Assalamu alaikum, everyone. What's going on? Hope you
guys are doing well. Welcome to another episode
of Simple Tafsir. In this episode, we're gonna
be looking at Surat
Abasa,
which means he frowned.
Bismillah Alhamdulillah, Assalat Wasalam Ala Rasulillah.
The scholars of tafsir, they mentioned
that one day the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam,
he was sitting with some of the leaders
of Quraysh, the leaders of Makkah
and he was inviting them to Islam.
You know, he wanted them to accept the
message.
That way many people would follow their lead.
These were the influencers of that time. If
they accepted Islam, many people would follow suit.
And then a blind man by the name
of Abdullah ibn
Maktoum he came and he was very keen
on learning and benefiting from the Prophet Sallallahu
Alaihi Wasallam.
So he was asking the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi
Wasallam to teach him and he didn't realize
that the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam was busy.
And he kept insisting and the Prophet Sallallahu
Alaihi Wasallam frowned and turned away from him.
And this is when Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala
sent down this Surah
reprimanding the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam and instructing
him how to behave towards the believers who
are keen on learning.
The messenger of Allah sallallahu alaihi wasallam frowned
and turned away.
Because of the arrival of Abdullah ibn Maktoum
who came asking for guidance.
He was blind and had come when the
Messenger sallallahu alaihi wa sallam was busy with
the seniors of the mushrikeen
hoping that they would be guided.
Oh messenger,
what do you know? Maybe this blind man
may be purified of his sins.
Or he may take heed of the advices
he hears from you and benefit from them.
As for those who feel they have no
need to bring faith in what you have
brought due to the wealth they possess
You persevere behind them and are attentive to
them?
What blame will there be on you if
he is not purified of his sins by
not repenting to Allah?
As for the one who comes to you
running, searching for goodness,
And he fears his lord,
you are preoccupied
from him with others, the senior mushrikeen
That's not how it should be. It is
only admonition and a reminder for those who
pay attention.
So whoever wishes to remember Allah should remember
him and take heed of what is in
the Quran.
Because this Quran is in blessed scrolls with
the angels.
They are raised on a high place,
pure. No dirt or filth reaches them.
And they are in the hands of messengers
among the angels.
They are honorable in the eyes of their
lord, frequent performance of goodness
and
obedience.
The disbelieving human is cursed. How severe is
his disbelief in Allah?
What substance did Allah create him from that
he has the right to display arrogance on
earth and disbelief in him?
He created him from a small amount of
fluid
and managed his creation in stages.
Then after these stages, he made the exit
from his mother's womb easy for him.
Then after spending the amount of life decreed
for him, Allah caused death upon him and
made a grave for him wherein he remains
until he is resurrected.
Then when Allah wishes, he will resurrect him
for accounting and requital.
It is not like the believer imagines. He
thinks he has fulfilled the rights of Allah
upon him, but he has not fulfilled the
obligatory
actions Allah put upon him. So the
So the human who disbelieves that Allah should
look at the food he eats,
how did he come to acquire it?
It originates from the rain descending from the
sky with force and in abundance.
Then we split open the earth so it
springs forth with plants.
Then we make grains grow on it like
wheat, corn, and other things.
And we make fresh grapes and fodder grow
on it so it can be feed for
your livestock.
And we also make olives and date palms
grow on it.
We also make abundant gardens and trees grow
on it.
And we make fruits grow on it
together with things your livestock
grays.
For your benefit and the benefit of your
livestock.
So when the great shriek will come that
will deafen the ears,
the second blowing of the trumpet,
on that day, a person will run from
his brother.
And he will run from his parents.
And he will run from his wife and
children.
Each one of them will be in a
state where he will be preoccupied
from them due to the extreme anxiety of
that day.
The faces of the fortunate ones on that
day will be bright.
Laughing in happiness due to what Allah has
prepared for them out of his mercy.
And the faces of the wretched people will
have dust on them on that day.
Darkness will come over them.
Those described above in that state will be
the ones who combine disbelief
and transgression.
One of the things that Allah directs our
attention to in this Surah is to reflect
over what we are created from. You know,
the fact that we came from dirty liquid
and that eventually will be turned to dust.
This should make a person humble because that's
the role of the human being to be
humble
and obedient to his Lord. And Allah also
directs our attention to reflect over our food.
You know, what's the origin of our food?
Where did it come from? How do you
get to our plate? So the next time
we sit down for a meal, we should
look over this, you know, all the processes
that it went through in order to get
to our plate. And this leads us to
being grateful to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. That
without any effort, we have this abundance of
food in front of us and this is
a huge blessing. Another important thing in this
Surah is Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala describes the
state of the people on Yawmul Qiyamah.
When the second blowing of the trumpet occurs
and the people are resurrected, the prophet salallahu
alayhi wa sallam said
that we will be resurrected
barefoot, naked, and uncircumcised.
And one of his wife said that we
will be looking at one another, we'll be
looking at each other's nakedness.
And the prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said that
the matter is gonna be much more severe
than that. We're not gonna have time or
even be concerned about looking at one another
because we'll be only concerned about ourselves.
And even the prophets on that day will
be seeing Nifsi Nifsi, myself, myself.
And who do we turn to when we
need something? If we need help, we turn
to the ones who are closest to us.
And it is the people that will be
asked are the ones that are gonna be
running away. The closest people to us. We
might need one good deed just to tip
the scale in our favor and we will
go to the ones that we love, the
ones who will do anything for us But
our brothers, our sisters, our parents, our children,
our spouses,
everyone will turn away and will be only
concerned about themselves.
We will only be concerned about saving ourselves.
And Allah tells us about the events of
the hereafter so that we prepare for it.
So that we utilize our time in this
life to prepare for the hereafter.
Because this is temporary and that is everlasting.
And we try to utilize our time and
put forth our best effort
so that on that day, our faces will
be radiant,
and we will be the ones who will
be enjoying
and laughing
and not the ones whose faces will be
dark, and the ones who will be doomed
forever. Until next time.
