You see the ayah that comes right after
is not
just in vain, everything is meticulously connected, why?
Because the Qur'an is Kalaam-u-meen,
Kalaam-u-Allah, Al-Qur'an Kalaam-u
-Allah, subhanahu wa ta'ala.
In the name of Allah, and praise be
to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon
the Messenger of Allah, may Allah greet you,
brothers and sisters, may Allah greet you, may
Allah bless you, and may you follow your
path, and stay in the house of Paradise.
And I ask Allah Almighty, who gathered us,
praise be to Allah, in this blessed place,
to gather us under the shade of His
Throne on a day when there is no
shade except His shade.
We are still
with
Surah Al-Baqarah or Al-Barakah, the surah
of the blessing, the longest surah in the
Qur'an, the most beloved, of course, Allah
and the angels.
Surah Al-Baqarah, Surah Al-Imran, you know,
these are the two flowery ones, as has
been mentioned in the hadith of the Prophet
Muhammad, peace be upon him.
Here, in the verse number 156, or 155,
when Allah, Azza wa Jalla, talks about Ibtila,
Ibtila is a trial, is a test, and
is a sunnah of Allah, subhanahu wa ta
'ala, in this universe.
Today, I had a counselling session with a
sister, she and her husband, the sister, may
Allah, subhanahu wa ta'ala, has passed away,
her daughter has passed away, and she is
about six months old, before the premature baby.
So, the daughter is a sad woman, or
a sad man, a couple, they came to
my office today, they are going through a
bereavement, as they lost their premature baby, premature
baby, baby who is only, they said, 23
weeks, and subhanAllah, the baby came out, lived
for some time, and then died.
So, this is Ibtila, what kind of Ibtila
is this, when, you know, your baby, but,
then you remind people about Rasulullah, for instance,
peace be upon him, who he had to
bury all his children with his own hands,
except Fatima, who died six months after the
death of Rasulullah, peace be upon him.
So, there are too many types of Ibtila,
or tests, or trials, there are many types
of Ibtila, as we said, it is a
sunnah of Allah, in this universe, is to
be tried and tested, so Allah, subhanahu wa
ta'ala, mentions certain types of Ibtila.
Allah did not say, and we shall test
you or trial you with fear, but he
said, with a test, and we shall test
you with a test, and we shall test
you with a test, and we shall test
you with a test, and we shall test
you with a test, and we shall test
you with a test, and we shall test
you with a test, and we shall test
you with a test, and we shall test
you with a test, and we shall test
you with a test, and we shall test
you with a test, and we shall test
you with a test, and we shall test
you with a test, and we shall test
you with a test, and we shall test
you with a test, and we shall test
you with a test, and we shall test
you with a test, and we shall test
you with a test, and we shall test
you with a test, and we shall test
you with a test, and we shall test
you with a test, and we shall test
you with a test, and we shall test
you with a test only a touch of
fear.
Otherwise, if Allah would have said, you know,
we shall test you or trial you with
fear, this ummah will be the ummah of
fear, will be the ummah of famine and
hunger, you know.
So it said only a touch of fear,
a touch of hunger, a touch of loss
of wealth, health, crops, lives.
And give glad tidings to الصَّابِرِينَ
Give glad tidings, good news to those who
show patience.
We're going to
talk about مصيبة.
Those who whenever they are or they endure,
they go through a calamity, مصيبة.
Because what's a مصيبة?
مصيبة is not just وفاة أحد.
Because the people they think مصيبة is when
somebody dies.
By the way it's
Not praying isn't that مصيبة?
Your son not praying isn't that مصيبة?
You'll be angry for your son to get
a D at school, very angry.
I would get angry too.
But would you be angry if he misses
the salah?
Or as angry if he misses the salah?
Or he doesn't even pray at all or
not?
So what is مصيبة?
How can we define
You know what is مصيبة in Urdu?
Same, مصيبة.
صح?
So what is the definition of مصيبة?
This is
very interesting.
There are two
things here.
To Allah we belong and to Him we
shall return.
And then Allah عز و جل talks about
what they would get.
These people who go through this مصيبة.
After going
through this calamity.
صَلَوَات is the plural of صَلَاة But does
it mean here صَلَاة Why Allah didn't say
صَلَاة He said صَلَوَات in plural وَرَحْمَة But
the translation says صَلَوَات here means blessings of
Allah Blessings Why not one blessing?
Why blessings?
But then comes the second ayah that says
It's the same
thing What is the difference?
لا it's not the same صَلَوَاتٌ مِنْ رَبِّهِمْ
We will talk about that وَأُولَيْكَ هُمُ
Do you remember last week when I
said There are three realities in this world
But there are three common realities
If you remember
The three realities The first reality We will
all We will all die
And the stupor of death
has come with الحق الحق is the truth
And what is the truth You and I
one day we shall die طلعت نزلت You
run You go here You go there When
your time is up Your time is up
You agree or I
The second reality You shall go through some
trial or test You have to Regardless of
who you are Poor or rich ضروري من
You see people will be left alone
without being trialed No they shall be trialed
You shall be tested So this is حقيقة
And this test could take many forms Maybe
a loss of a life A loss of
a job A health A child A son
A daughter A wife A husband Many kinds
It's a trial It's a test You and
I will have to go through some sort
Second reality
And the last حقيقة The third one is
There is none more merciful than Allah
More merciful than your own mother Than your
own father Regardless of what we do مَا
Allah Ar-Rahman Ar-Rahim No
wonder He called Himself Ar-Rahman Ar-Rahim
Ar-Rahma
Allah has decreed upon Himself يا رب You
don't have to decree anything You are the
Lord الرب الإله Ar-Rahma He descends upon
Himself سبحانه وتعالى This is the third beautiful
reality Ar-Rahma There is no one more
When we talked
about this شيء شيء is a is a
is an indefinite a world but it's a
the it indicates the context indicates general generality
which means here when Allah said شيء شيء
a شيء of what a شيء of anything
a شيء could be شيء I'm a شيء
means a thing a thing which could mean
anything but Allah specifies this thing what is
this thing a thing of fear number one
then Allah سبحانه وتعالى says do you know
understand this the one who gives fear is
the one who will give safety الأمن the
opposite of fear is
the one who gives fear is the one
who gives أمن so when you're afraid who
you should ask Allah يا رب remove this
fear from my heart
this is what it means in the ayah
the one who has given them the safety
who feel because the ayah says وَلَمْ لَوَكْنُ
شَيْءٍ مِنَ الْخُوْفِ وَالْجُوعِ and in surah قريش
جُوعٍ the one who has given them you
know أَطْعَامَهُمْ مِنْ جُوعٍ the one who has
fed them as they were hangry the one
who has fed them and the one who
has provided them with security and the ayah
says and we shall test you with a
touch of fear and hunger or famine so
this people like palestinian now in gaza مثلا
they are afraid some of them maybe maybe
not as per what we hear you and
i are afraid we and i are afraid
وَمَا عَنْدُهُمْ وَكَّلُوا أَمَرْهُمْ لِلَّهِ they delegated their
afraids to Allah fear maybe a woman would
fear that her baby will be bombed and
then he gets bombed and then she makes
what do you call you know in arabic
her baby just died she's making my son
my baby is in the highest level in
jannah خَوْف and then and hunger aren't they
hungry in gaza they are in palestine aren't
they hungry starving yes they are but they
are not asking you and i who are
it is only Allah who changes fear into
could be in your home and then you
have guards and you have bodyguards and you
have you stay up the whole night watching
me i got someone he sent me an
email ya sheikh there is a dream my
wife is scared terrified we cannot go to
sleep what happened she saw a dream i
don't know what she saw a dream of
someone sleeping like this and sitting at home
and scared and seeing like this as if
we are seeing things ya sheikh come and
help us i won't help you go and
help yourself beautiful
home a guard cameras and security systems everywhere
but khayf but scared scared terrified some people
are scared they don't even know why they
are scared subhanallah they are scared scared of
the unknown this is so dangerous when you
are scared of the unknown i don't know
has it happened to you you become so
happy one day you are laughing and you
know everything your kids are fine and then
you say there is something wrong gonna happen
today doesn't that happen you say we are
so happy today i don't think it's gonna
end good because you are so happy it's
gonna end not in good not in good
thing why khayf khayf from the unknown the
fear of the unknown bi shay'in minal
khawf i want you to pay attention to
this and then i'm gonna ask you questions
see if you can answer Allah azawajal says
please be careful indeed the awliya of Allah
the friends of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
those who are chosen by Allah they have
nothing to fear they will have nothing to
fear la khawf alayhim ok this is one
ayah Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says are
you with me so two ayahs just two
ayahs i mentioned Allah says you have nothing
to fear but then in the ayah that
we are talking about one ayah Allah says
you have no fear and one ayah Allah
says and we shall test you with little
bit of fear are you no fear or
fear so how you gonna answer this when
ayah says no fear and ayah says we
shall test you with fear day of judgment
anybody else imtihan test but the other ayah
says no fear on those who are awliya
Allah the wali those who follow my path
they have nothing to fear we are following
your path so why should fear anything you
told me there is no fear why am
i scared then yunfi
al khawf al mutlaq yunfi al khawf al
mutlaq wal huzn al mutlaq walakin ba'd al
khawf is ok what does it mean it
means that Allah azawajal is not negating the
absolute fear little bit of fear is ok
the absolute there will be little bit of
fear in there little bit little bit of
fear not the absolute sadness sometimes you will
feel sad when you lost someone may Allah
forbid even Rasulullah felt sad didn't he say
that when Ibrahim his son died he says
the eye will shed tears and the heart
will show some remorse some sadness even prophet
so this is a little bit of fear
so Allah azawajal is not negating the absolute
but little bit of fear is ok al
amn what kind of amn what kind of
safety Allah is talking about here all type
of safety al amn al ghidai al amn
al qawmi al amn al watani al amn
al sahhi al amn al nafsi what kind
of amn security I just translate whatever national
security call it national security your friend has
one yeah your friend yeah yeah look let
me I'm gonna go off a tangent it's
ok there's nothing wrong I'm gonna go off
a tangent I'll say like this no no
it's ok let me record I'm not gonna
say nothing wrong I'm gonna say that which
exists that's what exists they have conservatives and
they have democrats no they have democrats and
republicans we have conservatives and liberals right they
differ in everything everything the republicans and the
democrats they they fight over everything health care
you name it anything anything anything national security
everything they differ they agree on one thing
they disagree on everything but they agree on
one thing all of them all of them
the same thing here we differ in so
many things but we all agree on one
thing you know that one thing that country
is this fair yeah and then you know
as we say the Indians they say in
Saudi Arabia and they say same same Donald
I don't know her name same same they're
all the same you know republicans democrats conservatives
because they all support one you know the
Zionist movement with all the yes that's not
fair that's not fair state the truth people
are dying babies are dying do something no
we support we support Zionism so this is
it different it's all there it's all there
ok here security who gives the true security
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is the one
who gives the safety and security subhanahu wa
ta'ala fear and hunger lack of food
lack of water I'm going to move quickly
how much time do you want to give
me another 5 minutes you said 4 hours
no no no otherwise they will curse me
and I will make a whole night we
said fear and hunger then Allah azawajal moves
about the other thing and a loss of
of property of life of crops here means
maybe business here Allah is talking about Ibtila
you know Ibtila because one brother told me
what's Ibtila what do you say Ibtila in
Urdu in Urdu Ibtila means trial test Imtihan
Imtihan Imtihan is Imtihan but we have Ibtila
and Imtihan Ibtila is come from Bala'a
but here the three types of Ibtila Ibtila
Ibtila Ibtila three types of Ibtila Ibtila testing
through the commands of Allah Azawajal there is
a test through the commands through the through
the orders of Allah Allah told me to
pray its Ibtila I have to leave home
may problem come to the masjid its Ibtila
Ibtila to live that which is haram Ibtila
imtidal right It's hard, but this is Ibtila'
and you have to do it.
Sabr ala al-salah, sabr ala al-zakah.
Now you're doing sabr right now.
Aren't you doing sabr?
Uncle is sleepy out there.
He's sleepy down there.
Where's that guy who snores?
Zallah khair.
Ya'ni people kitha, ya'ni...
It's Ibtila', you're here.
I am with Ibtila'.
I am with Ibtila', man.
But you love me, don't you?
Of course, because I love you too.
You only have two options, I always say
that.
Love me or love me, pick one.
Mafia antakum la thalitha lahuma.
You have no third choice.
You have only two.
Love me or love me.
So you're still here sitting.
It's Ibtila'.
Those they hide...
He's just, I don't know, he's...
But until you chose to come, you came
from very far.
You came from Milton.
You came from Mississauga.
You came from Oakville.
I came from Burlington because I had to.
So we're here.
Had Ibtila'.
You know, on top of that, you're praying.
Bilal Walidain.
Sometimes you...
Ibtila' to your parents.
Isn't it sometimes when your parents, they ask
you for something that's not fair, but you
have to.
You go to your dad, you go to
your mom, you go to all the things.
Whether they're right or wrong.
Khalas, this is Ibtila'.
Allah has given you a father.
When he enters home, everybody says, Malakul Mut
has come, run away.
Khalas, that's your father.
Can you change your dad?
I always tell them, Ya Ikhwan, your dad
is your dad.
Khalas.
Change him, not change him.
He can't be there.
Just accept him as is and move on,
man.
Your mom is your mom.
This is it.
Especially when they reach a certain age.
So that's Ibtila' as well.
That you have to obey them and honor
them.
Ibtila' Bil Mahdod.
Ibtila' Bil Mahdod.
Another trial of the forbidden things.
Prohibited things.
That's another Ibtila'.
Don't drink alcohol.
Don't do riba'.
Don't do kada'.
Don't do zina'.
That is Ibtila'.
Stay away from fawahish, from evil.
This is Ibtila'.
If Allah Azza wa Jalla has forbidden, you
know, stay away from it.
This is Ibtila'.
And then the third Ibtila', which is the
toughest, Bil Mahdod.
Mahdod comes from the Qadar.
The Qadar means the decree.
The decree of Allah.
Hada Qadar Allah.
This is your Qadar, to stay here and
watch me and listen to me.
Hada Qadar Khalas, man.
You're stuck with it.
Somebody loses a loved one.
This is the Qadar of Allah.
The Qadar of Allah.
Either you accept or?
Or accept.
JazakAllah khair.
That's it.
In taqbal, aw tarda, falaka rida, wa in
tasghat, falaka as-sahtu al-'idu billah.
That's it.
This is the Qadar of Allah.
You cannot fight with the order of Allah
Azza wa Jalla.
Allah has willed this to happen.
We accept.
So this is the three types of Ibtila'.
When you go to this Ibtila', then comes
the Azar.
I want to share with you two things
before you go home tonight.
Before you go home.
The beauty of the Sabirin.
The beauty of the Sabirin.
And the merits and the fruits.
I'm gonna take the Quran with the Quran.
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says, when they
go to Sabirin, their Azar in the Jannah.
Before I tell you what's in here.
In the Jannah.
Let's not go to the Jannah.
Your son one day, mashallah, they come and
they learn Quran here.
And you tell him, if you finish Surah
Al-Baqarah, I have a prize for you.
Or a gift.
Baba wants the gift.
He says, Something, it's a surprise.
I'm not gonna tell you.
But it is a surprise.
Something you can never or even think of.
You don't tell him the prize.
There'll be a prize.
There'll be a surprise.
But what's the surprise?
No.
Allah is saying the same thing for the
Sabirin.
The Sabirin, those who endure through calamity, Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala says, and they endure
patiently, patiently through calamity.
They will be as Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala says, given their reward, without limit.
Rabbi, ya Allah, I want to know the
reward.
Can you tell me what, you know, when
I pray, I get this.
When I give zakah, I get this.
What's the reward of being patient?
Allah says, reward, limitless.
Unlimited.
Unlimited.
When would I know?
When you go there.
They're where?
In Jannah, inshallah.
That's number one.
Number two.
There are certain angels.
There are certain angels, who are welcoming.
Jannatu adni yadkhulunaha, wa man sabaha min aba
'ihim, wa azwajihim, wa durriyatihim, wal malaikatu yadkhulun
alihim, min kulli baab, salamun alaykum bima sabartum.
Allah Allah.
Not only you will enter Jannah.
You and the righteous of your parents will
come to Jannah, and then these special angels
will welcome you.
Not the other angels, there are others.
They are there with everybody else.
But for you, those who are enduring patiently,
there are special angels who will come and
tell you, salamun alaykum bima sabartum, fani'ma uqbad
daar.
Salamun alaykum.
Salamun alaykum, and they will say, bima sabartum.
While you're here, for your enduring patiently.
Bima sabartum.
Welcome.
Fani'ma uqbad daar.
This is what they will get in Jannah.
wa liman khafa maqama rabbihi, jannatan, fabi ayi
alai rabbikuman.
Of course, your favorite surah, right?
What is the surah?
Every Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, they love surah ar
-Rahman.
And we all love surah ar-Rahman.
Allah says, wa liman khafa maqama rabbihi, and
those who feel the maqam of Allah, feel
Allah azza wa jal, jannatan, not just one,
jannatan.
Because of their being patience and enduring patiently.
The Prophet Muhammad, la ajma'u liabdi khawfayni
wa amnayni.
Ida khafani fid dunya, amantahu fil akhirah.
wa in aminani fid dunya, khawaftahu fil akhirah.
Hadith amazing.
The Prophet says, I will not combine two
fears and two safety for my servants.
I mean, two states.
I will not combine two states of fear
and safety upon my slave.
He says, this is Hadith Qudusi, by the
way.
Hadith Qudusi, la ajma'u liabdi khawfayni.
And then Allah says in Hadith Qudusi, If
my slave fears me in this dunya, he
shall be secure in the akhirah.
So, he cannot have two fears.
Khalas, he already had one in here, there,
I shall give him security.
But if he's not, he doesn't fear me
here, I shall not give him security there.
These two states of fear and two states
of safety will not be combined upon a
servant.
Either you fear Allah here, and then there,
you get it all, you'll be safe.
But if you think I'm too safe here,
then Allah subhana wa ta'ala, may Allah
forbid, will make that person fear me on
the Day of Judgment.
Wa bashshir al-sabirin.
Alladhina idha asabata musibat, muqaru inna lillahi wa
inna ilayhi raji'oon.
Man humu al-sabirun?
Wa hadhi al-aaya, ijtama'at kulluha zayma
gunna fi mra'atin wahida.
Man hiya hadhi al-mara'a?
Thumma limada qala Allah ba'da hadhi al-aayat,
inna al-safa wa al-marawata min sa
'a ilillah.
Allah azza wa jalla talks about here, wa
bashshir al-sabirin.
Who are the sabirin?
Again, I'm gonna go give some details about
the sabirin.
Very very important point here, before you go
home.
The hardest or the harder the ibtila, or
the harder the ibtila, the harder the reward.
Or the highest the iman, the highest the
ibtila.
The weakest the iman, the weakest the ibtila.
It's all up to you.
But you will have to go to some
sort of test or ibtila from Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala.
And as I mentioned, all this ayat are
combined, subhanallah, and can be found in one
woman.
And who's that woman?
And why Allah azza wa jalla talks about
al-safa wa al-marawata?
That's your answer right there.
Ashraf?
Why?
Subhanallah.
She ran, but Allah talks about khawf, ju
'a, naqs min al-amwar, anfus, thamarat, sabireen.
And then in al-safa wa al-marawata.
Why Hajar?
Why her?
Why these are combined on her?
So when you study a little bit deeper,
then you will understand and then why Allah
moves to in al-safa wa al-marawata,
then you will come and you give me
a great hug and you say, Sheikh, you're
the best.
And I know I'm the best.
Mashallah.
This is just a joke.
Right?
So we'll stop here insha'Allah ta'ala.
And then we'll talk about salawat versus salah.
Salawat min Allah.
Why salawat?
Why not one salah?
Something really beautiful in al-safa wa al
-marawata insha'Allah ta'ala.
And why musibah?
Nakila, again, fisiqil ithba tufeed al-umum.
Musibah, musibah calamity.
Musibah in what?
Musibah, Allah doesn't mention what kind of musibah.
But here it means, it's a generic musibah.
Musibah, may Allah forbid, in the deen.
And the worst musibah, brothers and sisters, is
in the deen.
Allah, the man says, Ya Rabbi, take everything,
give me only one tongue to say la
ilaha illallah.
Take an eye, take the other eye, take
another, take the, just give me one tongue.
Wasabbihuka bihi wadhkuruka bihi.
You know?
Musibah, the worst musibah is the musibah in
the deen.
When somebody is mu'min today, at night, in
the morning, he becomes kafir.
Or he's kafir during the day, then at
night he becomes mu'min.
Musibah in the deen.
This is the worst.
Musibah in a job, musibah in health, musibah
in wealth, musibah in your country, is a
musibah, you cannot even come and come out
from your home.
You can't come out.
Who's Canadian, Canadian, Canadian?
If you had a greater opportunity, would you
come here?
Would you come here?
If you had a better opportunity where you
were, and your family there, and mashallah, great
job, great house, great posture, safe and secure.
Every day you hear five times, Allahu Akbar,
Allahu Akbar.
That's priceless.
And then you go to the masjid, which
is closer to your home, or maybe closer
to your work, and alhamdulillah, you're doing great.
What would you be coming here for?
To freeze, man?
Last week I was in Edmonton, I woke
up in the morning, wallah, ya akhbilar, al
-hayt al-subha, in the morning, in the
hotel, I opened the window, snow.
Guys, I did not agree on this.
Take me back home, 26 degrees here, snow
there, and I said, and I don't like
snow, I'm sorry.
But what brought us here?
To seek, alhamdulillah, a better life.
As for our children, yeah.
So, musiba in the watan, musiba in the
country that we live in, otherwise we're back
home.
Musiba in the istaghfirullah al-arab, the family,
a son, something happens to him, or a
wife, something happens to her, istaghfirullah, or the
daughter, something happens to her, all types of
musibas.
So, we go into this detail, inshallah ta
'ala.
Then, qalu inna lillah wa inna ilayhi raji
'oon.
They say, to Allah we belong, and to
whom we shall return.
Who says, inna lillah wa inna ilayhi raji
'oon?
Look, look at this one.
Just this one is amazing.
To Allah we belong, and to whom we
shall return.
As if, is this.
As if, is this.
The ones who are alive, let's say if
somebody dies, may Allah forbid.
The family says, inna lillah, and the dead
says, wa inna ilayhi raji'oon.
The dead says, to him we shall return,
so he's dead, khalas, he's gone.
And the family who's still alive, they say,
to Allah we belong.
inna lillah wa inna ilayhi raji'oon.
What did the Prophet used to say?
I promise.
Whenever he passes by a graveyard.
As-salamu alaykum ahla qawmin min al-mu'mineen,
min al-diyar al-mu'mineen.
As-salamu alaykum ahla al-diyar al-qawmin
min al-mu'mineen, nas'al Allah lana wa
lakum al-afiyah, antum al-sabiqoon, wa inna
lillah wa inna ilayhi raji'oon, wa nahnu
insha Allahu bikum al-ahyiqoon, nas'al Allah
lana wa lakum al-afiyah.
He used to say this.
As-salamu alaykum ahla al-diyar al-qawmin
min al-mu'mineen.
As-salamu alaykum all you believers.
You went first, and we eventually, insha Allah,
we shall follow you.
Remember the first reality.
We will all at some point die.
The Malak al-Mu't, he does not care
Malak al-Mu't, Hala Malak al-Mu't.
Kabi al-Sagheer, Sahih, Qawi, Dhaif, When he
gets the command, go and get the soul
of so and so, he goes and gets
the soul of so and so.
That's it.
He doesn't ask no questions.
He comes and gets you.
Rabbi, Hada is still a baby, one day
old.
Go get his soul.
Hada is 80, go get his soul.
20.
And I did it here in this masjid,
Wallahi, in 19, 20, in 2003 and 4.
I used to teach, I used to have
this program with the youth here, with the
kids.
They were, mashallah, they're all, mashallah, professionals.
But we used to have this program here.
And then at night, on Saturday night, I
used to take them to the graveyard, the
one on Birhamthorpe.
At night, late at night, 11pm, 12pm.
Go around the Muslim graveyard.
And then, yalla, go around.
Baby, buried here next to his mom.
Mom is 40, or 30.
The father, or the mother, or the grandfather,
had his 80, had his 20, had a
40, had a one day.
This is the graveyard.
No age difference.
Doesn't matter.
Doesn't matter.
When your time is up, your time is
up.
At the end, Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi
raji'allah.
