Developing a Quranic personality
to be and what not to be. Truth
and truthfulness
is referenced directly over a 100 times in
the holy
Quran.
And it is one of the pillars on
which the moral survival of the world depends.
In fact,
Allah says,
Allah created the heavens and the earth with
truth.
And truthfulness is among the basis
of praiseworthy
characters
characteristics.
And any
of the characteristics of human beings that are
considered noble,
truth and truthfulness
is amongst the most noble of all of
them. And therefore,
even all the prophet
alaihi wasallam, our prophet and all the other
prophets, salawatullah,
we found that
they had an essential feature of themselves which
was honesty and truthfulness.
They were never accused
of being liars.
People may have differed with the message, opposed
the message
And therefore you find
Rasool Allahu alaihi wa sallam 2 points.
Even in his youth before he received revelation,
he was he was called the people called
him a sadeq nalamin, the truthful and the
trustworthy. It was before receiving revelation.
And much later in life
when Muslim envoys went to different parts of
the world, when they went to Heraclius, the
Roman King,
and they gave him the message of Islam
and they told him they were envoys of
prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. One of
the questions according to the Qasir that he
asked the Muslim envoy.
He
asked,
did you ever accuse him of dishonesty or
of lying about things
before he claimed to receive revelation?
Before he said what he said? And the
envoy said, never accused him of lying.
So he said,
If he did not lie about people, regarding
people, he will not lie about God.
Even a young Muslim
looking at the truthfulness
of the message he received
knows the fact that
truthfulness and honesty
is a feature and characteristic of reliable people.
So though a person of integrity may have
many characteristics
by which he or she could be identified,
among the most outstanding one
is honesty and
lesson for us
lesson for us
2 young Jewish men
2 young Jewish men were traveling on foot
in the olden days And as they were
going, they got lost on the way. And
eventually, in the heat of the sun,
they found that they don't know which way
they're going. And they tried this way and
that way. And then eventually as they walked,
they saw a minaret.
And they thought there must be a village
there.
So the 2 Jewish men said, look, let's
go to there. There's a village there, but
there's a mosque there also. And it's Ramadan,
so somebody should be in the mosque. These
Muslims, they fast in Ramadan. So somebody will
be in the mosque doing some form of
prayer. Let's go there. But the one told
the other,
when you go to the mosque, tell them
we are Muslim. Don't say we are Jews.
So the other one said,
no. We can't why must we lie? Tell
them the truth. We are lost. We are
Jewish. We're going somewhere. Tell them the truth.
So they went to the masjid.
They They came there and the imam they
found the imam there, an elder imam, and
they explained to the imam the situation.
And, the one said my name is Abdullah
and I'm Muslim.
I'm Abdullah and I'm Muslim.
And the other one said, well, I'm Khaim
and I'm Jewish.
So the imam said, don't worry. We know
you lost. We'll sort you out. Don't worry.
We'll help you. We'll do whatever we can
to help you. And he told them, I
think, do me a favor. Please get some
nice cold water, some nice milk, and get
some nice fresh fruit for kaiyim.
So the other guy said, what about me?
So the imam said, in 3 hours time
is iftar, then you all Muslims will break
fast.
Honesty is indeed the best policy. Be careful.
Honesty and truthfulness
should be the core of a believer's
character.
And speaking the truth is not a favor.
Some people think being truthful is like, masha'Allah.
No.
Speaking the truth should be should not be
seen as separate
component of a Muslim character. You don't say
a person, he makes salah and mashallah, he
made wudu also before that. It's a condition
for you to make salah to a wudu.
There's no in
that. So similarly here, part of the characteristic
of a truthful person of a believer is
that he or she is by nature, by
virtue of being a Muslim, of taking shahada
that they are of those who are truthful.
And in fact, it is the doorway to
righteousness.
Truthfulness
is one of the most beautiful traits.
Traits of the prophets, all the prophets.
And the opposite of truthfulness,
deliberate lying and deceiving is among the most
negative traits. And that's why the Rasool in
a very famous hadith, salallahu alayhi wasalam, documented
the Sahih of Imam Muslim,
warned us about one thing and advised us
and recommended us one thing.
He
said, I warn you, be careful
of lying or of telling lies
because
lying leads to wrongfulness,
and wrongfulness
leads to the fire.
It's obligatory upon you
to be truthful and to be honest. For
truthfulness leads towards righteousness.
And righteousness leads to paradise.
Let us be truthful
so that our truthfulness, Insha'Allah,
can pave the way for us to paradise.
