they were sitting when they was the Prophet
sallallahu alayhi wa, and he was off.
And then a man came among them. And it was a man that they've
never seen before. And they didn't recognize. But he had no signs of
traveling either. His clothes were completely white, like snow. And
his hair was jet black, and neat and clean. So it didn't come from
the desert, Hanuman riding an animal. He wasn't 30. And he
wasn't from the city. So there was no way that he could have been
there without traveling. But he had no signs of travel on him. And
then he came into the group, and he sat in front of the prophets, a
little law and he was handling and put his knees against the prophets
knees,
sitting in the position that you would in prayer, so very close to
him.
And then he said,
Yeah, Muhammad.
Tell me about Islam.
And the prophets of Allah, they have a southern responded
with the five pillars, it's to
believe in Allah and His Messenger, fast, pray, may Hajj
and paisa cat.
And he said, Very good. Now tell me about Eman.
And the Prophet went through the core beliefs of Islam to believe
in Allah, and his prophets, and his books and angels, and the day
of judgment and predestination.
And then the man said, and tell me about San, accent translates as
perfection or beauty or right, the title, hard word to translate.
There's not a direct correlation in English, but accent is
something that's excellent and very beautiful.
And
the Prophet said, so all I knew was,
is to pray, as though you see Allah. And even though you don't
know that Allah says, yeah.
And so and then he also asked about the last day.
And the Prophet said, I don't know any more than the questioner does.
And then the man said to him, well, then tell me about it
science and the prophets of Allah, they were someone gave some of the
signs, which is that women will be wearing clothes, that look like a
second skin, and that mothers will give birth, slaves will give birth
to their own masters.
And then the man said, you've answered correctly to all these
things. To which say, you know, what the Allah has said that he
was shocked to the man will come and ask these questions, and then
confirm to the Prophet salallahu Alaihe Salam of all people that he
was right.
And then he got up and he left, and then never saw him again. And
some time passed, and nobody said anything. Because it was like an
awkward moment, right? It's a strange occurrence, that this man
that nobody's ever seen shows up out of nowhere, looking like he's
been there the whole time. He has no signs of trouble. And he asked
these questions and then says to the prophets of Allah, who was
going to go right, and then he leaves. So then the prophet and he
said to some and prompted them and said, Do you know who that was?
And they said, Yeah, Rasul Allah, you align his messenger know best.
And he said, that was the angel Jibreel, who came to teach you
your religion. So this is the religion of Islam, when Gibreel
came to Satan intent that day.
And that third, that third portion, a sin. It's a huge, huge
bot, there's a huge body of work on that alone. How does one
achieve that? It's the entire purpose of Islamic spirituality is
to achieve that moment where you have true Hoelscher in your
prayer, so much so that alma de la Hahn, who witnessed this and was
one of the great Sahami right. He said that
If I had a single prayer in my life, in which I felt like I had
true hope, sure, I would have felt like I would feel safe in the next
life. This is all our who prays better than all of us put
together. And he said that if only one prayer in his entire life, he
was sure that he had correct haha, and he would have felt safe and
engagement. So it's huge. It's important, you know,
or the big ol amount of spirituality like I'm doing color
on J. Lani. Abba Hasina. Shalini This is the entire purpose is to
achieve this TRUE GOD centric focus in your prayer. So if you
don't have it, it's not the end of the world, something to work
towards. But it is something to work towards. It's huge. And it's
tremendously important.
So much so that it shouldn't be something that you just ignore in
everyday you pray the prayer and you know, just rush through it,
sometimes it will happen. But make it for even if just for a few
moments, you know, you can really focus on it. One of the good
things that that I've heard works for people is
y'all know the fatty had memorized. Also, the meanings in
the language is your strongest thing. So English or whatever. And
when you're praying by yourself as you're reciting it, translate it
in your head, so you'll go slower.
And you'll also be focusing on the words of the Fatiha and the
meanings of it, which is even more important in that that should
really make you give you leaps and bounds from what the prayer is
when you just rush through it and you know, move on to the next
thing, just do even if only one rocket but sit there and you know,
and hamdulillahi rabbil Alameen all praise and translate it in
your head. And it really I think it'll really make it this is what
I've been told that will make a big difference. Sorry to
interrupt.
If someone prayer performance a prayer at the proper time, so
don't worry.
Mastering this find, allowing and making cross which is someone who
is fair at the proper time, they should correctly, value
frustration properly and observes due humility, that prayer will
rise up, all right and shining and we say May Allah take care of you
as you have taken care of me. But if some of the forms is prayer at
the wrong time without correct solution, not bowing and
prostrating properly and not observing do humility, his prayer
will rise up all dark and gloomy, saying Mahlon neglect you as you
have neglected me. Then when it has reached whatever Allah wishes,
it will be folded up with.
So again,
strong emphasis in this hadith on the tremendous reward of premiere
of praying correctly, versus how much you're missing out on if you
don't. And here it's even bigger than that had been there prior
Hadith where the prophets of Allah it was him said to members of my
community may perform the prayer in such a way that their boundary
frustration look identical. But their prayers may be as far apart
as heaven Earth, and that's in terms of their focus on aligning
the prayer here, the person that even bothering to make the motions
correctly. So they're just being very lazy in the prayer. You know
this the statement
Allah has no regard on the day of resurrection for services, not
straighten his spine between bowing and making prostration I'm
sure you've probably seen it right. I'm probably been guilty of
it myself, where a person is in record, and then they barely stand
up before they go down.
It just just one second is stillness as what Allah is asking
you for. And it's not a lot to ask, considering everything we've
been given, right.
So
and then in the other hand leaflets in the Moto Malik over
the lawn, it's just describing again, somebody who doesn't even
take the care to perform the physical movements of the prayer
correctly.
It's almost as if that prayer is not accepted. And so the prayer
rises up and says to Allah, may Allah neglect you, as you
neglected me.
My concern
for everybody that joined us, we just did chapters 2728 and 29. So
if you get a chance to review those,
I'm sorry, not 27 Right. 28 Yeah, we did do 27 Right. So I'll just
do a quick quick quick review, but you should probably if you get a
chance at home go through the book. So chapter 27 It's on page
56 which is going she share her shadows here is describing the
Sunnah Dias things that you say in the prayer so that when
he indicates
Have you started to prayer
that the Quran is divided into four sections in terms of the
length of the surah. So the short so the first one is the longest.
And then next in length, maximum length. And then which ones are
the sunnah to recite from in certain prayers. fougere being the
longest governor in Austin being kind of a midlength.
Mother the shortest, and for a SHA, a little bit longer, but not
as long as, as the others.
One commentary that's in here and then I made also is that this
doesn't mean that you have to memorize source from each of these
sections in order to pray or to focus on this. But if you know 10
sources, keep your longer ones for fetch, etc, in the shortest that
you know, for Maghrib. Another point that we emphasized was that
when leading other people, if you know who who's behind you then
stick as close to the center as possible. If you don't know the
capabilities of the people that are praying with you, maybe could
be older people that could have some kind of ailment, it might be
difficult for them to stand or even if they're sitting, they
might have difficulty sitting for any length of time.
Keep it short.
It's better. And it's also from the Sunnah. And I related an
incident from the life of the prophet sallallahu alayhi wa
sallam in which he was leading, he was leading the prayer, and he
read, he changed to shoulders, or he went with a short Sudha and
read faster than he normally would recite and in the prayer, and
afterwards, he's turned his head to the Sahaba, that he did so
because he heard the child cry. And he was sure that the mother
would be anxious about that. So he wanted to speed up the prayer as
much as possible to in order to get her to her child. So it's from
the mercy of being being a merciful person. And, and the
amendment includes that you treat the people that are falling if you
justly and mercifully, so you don't impose a long recitation on
them, if you don't know that they can handle it. Another thing that
we mentioned also was that you shouldn't
shouldn't just lead with long sword as just because
these are the southerners and if you stick to these, that's good.
And I also mentioned
an incident from the time of the Sahaba, after the prophets of
Allah, her name was son, and which one is a hobby,
went to pray in the masjid. And the Imam was really, really long
surah. And so, after a good portion of it, he realized that he
was going to read the whole so he stopped, he left the prayer, went
home and pray. And the next day explained to him that that's not
acceptable. So don't don't don't kill people just because you've
finished memorizing sort of luck.
The next chapter was on making a Mr. Prayers, the obligatory
prayers. I should also mention, and I didn't mention earlier is
that Imam Abu Hanifa in his school, for them, the shefa were
Witter are also obligatory to make up if you've missed them. So if
anybody's follows the school, I will Hanifa and fit, and they miss
their chef and waiter, the two in one at the end of the night, they
also have to make those up, according to that opinion. But
that's just that school.
In terms of the prayers themselves, in the midst prayers,
obligatory prayers have to be made up, whether it's just you missed
the prayer this morning, or you missed a day's worth of prayers,
or you missed 10 years worth of prayers.
And if it's that big of a number, one of the things that she Shetty
outlines here that's acceptable is to make one up with per day. So
you make up one day's worth per day. So if you miss three years
worth, and you get into that you get in this plan, and you stick to
it in three years, you'll be caught up. Also, if you have a
large number of peers, and you can't even do that,
at least don't fall further behind. So don't don't miss any
prayers that you don't have to miss just out of laziness or
deciding not to do it. And if you do miss a prayer in a day, try not
to go to sleep without making it up. So that at least you're good
for that day. And make an effort to pray a little more. One of the
things that I also didn't mention that I might have is I've also I
know somebody who,
as I mentioned, didn't have the time during the day to add a
prayer to each prayer. So they'll have another ask for another Ask.
They just they were very busy, they didn't have the time. They
did have a lot of free time on the weekend. So they will just take a
couple of hours.
And it's tough, because praying for a couple of hours is a lot.
But they will do it. They take a couple of hours and take some
breaks and they try to make up a couple of days worth of prayers on
the weekends. You know, two or three days, take a break maybe the
next day do another two or three days, so that they were still
fulfilling the obligation of making the prayers up as much as
possible. And the other thing that we mentioned also is that if you
the dollar might have said that if you make this plan and you're set
in your state
First on it and you're really trying, and you make it, you know,
you're you die before you've completed it, that inshallah Allah
accepts it from you, and accepts the intention that you had, which
was if you continue to live another 100 years, it would have
made the more. So inshallah and another thing that I mentioned,
that's important, I think is that
one should never try to go all out from zero to 60. Right? If you can
start by making up one extra per day, then do that. And if it's
easy make two and if it's easy go up to a full day, four days worth.
And if that's easy, make up two days worth. The person that I
mentioned that I know that was making up a lot of prayers, it's,
she was a student of chef that I know, in Georgia, and she used to
she was making SubhanAllah. She was doing 15 extra prayers, extra
days worth of prayers every night, which is a lot. I mean, it's
that's a lot Subhanallah but she had the issue was only she was
only making up to two years worth.
But she was serious. And she got them done like that.
How would you know how many you missed? Well, so what's what was
she actually mentioned in the book is, you know, if it's just a
handful, then you don't write, I forgot to purchase it or whatever.
If it's years worth, you make it conservative, make an estimate,
you go well, let's see, I became Muslim or became became of age
where I should have been praying
10 years ago, I'm gonna go ahead and go for like 10 and a half
years. So make an estimate, and then round up, just to be on the
safe side.
So I know it's onerous, and we discussed that a lot. It seems
like it's like, really heavy.
What's worse is making it to the day of judgment, and not having
made the effort.
Not necessarily you accomplish that, although inshallah we all
do. And we never miss a prayer between now and the day that we
die. And in fact, we earn tremendous reward for every effort
that we make in sha Allah. But if you do get to the end of your
life, and you've made the effort, and inshallah you're forgiven, not
making the effort as well, I'll just doesn't accept because it's
not acceptable. I'm, like I mentioned in terms of the person
not straining out for one second, what Allah has given us is
everything. Every every breath that we take every person in our
life that's important to us, every bite of food that we've eaten,
everything that we have, and we could never make up, we can never
be rewarded for all of it. But
just fulfilling the obligations is the minimum. So we have to do it
and make an effort to do the best that we can, and not not deem it
too hard.
You, you can do it, Allah doesn't place anything on us that we can't
handle. It takes might take some adjustment, and it might take some
dedication. And again, do what you can. And don't push yourself more
than you can because something small, even if it's like you make
up one prayer a week. Now one day's worth of one federal prayer
a week, right for the rest of your life, but you've been dedicated to
it. It's way better than going through, you know, a year's worth
in two days and then stopping and never doing anything and not even
praying. So
What's better is to do something that's and this is for everything
in the religion. Consistency, even in a small amount is way better
than somebody who goes all in and then stops.
You mentioned
could she have repented for those two years?
So
what if a person had missed 510 years?
That's a good question. Shadi mentioned here that
if an adult Muslim didn't pray an entire lifetime, such as 40 years
for zero,
then they begin to pray. Some have said that it would suffice them to
make sincere Toba since it will be quite difficult to make 40 times
365 times five, however, to at least try to make them up as
preferable. So 40 years is a lot right. And at that point, you
should probably just make sincere Toba you should be making more
anyway. But you should make a sincere Toba and hope that Allah
accepts it. Would you still try to do something where you're probably
never going to make a 40 bit for two years worth? That's a lot.
There is another opinion it's not mainstream.
It's a very small group of automa have this opinion but it is that
people who intentionally Mr. Prayer have left Islam.
They take they take as a proof from that that hadith that between
a person's Islam and their coffee is the is the prayer.
But that's not a mainstream opinion. However, people who
adhere to that opinion those those who take that opinion, it's a very
strict stern one. And I don't think it's correct and I don't
know anybody that does, but the only man who
Will that opinion say that you're not making up anything because you
weren't even a Muslim? It's kind of rough.
I'd rather have to make up the prayers that I have not been
Muslim.
Right? So and this is not for somebody that forgets a prayer or
doesn't, but somebody who intentionally just doesn't pray
for a long time, their their position is that that person is
not even Muslim anymore. Again, this, I don't I don't think it's a
sound position in a country it contradicts one of the principles
of a hustle network GMAT, which is that
a sin, no matter how grievous does not make, take someone out of the
religion, there's no sinful act, you're going to commit, other than
declaring yourself a non believer that takes you out of the
religion, even missing the parent tension.
Even the even in the Maliki school, way back when they were in
control of the area of Morocco, and it was like, like actual
Muslim power. Their position was that a person who openly
disregarded the prayer and refused to pray for three days straight,
they would be put in prison. And if they continue to refuse, they
will be executed.
But that was if they did it publicly, because it causes
discord. You know, it might encourage other people to do it,
but they were still not considered non Muslim, their family would
still inherit their estate, etc. It's just that they were such bad
muscles that they had to be killed. But even then, they didn't
consider them none. So I wouldn't follow that opinion. And I
wouldn't say well, I guess I was careful for that time. So I don't
have to make these prayers.
But it does exist. It's also sincere asking for Allah's
forgiveness is strong, and it's powerful. And you combine that
with a sincere effort to do what you can, what's within your means.
And then you shouldn't be you should expect good things. It's
always good to have a good opinion of Allah and His mercy.
Does it include us?
So no, thankfully, yeah. Hamdulillah. I didn't mention that
in the School of Abu Hanifa. About the Rohan. I said, Oh, no, it's
fine. And the school in the School of Imam Abu Hanifa, or the LA Han,
they do include chef and with
Chef and winter, which is the two and one at the end of the night.
Those two cylinders, they say are obligatory, and so you should make
them up as well. But that's just that one schools opinion. And it's
only for those, but no, none all of a sudden, this would be
literally impossible.
Right, and so and then every I think pretty much everyone was
here for this last on the merits of correctly performing the
prayer.
You know, there's almost not enough that you can say about it.
And even though it seems like it's a short chapter, there's really
the Hadith here really say so much about that importance.
sugar
daddies that I mentioned a few minutes ago is that it's a it's a
Hadith from the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam that between a
person and their Eman or their lack of belief is the prayer
that has multiple meanings, one of which not that one becomes a non
Muslim, like that small group of whatever believe in that small
region of the world, but rather that
it's one of the distinguishing or the distinguishing feature of this
religion.
You know, the Muslims are identified by their prayer and by
the fact that they pray by the call to prayer. All of these
things are the symbols of Islam that are universally recognized.
If no, if people don't know anything else about the Muslims,
they know that we pray all the time. And if they were a
minimalist, when they go, we guys pray so much.
I can't be as rude as I can.
You guys pray to
You know, bring me back to that. Because that's, that's an
important thing. And since we have a few minutes, we'll maybe talk
about it. What time?
Sorry, it's rude to look at your
Okay. 823, that's fine.
So, so the prayer is one of the distinguishing features, if not
the most distinguishing feature of this religion. And it's the utmost
important. And on the Day of Judgment, it's the first thing
that we'll be asked about, we also know this from say it from the
prophets of Allah. So the very first thing that were that were
questioning about is our prayer, our performance of it, whether or
not we missed it, how we prayed it, how serious we were about it.
All of this is the first first thing that we're asked about now
how we treat each other. And then did we pay their cat now what
about our fasting, all of which is super important, but the prayer
is, number one, is first and foremost. Another thing that a lot
of lemma say is that a person who really gets their prayer in order,
the other things of the religion will fall into place
automatically. So a person that's praying five times and they're
praying with OSHA, and they're serious about their prayers. The
other stuff in almost comes naturally. And by the same token,
a person who stopped praying all together, it's almost impossible
for them
keep any of the other aspects of the religion going
it's I mean you might find people who fast because fasting sometimes
it's like a cultural thing and it's a tradition in their family
and it would be ridiculous for them to eat
but the rest of the religion they're not going to have any of
it lined up so equal to what you want to get
out
sounds
just
sorry about that he's great Mashallah.
Yeah, so the
a person who doesn't pray it's it's, it's it's very unlikely that
they're going to have the more subtle aspects of the religion in
check the way that they treat their family, their relationship
with a law, their relationship with the prophets of Allah and it
was something of a relationship with the Quran.
I had a friend of mine, a long time ago who was getting married.
And he was really taken aback because the family seems
religious.
The woman that he was going to marry, prayed and went to the
masjid and wear hijab and was part of the MSA in their school. And
then he met the family and the family seemed like a normal
religious Muslim family. Except that one day he was there and it
was Mother's time and he got up to pray. And the mother and the
daughter join him in the father didn't
and if it was one of the one of the women you might have a reason
right because she might not be praying there's no reason to just
sit there and watch your prey.
And he was like really taken aback and it is it's it's shocking when
you see that right. Like imagine you could see people maybe not
doing this when you're not doing that maybe somebody smokes maybe
somebody does this, maybe somebody has a girlfriend, all these
things, you can see them you go well, you shouldn't but to see
someone just sit there when it's time to pray and just go
this is like it's ridiculous. Almost like why would you do that?
So that's imagine how that looks to Allah.
You just sitting there like, I'm gonna keep watching TV instead of
praying. It's not it's totally ridiculous. Salary go
another thing that
this this goes for most things, but since the prayer is what we're
focused on it is the central aspect of this Deen. Another thing
that I learned from one of the shifts that that I listen to a lot
mashallah, he said that
the most egregious thing, the most awful thing that a person can do
is intending, planning and intending to commit a sin
with no regard to the prohibition of it. So it's one thing to commit
a sin because you forgot, or because you felt the need to your
boss is questioning you as to why you're late. And you can't tell
him I just didn't. So you lie or some. It's not good. But these
things, that's one thing. A whole other thing is when you sit there
and you go, I'm just gonna do this. This this thing that's hot,
amen. I know, it's hot. I mean, I don't care.
Nothing is more insulting to all other than that, and
it's even more so when the thing that you're refusing to do is
pray.
Not a lot that we were asked to do. And, you know, I heard someone
mentioned once that almost every single thing in this world has had
this small window small list of things that are haram and our
obligations even a smaller list. So few things that we should do.
And a prayer even a prayer done properly takes a couple of minutes
out of your day. So yeah, there's there's almost nothing worse than
just sitting there and going
no, we're gonna do it. I don't feel like I don't feel like maker
will do so I'm just gonna skip the prayer.
We will do things tough. A lot of people hate it, especially in the
winter, right? Yeah, the cold weather. It's rough. It's rough.
But that's it's it's compared to what Allah has given us. It's the
smallest thing and it's almost nothing. You mentioned a few
minutes ago some some people were I can't you guys pray too much.
Some of you guys are converts. Some of you have been most of my
life.
Regardless of that, whenever somebody whenever you're talking
to someone about Islam, and they bring up anything related to Fick
prayer fasting hedgehog
multiple ways is that too much? Okay. I'll take care of it. No
problem.
It can be overwhelming Allah.
I'm moving out to the hallway inshallah.
