Welcome back to another episode of Soul Food.
I'm really happy to have you guys here
with us today on this August 13th day,
of, of 2020.
Taking COVID one day at a time, one
week at a time, obviously.
You know, we're, we're we're all in this
together. And,
we're we're already, man, in month
6 of, of this challenge that Allah has
given us. But We're all going through this.
With,
and dignity.
So, we're here.
How are you? I can sound good. How
are you? Can you guys hear me well?
Everything's pretty
Sounds good on my end. Y'all wanted to
know on on my screen, if you guys
can hear it pretty well
on both Instagram and Facebook and everything like
that. So let me chat in because we
we have, like, a very limited scope of
hearing because right now we have.
I can't really hear anything on Facebook, but
it's up to y'all to tell us how
we're good in terms of audio. So My
volume's all the way down on Facebook. So
I don't know what Yeah. Yeah. Exactly.
Y'all gonna let us know. Bahamulah,
today, we have a really good treat actually
for for all of us in social.
You know, this is something you know, this
story is something that a
lot of people may actually glimpse over from
the the the the story of Prophet Musa.
Right? Prophet Musa's narrative is the one that
we've been talking about over the past 3
months now this at Solfu.
But one of the things that if you
actually, you know, it's almost like, it's almost
like if you read to the end of
the story, but you don't read like the
last page, you might miss something really interesting.
The last, you know, you know, you you
pieces of social process
involves a whole new narrative about a whole
new person,
which is really interesting because most people will
stop reading out the story of Prophet News
that they think is done. A lot of
them use some piece of advice, sometimes overdone
with the on of
the sort. But
but but if you read the verse 76
if you read the verse 76, there's a
really, really interesting
life story
of
and
inside the life of the problem side of
the stuff. Okay? And
describes this and he actually calls them out
by today. And so when Allah
almost calls somebody out there in me, it's
actually a very, very unique story because Allah
wants us to know certain details in his
life, right? So Allah says,
right? That that man, and his name is
Farum. Farum, by the way, I'm Arabic. Right?
I
so the thoughts might be numbered on this
is that we cannot
from from from the research that we have
done, probably, actually, the Arabic word, they can
be found there. The dictionary is not not
really a
a a a meaning that you can find
out or learn from the Arabic standpoint. But
he was named a and
he was a lot less than the people
in USA. Canada, meaning Musa. He was from
the people in Musa. He was from the
people in Musa. He was from the the
tribe of the.
Who was exactly?
There are a couple of different opinions on
what I really was.
Some, you know, trends in areas, you know,
And so this big story, a little bit
of interest. Right? Like, who was this long
lost relative
community member that prophet Musa had with the
guy?
Because we haven't heard about this.
And
like, elaborated on this before with the story
of prophet
Yoon
a reader of the Quran, but whatever is
not in it, it's we don't need to
know. But whatever is in it is something
that's very much beneficial for us as the
readers and the viewer. Right? Right. And so
in this first I I'm
not talking about this at Tarun. Okay? And
they say that, you know, Allah Subhanahu Wa
Ta'ala says that we gave him immense wealth.
Was extremely wealthy. He was a very, very
rich man.
And
this book of of of of faith and
that he was well versed and he was
a believer.
And, you know, but
sometimes, this is so interesting. I'll I'll I'll
actually see her and get her cell phone
that sometimes,
we
test them, like,
if that makes sense to people that, you
know, look, we have the stereotype that
you're being tested by God. It means that
we're getting something taken away from us. Right?
It's like almost like the idea of negative
reinforcement versus positive reinforcement. Allah punishes us. He's
taking my wealth away. He's taking people away
from me that I love. He is taking
away a job or taking away something. But
sometimes,
it just does a lot of that.
And,
you know,
here, we're probably a lot of people in
in a ridiculous amount of while. And I
was saying ridiculous because if this here is
the thing
that, you know, of him, treasure from
key would be a burden amongst strong men.
Absolutely.
The scripture is gonna be saying that, Harun
was so rich. He was so wealthy
that the keys to his vault of of
wealth would be carried by, like, local
strong men with local people. Like, just the
keys. Yeah.
Sorry. What did you say?
And they
hand out hand what? Exactly. It was actually
described as a burden for the people carrying
it. They couldn't carry it. And and I
would actually ask the question, if you can
imagine a person who's rich to the point
where their the keys to their vault are
so heavy and the and multiple strong men
couldn't carry it, Imagine
what treasures lie within the bolts themselves. How
rich must this person actually be?
And I want you guys to imagine not
like, you know, a Chase account or like
a, you know, you know, whatever bank account
that you bank with. But, you know, imagine
back in the day people actually or their
tangible wealth in vaults and and and and,
like, with gold, silver, jewelry, whatever it may
be.
And I don't have so much that people
would literally
be carrying his keys for him. His keys
were so heavy. Right? And
in this and and one of the things
that Karun also do, which is really interesting,
is that Karun
used to also at this point,
be a very big
show off of his wealth and wealth. Right?
Right? You know, you have those people who
are extremely wealthy, but they're really humble. They
don't like to show off that they have
that that they have that. You know, we
can we know people like this in our
lives too. You know, they make so much
money, and they have so much wealth that
Allah has lost them with, but they'll drive
like a like a 2005 Toyota Camry. Right?
Because, like, you know what? Like, what what
what is wealth at the end of the
day? Right? It's just a means of getting
what I want in my life. And then,
you know, at the end of my life,
it's gone. Right? But there are certain people
who, when they're wealthy,
they it's like a part of them to
give off and show off that wealth. Right.
They want everyone to know. So Karun, when
he used to go and withdraw money and
wealth from his vault, used to have these
men go and carry his keys to the
vault, and he used to make sure people
saw them carrying these keys or struggling,
should I say, to carrying these keys. And
so the people used to tell him, they
used to tell Faroo, they said,
that, you know, don't don't don't exalt. Right?
Don't don't show off because Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala gives people Musa by those. They were
trained by Musa. Right? This is like one
of the greatest prophets of all time. And
Musa taught people don't be arrogant because you
had this other example of a fool over
here named pharaoh, and and this dude was,
like, the most arrogant human being of all
time. And so the people of prophet Musa,
they
looked at Qarun, they're like they're like,
you know that this isn't like a good
thing to do, right? Being arrogant is not
nice. And so maybe you shouldn't do so
much. And they say,
like Allah does not love the people who
are arrogant and exalt themselves, you know, with
the amount of happiness they haven't thrown on
other people's faces to make them feel bad
about it. And so now in verse 77,
I'll ask us how the father would have
kind of explained to us. And here in
verse 77 is really interesting because in here
now,
the people of prophet Musa, it's not kind
of reach out to. Right? And they tell
them a little bit about what they think.
So start off, go ahead and take it
away, Shama. I found that this this part
of the story of Carmen's Carmen's life is,
like, really interesting
and it's kinda like how our life is.
You know, you you're with a group of
people. You guys are friends. You're, you know,
your neighbors, your friends, your part of a
community.
And what's so beautiful about these verses is
that they're advising him. Right? They're like, listen
here, you're our brother. Like, you're somebody. You're
my friend. You're my brother. You're my neighbor.
Like, you know, you just came into some
wealth and that's great. Like, no hating here.
Like, we're not haters. We don't you know,
we could care less
about how much wealth you have, how much
wealth you don't have, but you don't need
to be walking
everything. It's like somebody, you know, coming into
wealth and then buying a a Bentley, for
example, and deciding to do, like, donuts in
multiple neighborhoods so everybody can see that they
got a Bentley. Knee. Like, you know, there's
no need to there's no need to walk
because god doesn't like show show offs. Like,
I'm not jealous of you. Just know that
god doesn't like show offs. And what what
I really like is that the next part
of what they say to him, they say,
They said, you know what? You should do
you should, you know, take
what they tell him that, you know, you
should be okay with what God has given
you. Like, you should recognize that these blessings
are are for you.
They said that, you know,
realize that you have
something that you're supposed to gain in this
world.
So they're not telling him, okay. You need
to be poor now.
Like, go and give all your wealth away.
Be poor. They're telling him
that you do have things that you have
to gain in this world,
but you need to you need to not
be so, like, so
arrogant about it. It didn't come from you.
Like, God gave it to you. Remember that
Allah gave it to you. Like, basically, they're
like, humble yourself, bruh. Like, you need to
sit down. K? You're at a 10 and
we need you at a 5. Basically, that's
what they're letting him know. And they said
they they're giving him, like, such a good
advice that, like,
your your
your,
what is meant by who you are as
a person, how great you are as a
person, it's not about your wealth. They say,
be good to people like Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala has been good to you.
That you got this stuff, you got all
this money, you got all this wealth
because God was good to you, not from
your own doing. That there are people who
will work day in, day out. They'll do
everything in their book to try to get
a lot of money, but if it's not
written for you, then you won't have it.
And you have people who just sit down
and fuck on Instagram and make, what, $70,000.
Like, I post one picture, it makes $70,000.
That but that's what God had written for
them. So they gave them advice. They said
that what you really should be working on
is being good to people like God is
good to you. And then they say, well,
that's a good facade that's in our and
stop being, like, a troublemaker. Like, you just
wanna walk around spreading all this corruption. Like,
why do you guys start some drama? Don't
start drama.
Allah doesn't like people who start drama. Allah
doesn't like people who are typeling, who who
spread this type of, like, hatred. Like, people
are gonna start hating you because you don't
invite that.
And so instead of caught in the room,
like, taking this advice as, like, these are
my brothers and sisters who are coming and
giving me advice,
he tells them that, like, I got this
wealth min that he says, Allah, ilmen, indi.
Like, I got this wealth from my own
knowledge. Basically, I know how to I know
how to flip a 100, basically. Like, he's
saying, like, I I run these streets. Like,
I'm the one who made this. I'm the
one who made myself. I'm self made. With
a small loan of blessings from God, I'm
self made. Like, I did this all by
myself. And so that that that level of
arrogance is where he he didn't even mess
up at the arrogance of just exposing all
of his wealth. But when he said that
I got here all by myself, I got
here just from my own knowledge, that's when
he really messed up. You know? So I
wanted to kinda get your thoughts on that
too, Saf
Safi. Yeah. This is really interesting when you
were kind of mentioning the idea that, like,
the the people of Bani Israel were actually
kind of like they they were giving him,
like, sincere honest advice. Right? Like, they were
actually telling him, like, don't like we're not
telling you to be like this, like, saint
and, like, you know, just give up all
your money and be a poor person and
live for the sake of Allah and Allah
only and, you know, like bankrupt your family
and be, you know, be a person who
pays all the time. We were saying, you
know, enjoy your walk. Right? Enjoy it. There's
nothing wrong with, you know, being a person
who,
is satisfied with the blessings that Allah has
given them. You know? And really important for
all our young folks that are actually tuning
in right now is that there's a big
misunderstanding that, like, if I enjoy anything in
this life, it's actually like a haram thing.
It's not true. Right? Like, you are,
like, at all. You know? All Islam tells
you is don't let yourself be
corrupted by the blessings that you've been given.
Don't let your blessings turn into your advice.
Right? Because wealth can be a huge blessing
for people. Right? Wealth is a means of
taking care of your family. Wealth is a
means of taking care of the community. Wealth
is a means of giving stuff out to
other people that have less than you. But
wealth can also be a means of correcting
the heart. Just like people like like Farooq,
for example. Like, it's so interesting because all
the fatima how you have, like, people in
the Quran that are examples like prophet and
prophet Dawood who are also, like, crazy rich.
Right? Prophet was a king.
Like, he He asked for that loss. Exactly.
Absolutely.
He he like, so so that's another kind
of proof that the father just brought up
that, you know, it's not wrong to ask
Allah
to give him certain things in life better
that that you want. And Prophet Sulliman proved
that he that it's doable. It's definitely doable
to be a person who gains a lot
of blessing in this earth. And this is
why, by the way, this Dua exists. Right?
That
you should ask Allah for the best in
this life. Right? There's nothing wrong with that.
But what the example of Karun shows us
is that what happens when you allow the
blessings in your life to turn into something
that brings you away from Allah. Right? And
so when and that's the really interesting thing
about Qarun is that, you know, it says
here,
you know, in in verse, I'll I'll backtrack
a little bit just really quickly to kind
of explain here is that in verse 76,
he actually, you know, there's it says,
means, like, you know, he he rebelled against
his people. He rebelled against his people. When
his people gave him advice, he didn't like
it. He didn't like it. And, you know,
an example of this I was up to
should actually say is that one of the
reasons why Karun felt so hard off of,
like, this
this this this train of being raped with
Allah is because he was jealous of Prophet
Musa and Harun that they were given this
position of, like, you know, they were close
to Allah and they were given the leadership
of the people of Bani Israel. And Harun
was like, yo, like, why not me? And
one of the amazing things that Prophet Musa
actually said back to him was that, not
it's not a choice that I made. Allah
gave it to us. Like I had no
choice in this. And none of the prophets
had choices in this, that the prophets were
chosen by Allah.
And when Karun heard that, he became extremely
uneasy with that premises.
That why I should have been chosen just
as much as Harun and Musa. They're they're
they're they're my people. Right? Like, they're people
from my community. So why are they, like,
why are they chosen to leave money as
Israel and why am I not? And so
he rebelled against his people. He actually, you
know, as far as they say that he
almost looks like a hypocrite amongst the people.
He was like a seller. He almost like,
he almost like enslaved his own people because
of the power and the love that he
had. So in verse,
so in verse 79
of this Surah, it says here that he
at one point in his story, it says
that,
So he came out before his people
that that,
he adorned himself. Like, he basically dressed himself
up and all of his wealth, and he
wore the nicest clothing. And he made sure
that everyone knew that he was wealthy.
And he basically what and long story short,
for all of our understanding, he flaunted what
he had. Like, he basically shown everyone that
he was, like, worth his net worth was
in the 1,000,000,000. Right? And he walked out
and he came out and he's, like, Bentley,
his Rolls Royce,
his his clothes made out of, like, like,
gold and jewelry and all these different types
of wealth. And so at this point, the
people of Bunny, Israel saw him. And human
beings are human beings at the end of
the day, man. Like, you know, sometimes we
dream. Right? We're like, oh, man. Like, it
must be real nice. I remember when my
wife and I, we actually went to,
we visited LA last last year after Ramadan
when we're still allowed to travel.
We're still at the travel.
And we went to LA,
and we were,
just really enjoying, like, walking down one of
the boardwalks,
you know, on the shore. And we saw
all these homes. Right? We saw all these
homes, like, the beach homes that are, you
know, kind of,
paralleling the the water.
And the beach homes,
like, they're super nice, like, really beautiful. I
don't saw the. I'm sure you've seen, you
know, someone you traveled that and sometimes you're
still there, you're like, man.
Like, that must be nice. Right? Like, that's,
like, where we get that's where we get
the phrase, man. Must be nice. Right?
That's all that. In Cape Cod, like, the
tip of Massachusetts.
Right there, we're, like, wet there's, like, 52
beaches on Cape Cod.
So and, like, the houses are so enormous
And, like, I'm like, just wake up and
just see the ocean of the lost pump.
I will like Oh, yeah. You're like, man,
like, that that would be real nice. Right?
Like, that must be real cool. And so
the people of prophet Musa,
the one they saw Qadr walk out with,
like, all of his adornment, Allah describes that
as zenatihi. Right? Like, all of his
his his his his his his glow up,
he basically got all his sky on that
day. And
they said those who desire the worldly life,
the people who desire the worldly life, they
said,
oh, man. Like, what we would do, you
know, would that we had like that was
with that that was given to Karun. Like,
what would it be like if we had
what Allah gave to Karun? Okay? And they
said that they said about him. They said,
that he was, like, one of those who
was, like, given tremendous
fortune. Like, Allah just, like, laid out fortune
for him. But, you know, what's really interesting
is that Karun keeps on telling all these
people that, you know what?
Said that, like, oh, I'm the one. I'm
self made. Right? Like, this dude got them,
like, just vehemently
denying Allah in his life. He was like,
like, all these people putting Israel were just
like, man, this is awesome, man. You're like,
that's that's crazy. You got so much wealth
and they're like, and
Tarun was like, no.
Not, this was me. Right? This is all
the stuff that I did. You know, we
all know people in our lives, may Allah
protect us, where we start to kinda get
this feeling that, like, oh, yeah. Everything that
I did, I did it myself.
You know? Like, I worked hard myself. I
made this salary myself. I got my education
myself. I'm the one who did it all.
Me me me me me. And to be
quite honest, to be very real with you
all, it's getting way harder
to not be of that mentality as time
continues on in this life.
You know? Where it seems like there are
so many outlets and platforms where you're just,
like, promoting yourself yourself yourself yourself, where it
becomes really hard
to actually show gratitude to anything.
Right now? And it's very hard. And this
is the most tempting thing y'all. You know,
like, when you're being praised, you're like, oh,
masha'Allah, you have a degree from where? Oh,
wow. You work for them? It's very hard
to be like, oh, I don't know, you
know, like, Allah just kinda put some stuff
together for me and I just kinda I
remember
It feels awkward.
Exactly. Like like, oh, no. It's often died.
Exactly. Exactly. And it's hard. It's be like
it should be like, oh, yeah. You know,
alhamdulillah. You know? But but you know what's
crazy? The most humble people I've ever met
in my life, and I saw that Fatima,
you can kinda elaborate on this as well.
The most humble people in my life that
are successful, that I know of, that are
super successful in life, they don't really talk
too much about what they do. They don't
talk about, like like, oh, yeah. You know,
it's just a means of me putting food
on the table for my family and, like,
you know, it's it's work. Right? I just
gotta go and just do my thing, and
I come back home. But, you know, I'm
just I'm just a normal person. The people
who unfortunately are, like, the most insecure about
their their own lives are the ones that
constantly talk about what they do. Do. Right?
And Qaul was like that. Like, prophet
didn't have to, like, blow up in front
of people. Like, people knew Surayman was like,
he had it all. Right? Like and Soleiman
didn't talk about it. He's all he did,
he was like, man, I'm just gonna pray
to Allah. You know, I'm happy that I
have what I have, and I'm grateful. I'm
gonna tell people that, you know, you should
be grateful for what you have, and I
and and that's it. And those are real
successful people, the people who don't really have
to talk about what they do because their
work speaks for itself. Well, for people like
Arun, they're like, oh, yeah. That was me.
You know what degrees I have? You know
what job I have? You know what I
do to get there? This is all the
things that I did in my life. Right?
Like, those are the people and ironically, without
a thought, I want you to kinda elaborate
on this as we kinda, like I I
I would actually,
like, I wanna get your thoughts on, like,
versus 80 and 81. Is that, you know,
those are sometimes for me personally, and I'm
just gonna be like me just kind of
venting here. Those are sometimes the most annoying
people.
The ones who constantly talk about themselves. Right?
Like, oh, I did this, me, this, me,
that. You know? And I'm just sitting here
like, uh-huh.
Uh-huh. No. That's cool. Right? And this is
the point where, by the way, like, a
pro tip right here for life y'all. I'm
not, you know, I'm I'm only 27, so
there are people way older than me. But
pro tip here, if you want to, like,
gain really, really sincere relationships in life, don't
just talk about yourself. Ask yourself. A good
listener.
Exactly.
He's actually a better listener than you are
a talker.
Absolutely. Absolutely. That in the life of the
prophet, he was somebody who sat down and
he listened to people. Like when the prophet
came into to Medina
and everybody was waiting for them to arrive,
they went and they started to, like, you
know, kiss Abu Bakr because they thought that
Abu Bakr
who was the prophet because of, you know,
the props there was no distinction between them.
Like, the prophet wasn't like, okay. I need
a 100 men to cure me and, like,
let me come in, make sure it's a
parade, make sure I have this color flowers.
And if you don't, you know, get me
on my good side, then we're we're doing
the entrance all over again. People get it
like, he wasn't like that, you know. And
so
when we come across, you know, situations where
people may be in great jobs, they may
be in good, you know, education systems and
so on and so forth, it it's not
for us to
boast about ourselves. Like, yeah, you can be
very proud of yourself and say, like, you
know, life was hard. It was difficult. I
was able to accomplish x, y, and z,
but you don't need to boast about yourself.
You don't have to do a whole, like,
you know, dissertation about all of the things
you accomplished in life and how great you
are,
especially if you're trying like, Usas Afi, you
mentioned. You're trying to
really develop a healthy or a a true
genuine relationship with somebody. I know for me,
like, I'm the type of person that I
do I enjoy listening a lot. I enjoy
listening to people's life or whatever.
But,
I don't enjoy people putting me down. You
know? If somebody's talked to me and they're
like, yeah. I did this. I know you
only did this. Like, then it's kinda like,
okay. You get that a lot in life,
like, especially in college.
You know, I don't know how many of
you guys go to community college, but I'm
I went to community college. And I remember
that me, my cousins, and a couple of
my friends, we all went to community college
together.
And I remember people ask us, like, what
college did you go to? And we'll say,
like, oh, we went to this college or
whatever, which is a community college. It was
known there. And people will say things like,
oh, is that a real college? Well, I
go to Yale. I'm like, okay. That's great.
I'm happy that, you know, you're spending your
parents' savings on your education. Like, great. Congratulations.
You know what I'm saying? Like, it becomes
awkward. It's an awkward conversation. What am I
supposed to say to this? What am I
not supposed to say? So it's so important
for us to be mindful in the conversation.
It's so important for us to be people
who, when we're talking in that conversation, we
make sure that we're also listening to people.
We're also trying to genuinely get to know
them, trying to get beyond the superficial things
of what society tells us that we should
know about people, you know. And I find
it so interesting with Karim because he was
from Banu Isayel. Like, he came from the
trenches. Like, literally, Like, there were people who
were oppressed and things of that nature. And
it's, like, the prime definition of
making it and leaving your people behind. It's
the prime definition definition of making it and
not recognizing where that blessing came from. And
he literally said that, like, it came from
me. I did all of this. I got
through the trenches by myself. Like, you
know, like, sometimes you hear, like, rappers and
singers and stuff talk about how, you know,
they grew up in a very rough time
and people always joke, like, oh, but your
mom didn't do anything for you? Like, your
parents tried. Your parents worked hard, put you
in the systems that you're in in education.
Like, there are there's so much more than
just you
that's involved with your success, whether you recognize
it or not, whether you want to acknowledge
it or not. But that's what keeps you
humble. Even if it's the motivation of being
successful in spite of somebody, That person gave
you motivation,
you know? And so it's a very humbling
moment. And so after they give him all
of this advice and they tell him all
these things, Allah then says the people who
they are more concerned with the dunya, they're
more concerned with the flashy cars and the
the gold and the silver and all the
big houses and all of these things. Those
people were like, men, that man won. He
won. And you may be right. He won
in this life
because that's what you're just looking at. You're
just looking at this life. But then the
last prophet says in verse number 80, he
says, but,
that the people who knew what the realness,
the people who knew what they what needed
to be known, the people who had knowledge,
the people who knew what's up, that they
were the ones who were actually, like, way.
They told their people, like, don't fall into
this trap.
You know, you need to guard yourself. Don't
fall into this trap.
That's the the reward that Allah will give
us later for all that we've endured, that
is much better.
That the one that Allah the reward
will give to the one who believed. And
not only did you believe, did good deeds
and worked hard,
but that reward is so much better, and
it will only be given to those who
are patient. And patience doesn't mean that you're
just sitting down in the middle of a
storm, but what patience means is that you
recognize as a storm, you recognize that life
is tough, but you keep it pushing.
You do the best that you can to
keep your faith in God, and you do
the best that you can to keep going.
And so Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala then talks
about the destruction of Karun. And what's interesting
is that maybe we'll when we talk about
this verse, people will be like, well, why
is the destruction of Karun so, you know,
harsh or whatever? Karun did destroyed himself.
He destroyed himself when he refused to recognize
that God is the one who put him
in this earth and God is the one
who gave him these things when he refused
to realize that, like, you have to be
grateful to God. That, Allah,
he's given us so much, and there's so
much for us to be grateful for. There's
so much to acknowledge Allah
about. There's so much to acknowledge God about.
When he refused to be grateful, he destroyed
himself.
And I wanna just backtrack very quickly because
in the previous ayah,
in the I number
sorry.
Oh, here it is. In ayah number 78,
what's really interesting here is that when Carlene
says that, listen, I got this all by
myself. I did this all by myself. I
got here by myself.
Then the people Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala then
talks about he says,
that do not
you're saying all of this. It's like somebody
talking trash behind a, like, a wall. You're
saying all of this, but do you not
realize that there are people who came before
you that were destroyed?
Nations. There were generations of people who got
destroyed.
And then there were people who were better
than him. Like, they have far more wealth
than him, far more power than him. Combined,
they were bigger than him.
There were people who carved their homes out
of mountains.
There are people who had so much wealth
that they could have, like, bankrolled their whole
world. They were far better than him, and
Allah destroyed them in the blink of an
eye because of their arrogance.
And you have the nerve to not learn
from history,
and you're coming here and you're saying that,
oh, I got all of this by myself.
And so Allah says, well, since you got
all of this by yourself,
this is your destruction.
That
Allah says we caused the earth to just
swallow him. Imagine you have so much wealth
on this earth that people don't even have
the power to be able to carry the
keys to open your vault, and you just
fall through the ground.
You you died in the most easy way.
You died from a fall to the ground.
The the ground just opened up and ate
you, swallowed you. He was gone.
And what's so interesting when I think about
this is that no more no matter how
much power you think you have in this
world, remember that God has more power than
that.
And when you remember that, then when times
are hard, you're able to call upon him.
And when times are difficult
are easy, you're able to call upon him.
Because when we think of ourselves as bigger
than Allah, then Allah shows us.
You know, Allah will show us. And so
then it says,
that there will be nothing or no one
there to even be able to help him.
He had no room to help him. He
had no help at all. And don't you
think that somebody who has so much wealth
could have somebody help him pull him off
the ground?
But if God isn't destined for you, if
the lost didn't want him to survive, then
guess what? He wasn't gonna survive because the
most powerful is Allah
And then it says
that he there was nobody to help him
against Allah
and he couldn't even defend himself.
Like, he couldn't even help himself.
All of that wealth meant nothing.
And so these verses, they're so interesting because
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala shows us that, like,
you can have everything in this world,
but it's absolutely nothing if you don't acknowledge
how much God has done for you. It's
absolutely nothing if you don't put your trust
in Allah. It's absolutely nothing if you don't
have that. If you don't believe in God
and you truly believe in him, then all
the things that you have, your nice house,
your nice car, your nice shoes, your nice
clothes, your great education, all of that means
nothing.
It's nothing. You know you know, something was
a lot of Fazma, I wanna kinda, like,
you know, reflect with you here.
One of the things that, you know, when
when he says,
he, you know, that that that the earth,
you know, it swallowed him up.
That the earth literally opened up and swallowed
him up, and he died very quickly. You
know, he died extremely quickly.
One of the things that I think that's
really important for us to reflect over is
that
a side effect or I would say, like,
a side hope
of people who like to mask their
their their own insecurities with wealth and power,
They want this kind of, like, invincible
aura about their legend. You know? Like, they
want to be remembered forever. I want to
be the most famous person of all time.
I want to be exactly. My legacy. I
want to be the wealthiest man of all
time. I want to be someone who is
who people never forget. When they say people
when they say my name, Arun, they're gonna
be like, Arun was the richest man who
ever lived on this earth. You know?
When they say this, they are the I'm
gonna I'm gonna be the most beautiful person
that's ever lived on this earth.
But one of the the scariest thing is
that when that's your intention,
Allah will cause you to be completely forgotten.
Yep. Allah will cause you to be completely
forgotten. You know? But you know who is
known to be the most beautiful person ever.
You sip profit. You sip profit.
Yeah. But probably using, like, we know. Like,
you know, even if you don't know much
about the the story of it, when you
know it, when you when you hear it,
you feel like, oh, yeah. That's a good
one. Right? Yeah. Like and and he never
wanted that. He never wanted it. He was
a little bit like this. We got thrown
in a well by his brothers. He's like
one of the young ones of the of
of the group. He got, you know, picked
up by traveling caravan, got pulled up from
the, you know, servitude to this couple in
in Egypt, and he never wants to. But,
yeah, man, I know I'm good looking, so
I'm just gonna make sure that everyone remembers
that about me. No, man. Like, people who
really, really are good and people who are
humble, they'll be remembered till the end of
time. Yeah. That was the one that the
best man who ever walked this earth. Say
it was what he's called. Right? The best
of creation.
Did he ever once say, yeah. Yeah. I'm
the best of creation. Right? Like, I'm I'm
the best human being to ever exist. He
never said that about himself. He He was
humble, man. This guy, even though he knew
he was forgiven for all of his sins,
would stay up night making dua to Allah
forgive him. You know? And now
1400
years later,
he
is widely
by by 2,500,000,000
people on this earth to be the best
human being to ever exist.
But the people like Qarun were obsessed with
their own image, and they're like, yeah. I
want people to remember me. I want people
to know that I'm wealthy. Allah boom. Just
like that. Now you're gonna be an area
that's gonna swallow you up. Culture is gonna
stop you up. And no one, even 10
years down the line, would ever remember who
you were. And now the only place that
Qadun is referenced is in reference to his
arrogance.
Like, it's crazy. That's
unbelievable to me that, you know Yep.
The the, you know, sometimes the end do
justify the means. Right?
And and and the story of Qaruba really
proves that. Right? That that, you know, man,
you live your life in a humble way
and Allah will make you a legend.
Allah will make you a legend. You don't
need to speak for yourself. Allah will speak
for you. Allah will literally remind people who
you were in your life. You know, your
kids will preserve you. Your grandchildren preserve you.
Your family will preserve you. You don't have
to talk about yourself.
You know? That's that's the amazing thing about
you're really truly humble successful people is that
they don't have to talk about themselves because
other people,
they're like, man, this dude, you know.
He he he he or she's got you
know, she is like she she's really a
a role model, a phenomenal human being. Right?
Right. They don't have a say to themselves.
The people who always always always somewhat somehow
struggle are the people who constantly feel they
have a talk about ourselves. Mhmm. I just
want to
for all of our,
attendees here today is
if you do think you're right, Brian. If
you do think properly and if you always
hit your head, you know, low to the
ground and always, you know, make sure that
you are with the people,
Allow will only make you to the rank
where you would have never thought you would
be.
But if you're a person who's constantly feel
the other talk about your
Tell people this and help people that. Unless
a lot of you know,
remember that is is what you told them.
You know? No. You're you're not gonna remember
that obviously because you do all the time.
Right? So always remember that when it comes
to, you know, the idea of humility, the
idea of, of being on to earth, being
a person who's really with the other people
around around
Jia.
With that, we'll wrap for today. That was
an awesome discussion. I really appreciate that.
Hopefully, if you guys, enjoyed that, make sure
that you continue to keep our roots in
any way that you can.
I know that, you know, we found a
post today,
on Instagram,
catching some grass with, like, an x mark
on the spot. So make some dua, inshallah.
We are in the works of opening up
some space,
outdoors for us to hold some
limited capacity events, for our community.
Not many of the live streams are gonna
disappear, the live stream can continue just as
much as they were before because obviously we
know who the Ruth community is a very,
very vast community that goes much past the
area of Dallas from the live goes all
over the country and perhaps all over the
world. And and so just he's gonna make
the operation insha'Allah. And, you know, we ask
Allah, subhanahu wa ta'ala, to always accept everything
that we do and forgive her for any
of the mistakes and the forgiveness we have.
And in any way, if we hurt anybody,
we ask Allah to forgive us.
For me,
