Well Sharon Ohmori Masha to Hakuna Matata set in VEDA Wakulla begotten Bala OpenNebula they can see now from above, but your brothers and sisters, I would like to take you back to the second generation of Islam. And the Khalifa at that time was on his way to Makkah and he tells his entourage that when we get to Mecca, you will
meet the legs of a man that you have never met before. So they said yeah, I mean what is it that makes him so unique? And he said you'll just have to wait and see and find out. So as they arrive into Makkah, they start performing their tawaf and as they're doing their toe off they run into Salim bin Abdullah bin Omar Radi Allahu Allah homogenize the grandson of Ramadan Nakata, a pious ascetic man that was residing in Makkah to that side, the Khalifa and his entourage, the Kota Salem and the Khalifa says salaam aleikum wa sallam I am the Khalifa is there any need of yours that I can fulfill? Is there any data that you have that I can pay off for you? And Simon was an intelligent
man, he always thought before he spoke. So he lowers his head and he thinks and he raises his head and he says yeah on the other meaning do you allow me to ask you a question before I answer your answer your question and the Khalifa says yes of course. And Salim says that imaginable Hugh and I are guests in someone's house and you have a need of yours that needs to be fulfilled. Would you ask a fellow guest or would you ask the host the Khalifa without thinking he says obviously I would ask the host and Salim response that here we are you and I and the house of Allah subhanho wa Taala as his guests How could I possibly ask anyone other than Allah subhanaw taala for my needs, and he
walked away and the entourage got upset they said yeah Khalifa let us make an example of him. Let us imprison him let us give him lashes and the Khalifa said Let him be we will catch up with him later. So they finish their ombre and they go outside of the masjid. And again the Entourage is fully for waiting for Salim to come out. So silent comes out in the Khalifa comes up again it says salam aleikum wa sallam Is there any need that you have that I can fulfill? Is there any debts that you have that I can pay off? Salim again lowers his head and he thinks and he raises his head and he says, yummy meaning May I ask you a question before I answer your question. And the Khalifa says
yes, of course. And he says this wealth that you have, do you actually own this wealth or are you merely appointed over it? Now the Khalifa learned his lesson the first time, the khalifa to lowers his head and he thinks and he thinks and he thinks but nothing is coming to his head. So he raises his head and he says that I have merely been appointed over it and I do not own it. And Salim says if that is truly the case, should I ask the one that is open?
pointed are the one that owns the keys to the treasures of the heavens and the earth and everything in between Rosa and Salem walked away. And the Khalifa turns to his entourage, and says, Did I not tell you you're going to meet the likes of a man that you've never met before? But your brothers and sisters I like starting off with this story because it teaches us some very valuable lessons the importance of asking Allah subhanaw taala and relying upon Allah subhanaw taala. But for the sake of argument, but what I want to focus on this in a second part of the story, we're seven points out that the wealth that we have, were merely implanted as trustees over it, and it is a trust from
Allah subhanho wa Taala trust that we will be questioned about a beloved nabasa Allahu Allah He narrates from the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam that our feet will not move on the Day of Judgment open until we're asked about five matters from those matters. How did we earn our wealth? And how did we spend it? And this shows us the severity of the matter, that on the Day of Judgment, this is something we will be questioned about with a surety. And what that necessitates is that we should be prepared. Now I want to share with you what inspired it is quotable. I was on Instagram yesterday, and someone had shared this post about how the average Torontonian spent $104 filling
their gas tank. And if you're working a minimum wage job in Toronto, that's seven hours of work that is taking to fill your gas tank. I thought to myself, Allahu Akbar, These are trying times these are difficult times. Can we find ways within our tradition that is encouraged to increase our risk from ALLAH SubhanA wa Tada. And that's what I want to focus on. So firstly, let us begin by understanding what is the ideal case scenario in Islam? Meaning that as Muslims, aren't we meant to be poor on do we managed to just completely sacrifice the dunya at all times? Well, let us look at one instance, from the Hadith of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, where for those of you that have been to
Medina, the front part of the masjid is slightly elevated. And that is where the under sofa used to be. The poor people that used to live in the masjid and depend upon the donations that people used to give. And one day they came to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam and they said, Yeah, rasool Allah, the hubba entered the story will adore the Messenger of Allah, the rich companions amongst us have run away with all the rewards. They pray, just like we pray, they fast just like we fast, but they give in charity that which we cannot give. So all messenger of Allah teach us something that if we were to do it, it would put us at par with them. And there are multiple
versions of this hadith with the version reported in Sahih Muslim, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam taught them to say subhanallah 33 times as Hamdulillah 33 times and Allahu Akbar 33 times at the end of every salah. And he says, no one will come better than you on the Day of Judgment except the one that did this and more. Now some time goes by. And what do you think happens? The same companions come back to the Messenger of Allah in this era Scylla Allah, the rich companions have learned our secret, teach us something else. And at that time, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam puts things into perspective for us. He says that that Leka Fudd Lola, you'll see him on your
show, that is the fever of Allah subhanho wa Taala that he gives to whomever he pleases. And what we learned from this is that the favor of Allah subhanho wa Taala is not the fact that these companions had wealth, because Allah subhanaw taala gives the wealth to everyone. The believer, the non believer, the pious, the non pious, everyone has access to wealth, but the favor of Allah subhanho wa Taala is that Allah subhanho wa Taala has given you piety, and Allah subhanho wa Taala has given you wealth. So you're doing your personal EBA in terms of praying and fasting and vigor and reciting Quran and on top of that, you're spending your money in the way of Allah subhanho wa taala. So that
is the ideal case scenario. And that is why when you look at the likes of aboubaker Siddiq of the management of Madame Na, fine or the Allahu Majima, in what do they have in common? What they have in common is not only the fact that these were amongst the richest of people, not the richest of companions alone, but the richest of people at their time. But in fact, these are the same companions that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam has promised paradise to during their lifetime, during their lifetime, because they were from the pious and used to spend in the way of Allah subhanho wa taala. And what was their secret? Their secret, my dear brothers and sisters was
that Allah subhanho wa Taala would give them wealth in their hand, and they would never allow us to reach
Your heart, they will never allow you to reach their heart it will come in their hand and they would spend and Allah would give them more and they would spend and this is the cycle. And this we have so many beautiful stories that like so all of you are familiar with that book or the Allahu Anhu in instances gave away all of his wealth. And when question what did you leave behind? I have left behind ALLAH SubhanA wa Tada and His Messenger sallallahu alayhi wa sunnah. So that is what we should be striving for to be pious God conscious Muslims with whom Allah subhanho wa Taala has blessed with wealth, and we spend in the way of Allah subhanho wa taala. Now to counter this notion,
that may be a misconception for many, but as Muslims, we're not meant to be people that ask for handouts. The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam tells us that the upper hand is better than the lower hand, the upper hand is the one that gives and the lower hand is the one that receives and the Prophet sallallahu alayhi. wasallam tells us that the best wealth that we can earn is the wealth that we struggle and strive hard for with our own two hands, who were meant to be people that work. And thus the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam emphasized that if you were to truly trust in Allah have a taco that he is truly deserving of. He would provide for you just like He provides for the
bird that leaves its nest early in the morning hungry, and comes back with a stomach full. Allahu Akbar, my dear brothers and sisters reflect on this for a moment that think of an ecosystem that has remained in its natural form. Have you ever heard of an animal dying of hunger? And a natural habitat, an ecosystem that has been on infiltrated? Do you ever hear of an animal dying of hunger? You don't, because Allah subhanaw taala has created risk in such a fashion that there is more than there's more than enough for everyone. And therefore Allah subhanho wa Taala was to answer all of our lives with regards to matters of this dunya it would not diminish from the dominion of Allah
subhanho wa taala. Except, like when you put a needle in the ocean and the drop the sticks to that needle, as you take it out. That is how vast the dominion of Allah subhanaw taala it's. So now let us discuss what are ways that we can increase our risk? What did the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam teach us about this? Number one, the importance of continuously making us think far.
There was a great scholar of the past by the name of an Hassanal Basava himolla. A man comes to him and he says, Yeah, Email me if I'm unable to have children. What do you advise me with? He says, make us the FAR. Second man comes and he says yeah, Imam Yeah, Chef. I've been struggling with drought in my farm. What do you advise me with? He says, Make It Stick for Allah subhanaw taala our third man comes and says that I've been struggling with poverty, what did you advise me with? And he says make us defer to Allah subhanaw taala the students became perplexed that you have three different people coming with three different problems yet the solution was exactly the same.
And the sheer he says have you not heard the statement of no Holly Salanter his people for contested Europa come in who can as a pharaoh your silly sonalika Medora William did Oh, come on while you were burning? Why where John? Welcome, Jana to my jello calm and Hara the Did you not hear the statement? And no Holly said I'm told his people that continuously seek forgiveness from Allah subhanho wa taala. For he is the one that sends the clouds over you through which the rains comes down. He is the one that blesses you with wealth and children. He is the one that will bless you with Gardens underneath which rivers flow and this we learned that the more stuff we make, the more
Allah subhanaw taala provides for us and the impediments between us and our risk are removed. Number two, the importance of making dua to Allah subhanho wa taala, the importance of making dua and you will notice that there are two types of dyes that you can make those that are general like saying Rabbana hNf dunya Hassan, our Phil karate Hassan alcanada But not that oh Allah grant is the best of this like Grant is the best of the next and save us from the punishment of the Hellfire, or those do I specifically that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam used to make like saying Allah Houma in the LUCA Elma Natha, what is complete about Ramadan Matata, that oh Allah I asked you for beneficial
knowledge, a risk that is sufficient and valid and for deeds which are accepted, and likewise, it has been narrated when the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam used to complete his will do one of the many doors that is narrated is that he sallallahu alayhi wa sallam would say Allah McFeely Thembi what was the fidelity? What vertically furiously? There? Oh Allah, forgive me for my sin, make spacious for me, my home and blessed me in my risk. So this shows us that even the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam is teaching us the importance of making dua for our risk, either in generalities or in specifics.
And then last but not least, the importance in giving in sadaqa in the way of Allah subhanaw taala. And I highlight this for an obvious reason, for an obvious reason, and that is because it is reported in saleable, funny that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam says that every day two angels descend from the heavens, and they make dua to Allah, they say, Oh Allah, those that gave in your sake gave them back to that which they gave and much, much more, and those that withhold from your sake, withhold from them. Now I asked my dear brothers and sisters, which one of us would not want the angels making dua for us. So when we get in the way of Allah subhanaw taala, even if it is
just a little bit every day, and any cause that we can find in any way that we can help humanity and our fellow believers, then this is a way that you earn the love the angels, the most righteous of Allah's creation in the sense that they do not disobey Allah subhanho wa Tada. So these are just three ways that we can increase our own risk, number one by making dua to Allah subhana wa Tada number two by continuously making us the third and then number three by giving bit a little bit of sadhaka every single day BarakAllahu li Walakum through for analog name, manufacture Jacobina female yet with equal Hakeem Akula poly had our stuff for Allah Allah Allah Kuma, DISA Eleusinian for stock
Pharaoh who in the whole of the photo Rahim.
hamdu lillah wa Salatu was Salam ala Rasulillah wa early he was the woman who Allah, my bat.
My dear brothers and sisters, the note that I would like to conclude on is the opposite end of the spectrum, just like Allah subhanaw taala has given us ways to increase our risk. There are things that we do that actually become impediments between us in our risk, and from them are the sins that are committed, particularly the sins pertaining to wealth. The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam he tells us of a man that is traveling through the desert is going through hardship and calamity, his hair is disheveled and he is in a very, very difficult state. And he raises his hands begging of Allah Allah Hiya, Rob. But the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam tells us that His clothes are
from haram. His drinking is from haram, his eating is from haram for and you stir Java, then why would this man's dua be answered? And this teaches us a very valuable lesson, my dear brothers and sisters, that the sins that we commit become impediments not only between us and our risk like this man, he is being delayed in his sustenance because of the sins that he committed, but also in terms of our drives being answered, also in terms of our drivers being answered. So just like our Istighfar removes those impediments, the sins that we commit become the impediment itself. So this is why it is important that if we are struggling financially, let us look internally, that is there
a sin perhaps that we are committing, that we can give up? Are we making enough is that far are we making dua are we giving sadaqa even if it is just a little bit every single day, and when we do that Allah subhanahu wa taala blesses our risk for us. So you will be able to do more with $100 than someone else is able to do with $100 just due to that Baraka factor.
Now, what I want to leave you with is an often asked from a very generic question, is money in Islam a good thing? Or is money in Islam, a bad thing. And within a Tada, that is what our scope of discussion is going to be tonight in the financial literacy workshop. I encourage you all of you to attend if you're able to do so. I pray that Allah subhanaw taala blesses our wealth for us that Allah subhanho wa Taala makes our wealth a proof for us and not a proof against us. Allah subhanho wa Taala forgive us for our sins and shortcomings and increase our risk and uplift any hardship and calamity that any one of us may be facing in this audience today.
