wa la dhilla illa minhum Brothers and sisters,
before I start my khutbah, let me reiterate.
I say this every khutbah, subhanAllah.
When the imam stands for the khutbah, you
should not be talking.
Number one.
Number two, you should not be playing with
your phone.
I say play with your phone.
Because right now what are you doing?
Texting, messaging, browsing.
That will nullify your Jum'ah.
Hussain Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wasallam Playing, ya'ni
touching the carpet or playing with Al-Hasr.
Al-Hasr, ya'ni it's like pebbles.
wa man mas Al-Hasr, fa lana Jum
'ah ad-dala Even playing with these pebbles.
As at the time of the Prophet, he
had no carpet.
He says, don't even touch this, you know,
the earth next to you.
Because if you were to do that, that
will nullify your Jum'ah.
You know, if you could do that, we
have no pebbles to play with now, but
people are playing with their phones.
Leave your phones, when the Imam says for
the khutbah.
If you want your Jum'ah to be
accepted, insha'Allah ta'ala.
Allahumma inni qalbi l-laqt, Allahumma inni l
-hajj.
It's up to you now.
There was an event in the 8th Hijrah,
the first Jum'ah, which coincided with August,
in the year 629 B.C., when the
Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon
him, al-Harith ibn Umair al-Azdi, was
sent as a messenger to Badan, there in
the Levant, in the region of Al-Qa
'a, in Jordan, to invite people to Islam.
The leader of the Ghassasinah, who were going
to Rome at that time, was told to
kill the Messenger, and the Messengers were not
killed.
So the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings
be upon him, gathered an army, led by
Zayd ibn Harithah.
Zayd ibn Harithah appeared, and he said, peace
and blessings be upon him, if Zayd is
killed, the flag will be taken by Jafar
ibn Abi Talib.
And if Jafar is killed, the flag will
be carried by Abdullah ibn Ruwaha.
This is what the Prophet, peace and blessings
be upon him, said.
An incident that happened, brothers and sisters, on
the 8th of Dhul Hijrah, Jumada al-Awwal,
the month, which corresponds to August, 629 B
.C., we are in 2024 now, this incident
happened in 629 B.C. When the Prophet
Muhammad sent a messenger, as a da'i,
as like an ambassador, to call the leader
of Badan, the area governed by al-Ghassasina,
or the Ghassanids at the time, in Sham,
precisely in al-Uldu, Jordan area.
So the Prophet sent this ambassador to call
to Islam, Rasul.
His name is Harith ibn Umair al-Azdi.
And then as you...
And I know that messengers don't get killed.
But you send an ambassador to a country,
then you kill the ambassador.
Nobody does that.
So this man, the leader of the Ghassanids
at the time, his name is Shohbi, he
killed the messenger of Rasulullah, salallahu alayhi wa
sallam.
When the Prophet heard the news, he dispatched
an army of 3,000.
On their head, Zayn ibn Harithah.
The commander in chief will be Zayn ibn
Harithah, the Sahabi.
And the Prophet said, salallahu alayhi wa sallam,
if Zayn was to be killed, then the
one who would need to carry the flag.
And carrying the flag and keeping the flag
up is a sign of victory.
The flag goes down, you lost the battle.
So the flag has to remain up.
If Zayn was to be killed, Ja'afah
ibn Abi Talib, the Prophet appointed as the
second commander in chief to carry the flag.
Ja'afah ibn Abi Talib, the one who
confronted al-Najashi in Abyssinia, the cousin of
Rasulullah, salallahu alayhi wa sallam.
And the Prophet said, if he was to
be killed, then the one to carry the
flag would be Abdullah ibn Rawaha.
So the Prophet appointed three commanders in chief.
The army, as it was mobilized, and dispatched
to Sham, the Ghassasina.
The Ghassanists, they heard that this army was
coming, so they mobilized in return an army
of 100,000.
100,000 versus 3,000, but that was
not enough.
And they sent for help to their allies,
the Romans or the Romans, Qaisa.
We need more help.
So Qaisa sent back another army of 100
,000.
200,000 versus 3,000.
But Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says, كَمْ
مِنْ فِئَةٍ قَلِيلَةٍ غَلَبَتْ فِئَةً كَثِيرَةً بِإِذْنِ اللَّهِ
وَاللَّهُ مَعَ الصَّابِرِينَ How many small armies defeated
big armies?
وَاللَّهُ مَعَ الصَّابِرِينَ And Allah is with those
who prevail and who persist.
In Badr is another example.
So as the army moved, and then they
came to know that there's an army of
200,000.
يعني 200,000 is an entire town, not
a town, it's a city.
How can you defeat 200,000 with 3
,000?
They paused.
And they consulted one another, what should we
do?
They never thought of retreating, not of coming
back.
They were making a decision as to whether
let's send a message to the Prophet and
wait for his decision to tell us what
to do, or we fight.
Came Abdullah ibn Rawaha.
And he says, اَيُّهَا النَّاسِ مَنَّ ذِي أَخْرَجَكُمْ
أَلَيْسَتِ الشَّهَادَةِ What brought you out?
Isn't it the shahada?
Is that what you're looking for?
Martyrdom?
He says, We do not
defeat our enemies with how big our number
is.
We defeat our enemies with the deen, with
the iman, with لا إله إلا الله.
وَإِنَّهَا يَحْدَى الْخَسْنَيَيْنِ إِمَّا الشَّهَادَةَ أَوْ النُّصْرُ He
says, It is either the two good outcomes,
either martyrdom or victory.
Both are winners.
Victory or martyrdom.
Why would you even think of retreating and
coming back?
So they decided to move on.
Into this land called the land of Mu'tah.
Hence the battle is called the battle of
Mu'tah.
Zayd ibn Khalidah carrying the flag.
200,000.
And then he fought vigorously.
But lo and behold, he got killed.
As soon as the flag went down.
There is a message today brothers and sisters.
This is not just a story.
It is a huge message.
And I hope you can decode my message.
As soon as the flag went down, another
leader.
Another leader carried the flag.
Ja'far ibn Abi Talib.
The second commander in chief.
And he fought rigorously.
Came down from his horse.
And fought barefooted.
In fact on his foot.
And he fought and he fought.
His right arm got cut off.
Followed by his left arm.
The Prophet Muhammad said, I am seeing Ja
'far in Jannah.
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala, replaced his arms
with two wings.
He's flying everywhere in Jannah.
And he got killed.
The flag went down.
Another leader picked up the flag.
Abdullah ibn Rawaha.
As the Prophet appointed.
Picked up the flag.
And lo and behold, he got killed himself.
Now the flag is down.
Which created a panic in the side of
the Muslims.
Some wanted to, you know, flee back to
Medina.
And then another hero comes in.
Carries the flag.
Thabit ibn Al-Arqam.
And he said, Ayyuhan nas, O you people,
appoint a leader amongst you.
Appoint a leader who can lead this army.
Who can lead this battle.
They said, you lead.
He said, no.
I am not befitted to lead.
Look at this.
Another message.
I am not.
You are the leader.
He said, no, I am not.
I am not.
I cannot lead.
The staff of operation needs an expert.
Not because they appointed you a position because
of your name, or because of your status,
or because of your rank, or because of
your family.
Do you deserve that position that you're running?
So, he looked.
And lo and behold, he spotted the hero.
He spotted the giant.
He spotted the lion.
He spotted the genius.
He spotted the sword of Allah.
He spotted, Sayyidullah Khalid ibn Walid.
Khalid ibn Walid was only four months old
in Islam.
He embraced Islam only four months old.
So he gave him the flag.
Khalid said, no.
No.
You are older than me.
He says, you are older than me.
Not in age.
You are older than me in Islam.
And you are better than me.
You are better than me.
Khalid ibn Walid, that's what he said.
Thabit said, no.
I am older than you in Islam.
But in this staff of operation, you are
more qualified.
You are more qualified to lead.
You are more qualified to give the khutbah.
Not anybody can lead.
Not anybody can say, ya hay Allah.
You need to be qualified to run a
position.
You are more qualified, ya Khalid.
By Allah, I only brought the flag only
to you.
So Khalid, he had no other choice other
than holding the flag.
And then he waved it.
When he waves the flag, that means come,
come close, come close.
And they came close and they fought until
the evening.
And they retreated.
Each one to their camps.
Khalid did not sleep that night.
He spent the whole night thinking.
Organizing.
And he came up with this brilliant idea.
Khalid's strategy is being taught in many army
schools today.
In many military schools today.
They are studying the strategy of Khalid on
how to retreat.
Khalid, what did he do?
He shoveled the army.
The army was split into three segments.
You have what we call Al-Maymanah, Al
-Maysarah, Al-Qadr.
Put your phone down.
Put your phone down.
Do not text.
Do not message.
Because that's going to spoil your khutbah.
It's going to nullify your khutbah.
As if you're wasting your time.
He shoveled the entire army.
What did he do?
I will mention that inshaAllah.
The army at the time is to be
split into three segments.
Maymanah means the right side of the army.
There's a bunch of people.
There's an army on the right.
And there are soldiers on the left.
So what did Khalid do?
He shoveled.
The right became the heart.
The heart became the left.
Left became the right.
So he shoveled the entire army.
He brought some groups.
Chunks of soldiers.
He told them, go in the back.
And then behave as if you're just coming
in new from Medina.
With new flags.
And as you reach this area, try to
trigger some dust.
So that people see this smoke, this dust.
And make lots of takbir.
So now in the morning, as the two
armies confronted one another, the enemy is looking
into these soldiers, new faces, new flags.
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala threw fear into
their hearts.
We couldn't even defeat the 3,000.
Now they just got some new help from
Medina.
And all of a sudden, these groups are
coming from the back.
Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar.
You know, there are only 20 or 30.
But Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar.
And then the dust, it looks like there
were thousands of them.
Which gave, I mean, brought or elevated the
morals of the Muslims and weakened the morals
of the non-believers.
And then they fought and fought.
But 200,000, how can you defeat?
It's an ocean, 200,000.
Six days of fighting, rigorous fighting.
Khalid al-Walisi said, I had nine swords.
They were all broken.
The only sword that remained intact or strong
is Safiha Yamaniya.
Ya Hayyullah al-Yaman.
He says, there's only one sword that remained
strong, was one sword from Yemen.
Nine swords been destroyed.
And they fought and fought and fought until
the sixth day.
The sixth day, Khalid al-Walisi, he thought
of a strategy.
This is the same strategy, as I mentioned,
that's been taught in some military schools today.
We're going to attack as one body.
There will not be no right, no left,
no center.
He gave his order as he was carrying
the flag.
And then he attacked, radiallahu anhu wa ta
'ala.
And attacked, and then the enemies was retreated.
And he was attacking and attacking.
And then he reached almost the gap of
the enemy from the other side.
And all of a sudden he stopped.
And then he waved his flag.
And then he retreated.
He went back and went back.
The enemy said, don't follow them.
It's a trap.
Don't follow them.
It's a trap.
It's a trap.
It's a trap.
It's a trap.
And then he went back and back and
back and back and back.
Khaleyhum, atukum.
Atukum, come in, come in, come in.
Leave them, leave them.
Until he reached Medina.
Not even a single Muslim was killed.
You may say, but they lost the war.
200,000 versus 3,000.
The Muslims went across.
The Prophet, when he saw Khalid, he says,
Sayfullah.
Sayfun sallahu allahu ala'l kafireen.
Sayfullahil masluh.
The Prophet, when he saw Khalid, he said,
radiallahu anhu wa ta'ala, Khalid, the sword
of Allah.
Allah has drawn his sword upon the non
-believers.
Sayfullahil masluh.
The essence of the story.
Brothers and sisters, I don't know if you
collected it.
One leader goes down.
One leader comes back.
Salahuddin went down.
Another Salahuddin comes back.
Khalid al-Walid went down.
Hamza went down.
Hamza got killed.
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala gave us faith
in Makkah.
Al-Islam, inshallah ta'ala, as the Prophet
Muhammad said, la yabnughanna hadath deen, ma balagha

bayt al-madarin, wa la wabarin illa adkhalahullahu
hadath deen, bi izzi azizin, aw bi dhuli

This religion will reach the four corners of
the world.

something called Islam.
