Developing the Quranic personality
to be and what not to be.
We know that human beings
are social beings.
And as social beings, communication
is absolutely essential
for human interaction.
And as human beings, we communicate in a
variety of ways. Among the ways we communicate
is verbal like what I'm doing right now.
It can be written, it can be sensory
by touch.
Just by the hand and you understand what
it means.
Or facial gestures like a frown.
The ultimate communication
through non verbal facial expression
is the smile.
It is universal
and is rarely, if ever, misunderstood.
Primitive tribes
and modern world leaders
equally know the use of it. And scientists
are convinced
that a particular gesture like the smile
actually releases
some chemical
called endorphins
into the human system when you do it.
And this creates a feeling of mild euphoria
or
seeming happiness, it seems.
A facial expression that is multilingual
and is international.
Transcending language barriers,
transcending cultural barriers.
Wise ones have said
that successful people have 2 things on their
lips
and on their face
smile and silence.
Smile can solve problems
and silence
can avoid
them. The grace call of hadith ibn Battal,
he wrote a commentary on
Sahih Muslim.
He
said,
He said, to meet people with a smile
and a
cheerful face
is among the behavioral practices of all prophets,
peace be upon them.
In fact, in Sahih al Bukhali it's documented
that jari'b ibn Abdullah radiAllahu anhu companion said,
'Abdu'l Jariel Abdulla says, 'Since I embrace Islam,
the messenger of Allah never refused me when
I asked him for an audience. He never
refused me. And whenever I met him, I
never saw him except that he was smiling.
A smile costs nothing
but gives much.
It enriches those who receive it without making
poorer the one who gives it.
It takes but a moment,
but the memory can last for a long
time.
In Islam therefore,
smiling is considered not only a good deed
besides being a sunnah of the prophet, a
constant and consistent sunnah of the rasool, but
also a form of philanthropy or charity. That's
why Rasoolullah alaihi wasallam said,
To smile at your fellow human being
is a sign or rather is a form
of charity.
Now, it's is unfortunate
that in some circles, the more religious people
are,
they consider themselves The more religious they consider
themselves,
the less likely they are to smile.
And I found this
as a practice. It's very common. The people
who are seemingly more religious are less likely
to smile or even laugh.
And some of our people wear
the righteousness
of themselves
with such suffering
self awareness,
it robs them sometime
of the ability to positively relate to others.
The companion Abu Dhul Qafari radiAllahu an, he
said the Prophet
said, don't consider
any small thing you do, any good thing
you do, even if it's small, don't consider
it insignificant.
Even if it is that you meet your
brother with a cheerful face and a pleasant
smile.
Smile. You see a smile can be invaluable
as a message of goodwill,
and immeasurable
in promoting
positive relations.
And they say that all the statistics in
the world cannot measure the warmth of a
smile.
That's who said, you cannot satisfy people with
the money that you have or the wealth
that you possess, but you can appease them
with your cheerful face and positive character.
Little wonder the companion of Rasulullah Abu Lah
bin Hari radiAllahu an said,
I've never seen
smile as much as I saw the prophet,
salallahu alayhi wasalam smile.
So let us have a cheerful countenance,
a cheerful face when meeting people.
And let us imbibe the sunnah of the
smile.
